The social networking site has triggered an angry backlash from its users after changing the way their email addresses are displayed.
Whilst a user’s preferred email address was displayed by default previously, the company has replaced this with the @facebook.com address provided by the social networking site.
In response to the changes, the company has stated it acted in order to make information “consistent” across its site. However, many have contributed the changes to Facebook’s desire to establish a successful email service, which would in turn drive more traffic to the site and boost advertising sales.
Users of site have already expressed their anger towards the changes and a number of tutorials on how to revert to original email addresses rather than those offered by Facebook have already appeared online.
A statement issued by the company reads: "We are providing every Facebook user with his or her own Facebook email address because we find that many users find it useful to connect with each other, but using Facebook email is completely up to you,"
The site’s email service operates alongside its internal messaging system and is designed to provide users the convenience of checking both types of communication from the same place.
To undo the changes, users need to click on the "about" link within their profile and then “edit” their contact information. After doing this, users must then click to make their Facebook email “hidden from timeline” and select to have their preferred email address visible.

Valve has announced a "massive" update for its free-to-play first-person shooter Team Fortress 2, called Pyromania. The update, to be spread across three days, goes live today with the launch of Doomsday, a new map with a new game mode.In Valve's words: "Doomsday pits BLU against RED, with only one team getting the honor of transporting a suitcase nuke full of recalled Mann Co. Australium to American monkeynaut Poopy Joe's rocket, so he can blast off and hunt down Soviet space chimp Vladimir Bananas. It's the same spirit of competitive enterprise that stalled the moon landing by three years when Buzz Aldrin suplexed Neil Armstrong into a pile of folding chairs at Astromania '69! Both teams will attempt to get the necessary fuel up a preposterously slow-moving elevator and into Poopy Joe's Australium-powered rocket to the stars."Included are achievements, which you can see on the official Doomsday website.Meanwhile, the long-awaited Meet the Pyro - the final Meet the Team short - premiers this Wednesday, 27th June."Keep your eyes open, folk," Valve said. "We'll be announcing a bunch of new stuff this week, right up until the premiere of Meet the Pyro this Wednesday."

You didn't think ASUS pushed its souped up Transformer slate through federal approval for the sake of its health, did you? No, if Best Buy's online store has anything to say about it, the Transformer Pad Infinity's FCC excursion was preparing it for sale. It's not quite ready yet, but when it is, Best Buy will apparently be handing the slab out for $599 and change, netting buyers 64GB of storage, NVIDIA'sTegra 3 processor and a 1,920 x 1,200 10.1-inch Super IPS+ display. The listing appears to be for the WiFi-only version of the tablet, with no mention of the Snapdragon S4-equipped LTE variant that ASUS announced earlier this year. According to the product page, the unreleased hardware is currently "sold out online," but at least you know how many pennies you'll need to pinch. Check it out at the source link below.

Details of the rumoured Google tablet PC have been released following the leak of a company document.
Gizmodo Australia claim to have possession of a training document that offers detailed information surrounding the device's specifications and design, along with a name – the Nexus 7.
The document continues to list the specifications of the Nexus tablet which includes a seven-inch display, 1.3GHz quad-core Tegra 3 processor, 1GB RAM, 1.2MP front-facing camera and a choice of 8GB or 16GB internal storage and will be produced by Asus.
It is reportedly set to feature a new flavour of Android’s operating system, which is codenamed Jelly Bean.
Rumours circulating strongly suggest that the device will be unveiled during Google’s I/O event, which kicks off Wednesday. If true, the device's launch will coincide with Microsoft’s announcement of its tablet PC offering – the Surface – last week.

Beneath SimCity Social's cartoony aesthetic, its inviting pixel population of cosmetic wonders and attractions, lies a core gaming experience familiar to the franchise. This isn't FarmVille; it's "real city-building simulation on Facebook" that EA Maxis hopes people will "appreciate and understand."
Both EA Maxis and Playfish Beijing are working on SimCity Social, which employs key aspects of popular social gaming on Facebook married to some of the core strategy of the series. But it's not just SimCity 2000 crammed onto Facebook – even if that's what it may look like.

If you hadn't been paying too much attention to the wide swath of tablets and clamshells (and mashups of the two) that Microsoft is targeting with Windows 8 and Windows RT, then the announcement of Surfacecontained many surprises. If you have, then there were probably far fewer surprises. But even if you knew just about everything about Windows 8 and Windows RT, you were probably a bit surprised to see Microsoft jump in with its own pair of devices to support the flavors of the imminent Windows upgrades supporting Intel and ARM processors.
After all, the fundamental business model of Windows has relied upon licensing to third parties. Ballmer himself has noted in the past that products that ship in the hundreds of millions (or more) of units per year lend themselves well to the licensing model as opposed to the vertical integration model most notably pursued by Apple among Microsoft's main competitors.

