A range of World of Warcraft Mega Bloks kits are due to hit retail next week.
Brick-building toy brand Mega Bloks has turned the popular MMO from Activision Blizzard into a series of toys including a Goblin Trike, Swift Wyvern, Goblin Zeppelin Ambush, Deathwing's Stormwind Assault (pictured above) and Demolisher Attack (pictured below).
Pete Fuller, UK marketing manager at Mega Bloks, told PCR's sister magazine ToyNews: "We are very excited about the launch of our new Mega Bloks World of Warcraft construction range next week, and we expect the range to do extremely well.
"We have really tried to capture the intricate detail of the characters and authenticity of the scenes from the game, which we hope will impress avid Warcraft fans and collectors across the globe, while at the same time we have bought to life a magical fantasy world that we believe will be equally as popular with kids”.

Fuse Powered and Rebellion are the brain (eaters) behind the new flesh-nibbling franchise, Zombie HQ, which has smashed the one million download milestone in just ten days.
The app runs across iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch, and calls on players to destroy the undead and save fellow humans, while building up time to relax in a 'man-cave.'
Fuse is celebrating the widespread adoption by discounting several in-app purchases (premium packs) for the weekend including:
* The Fixer
* Home Renovator
* Zombie Exterminator
* Fashion Critic

Can't help salivating over gaming setups with three screens? The Tech Report knows your hunger, and aims to satiate your cravings with a detailed look at the triple-display efforts of Gigabyte's GeForce GTX 680 OC and ASUS' Radeon HD 7970 DirectCU II Top. The high-end GPUs ran Battlefield 3, Arkham City, Rage and a few other games through the wringer -- competing on temperature, game performance, noise level and more -- outputting each title in a glorious extra-wide resolution, with a few quirks on the side. The Tech Report emerged from the gauntlet reluctant to relinquish its additional displays, extolling the trial as the first "next-generation gaming experience" they've had in a while. What's this mean for you? The author sums it up nicely: "In a few short years, surround gaming has gone from being somewhat of an exotic luxury to something far more attainable." If snagging a multi-panel gaming setup is your goal, venture on to the source below where an unabridged, 11-page breakdown awaits.

It could be a trickle or a torrent, but reports are coming in that Google is shipping the first Nexus 7 pre-orders to those customers who pulled the trigger at the Google Play Store while the I/O keynote seats were still warm. Third-party retailers Adorama and Ebuyer also briefly started selling the Jelly Beantablet, although they're now known to have jumped the gun: both were told by Google to freeze sales until at least Sunday. The word of an imminent arrival is no doubt music to the ears of those who thought that even the three-week wait was interminable. Still, we'd like to know whether yours is truly on its way or if that $199, ASUS-made Android dream will have to wait a little longer.

For people out there doing actual work (like tech blogging, for instance), there's the need for a tablet like the GammaTech T7Q Windows slate, starting at $2,000. Standing out like an M9 tank among the daily driver tabs, the sealed magnesium unit meets military specs for environmental nasties -- while packing a 7-inch resistive-touch TFT WSVGA LCD, Intel Atom N2600 or N2800 processor, 5MP camera with geotagging, compass, gyroscope and an mSATA SSD. It can also be accessorized to the nines with items like RFID, magnetic stripe readers and GPS through an assortment of connectors and expansion slots. To top it off, there's three different lock-down methods for your your data: TPM1.2 security, built-in BIOS safeguards and a Kensington lock connector -- plus Computracing ability piled on, for good measure. Sure, this guy is intended for oil rigs and desert archaeological digs, but hauling one out at Starbucks might give you a whole new level of shabby-chic cred -- if you've got the cash.

Unless you don't care about PC gaming at all, by now you're aware of Valve's entry into the MOBA/ARTSgenre, Dota 2. Despite still being in a closed beta, it's currently the number one game on Valve's Steam gaming service, and judging from Valve's earlier declaration regarding Steam on Linux, it's only a matter of time, even if that time be a year or more, before we see Dota 2 come to Linux as well as Mac. Valve has big plans for Dota 2, no less big than what happened with Team Fortress 2, even if it took them a few years to get to where Team Fortress 2 is today. What makes the current state of Dota 2noteworthy, however, is that it has managed to displace Team Fortress 2 as Steam's most popular game, while still being tested in a closed beta."Read on for the rest of CowboyNeal's thoughts on games, and what it's like being a Slashdot poll option.

