Irish tablet maker Disgo has launched a 10.1-inch Android 4.0 tablet called the Disgo Tablet 8104, priced at less than £150.
As the latest example of the rise of the cheap tablet market, theDisgo Tablet 8104 actually has some pretty good specs. The 10.1-inch 1024x600 pixel screen is mated with a 1.2GHz single-core ARM Cortex A8, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of flash, 802.11n WiFi and a micro SD card slot.
The 8104 is just 9.1mm thick and comes with a decent 6.5AH battery which is good for around six hours of use. While the tablet ships with Android 4.0, there's no Google Play store so owners will need to either install apps directly or use an alternative app store such as SlideMe.
The Chinese-made Boxchip A10, which features in any number of low-end Android tablets, is hardly going to shame any ARM A9-based dual-core processors in high-end Android phones and tablets. However it does offer the highly competent Mali 400 GPU so the tablet should be pretty good at 3D games too.
The device is priced at £149 and will go on sale in May from Amazon.co.uk, Play.com and other retailers. None of them seem to list the 8104 right now but Value Media lists the tablet for an even lower £138, with nearly 1,000 in stock. Or so they say.

The update also packs in four maps, two from Quake Arena Arcade and two inspired by the popular Campgrounds map.
The content will be free to all Quake Live users through this Sunday, May 6. The $1.99 per month premium wall goes back up after that, so get it while the gettin's good. Head over to the Bethesda Blog for details on all the new maps and modes.

Well, Apple's reign atop the list of the world's top PC makers was short lived. After clawing its way into the lead, if you counted the iPad as a PC, HP is back atop the heap -- even with Cupertino's tablet-inflated numbers. According to Canalys, the Palo Alto company shipped 15.8 million units in the first quarter of 2012, barely sneaking passed Apple by 40,000 computers. Of course, remove Apple's 11.8 million iPads, and it's not even a competition. Lenovo, Acer and Dell rounded out the top five, with the total market shooting up 21 percent over the same time last year. However, there is plenty of reason to believe we won't see client PC fly out the door at such an incredible rate. Amazingly, according to Canalys, tablets accounted for 40 percent of all PC shipments in the US. For more details check out the PR after the break.

Blizzard explains how players will attempt to replace the jobs they currently hold with Diablo III
[h=3]Activision Blizzard[/h]Headquartered in Santa Monica, California, Activision Blizzard, Inc. is a worldwide pure-play online...
www.activisionblizzard.com
[h=3]Blizzard Entertainment[/h]www.blizzard.com
With Diablo III coming in just two weeks, Blizzard has detailed how its auction house will operate in-game. The game will offer two different auction houses that players can switch between at any time: the in-game gold auction house and the real-money auction house. The houses are further separated into three independent regions:
The Americas - Covering US, Canada, Latin America, Australia, New Zealand, and Southeast Asia. Europe - European Union, Eastern Europe, Russia, Africa, and Middle Eastern countries such as Israel and the United Arab Emirates. Asia - South Korea and the regions of Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau.
Those who use the real-money auction house will be subject to certain transaction fees when selling items. For equipment, Blizzard takes a $1.00 transaction fee per item. For other commodities, like gems, dyes, and recipes, Blizzard will take 15 percent of the final sale price. Players can have their real-money earnings transferred to their Battle.net account, or transferred out to Paypal for a 15 percent transfer free.
Blizzard has also announced that players can play on other regions outside their own, though they'll remain restricted to their home region for the real-money auction house. Characters, items, and friends lists will not transfer across regions.
The full skinny on the auction house can be found on Blizzard's official site for the game. Diablo III will be out on May 15, 2012.

Strictly Come Dancing: The Game. It’s real. And it’s free to play. And you can play it now.
It may not be as obvious and natural a fit as the BBC’s other gaming license – Doctor Who – but as BBC Worldwide digital entertainment and games boss Robert Nashak observes: “Strictly’s Dancing with the Stars brand is a global pop culture phenomenon and developing this game has been a major initiative for our business.
“We've tried hard to create a fun and authentic experience that fully engages players in everything that it takes to be a celebrity contestant on the show.”
The game stars some of the series’ pro dancers, including Artem Chigvintsev, Natalie Lowe and Pasha Kovalev. Avatars can be customized and different dances learnt.
Richard Halliwell, the commercial director of the BBC’s US show Dancing With the Stars, added: “Helping Strictly fans who may be suffering from withdrawal symptoms when the show is off-air here in the UK is our goal here at BBC Worldwide.
“In addition to rolling out brand extensions such as cruises and an intimate live UK theatre show this summer, the Strictly Keep Dancing online game offers fans a really accessible and exciting way to interact with the brand during the dancing dry spell.”
You can try the game at StrictlyKeepDancing.com

