Okay, so technically Voltar won't be more omniscient (is that even possible?), but he will be getting a nice buff in the Awesomenauts 1.4 update. Specifically, his healbot is getting a nice buff.
Furthermore, Coco will pick up some new upgrades, including a "blaze" effect for her lightning ball and homing electricity particles for her shock attack. The latter looks particularly nasty, dealing lots of damage up close.
Patch 1.4 will be released next week.

Red 5 Studios is once again showing off its open world, free-to-play MMOFirefall (currently still in closed beta) at PAX, and the newest bit of content included is a set of in-game stores, allowing players to purchase items and features via microtransaction. Firefall lead designer David Williams promises the developer won't "sell power items or content areas to players." Instead,Firefall's item stores are all about aesthetic and convenience items, things that players can use to customize their character's look, or have some fun in the game world.
In addition to the company's just-announced 'Founders' content bundles(detailed above, and currently on sale during PAX), Williams showed us some special cosmetic items available for purchase, like shaggy dreadlocks or a flashy helmet, as well as items from an in-game store called Luau Larry's. Larry will happily sell you some fun items, like a little voodoo doctor pet, or a tiki torch that plays in-game music and causes everyone around it to dance when placed in the world.
Becoming a founder also grants priority access to Firefall's current beta build – along with XP boosts, real-world items, in-game currency and more based on purchased tier. And the items in the founders' packages are set to be available on September 24, so we may hear about a bigger update coming then. Meanwhile, the current price on all three packages ($15, $37, and $75, down from $20, $50, and $100) lasts through PAX weekend.

While most of its energy is focused on the XO-4 Touch, the One Laptop Per Child project is swinging into full gear for software, too. The project team has just posted an OS 12.1.0 update that sweetens the Sugarfor at least present-day XO units. As of this latest revamp, text-to-speech is woven into the interface and vocalizes any selectable text -- a big help for students that are more comfortable speaking their language than reading it. USB video output has been given its own lift through support for more ubiquitousDisplayLink adapters. If you're looking for the majority of changes, however, they're under-the-hood tweaks to bring the OLPC architecture up to snuff. Upgrades to GTK3+ and GNOME 3.4 help, but we're primarily noticing a shift from Mozilla's web engine to WebKit for browsing: although the OLPC crew may have been forced to swap code because of Mozilla's policies on third-party apps, it's promising a much faster and more Sugar-tinged web experience as part of the switch. While they're not the same as getting an XO-3 tablet, the upgrades found at the source link are big enough that classrooms (and the occasional individual) will be glad they held on to that early XO model.

We’ve seen our share of homebrew computers over the years. Usually, these bare-bone systems use a small, early 80s-era microprocessor such as the Z80 or 6502. These little 8-bit machines are awesome, but somewhat limited in their capability. [BigDumbDinosaur] sent in a computer he’s been working on for a few years now featuring the infamous 65816 CPU – the same CPU found in the Apple IIgs, the Super Nintendo, and [Jeri Ellsworth]‘s C-ONE computer.
The 65816 is a direct descendant of the venerable 6502 CPU found in the Commodore 64, Apple II, and just about every 80s microcomputer of note. [BigDumbDinosaur] chose the 65816 for its backwards-compatibility with the fun to program 6502 and the ability to use high clock rates and tons of address space for a very cool design.
After a ton of careful design and consideration, [BigDumbDinosaur]‘s computer included a real-time clock, a watchdog timer, a serial port, 256kB of ROM, and 128kB of RAM.
It’s a really wonderful build, but [BigDumbDinosaur] isn’t done with this project yet. He’s working on version 2 of a 65816 computer that will use programmable ‘glue’ logic, a lot more RAM, have a SCSI interface (for a hard drive), and have preemptive multitasking.
An awesome job, and it’s wonderful to see the wonderful 65816 make its way into another homebrew computer. Now if only we could find a 68000-based homebrew computer…

Epic is expected to host a closed beta for Fortnite - its first Unreal Engine 4 game - 'early next year'.
So reports Joystiq, which witnessed, during a Fortnite panel at PAX this week, the developer handing one lucky attendee a golden ticket that'll grant early access to a closed beta for the multiplayer title next year - a beta which is yet to be properly announced.Producer Tanya Jessing confirmed to Joystiqafter the panel that "there will definitely be a closed beta," but declined to confirm whether it'll be followed by an open beta for everyone to get all squeaky about.
Epic design director Cliff Bleszinski was also reluctant to comment, simply saying such topics are "TBD".
Epic chose last month's Comic Con event as the place to lift the lid on its new sandbox co-op survival game, releasing screenshots to offer a glimpse of the scavenging and base-building action.

