And two-thirds reckon the telephone will become extinct within five years.
Tablet sales continue to spike, topping tens of millions each quarter, but 24 per cent of UK company CIOs reckon the tech will die out, according to Virgin Media Business.
Meanwhile, 65 per cent believe the telephone will become a thing of the past within the next five years, as most people today possess a mobile phone, and 62 per cent think PCs will be abandoned.
Smartphones look to stand the test of time though, as just 13 per cent believe they devices will be irrelevant.
70 per cent of Brits are set to own a connected mobile smart device by the end of 2012, demonstrating how ubiquitous the tech has become.
Tony Grace, chief operating officer, Virgin Media Business, said: "A decade ago it would have been unthinkable to suggest an office without telephones. Now it’s hard to imagine being separated from our smartphones.

Steve Perlman, founder and CEO of OnLive has announced his departure from the company as he moves on to pursue other projects. Lead investor in OnLive, Gerry Lauder, is now chairman of the company, with former lead of operations, Charlie Jablonski, appointed as COO and acting CEO .
The departure of Steve Perlman does come as a shock as OnLive announced last week that Perlman would remain as head of the company, after the acquisition by Lauder Partners.Charlie Jablonski, the former head of operations, will be taking over from Perlman as acting CEO, and has been appointed COO of OnLive.
The new chairman of the company, Gerry Lauder, says of the restructuring, "the new OnLive is emerging with greater financial security and a brighter outlook on the future. OnLive is now positioned to execute against longer-term projects with our breakthrough technology, products and services."
Lauder praised Perlman, stating, "Steve has created an extraordinary company that no one else could have created. He is a unique entrepreneur and deserves his legendary status in Silicon Valley as a creator of groundbreaking companies."
Under the restructured management team, OnLive promises to continue "breaking new ground in cloud services both for games and remote application delivery to thin devices, legacy platforms or any platforms with a fast connection."
It is unknown where Lauder is moving on to, the official press release simply states that he is moving on to "work on his myriad of other projects."

The enhanced-for-PC Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition version will arrive on console on October 26, Namco Bandai has confirmed.
The digital PC edition, which is out now via Styeam, features new content set 100 years before Dark Souls. Mysterious passages open in Darkroot Basin, and these lead to brand new areas, tougher enemies, new NPC's, fresh weapons and gigantic bosses to fight. You'll have to progress up to a certain point to access them, a bit like Mass Effect's downloadable missions. If you already own the regular game on consoles, you'll be able to just grab the new content via a rebranded 'Artorias of the Abyss' download pack for $14.99.
Head over here for a recently-released launch trailer for the PC version of Prepare to Die.

Hewlett-Packard Co. used to be known as a place where innovative thinkers flocked to work on great ideas that opened new frontiers in technology. These days, HP is looking behind the times. Coming off a five-year stretch of miscalculations, HP is in such desperate need of a reboot that many investors have written off its chances of a comeback. Consider this: Since Apple Inc. shifted the direction of computing with the release of the iPhone in June 2007, HP's market value has plunged by 60 percent to $35 billion. During that time, HP has spent more than $40 billion on dozens of acquisitions that have largely turned out to be duds so far. HP might have been unchallenged for the ignominious title as technology's most troubled company if not for one its biggest rivals, Dell Inc. Like HP, Dell missed the trends that have turned selling PCs into one of technology's least profitable and slowest growing niches. As a result, Dell's market value has also plummeted by 60 percent, to about $20 billion, since the iPhone's release.

De_Dust 2 copied and renamed Sand Storm in WebZen's Arctic Combat
Yet another online developer is at the centre of a cloning storm after WebZen’s Arctic Combat appears to have ripped off content from Valve’s mega-hit Counter-Strike.
The free-to-play shooter, which is currently in closed beta, includes a map almost identical to one of the most popular and most played CounterStrike maps, De_Dust 2.
Whilst some objects have been moved around the map and some dimensions have been slightly changed, the level, named Sand Storm, is remarkably similar to Valve’s own.
Develop has contacted South Korean developer Webzen for a response to the allegations.

Lenovo's upcoming IdeaTab A2109 didn't drop in on the FCC with its seven-inch brother, but that hasn't stopped it from reaching stores. The nine-inch device appears to be in stock on Best Buy's online store, offering 16GB of storage, an NVIDA Tegra 3 processor and a standard serving of Ice Cream Sandwich for $299. The slate isn't just available for order, either -- according to Best Buy's stock locator, it can be found in brick and mortar stores too. The A2107, on the other hand, isn't so readily available, but we'll let you know when Lenovo lets it come out to play.

