InnoGames just released the official trailer for its open beta browser title, Lagoonia. The video, planned for international television as well as online, features high-end 3D graphics and vibrant South Sea sounds, which set the tone for a tropical island game. Multiple language versions of the trailer are ready for TV viewing in Europe, the Americas, and further regions throughout the year. It can also be viewed on .
The trailer storyline mimics the game, by stranding a character on a remote island after a plane crash. After this, the story jumps further to a time when island society is built up, and many characters are interacting, which is a central game-play aspect. Humor and romance are intertwined in order to appeal to a wide audience, including both genders.
German-based Bumba Animation Studio developed the trailer graphics, andIMAScore is responsible for sound production. All other creative was done in-house at InnoGames.
The focus of Lagoonia is on the relationships between characters and players. One can plan and create many things that make the island livable and fun: from a warm fire and a cozy shelter, to useful fish nets, and later in the game lighthouses and waterslides. The game is free and no download is required – the only technical requirements are a browser and an internet connection.
With about 75 million registered players, InnoGames is one of the world's leading developers and providers of online games. The Hamburg-based company has scored major successes with games such as Tribal Wars, The West and Grepolis.

As the chilly winter ends, Indie Royale - http://www.indieroyale.com - is debuting six quality, independent games for its Spring Bundle - altogether worth nearly $50 USD, and available now at less than one tenth of the recommended retail price, with the price increasing (and decreasing!) as more buyers jump on!
The bundle starts off with Futuremark's standout tower defense title Unstoppable Gorg, available for Windows and Mac on Steam, and Windows-only for Desura/DRM-free. The game is packed with campy 1950s sci-fi film nostalgia, with TotalBiscuit praising its "interesting and innovative [gameplay] mechanics", as the player takes on rubbery aliens by rotating weapons through outer-space orbits.
Also featured is Soldak Entertainment's in-depth action RPG Depths of Peril, available for Windows and Mac on Steam, Desura, and DRM-free. The title, described by GamesRadar as "Diablo meets STALKER" on its original release, features tens of hours of questing and combat in a living game world, where competing factions - run by the AI - battle the player for supremacy.
Also joining the Spring Bundle is Secret Base's smile-inducing 2D platformer, Tobe's Vertical Adventure, for Windows on Steam. The alluring 16-bit experience offers two characters with distinct platforming mechanics. Tobe and his crush, Nana, in what IGN calls a "standout platformer" with a "classic gameplay hook and charmingly nostalgic approach."
Finally, Indie Royale favorite Radiangames (Super Crossfire) returns with not one, but _three_ intense arcade-style titles - available DRM-free and on Desura for Windows and Mac. Inferno+ is a 40+ level, atmospheric twin-stick action-RPG starring drones. Slydris is an addictive block-based puzzler with a catchy electronica soundtrack, and Ballistic's intense twin-stick Geometry Wars-style arcade action is filled with concentric waves of devious enemies.
Finally, those who pay $5 USD or their currency equivalent during the Spring Bundle get Danimal Cannon's 'Roots' music album - one of the most acclaimed chiptune releases of 2011, and featuring a combination of wicked Game Boy DMG-01 and shreddin' guitar-centric remixes in 320k .MP3 and .FLAC formats.
More information on the Spring Bundle, including real-time statistics and its current price, is available at its official website http://www.indieroyale.com or via its Facebook http://www.facebook.com/IndieRoyale and Twitterhttp://www.twitter.com/indieroyale pages. And a final reminder - the more buyers, the more the price will increase, unless kind buyers drop the price for everyone else, so hop on and buy soon to avoid disappointment!