See that? It's not your daddy's flip hybrid tablet -- it's the new dual-display laptop prototype from the fine people at Samsung. The body of the notebook is certainly in the vein of a MacBook Air or ultrabook, with slim metal slides that taper off into a point. The palm rests, meanwhile, are a brushed metal, with black chiclet-style keys above. On the bezel above the screen is a camera.
The magic, however, doesn't happen until you close the thing, turning on a display on the hood. Yep, it's yet another attempt to capitalize on Windows 8's dual-nature. Inside, you've got a fully functioning laptop and outside you've a touchscreen tablet that, yes, utilizes everyone's favorite proprietary stylus, the S-pen, and there's also a rear facing camera on the outside. Perhaps it's all that functionality packed inside, but this prototype is certainly heavier than your standard ultrabook, and unlike most systems, a lot of that weight is located in the display -- we're sure there's a fair amount of internals located up there.
This being a prototype, the Samsung rep we spoke with had no clue on what such a device might cost or when it might come to market -- or even if this thing will ever see the light of day, so don't get your dual-hopes up just yet. The hybrid was sitting right next to the 2,560 x 1,440 Series 9 prototype we recently scoped out and in front of a wall of concepts that explore the brave new world of elastic form factors to their fullest. Check out a video and some notes on the other devices after the jump.

The 17-inch behemoths that call themselves gaming notebooks are traditionally quite large, tradingextreme performance for substantial bulk. These machines routinely flirt with double digit weigh-ins, and flaunt meaty 1.5-plus inch bezels. They represent a unwieldy reality in portable power that most gamers have learned to expect. Not Razer CEO Min-Liang Tan, however -- he's still chasing the dream: thin, powerful and sleek. Tan caught up with us this week to brief us on the next generation Razer Blade, a rig that still boldly claims to be the "world's first true gaming laptop."
Razer's first laptop hit shelves earlier this year, packing a 2.8GHz Core i7-2650M CPU and a GeForce GT 555M GPU into a svelte 0.8-inch aluminum shell. Tan explained that the rig's attractive hull hadn't changed much, but its internals sure have. "The Blade was our first laptop, and we've taken feedback really seriously since then," the CEO told us. "We've been listing to gamers and made a chart of all the pros to keep, and all the cons to address. Every single one of them." That chart eventually mapped out the refreshed rig's internals, which include an unannounced Core i7 processor, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660M graphics, 8GB of 1600MHz DDR3 RAM, a 500GB 7200RPM hard drive and 64GB of fast-booting solid state storage. All this comes in the same aluminum shell as the first Blade, of course, sporting a 17.3-inch high definition display and the firm's exclusive multitouch LCD Switchblade interface. Tan says the new build addresses some of our own complaints too, noting that the sticky hinge that plagued our review unit has been tweaked to bend to a lighter touch. The machine's internal speakers have been upgraded as well, and are said to be 250% louder with no distortion.
The new Blade's sharpened specs will come with a price cut, ringing in at a penny under $2,500 -- and gamers who picked up its predecessor (which will be getting its own price cut, to $2,299), we were told, can snag one for $500 less. Pre-orders are slated to start on September 2nd, and should ship within 30 days. The new laptop is being unveiled for the first time at PAX Prime this weekend. Not in Seattle for Labor Day? Check out the official press release after the break.

Valve has launched its crowdsource-based indie game selection application Steam Greenlight.
The site had around two dozen titles listed shortly after launch this morning, and at current stands at 379 games.
"We've been working on this feature for the last few months with the input from a group of indie partners, and the response has been extremely positive," Valve's Anna Sweet stated.
Announced last month, Greenlight aims to be a hub for developers to post info about their games to get community feedback and get voted for potential selection by Valve as well.

Throughout the launch of subscription-free MMO Guild Wars 2, ArenaNet has stated that the player-experience is their top priority and, if necessary, they would suspend digital sales to protect their servers from crushing loads. While the launch has been considerably more stable than most big-budget MMO's in recent months, some players, especially those in Europe, have experienced trouble logging in and getting booted from servers. So yesterday, ArenaNet held true to their word, and temporarily suspended digital sales from their website. Personally, I think this is an incredible show of customer-centered focus. To turn down purchases, especially first-party purchases, where the seller gets a higher percentage of the sale, during a major title's first weekof sales, would be inconceivable by other companies. Is this a bad move for ArenaNet? Will there be enough of a long-term payout to make up for the lost sales? And does this put pressure on other major studios to follow suit in the face of overwhelming customer response?"New submitter charlieman writes with related news: "Yesterday ArenaNet banned players for exploiting an error in their new game Guild Wars 2. The so called exploit was in fact an error on ArenaNet's side, leaving weapons at a low price from some vendors. Players saw this and started making profits buying and selling the items. Should players be penalized for errors committed by the game developers? Taking in account that the game is fairly new, the economy hasn't stabilized yet and most don't know the value of things. Today they've given these players a 'second chance', but shouldn't they be apologizing instead?"

Subscription fees the biggest turn-off for most fans, says Bioware GM Matthew Bromberg
Shifting the troubled MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic to a hybrid business model was a "straightforward decision".
SWTOR had 1.7 million users at peak, but nine months later that figure has nearly halved, dropping below a million.
"We looked at it and thought, what is the size of opportunity for your brand?" Bromberg told CVG.
"There are tens of millions of Star Wars fans, how many have tried our game? How many would like to try it? Clearly the awareness of the brand is really high so what's standing in the way?
"We did a lot of research and found that people who gave it a try but left found the subscription to be the biggest barrier. So it was a pretty straightforward decision for us."

