Remedy has revealed a PC version of its previously XBLA-exclusive title Alan Wake’s American Nightmare is hitting digital fronts this month.
A product page popped up this morning for the title on Steam, and Remedy has since confirmed with Joystiq that the title will arrive on May 22nd via Steam and GOG.com.
American Nightmare is available for 10% off as a pre-order incentive at both outlets; though those who own the original Alan Wake on PC from one of those stores will be able to pre-order the game for 25% off.
Remedy recently cited its leap onto PC as the reason for Alan Wake’s solid sales numbers.

Wedbush securities analyst believes Bioware delayed Dragon Age to benefit Star Wars MMO
Michael Pachter believes that Bioware transferred developers from Dragon Age 3 to work MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic.
The Wedbush Securities analyst speaks as EA stocks hit a new low following the news STWOR is already losing subscribers, and it seems the MMO may have cost EA more than investors.
"Dragon Age III appears to have slipped to FY:14," Pachter told Games Industry International.
"We had previously expected the next Dragon Age to be released in Q4:13, two years after its predecessor. However, we believe that a significant portion of the BioWare team responsible for the game was reassigned to Star Wars in order to create content and fix bugs to keep the game's audience engaged."
Despite worries that subscribers have already dipped to 1.3 million- a 23 percent loss- EA remains adamant that STWOR is profitable.

Social games giant releases Bubble Safari headed up by former EA creative director
Zynga has released Mark Turmell's free-to-play puzzle game Bubble Safari onto Facebook and its own games platform.
The title is the first game developed by the former EA Tiburon senior creative director since leaving the publisher last year.
Turmell left the company in July last year after just 18 months, and was one of a series of high profile developers to depart EA during 2011, with the publisher's second-in-command John Schappert also jumping ship to Zynga.
Bubble Safari is a puzzle game which has users bursting bubbles to earn power ups and save various animals from poachers, and will feature modes such as time challenge and head-to-head.

Long-awaited shooter becomes latest 2K game with release date extended
Boston studio Irrational Games’ next title will not see light of day until February 26th next year, the group has announced.
The delay pushes BioShock Infinite’s release to the end of the current financial year.
Publisher 2K, which has a reputation for providing its studios with flexible timelines to build their blockbuster games, had previously set BioShock Infinite’s release date for October.
Irrational Games creative director Ken Levine said the delay is necessary for realising the project’s ambitions.
“When we announced the release date of BioShock Infinite in March, we felt pretty good about the timing,” Levine said in a message to the studio’s fans.

Trying to meet the original launch date for the title 'was ultimately futile', says project lead
Trying to release a “Valve quality” Half-Life Source mod by 2009 was a harrowing and frustrating experience, the project lead on the title has revealed.
Speaking to Rock Paper Shotgun, Carlos Montero said that Black Mesa: Source’s entire development had been difficult since the team started work on the game in 2005.
But after the team's first trailer in 2008, which teased a 2009 release for the mod, he said the developers began to cut corners and lost touch with their original ideals in a effort to get it released at any cost.
“We were determined to make this release date come hell or high water, and we killed ourselves to do it,” he said.
“We were cutting corners everywhere, cutting chunks of maps out, rushing through everything, making rash decisions. Basically, we ended up going against all of our core values just to hit this deadline we had set for ourselves.

Publisher Bethesda releases free in-browser edition to celebrate historic shooter
Id Software co-founder John Carmack has released a director's commentary for the original Wolfenstein to mark the game’s twentieth anniversary.
Carmack, who is the only Id Software co-founder still working with the company, talks through the development of the seminal FPS in the video below.
In further commemoration to the game’s legacy, a free web browser edition of Wofenstein 3D has also been released, here, though at the time of going to press there appears to be problems loading the web page.
Carmack established Id Software in 1991 along with John Romero, Adrian Carmack (not related) and Tom Hall.
The Texas studio’s first commercial product was a platform game called Commander Keen, though Wolfenstein 3D proved to be the group’s breakthrough hit.

Vesterbacka substantiates speculation on twitter by mentioning new title
Rovio has teased the studio’s first post-Angry Birds title in a video thanking users for one billion downloads of its flagship franchise.
The Finnish studio’s CEO Peter Vesterbacka appears to have substantiated the speculation on his twitter account by retweeting a story related to the mater.
The game in question refers to an image in the background of a balloon attached to a mechanism, ready to be cut by a pair of scissors.

Microsoft Research has teamed up with researchers from the University of Washington to develop a sonar-based Kinnect-like motion sensing system based only on the speakers and microphone fitted in laptops.
The system depends on the Doppler effect, producing inaudible tones between 18 to 22KHz. The microphone picks up the shifted frequencies to sense movement of objects in front of the speakers in a sonar-like system Microsoft is calling SoundWave.
In a video on Microsoft's Research website, the researchers showed how it was possible to sense gestures including two-handed gestures. A demonstration even shows one researcher playing a game of Tetris simply by making gestures in front of the laptop.
Another simple but obvious application is turning on a laptop display when a user approaches the device. Microsoft also demonstrated SoundWave and hand gestures working in a noisy environment, showing that the system still worked on a laptop in a coffee shop.
Microsoft presented SoundWave at the ACM SIGCHI Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems that took place in Austin, Texas over the last few days. A short paper with more technical details is availablehere (pdf).

Soars into ten figures in a graceful arc, propelled by a giant catapault.
What a phenomenal performance by the freakish Rovio franchise, which passed 500m last November.
Its latest iteration - Angry Birds Space - has helped enormously, powering to 50m installs inside a month. But the total also embraces spin-offs such as Angry Birds Seasons and Angry Birds Rio and Angry Birds.
The big news comes after Rovio confirmed €75.4m of revenues and €48m of earnings before taxes in 2011.
It has 200m monthly active users across all platforms.