Debut presentation by Frontier boss on microcomputer scheduled for Brighton event; Early bird ends today
David Braben is to deliver a session at the Develop in Brighton Conference that looks at the past, present and future of the Raspberry Pi microcomputer.
The presentation by the co-founder of the Raspberry Pi Foundation and boss of development studio Frontier will be the first to the games industry from Braben on the diminutive coding platform.
The session, titled ‘Raspberry Pi – the story so far’, promises to reveal how programming on the hardware is being picked up post-launch, look at what the computer is practically capable of, and examine the most exciting work carried out with the platform thus far. Attendees of Braben's talk can also expect a preview of the next iteration of the Raspberry Pi computer.
The talk is the first confirmed session for the new Develop Visionaries track, which is set to bring a number of presentations from those pushing the boundaries of the games development sector.
“We’re very excited to announce David Braben as our first Develop Visionaries speaker,” said Andy Lane, managing director of Develop in Brighton organiser Tandem Events. “From social games and mobile apps to motion-controlled consoles and virtual goods sold in virtual worlds – all the big business trends in games began years ago with a bright idea from the fringe. Through Develop Visionaries, we're dedicated to finding the kind of people who have these sorts of ideas, and sharing their ideas with Develop in Brighton’s delegates.”

Typically overclocking of CPUs requires increasing the voltage to reach the higher clock speeds but a number of reports on Ivy Bridge overclocking have found that increasing the voltage rapidly results in heavier power consumption and heat.
AnandTech's report on overclocking Intel's Ivy Bridge suggested that former owners of the previous generation Sandy Bridge processors may be "severely disappointed" by the overclocking potential of the new 22nm Ivy Bridge.
"Ultimately, Ivy Bridge hates voltage," said AnandTech's Ian Cutress.
The Tech Report found that additional voltage wasn't generally necessary to reach pretty decent speeds. "The Core i7-3770K was stable at 4.4-4.5GHz without so much as an extra millivolt applied to the CPU," they said.
Perhaps the most interesting feature of Ivy Bridge is the ability to run at low voltages and consume very little power, particularly as Intel has played their usual conservative hand in terms of default voltage/speeds.
To illustrate the point, AnandTech found that the Ivy Bridge flagship i7-3770K could be simultaneously overclocked from 3.5GHz to 3.9GHz while also reducing the voltage to 0.9v volts. The result is higher performance while raising the CPU temperature just 2 degrees to 53C.
The 'undervolting' potential of Ivy Bridge probably shouldn't be a surprise given that Intel sells various postfix labelled versions of each processor which draw less power than the standard model.
Those demanding the best performance can still achieve something like 4.4GHz with the i7-3770K while hitting a heatsink temperature less than 70C. Not bad.
The moral of the story is, Ivy Bridge overclockers would be wise to read up before using similar settings to earlier Sandy Bridge chips.

Google has launched an online game called Cube to promote the internet giant's Google Maps service.
Cube offers a 3D animated cube with each face made up of the down town regions of major world cities. The player's task is to navigate to particular destinations in the shortest time.
Moving around is a bit like marble madness. The game is also a pretty swish example of the state of browser games too and is worth a look just to see the 3D maps cube itself.
Once upon a time Google might have just whacked it up as a curiosity that vaguely promotes Maps but sadly these days the company is a little more overt. Each stage of the gaps reminds the player about various Google Maps features and has a link to learn more.
Still, it's a fun blast and you might learn something useful about Google Maps along the way so why not?
Cube is at www.playmapscube.com.

Nielsen Research is behind the data, which shows how much the US loves being connected to mobile media.
Almost half of all American tablet owners use the device while watching TV daily, while 69 per cent do so several times per week.
Checking emails was the highest priority with 61 per cent, with particular interest from 35-54 year olds and those aged 55+ securing 65 per cent apiece, while females bagged 64 per cent.