Valve has launched its community voting scheme to enable users to select which games they would like to see on the digital distribution platform.
Steam Greenlight will give more developers a chance to find out about the potential popularity of their games before release. The scheme will create a more open approval process and let more developers gain access to Steam.
“We’ve been working on this feature for the last few months with the input from a group of indie partners, and the response has been extremely positive,” said Valve’s Anna Sweet.
“With the additional help of beta testers, we are able to launch with a solid line-up of titles for the community to start viewing and rating. And, as we’ve done with all Steam features, we intend to continually grow and modify Greenlight as more and more developers and community members have a chance to get involved.”
The system will be familiar to anyone who has used the Steam Workshop, with much of the presentation using the same code.
A number of games are already available on Steam Greenlight for people to vote and comment on.

Valve officially launched Steam Greenlight today. This new platform is designed to let the Steam community select some of the games that will release on the direct download service.
"We've been working on this feature for the last few months with the input from a group of indie partners, and the response has been extremely positive," said Valve's Anna Sweet. "With the additional help of beta testers, we are able to launch with a solid line-up of titles for the community to start viewing and rating. And, as we've done with all Steam features, we intend to continually grow and modify Greenlight as more and more developers and community members have a chance to get involved."
Announced earlier in the summer, Steam Greenlight is designed to help developers and publishers post information and media about their game to try and gain approval for a general release on Steam. Users can rate and leave feedback for games using Steam Workshop.

Earlier this week I installed the final version of Windows 8. And it is awesome. That's not a joke. Windows 8 is absolutely, unequivocally stellar. And yet, at the end of the day, I am right back to using Linux. Why is that? What is it about Linux that makes me so excited to use it — even while enjoying another operating system that I view as, in all seriousness, a work of art? Why do I not simply install Windows 8 on every machine I own and be happy with it? For me, it's the ability to slowly chip away and remove items from your user interface until you are left with only want you want, and nothing more. The option of looking at an item on the screen, right clicking on it, and declaring to said item 'Listen up, mister Thing-On-My-Screen. I don't want you anymore. Be gone!' Panels, bars, docks, launchers, widgets, gadgets – whatever is on your screen, there is probably a way to send it to whatever form of the afterlife is reserved for unwanted Desktop Crud. And, I'll tell you this right now – as great as it is,you don't find a whole lot of 'Right click, Remove Panel' in Windows 8."

Games portal scalable to tablet devices and open to third-party developers
Microsoft is bringing Atari’s 40-year library of games to browser and tablets with the newly launched Atari Arcade.
Compatible with Internet Explorer, HTML5 versions of eight games will be available to play for free on the site.
These include Asteroids, Combat, Centipede, Lunar Lander, Missile Command, Pong, Super Breakout and Yar’s Revenge.
The games have been slightly redesigned for modern hardware and are all compatible with touch-screen, and can be scaled to various sized tablet devices and PCs. It is not optimised for smartphones however.
Pong can be played by dragging the player’s bar, Missile Command uses mutli-touch whilst other games use a button press UI. Users can also keep track of their high scores and how many times they have played a game.

To mark the 25th anniversary of the franchise, Konami has announced a new Metal Gear Solid game.
Unveiled at a Japanese press event, the game will be called Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes and will be open-world.
The game was demonstrated on what was described as ‘a current-gen PC’ and was called ‘amazing’ in a number of tweets – even though press and attendees were forbidden to reveal any details.
What we do know from the tweets is that the presentation began with a cut-scene which moved seamlessly into gameplay without a change in graphics. Main protagonists Big Boss is shown creeping around in the rain at night, snapping necks and dodging spotlights.
The game will be powered by the latest generation of Konami’s FOX Engine.
Creator Hideo Kojima also confirmed that aMetal Gear Solid movie is in the works at Columbia Pictures. The film is being produced by Avi Arad, whose former credits include Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk andThe Amazing Spider-Man.

Square Enix has launched a new service offering its back catalogue for free to gamers.
CoreOnline streams HD full console-quality titles, including Hitman: Blood Money and Mini Ninjas. Lara Croft: Guardian of Light will be coming to the platform in October, and other Tomb Raider titles will be added soon.
“We’re offering gamers the chance to play entire games completely for free. The games are funded by advertising, and users will normally have a choice of adverts to watch in order to earn game time,” reads the CoreOnline site.
Players will earn 20 minutes of game time for each one minute-long ad that they watch. The ads are initiated during the game’s loading time, and CoreOnline insist that they will not artificially increase the load times to accommodate the ads.
Those who really don’t wish to watch ads can chose to skip them and purchase levels or full games.
Game time acquired by watching an advert during any game can be redeemed across any other game available on the platform.
Square Enix’s game streaming platform launches in the wake OnLive having to sell its assets to venture a capitol firm, as well as founder Steve Perlman resigning.