JEDEC is still finalizing the standards for DDR4, but that doesn't mean component manufacturers are holding back on developing the tech now. Samsung announced the first DDR4 DRAM module last year, and now Micron has announced that it's developed a working part of its own. Using its 30-nanometer technology, the 4GB x8 part is just the first of many products in the company's DDR4 portfolio -- it will expand to include x16 and x32 parts with initial speeds of 2400 MT/s and eventually the JEDEC's targeted of 3200 MT/s. So when will DDR3 seem like a distant relic? Well, Micron is already sending around samples to clients, and it hopes to begin full-scale production by the end of the year. As always, jump past the break for the full press release.

Internet could host graphic intensive titles 'within the next few years', says Tim Sweeney
Internet browsers will be able to run triple-A games within the next few years, the CEO of Epic Games has claimed.
In an interview with Gamasutra, Tim Sweeney said that in the near future it would be just easy easy to run graphic intensive titles through their browser as it is through their PS3.
"We're slowly heading in that direction as an industry," said Sweeney.
"You should be able to take any game - a PlayStation 3 or iOS game, for example - and just go to that and play it from any web browser."
The Epic CEO added that Flash was already able to translate Unreal Engine 3 to a platform-independent application and run it within any browser, and hoped that HTML5 would be able to make similar strides.

We all know that the Star Wars: The Old Republic galaxy is a huge place, but thanks to some new numbers from EA's 4th quarter financial reports, we now know exactly how huge it is. According to the report, SWTOR is home to 1.3 million active subscribers.
On top of that bit of information, the report also reveals that two new content packs will be available for players sometime in the first financial quarter. We don't know a thing about these content packs yet, except that they're (at least tentatively) titled Legacy (presumably the current Legacy patch) and Allies, so conspiracy theorists, start your engines. Let the speculation begin!

Deflated. Disappointed. Let down. Unsurprised. All of those emotions ran through my being at one point or another following Apple CEO Tim Cook's comments regarding "converged" devices, but if anything, his denial has made me all the more hungry for this particular device. For months -- heck, maybe even years -- I've waited for Sir Jonathan Paul Ive and co. to finally nail the concept of a laptop / tablet hybrid. In many ways, Apple managed to get right on a smartphone in 2007 what I felt was wrong holding a BlackBerry. I still think the iPad's screen is about 2.7-inches too large for my own personal tastes, but the world at large has affirmed that it nailed that design, too. Oh, and the MacBook Air? C'mon -- we all know it's the thin-and-light you always wanted, and given that it'll run Windows with poise, it's arguably the sexiest Windows laptop currently on the market.
The point? Apple has waited for companies to flounder about with certain designs before, all while perfecting its own take for a future release. Windows-based tablets were flooding out in the early noughties, and believe it or not, Toshiba was already giving the tablet / laptop hybrid thing a whirl in 2003 with the Portege 3500. Apple waited over half a decade to usher in the iPad, and the rest -- as they say -- is history. The iPhone followed a similar path; companies came before it and did their best to produced pleasing, long-lasting, highly usable smartphones, but the iPhone completely changed the trajectory of everything that came after. Love it or hate it, it's hard to imagine a 2012 with Windows Phone in it had Apple not pinned Windows Mobile in a corner back in '07.
So, if Apple has shown an ability to thrive with designs that others have experimented with, why is the "converged" laptop / tablet a nonstarter?

The sequel in one of the company's remaining core franchises is coming out in early 2013
THQ today confirmed a sequel to its critically acclaimed strategy title from 2006, Company of Heroes. The sequel, announced only for PC thus far, is in development at Relic Entertainment and is set to launch in early 2013.
It will take place on the Eastern Front, "challenging players to take command of the iconic Red Army and repel the Nazi invaders from the very gates of Moscow."
THQ, which has been in dire straits and has had to cuthundreds of employees this year (including at Relic) while refocusing the company on fewer, higher quality core titles, believes Company of Heroes 2 can be one of its key pillars along with series like Darksiders and Saints Row.
Greg Wilson, Producer at Relic Entertainment commented, "Company of Heroes 2 is a true successor, introducing a new front, new protagonists and new technology while retaining the unique mix of strategic gameplay and competitive multiplayer that made the original Company of Heroes such a success."
Danny Bilson, Executive Vice President of Core Games added, "We are excited to announce a sequel to one of THQ's best loved properties. Company of Heroes 2 will deliver an amazing strategy experience along with a strong post-launch digital content plan that enhances and expands the product's lifecycle."
The game is the first to leverage Relic's proprietary Essence 3.0 Engine "to bring new technological advancements to the strategy genre in the form of innovative Dynamic Battle Tactics, increased graphical fidelity and new environmental destruction, ultimately putting the player in control with new Commander Abilities."

Popular F2P title to blitz into Korea, new presence to be established by Wargaming
Free-to-play MMO developer Wargaming.net, which has seen some tremendous growth over the past year, has announced that it's close to finishing up preparations for a Korean launch of the massively popular World of Tanks MMO.
The new push into a highly competitive market signals a major success for free-to-playP gaming, as Wargaming has been successful in Russia and other parts of the globe. With Korea's major fixation on competitive gaming, World of Tanks is primed to make a large mark on the gaming landscape.
"We are proud to announce that Wargaming.net is just a couple of steps away from establishing its Korean presence," said Wargaming.net CEO Viktor Kislyi. "Now that we're fully prepared to meet high expectations of the Korean gaming community, I don't see any reasons for World of Tanks not to become a success."
"I'm honored to become a part of Wargaming.net team," commented Park Chan Guk, Wargaming LLC in Korea Managing Director. "We've gathered a strong team of professionals in Seoul, who will help us reach all goals we've set."