It looks like we’re finally seeing the proliferation of single board computers take off. The latest is called the Gooseberry. While it will cost about £40/$62 USD at release, it greatly outperforms the current crop of tiny Linux boards.
As the latest in what will be a long line of these ARM-ified single board computers, the Gooseberry hugely outperforms the VIA APC and Raspberry Pi with a Allwinner A10 CPU running at 1.2 GHz, 512 MB of RAM, and built-in WiFi. Basically, the Gooseberry has all the features you would expect from an Android tablet; the reason for this is because the Gooseberry actually is the board found in a few Chinese tablets.
There’s a few very nice features like an LVDS output to add LCD displays without hogging the HDMI output, and the form factor is incredibly thin making it perfect for building a small portable device.
After the break you can check out a walkthrough of the Gooseberry board along with evidence of it running Ubuntu.

[Alexandre] wanted to set up a web-based temperature logger with his Arduino, but found the Arduino Ethernet shield a little finicky. Since his Raspberry pi was just delivered, he figured he could use the Raspi as an Ethernet shield with just a little bit of coding.
After [Alexandre] set up his Arduino to send a thermocouple through the USB, the only thing left to do was to add node.js to the Raspi’s Debian installation. Every five minutes, the Arduino wakes up, takes a temperature reading, and sends it over to the Raspberry pi. From there, it’s easy parse the Arduino’s JSON output and serve it up on the web.
In the end, [Alexandre] successfully set up his Raspberry pi as an Ethernet shield to serve a web page displaying the current temperature (don’t F5 that link, btw). One interesting thing we have to point out is the cost of setting up this online temperature logger: the Arduino Ethernet shield sells for $45 USD, while the Raspberry pi is available for $35. Yes, it’s actually less expensive to use a Raspberry pi as an Ethernet shield than the current Arduino offerings. There you have it, just in case you were still on the fence about this whole Raspi thing.

Origin wants to be Facebook to Steam's MySpace
EA's Origin online store wants to be a "better version" of the current downloadable game king, Valve's Steam service. EA senior vice president of global commerce David DeMartini told MCV that Origin is on "a path of constant improvement."
"There are better mousetraps that ultimately get built out of this innovation and the only way you get to the innovation is to have other people try and do a better version of what someone has previously done. And that's what we're attempting to do on Origin," said DeMartini.
"If MySpace had stayed the one answer in social networking and no one switched to Facebook, then we'd all be stuck on MySpace right now and we wouldn't have had the Facebook phenomenon."
"We're on a path of constant improvement. I didn't expect to be able to out-feature Steam within the first 12 months. But I'm quite optimistic we will differentiate ourselves as a service. We've built the foundation and now we are starting to add value to the service off of that foundation."
EA was slammed by some fans for pulling Crysis 2 from Steam after Origin's launch, but the move to keep some of its biggest titles on Origin has obviously helped in the long run.
"If twelve months ago you would tell me we'd be in the conversation, I would have been pretty happy. And when you look at the fact that over 12 million people have downloaded Origin, we have over fifty partners that have flocked to the service in less than twelve months, and we did over $150 million in revenue, which represented 400 percent growth over the previous year - those numbers show we are making huge progress."

A PC re-release for Final Fantasy VII with all the bells and whistles looks to be in the works.
A Google cache of the Square Enix-owned site finalfantasyviipc.com shows substantial evidence for an updated release on PC.
According to the info, the game will add achievements, cloud saves (no pun intended), and a character booster feature that appears to be a casual option for those who don’t want any kind of grind.
Nothing officially confirmed by Square Enix as of yet, but the page claims pricing to be around $12.50 (£7.99/€9.99) upon release—which unfortunately there was no mention of as far as dates go.