Funcom is excited to announce the launch of ‘The Secret War’, a browser-based online social experience inspired by the conflict between the secret societies in Funcom’s upcoming massively multiplayer online role-playing game ‘The Secret World’. Starting today ‘The Secret War’ will run as a campaign where players get to actively spread the influence of their secret society in a highly interactive experience that tracks each secret society’s level of power in the world.
CLICK HERE TO PLAY ‘THE SECRET WAR’
Players start by taking a unique personality to determine what secret society they belong to. After joining a secret society, players are immediately placed in the middle of the secret war and can start recruiting agents to their cause through their Facebook friends list. Players will have to deploy agents to different countries to increase the influence of their secret society in those regions.
As you assist your secret society in their bid for world domination, you will climb their ranks and unlock a wealth of exclusive rewards that can be used in‘The Secret World’ MMO at launch, such as clothes, weapons, elixirs and more. Players can also unlock guaranteed access to the upcoming Beta Weekends, and can win a trip to Montreal to meet the developers of ‘The Secret World’. One of the more exclusive prizes is the opportunity to have your name embedded into the game at launch.
“One of the most interesting features of ‘The Secret World’ is the three profoundly different secret societies that players can join,” says Funcom SVP of Sales & Marketing Morten Larssen. “Since we first announced the game we have gradually revealed more details about them, and what we have seen is that hundreds of thousands of gamers in our community have come to identify with them and form a loyal bond to other community members belonging to the same society. With ‘The Secret War’ experience we are excited about the prospect of allowing for even more community interaction and engagement.”
‘The Secret World’ is consistently mentioned as one of the most anticipated online games in development, and over 750,000 gamers are now registered for the ongoing beta testing. Feedback from media who have experienced the game themselves has been very positive, and the latest demonstrations at GDC 2012 in San Francisco resulted in another round of glowing previews (see the full list here). ‘The Secret World’ breaks new grounds and genre conventions by introducing a modern-day setting, a story-focused MMO experience, and a freeform progression system using no classes and no levels.
‘The Secret World’ is developed by Funcom and co-published by EA Partners, a division of Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: EA). For more information about ‘The Secret World’ or how to register for the beta, please visitwww.thesecretworld.com.

GRAVITAZ blew the doors off its Kickstarter, and we’ve already hit 14% - fantastic! To celebrate, we’re unveiling some new information. Weapon details, track design theories... maybe even some new swag for supporters.
For gameplay footage (it’s the video up top):http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/954522547/gravitaz
For GRAVITAZ info: http://www.glassbottomgames.com/projects/gravitaz/
We had a few prototype vinyl bumper stickers made up, and they look pretty great. What better way to celebrate a racing game than by slapping it onto the back end of your car? Images of the fresh vinyl are available here:http://imgur.com/a/bkPBa
We’ve also answered some questions from our fans, a sample of which is available below. Most of these have come from the SomethingAwful.com forums, where we’re fielding any and all questions:
http://forums.somethingawful.com/sho...readid=3477930
Question: “What would your response be to naysayers who'd say this is just another Wipeout ripoff?” - from ‘Urdnot Fire’
Answer: There are two areas in which we’re really focusing our differentiation: weapons, and track design.
Weapons in racing games have always been a bit of a mixed bag in terms of effectiveness. A missile fires out, hits a car - yay - and then your opponent stops dead in his tracks, you can't swerve in time, and all you've done is knock yourself back. Not fun. So, skilled players just treat the weapons as recharges and instantly absorb them; mid- to high-level play might as well not have weapons at all.
We believe that weapons in a racing game ought to affect racing. Rather than a missile that stops opponents dead in front of you, how about a weapon that shoves them out of the way? One that slings you ahead of people? A power-up that lets you bull through a crowd, knocking everyone back without hurting your standing? Weapons should be strategic, with a real sense of risk and reward. We're steering well clear of anything like Mario Kart’s infamous Blue Shell, or heavy “rubberbanding” physics, but... there's a lot that could be done to make weapons more relevant to the genre.
Track design is another element that's gotten a bit weird. If you look back at Wipeout XL, or Hi-Octane, or any of the earlier racers, you'll see wider tracks. There's plenty of space, plenty of lines to take, and as a result, they were fun for just about anyone. Great players nailed the perfect route, novice players swung a bit wide, and you could dart around opponents and get a true sense of jockeying for position. Fast forward to current day: track widths have been cut nearly in half (by making the cars twice as big visually, amongst other tricks), and the experience has been carved down to just high-end players optimizing lines in tight alleys.
We're going to widen the tracks back out, and work on giving players a sense of choice and risk in the paths they choose. We're also looking at adding shortcuts back to the genre: tactically advantageous side paths that you may or may not want to run depending on your skill level. "Well, I could try and stick that thin path up there, but man, if I fall..." or "Ok, those crunchers just went up, I can make it!"