Cloud gaming company OnLive has certainly had its troubles this week with a near bankruptcy/buyout/regeneration, but the service remains uninterrupted and this weekend concludes its Indie Weekend Giveaway promo. For this weekend only the following games will be free: - PoP - Methodology Experiment One
- Lume
- Dear Esther
- Defense Grid Gold
To reclaim your codes, go to OnLive's Facebook page, click on the links based on your corresponding territory, then follow the instructions to redeem the game of your choosing. You're free to take them all, but will have to go through the redemption process for each title. We were quite fond of both Dear Esther and Lume. Our Marsh Davies called the former "a sumptuous experience for its stunning appearance alone," in his 8/10 Dear Esther review. "All that matters is that Dear Esther is worth your time - and that its two-hour long chill will remain in your bones for a long while after."Kristan Reed gave Lume a 7/10, calling its peculiar aesthetic based on filming paper and cardboard miniature sets "undoubtedly one of the most unique-looking games around" in his roundup.

A fan-made mod appears to have fixed Dark Souls: Prepare to Die's resolution issues, dramatically improving the game's graphics in the process. What's more, the modder was able to complete the fix within 23 minutes of the game's release.
There had been concern leading up to the PC version of Dark Souls, with From Software acknowledging that Prepare to Die would likely release without expected optimization. Producer Daisuke Uchi had told Digital Spy earlier this month that the original game's frame-rate issues would not be fully fixed, whileEurogamer raised alarms over Prepare to Die appearing to be locked at 1024x768 resolution.
With all that in mind, NeoGAF user Durante spent the week before the game's release preparing a 'dll framework' to fix the problem. When the game launched earlier today, he only needed 23 minutes to finalize the code required to render it at a higher resolution. What's most surprising is how much better Prepare to Die now looks, with Durante's mod seemingly curing the unmodded version of its blurriness. The before and after screenshots are striking.
While fans are delighted with the fix, the speed of one modder's work to improve Prepare to Die's resolution so dramatically forces questions to be raised. We've approached Namco Bandai for comment but the publisher declined to say anything at this time.
You can download Durante's fix here.

As made evident by the latest trailer above, Primal Carnage continues to embody the bloody fantasies of 10-year-olds everywhere who want to be real, live dinosaurs when they grow up. This look at the game's humans vs. dinosaurs multiplayer combat highlights two of the playable classes that will be available when the game eventually launches: Velociraptors and Trappers.
As you might guess, Velociraptor gameplay involves a lot of running, climbing and pouncing on squishy humans and their delicious organs, while Trapper gameplay is focused on disabling dinos with nets and then stabbing them with big ol' knives. The Trapper also has two sizable pistols at his disposal, which may or may not be a match for the adorable "Skreee!" sound the raptors make while pouncing.
If your inner child is throwing wild fits, placate them by signing up for the forthcoming beta.

A Holy Grail of Linux gaming has been an Unreal Engine 3 port. Getting one for the OS would unlock a world of games that has been the province of, well, just about any other mainstream platform. Thanks to Google preserving Flash on Linux through Chrome, that dream is alive in at least a rudimentary form. Experimenters at the Phoronix forums have found that Chrome 21 has support for the Stage 3D hardware acceleration needed to drive Epic Games' Flash conversion of UE3. Tell Chrome to enable support as well as ignore a graphics chip blacklist, and suddenly you're running Epic Citadel from your Linux install. When we say "running," however, we're taking a slight amount of poetic license. Performance isn't that hot, and certain configurations might not show the medieval architecture in all its glory. We've confirmed with Epic that it works, but it's still firm on the stance that there's no plans for official UE3 support on Linux "at this time." It's still promising enough that maybe, just maybe, gamers can embrace an open-source platform without having to give up the games they love.

According to Nadim Kobeissi, Windows 8 is configured by default (using a new featured called Windows SmartScreen) to immediately tell Microsoft about every app you download and install. This is a very serious privacy problem, specifically because Microsoft is the central point of authority and data collection/retention here and therefore becomes vulnerable to being served judicial subpoenas or National Security Letters intended to monitor targeted users. This situation is exacerbated when Windows 8 is deployed in countries experiencing political turmoil or repressive political situations."While SmartScreen is enabled by default, it's possible for users to turn it off. Also, it's worth noting that Microsoft is hardly alone in this regard, given the rise of app stores over the past several year. (Not that it exculpates this behavior.)

Graffiti advertising the new devices is popping up all over New York.
Despite the company's best effort, many people still think of Microsoft as stuffy and old-fashioned, but their marketing campaign for the new Surface tablets might start changing minds.
Two months after announcing the Surface, but still at least two months away from release, Microsoft are playing a clever game. Trickling their slate into the public consciousness before embarking on a full-on ad campaign is a smart way of creating buzz.
A wiser man than I might say that the ads' clean, simple designs combined with the rough and ready nature of spray painting on plain brick walls reflects Microsoft's aim for the Surface to be a fast, sleek device that can be taken anywhere and perform any task in today's urban jungle.