An odd addition in Diablo 3’s latest patch has garnered more and more attention over the past 24 hours.
It seems a ‘feature’ similar to the game's Starter Edition has been packed in that puts various restrictions on players who purchase a digital copy of the game for ‘the first 72 hours (sometimes less).’
What it breaks down to is that new, paying customers can only play Act 1 up to the Skeleton King, carry a level 13 cap, and can only interact with other players in the Starter Edition.
Blizzard is claiming the feature has been put in place to combat fraud, but speculation from all over suggests an attempt to ease the game’s notable server woes.
The retail version carries no such restriction, so if you’re looking to avoid this nonsense you’ll want to go that route.
UPDATE: Blizzard has issued a general press response clarifying a few issues that aren't meant to be a part of the restrictions. The publisher's full statement:
"For security reasons and to help ensure the integrity of the game and auction house service, players who purchase the digital version of Diablo III may have to wait until payment verification is complete before they can access certain game features. (See below for a full list of restrictions associated with digital purchases.) While most payments are approved and restrictions are lifted within a day, in some cases it can take up to 72 hours to complete this process.
Similar to World of Warcraft, these restrictions were put in place to deter credit card fraud, which in turn helps reduce gold spam and other harmful activities that can have a negative impact on the game experience for everyone.
However, as an unintended consequence of these security measures, players who purchase the game digitally after patch 1.0.3 are temporarily being capped at level 13 and not able to proceed beyond Act I. We are working to correct this as soon as possible and will provide another update when we have more details to share.
Aside from the two unintended restrictions noted above, below are the standard security-related restrictions that will be in place for digital purchases until payment verification is complete:
· No public game access for unverified digital purchasers
· No auction house access (real-money or gold) for unverified digital purchasers
· Unverified digital purchasers cannot trade items or drop items for other players to receive
· Unverified digital purchasers are not able to chat in any public or game channels
· Unverified digital purchasers cannot attach a custom message to friend requests, but they can send/accept friend requests, and play with their friends
· Global Play is not available for unverified digital purchasers
Again, we want to be perfectly clear that these are temporary restrictions (often lifted within a day and at most 72 hours) associated with digital purchases for the protection of players. We appreciate player feedback and will continue to evaluate the best methods for ensuring a positive game experience for everyone."

PC gamers looking to grab Assassin’s Creed III alongside the game’s console launch appear to be in for a rude surprise.
Originally expected to arrive alongside its Xbox 360 and PS3 counterparts on October 30th US/October 31st PAL, a leaked image snagged by Eurogamer has the PC version arriving on November 23rd.
The PC release lag follows the pattern of previous AC titles.
The date is on a Friday and tied to release in Europe, so likely the US date would land on the prior or subsequent Tuesday.
Ubisoft has since told Eurogamer that “the Windows PC release date is still to be announced.”

Square Enix has released its first-person puzzler Quantum Conundrum on PC via Steam.
The title recently stole the show at this month’s E3 convention held in Los Angeles as one of the most decorated titles showcased, achieving 12 awards and nominations in categories such as Most Innovative, Best Puzzle Game, Best Original Game and Best of Show.
Players of the game take control of a young boy who happens to be the nephew of one brilliant, eccentric inventor – Professor Fitz Quadwrangle. Spending the weekend with their genius uncle, players soon find themselves lost within the technological wonderland that is the Quadwrangle Manor.
Using the wacky inventions found within the estate – specifically the Inter-Dimensional Shift (IDS) Device, players have the ability to shift the world around them and must navigate their way through five different dimensions in order to find their lost uncle. To do this, you must progress through the rooms of the manor, which become increasingly more bizarre and challenging as the game progresses.

Bloomberg has reported that the first versions of the Surface tablet will only feature WiFi connectivity.
There will be no immediate plans for the 3G/4G options according to people ‘familiar with the matter’. Bloomberg’s sources, which have refused to be named, claim: “Microsoft is equipping the device with a Wi-Fi short-range connection.”
As most tablets solely feature WiFi, this might not be much of a surprise if Surface was considered ‘just a tablet’. But with its Pro version featuring Windows 8 in full along with Intel Core i5, many are looking to Surface as a serious rival to the iPad, which has 3G/4G connectivity.
Microsoft’s Surface tablet is expected to launch in October and is rumoured to cost around $599 for the ARM-based Windows RT version, and around &799 for the Intel-based Windows 8 Pro version.

The benchmarks are in for the Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition. Starting at $500, AMD's new single-GPU flagship boosts theoriginal 7970's clock speed from 925 MHz to 1 GHz (1050 MHz with Boost). The GHz Edition also sports 3 GB of faster 1500 MHz GDDR5 memory, pushing 288 GB/s as opposed to 264 GB/s. While the AMD reference board runs hot and loud, retail boards will use different cooling solutions. A simple test of aftermarket GPU coolers shows that any other option will shave degrees and slash decibels.