Scientists, engineers and software developers are always looking for innovative ways to accelerate applications and shorten computational cycles. SoftLayer is looking to help them out by offering a new HPC cloud-based solution consisting of dedicated servers leveraging the latest GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) cards from Nvidia.
SoftLayer’s new offering provides an on-demand, consumptive billing model for High-Performance Computing (HPC) users looking to meet the most compute intensive environments. These environments include traditional HPC fields such as data mining, numerical and seismic analysis as well advertising agencies and web design shops looking to develop interactive games, applications and 3D content.
“Using GPUs for running applications is an emerging trend in HPC today. Computing requirements continue to skyrocket but users remain as demanding as ever. They want capacity on-demand and prefer to pay only for what they use. It is incumbent on hosters to deliver this capacity in a cloud-like fashion if they want to break into this market,” said Philbert Shih, Managing Director, Structure Research Ltd. “Giving people the ability to scale GPU resources adds incredible flexibility in the way research, engineering and development projects are conducted. By putting such raw computational power into a user’s hands, in an easy pay as you go model, the focus is on research results not acquiring or maintaining the latest technology.”
SoftLayer’s new HPC hosting solution consists of dual-processor Intel E5-2600 (Sandy Bridge) based servers supporting one or two Nvidia Tesla M2090 GPUs. GPUs work in conjunction with the server’s CPU to accelerate application and processing performance. The GPU will offload compute intensive portions of the application from the CPU to accelerate overall performance of the machine, dramatically boosting application performance by running in tandem with the CPU. As a result, SoftLayer users will see a massive performance boost and HPC applications accelerated by as much as ten times.
“We are offering breakthrough performance in a unique delivery model,” said Duke Skarda, Chief Technology Officer of SoftLayer. “The beauty of this solution is the way users can break down to toughest computational problems and largest blocks of data to work them in parallel over our network driving quicker results. GPU technology is still in its infancy but customer demand continues to soar as more and more HPC applications get migrated over to cloud infrastructures.”
“Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) providers like SoftLayer are pushing the technological envelope by making the latest technology accessible and scalable through a cloud offering,” said Sumit Gupta, General Manager of Tesla HPC at Nvidia. “This technology is all about performance without compromise and we found a partner in SoftLayer committed to enabling cloud computing services that enable GPU computing from anywhere around the world.”
Key features and benefits:
- Cost effective HPC (ideal for scientific and technical computing)
- Massive compute performance increase while accelerating application speeds by up to 10x
- Cluster management and GPU monitoring
- Parallel compute environment operates invisibly to the user
- GPUs specifically designed to work as computational accelerators

The Central Valley of California is known better for its produce than its games but one independent game studio hopes to change that. SemiFormal Studios has bootstrapped itself through the three-year-long development process of its first game, Ensemble Online. Now, entering into Beta, the Ensemble team has turned to crowd-source funding site, Kickstarter.
“We’re one of the only game development houses in the Valley and certainly the only one working on a project of this magnitude” said Jesse Martinez, Lead Designer for Ensemble Online. “We’ve made it very far, but between legal fees, technology costs, and advertising, making the leap to Beta can be daunting.”
Ensemble is a Realtime Strategy Game much like the classics of the ‘90s, e.g., Age of Empires, but on a breathtakingly vast map and in a persistent world. Players take control of heroes exploring an uncharted desert, battling nature (and other player settlers), uncovering and gathering various resources, and discovering new territory in which to build towns and outposts.
The Kickstarter campaign can be viewed at:http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...nsemble-online