Angry Birds Space has hit the coveted 50 million download milestone, shaving 15 days off of Draw Something's recent '50m downloads in 50 days' record.
Now, Rovio claims the result makes Angry Birds Space the "fastest growing mobile game yet", breaking all of the firm's previously held records.
The developer, blogged: "While numbers like this certainly say something about the popularity of Angry Birds, for us the main goal is to keep creating fun new experiences that everybody can enjoy!"
Rovio mysteriously added that "something even bigger is on the way."

Almost six weeks ago, we announced you that ScummVM has been accepted by Google for its Google Summer of Code 2012. Since then, we received many good applications and we asked a lot of efforts to the students to clarify and enhance theirs. We'd like to thank them all for all these efforts!
Yesterday, Google announced the list of accepted students and tasks per project and it's with great joy that we announce you that this year, 4 students will be working on ScummVM tasks:
- Jakimushka will work on a new testing framework based on an event recorder/player
- Singron will turn scalers into plugins and will add some new ones
- Somaen will integrate the Wintermute Lite engine and will add some currently missing functionalities
- Upthorn will work on a new save anywhere feature, per engine, particularly useful for mobile devices
We'd like to welcome them warmly and to wish them the best! And of course, last but not least, we'd like to thank Google for giving us the possibility, once more, to work with talented students during summer time.

This year's entry in the Call of Duty franchise is a direct sequel to Treyarch's 2010 Cold War-focused Black Ops and arrives in stores on 13th November, according to a retailer leak.An image of PS3 and Xbox 360 pre-order cards for US chain Target posted by IGN is the source of the info. This shouldn't come as a huge surprise to anybody - every single Call of Duty game to date has launched during the month of November with the exception of the very first installment, which released on 29th October 2003.First indication that we'd be getting a straight Black Ops sequel came via a rapidly-pulledAmazon France listing back in February. An official reveal is scheduled for 1st May during the NBA play-offs in the US. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/20...-leaked-report

A bundle of Modern Warfare 3 DLC will finally make it to PC hard drives on May 8, delivering sustenance to starving hearts and under-used high-DPI mice the world over. The "Content Collection" pack includes four maps (Black Box, Piazza, Liberation, Overwatch) and two Spec Ops missions (Negotiator, Black Ice).
If any of that sounds familiar, it's because all of this DLC was already released on the PS3 earlier this month, and on the 360 back in March. Activision has yet to announce pricing for the pack, but if its console counterparts are any indication, it'll probably run somewhere around $15 bucks.

If you've been defiantly clinging onto Firefox 3.6 by your fingertips, bad news. Mozilla is officially putting it to sleep -- whether you like it or not -- by auto-updating users to version 12. You've still got a few days to bid your emotional farewells, with the switchover being pegged as early May. But, the browser's creators stop short of setting a date for you to get the flowers delivered by. Official support for the 2010 release finished this week, and the final bout of security fixes was back in January. At the other end of the spectrum, Firefox 13 wobbled up onto its beta legs yesterday, bringing a new homepage, Google's new SPDY protocol and tab extra features with it. If you're making the leap, don't panic if you find some old friends missing.

The Deep Silver game Risen 2: Dark Waters has arrived on PC.
The pirate-flavoured RPG is of course a sequel to Risen, and is digitally distributed on PC. There are new gameplay elements this time around, including the ability for players to use firearms and 'dirty tricks' such as confusing enemies in combat.
Developer and distributor Deep Silver has already released two DLC offerings to go alongside the game. First up is the 'Treasure Isle', which is an extra quest including plot points from the first Risen, for £7.99, while 'A Pirate's Clothes' adds extra pirate clothes, funnily enough, as well as a special ring to increase the rate in which the player accumulates experience by five per cent, and costs £2.49.
The console version has been delayed slightly and should now reach the UK on August 3rd for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.

EA could be preparing to branch out with its already diverse Sim universe.
The publisher has filed a trademark for a mysterious 'SimOcean', fueling speculation that we could soon see a new Sim game that takes players into the aquatic depths Earth's blue bits.It wouldn't too far fetched considering the diversity of the Sim series already. Sure, you've played SimCity, but what about SimCopter, Sim Ant or SimHealth? Yeah, they happened.
Maybe SimOcean will turn up at E3...