The login details of more than 450,000 Yahoo customers have been leaked online after its Yahoo Voices network was hit by an SQL injection attack.
According to Ars Technica, the information was posted on a public website by a hacking group known as the D33Ds Company and the act was done as a wake-up call to Yahoo.
The group managed to penetrate the Yahoo subdomain by utilising a union-based SQL injection to trick the server in to dumping huge amounts of information. Which it did. In plaintext.
“We hope that the parties responsible for managing the security of this subdomain will take this as a wake-up call, and not as a threat,” read a short statement from the hackers.
“There have been many security holes exploited in webservers belonging to Yahoo! Inc. that have caused far greater damage than our disclosure. Please do not take them lightly. The subdomain and vulnerable parameters have not been posted to avoid further damage.”
If you wish, you can check if your details have been compromised at the D33Ds website.

Microsoft CEO reassures PC partners as he expounds Windows 8 "ecosystem"
[h=3]Microsoft[/h]www.microsoft.com
Steve Ballmer has eased the potential worries of Microsoft's PC manufacturing partners by insisting that the Surface tablet is a design point intended to set standards, rather than a move to muscle them out of the territory.
Speaking at the Worldwide Partner Conference yesterday, Ballmer told his audience that the device would have its place, but that Windows 8 devices would have a healthy and diverse ecosystem.
"Surface is just a design point," All Things D reports Ballmer as saying.
"It will have a distinct place in what's a broad Windows ecosystem. And the importance of the thousands of partners that we have that design and produce Windows computers will not diminish. We have a mutual goal with our OEM partners to bring a diversity of solutions, Windows PCs, phones, tablets, servers to market.
"What we seek to have is a spectrum of stunning devices, stunning Windows devices. So, every consumer, every business customer can say, 'I have the perfect PC for me.' … We're excited about the work our OEM partners are doing on Windows 8."