Furthermore, four out of the six playable classes have been revealed today which are listed in detail below.
Spencer Chi, Director of New Game Development at Gamania said: “Soul Captor offers a unique gameplay experience, and we can’t wait to open the servers for closed beta. We are confident that Soul Captor will further bolster the userbase of our beanfun! platform. Soul Captor is a key title that will pave the way for other games in our product pipeline and will further contribute to Gamania’s growth in western markets”.
Key Features:
- Unique and beautiful graphical style
- Soul System that allows players to capture and collect the souls of fallen monsters in the “Soulpedia”
- Captured souls can be used as mounts
- ”Anima” companion system with on-the-fly defensive, offensive or healing capabilities
- In-game cut scenes and rich storylines
- Friends system that allows players to advance bonds with others and gain buffs and bonuses
- Comprehensive Achievement System
- Advanced Autopilot System
- Player vs Environment (PvE) and Player vs Player modes (PVP)
The World of Soul Captor
In the beginning of time, the God of Creation looked out into the chaotic realm, and used his divine power to inhabit a continent with the most beautiful flora and fauna the universe had ever seen. He created the humans in his own image to populate this world and named the continent the “Mortal Realm”. Another continent teeming with life started to imitate the Mortal Realm. Strange creatures possessing abilities different to that of the humans appeared and slowly became known as the “Asura”. Thus, the god of creation named this continent: “Dark Realm”.
Cities were built above these realms where the gods; assigned by the God of Creation, could oversee their inhabitants. With the two worlds in harmony, the God of Creation left. However, his departure created a disturbance and the beasts from the Dark Realm started invading the Mortal Realm. As the force controlling the worlds started to dissolve, a mysterious darkness emerged. You enter this story as a divine oracle and begin your adventure by descending to the Mortal Realm in order to bring peace to the world.
The Classes
Warrior
Proud Warriors are resolute and courageous in battle, wearing heavy armor and wielding powerful weapons. They are very capable in close-ranged combat and are the backbone to any team. Warriors protect other team members from harm and can reduce damage that’s being inflicted by enemies. They even have the ability to exchange some of their defense power in favor for more powerful attacks. This is why they can always be found at the front lines, inflicting fear into their enemies.
Priest
Priests are wise and warmhearted people. With their high will and intelligence, they can cast healing spells and protective charms to ease the burden of the entire party. Some spells also boost allies’ overall defense or attack powers. Although Priests are known for their compassion, they can use their powers to attack enemies with deadly force when their cause calls for it.
Shaman
Shamans work as lone wolves to ambush the enemy. Their natural dexterity provides high defense against physical attacks and they are known to use sinister dark spells to topple their enemies. Shamans practice a line of secret rituals with mysterious healing abilities to remedy the sick, but their blood curses are often fatal.
Onmyoji
Onmyoji wear tall hats and snow-white robes with loose sleeves that conceal weapons and deadly gadgets. They are graceful, elegant, and use their magic to directly inflict damage with powerful spells and chants. EA has quietly made things a little easier for those banned from its digital Origin service, allowing even those scorned by the company to access single player content in purchased and downloaded games. Previously, gamers who behaved badly on official EA forums or otherwise caused their accounts to be revoked were locked out completely, but now EA is saying that by switching the Origin client over to offline mode, players can at least play bought games by themselves.
To get back online, players will need to appeal the ban, for which instructions can be found here. EA does say that most bans are only temporary, but just in case you want to speed up the process, we'll say this: Offering crop sacrifices to an idol of John Ritticello certainly can't hurt.

Described as a "metaphysical sci-fi thriller in the vein of Fringe," Moebius is set to be the first adventure game from Pinkerton Road Studios, pending a successful outcome on its ongoing Kickstarter campaign. Early project backers pushed Moebius through the gate first, and have contributed nearly $174,000 out of the requested $300,000.
The publicity surrounding the project is hinged on Jensen's prior work as designer and author for Sierra's celebrated Gabriel Knight series, in which a long-haired occult expert and demon hunter solved dark mysteries in-between sarcastic quips.
In Moebius, we get an antiquities dealer named Malachi Rector, who's gifted with an ability to sense "the soul" of an object. (So, think of him as having a knack for explaining any nicks on your knick-knacks.) Rector seeks to identify the significance of a woman's suspicious death in Venice, and how that connects to a shifty millionaire named Amber Dexter.
Moebius, as currently envisioned, should arrive sporting a "graphic novel look" in March 2013. Project backers have until then to fund the project and provide feedback throughout its development, possibly starting with an even-handed request to have the name "Amber Dexter" stricken from the game.

Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP is available on big-boy computers today, in the form of a Steam (Swteam?) release. Right now it's PC only, but a Mac version is due to follow.
Purchasing the Steam version of the formerly handheld-only game gets you a digital copy of the companion soundtrack Sword & Sworcery LP: The Ballad of the Space Babies; watch (and listen to) the trailer above to see why that's such an impressive offer. The whole bundle is on sale for $5.99 (normally $7.99) through April 23.

A sequel to Zynga’s farming simulation social network game FarmVille is apparently in the works.
The info comes about according to advertiser Alex Harvey’s résumé(via Superannuation), which claims a successful pitch for FarmVille 2 while working with Zynga as a client.
The work was done sometime between January 2011 and February of this year while with communications agency Isobar.
The original Farmville launched on Facebook back in 2009, and settled in for a long while as the most popular title on the social network until sometime during the middle of last year.
No official mention of Farmville 2 has ever come from Zynga before, so for now take the news with a grain of salt.

RPGS are not cool. The genre conjures images of Dungeons and Dragons, Lord of the Rings and epic adventures that only the most dedicated gamer will ever stand a chance of finishing.
And while they have always been successful (on PC World of Warcraft still reigns supreme), they are hardly mass market entertainment properties.
Well, at least that used to be the case. Last year there were five games that sold over 1m units in the UK – two shooters, a football title, Zumba and an epic dragon and magic adventure game that can consume hundreds of hours of your life.
Bethesda proved with Skyrim that RPGs can reach a mass market audience, even in the hard-to-crack console sector that’s dominated by shooters and dance games.
And it did it shortly after Deus Ex posted good launch figures and before Mass Effect 3 became the biggest selling game in its series.
So for the likes of Namco Bandai, now really is the ideal time to release your critically acclaimed PC RPG on Xbox 360.
“This is the first time that the franchise is to be released on console and it’s a big step in taking this title to the masses,” says Namco Bandai’s marketing director Lee Kirton.
“It will also deliver one of the best RPGs to sit alongside some of the great titles out there such as Skyrim, Dark Souls and Mass Effect.
“It’s a very different game to anything else currently out and we hope that fans of RPGs in general will want to play it.
“We are investing heavily this time of the year. We want this to be the first major title for release in April and to grow the word-of-mouth on what a brilliant game it is.”
WITCH HUNT
The Witcher is based on a series of fantasy short stories by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski from the 1990s. It made the move into games with CD Projekt’s The Witcher in 2007. The game was critically acclaimed and even utilised BioWare’s own Aurora Engine.
The series nearly made it to consoles in 2009 with The Witcher: Rise of the White Wolf, but following internal development struggles, it never saw the light of day.
Yet the series lived on, and The Witcher 2 emerged in May 2011. The game was a commercial hit, shifting 940,000 copies in just three months. Most sales were made via retail (roughly 200,000 were sold via the likes of Steam).
And this coming Tuesday (April 17th) marks the series’ debut on 360.
“It stands toe-to-toe in terms of development production value with the biggest RPGs,” says Kirton on the game’s popularity.
“It’s a 50-hour-plus experience that will grab you from the start. It will be talked about for many years to come. This edition has been secretly in development for a long time and it’s no port. The player will find over four hours of additional quests, new cut scenes, characters, a new opening CGI and other surprises. The game has already won hundreds of awards on PC and the work to develop it for 360 has been commendable.”
Namco Bandai isn’t just chucking The Witcher 2 out on shelves and hoping Skyrim fans will lap it up. Kirton and his team are advertising the title directly at these RPG devotees. There’s an exclusive review in Official Xbox Magazine, with covers, video features, trailers and more appearing regularly.
“We hope to attract a more mainstream buzz, but our overall marketing and PR is focused at those playing Mass Effect and Skyrim,” says Kirton.
“The game is good. People know about it. It’s developed by one of the world’s best RPG developers. The franchise has won over 100 awards. The Metacritic for The Witcher 2 is high. The console version is stunning – an epic journey and one of the most engrossing adult RPGs ever.
“Our expectations are high, but the market is hard to judge these days. We are passionate about the franchise and we are doing everything we can to shout about how great this game is.”