Digital Foundry looks at the challenges Apple faces with the arrival of the Google Nexus 7 and Microsoft Surface.
For over three years, only one tablet product has gained traction with the mainstream: Apple's phenomenal iPad. Niche challengers have come and gone, while heavyweights including RIM, Sony, Samsung and Motorola have all singularly failed to make any kind of impact on Apple's stranglehold on the market. Now the Cupertino giant's closest rivals have finally woken up: Microsoft and Google are both rolling out the big guns with the upcoming releases of Surface and the Nexus 7.
There's little doubt that the iPad has defined the prerequisites of a mainstream-focused tablet, and to a certain extent both of these challengers are "me too" products. Each is based on the notions of a slick, user-friendly interface, capacitive touch-screens, and low-power integrated processors paired with large batteries to provide stamina in the 8-10 hour range - the defining elements of the iPad.
However, the differences between the products are interesting in that they illustrate exactly where Apple's challengers believe its weaknesses are: the question really is whether these perceived deficiencies are enough to really open up the market.
"The likes of RIM, Sony and Samsung have all failed to effectively challenge the iPad phenomenon. Now Apple's rivals have finally woken up - but can Microsoft Surface and the Google Nexus 7 compete?"
Google's approach is intriguing: with the Nexus 7, it has staked a claim to the value end of the market, looking to offer an approximate high-end experience in a package that is a fraction of the cost of the $500 top-end "New iPad" and half the price of the $400 iPad 2. Google's tablet miniaturises the experience onto a 7-inch, IPS 1280x800 screen that cuts some corners on brightness and colour reproduction but crams a lot of pixels into a small enough area to give something approaching Retina fidelity.
Elsewhere, all the core functionality you would expect from a tablet is present and correct, while more extravagant elements that have somehow become a standard on more expensive tablets have been stripped out - so there is no rear-mounted camera for example, no HDMI output - and only a single microUSB port.
Only 8GB and 16GB SKUs are planned and there is no support at all for cellular connectivity - Google's strategy seems to be in attracting the value-conscious and tablet newcomers, and perhaps convince them to upgrade when the time is right to another Android tablet. The Nexus 7 is produced by Asus, and the Nexus 7 comes across to a certain extent as a "gateway" product to the firm's more expensive offerings.
Microsoft's Surface has no pretensions in masking the "me too" elements of its design. Although it has opted for a widescreen display over the iPad's 4:3 screen, there's little doubt that it aims for the premium side of the market in exactly the same way as the Apple tablet, with its high-end magnesium finish and weight/dimension advantages over the current generation iPad. At its presentation for the device, a huge amount of focus was put into the kickstand - curious, as it suggests that Microsoft believes that a great deal of tablet-time is spent near some kind of static, flat surface that it can rest upon.
Google's Nexus 7 aims to differentiate itself from iPad with a bargain $199 price-point, along with a user-experience that offers much of the slickness and appeal of Apple's established, market-leading offering.
But the true point of difference that Microsoft is banking on is Windows 8 and everything it represents: specifically functionality, productivity and the ubiquity of the OS on other devices. A fully featured USB port means that virtually any peripheral can be run from the tablet - printers, storage drives - with standard Windows drivers being used to run them. The Touch and Type covers in combination with Microsoft Office potentially offer Surface RT a level of functionality well beyond what the iPad offers, in a pleasingly integrated manner.
Traditional, native x86 Windows programs won't work on the Surface RT however, and therein lies one of Microsoft's biggest challenges: building its own version of Apple's walled garden app store. Having failed comprehensively with Windows Phone 7, Microsoft desperately needs to create transaction infrastructure that rivals Google Play and iTunes. Just a couple of months from launch, there are still some question marks over the Metro marketplace and the level of support it will attract.
"A merging or convergence between OSX and iOS has been mooted for years now, but Microsoft has got their first by rolling out Windows 8 simultaneously on computer and mobile platforms."
Of course, the advantage Microsoft has is the sheer proliferation of Windows on traditional computers and laptops. The next version of the desktop OS features support for Metro apps, along with the compatibility with traditional x86 binaries missing from the RT tablet. The same core kernel is deployed on all devices, be they tablet, smartphone, laptop or desktop - representing an unprecedented level of convergence.
In this respect, Microsoft is well ahead of Apple: there have been rumours for some time that iOS and OSX would merge, or overlap more overtly at some point, but Windows 8 manages to pull that off successfully in the here and now. It's a state of affairs reflected in the Surface hardware too. While the RT tablet has access to Metro apps only, the Surface Pro - running Intel ultra-low voltage CPUs - is effectively an Ultrabook class PC squeezed down into a tablet form factor just a little heavier and thicker than the New iPad. It supports Metro while running traditional apps and games (albeit less demanding ones owing to the Intel integrated GPU). Most tantalising of all, the integration of powerful x86 hardware into the tablet form factor is hugely compelling - in a stroke, Microsoft not only provides an intriguing alternative to the iPad, but it is also taking on the Macbook Air too.

RationalCraft brought its surreal Winscape virtual window to market when the Wii was virtually the only game in town for affordable motion tracking. Microsoft's Kinect has certainly changed the rules of the game since then, so it's almost natural that a fourth-generation Winscape has just launched to make use of the much more sophisticated sensor. For a start, there's no need to dress like Flavor Flav anymore: the camera can recognize anyone, even passers-by, without an oversized necklace. The larger-than-life footage used to generate the window effect has been given its own bump, too, and the app can now handle 4K video as long as the Mac underneath (sorry, Windows folks) is powerful enough to drive it. For those who truly want to be disconnected from reality, there's even six-display support provided it's all hooked up to a Mac Pro and a pair of three-output Radeon HD 5770 video cards. RationalCraft's software is free to try out now, although the requirement for at least two big TVs, a Kinect controller and a fast Mac should say all there is to know about the practical cost of pretending the Golden Gate Bridge is visible from inside a living room in Cleveland.

Whether you see Windows Vista and Windows 7 Gadgets as handy tools or a blight upon a pristine desktop, you might want to shut them off for safety's sake. Mickey Shkatov and Toby Kohlenberg have found that the desktop widgets' web-based code have flaws that would allow malicious Gadgets, or even hijacked legitimate Gadgets, to compromise a PC without having to go through the usual avenues of attack. Microsoft's short-term answer to the vulnerability is a drastic one, though: a stopgap patch disables Gadgets entirely, leaving just a barren desktop in its wake. There's no word on a Gadget-friendly solution arriving before Kohlenberg and Shkatov present at the Black Hat Conference on July 26th, but we suspect Microsoft's ultimate answer is to move everyone to Windows 8, where Gadgets aren't even an option. We understand the importance of preventing breaches, of course -- we're just disappointed that we'll have to forgo miniature stock tickers and weather forecasts a little sooner than expected.

News both eyecatching and vague out of Microsoft today as the company has revealed Halo 4 will be compatible in some way with its Surface tablet.
Speaking during a panel at GameBeat 2012, Microsoft president of interactive entertainment Don Mattrick stated that 343’s upcoming sequel in the sci-fi shooter franchise ‘will work’ with Surface.
The statement was confirmed by VentureBeat following the talk.
No other details are available at this time on how the game will interface with the tablet, as Mattrick wouldn’t divulge any other info beyond the original mention. That said, SmartGlass is heavily speculated to be involved.

The millions of voices that suddenly cried out in terror when they discovered that Star Wars: The Old Republic would have a monthly subscription have been suddenly silenced.
No, your eyes have not deceived you – EA has announced that a free trial of the MMO is now available that allows gamers to experience the title for free until their character reaches level 15.
Players will be able to experience all eight character classes in their attempt to become as powerful as the Emperor has foreseen and dabble in a spot of PvP to prove that their skills are now complete.
Furthermore, those who wish to sign up upon completing the trial will be able to carry their character and skills across, whether they be hokey religions, ancient weapons or a good blaster.

Oh, how things change. Tiny Wings 2 is arguably the biggest release in games this week… and it’s free!
Owners of Tiny Wings should keep their eyes peeled for an update to the game. It has already rolled out in New Zealand and should hit the UK around midnight.
What is new, however, is a dedicated HD iPad version that will launch alongside the iPhone app update.
“I [never] clarified if it will be an update or an separate app before the release because then my fans will be happy on the release day when they see that the sequel isn't a separate app and they will get it for free,” creator Andreas Illiger told TouchArcade.
“I worked on the 2.0 version for the last 12 months and everyone told me I should make a separate app out of it and sell it again (because it is almost a new game and I would earn a lot more money). It was a heavy decision for me to give away this new version for free but it feels right (most people I talked about this subject don't understand it).
“So I decided to give it away for free as a big ‘thank you’ to all my fans for changing my life. That's really important for me and the reason why I make this little stupid marketing trick of confusing my fans before the release.”
New modes for the game include Flight School which sees players compete against three AI opponents and 15 new levels. The iPad app has a same-device multiplayer mode.

Steam will not introduce any functionality to allow gamers to sell on products they buy digitally, it has said.
“We don’t have any plans to change,” was the stark response given (twice) to PCGamesN by Valve’s business development director Jason Holtman.
The comments come following last week’s revelation that the European Court of Justice had ruled that consumers who purchase software must be free to re-sell it despite regardless of its licence terms – and crucially, regardless of whether it is a physical or digital purchase.
The news caused a considerable stir in the industry, with some observers even predicting that outlets such as Steam and Originwould have to alter their business models to facilitate the changes

Crowd-funding website Kickstarter has announced that it will allow UK-based projects from Autumn this year.
The news follows the recent successful campaign run by UK developer Stainless Games to fund Carmageddon: Reincarnation, which it achieved by setting up a US office and bank account.
Today's news means that UK developers without the resources to follow in Stainless Games' footsteps will be able to launch their own projects on the increasingly popular site. Until now, UK residents have only been able to contribute.
And if Kickstarter is opening its doors to the UK, it would also make sense to move into the rest of Europe and other areas of the world in time. While many herald crowd-funding as the saviour of creatively-led development - not least Double Fine, which has had the most high-profile success on the site, raising $3.3 million for its new adventure game - appealing to more markets will be essential if Kickstarter wants to maintain is momentum.

"In the wake of the Flame malware attack, which involved the use of a fraudulent Microsoft digital certificate, the software giant has reviewed its certificates, found nearly 30 that aren't as secure as the company would like, and revoked them. Microsoft also released its new updater for certificates as a critical update for Windows Vista and later versions as part of today's July Patch Tuesday. Microsoft has not said exactly what the now-untrusted certificates were used for, but company officials said there were a total of 28 certificates affected by the move. However, the company said it was confident none of them had been compromised or used maliciously. The move to revoke trust in these certificates is a direct result of the investigation into the Flame malware and how the attackers were able to forge a Microsoft certificate and then use it to impersonate a Windows Update server
