We've known for some time that a new game in id Software's Wolfenstein FPS series is in the pipeline and it now appears that Raven Software is handling development of the title.
A report appearing on WISC-TV has linked the Quake IV developer with the Wolfenstein game in an article that's focussed on current hardware technology and computer animation.
The report's been picked up by Yahoo News and it's said the title is out in 2008. The only other real piece of information concerns the appearance of an "elite force assassin" in the game with actor Carrie Coon speaking about her motion capture experience for this character.
"They had me kind of bust through doors with big guns and pretend I was an assassin being that didn't have a spine and club a body of something on the ground and sniff it," Coon explained. "You know, it was one of the most bizarre audition experiences I've ever had in my life."

Crysis developer Crytek has begun work on a top secret new game, it's revealed.
The mystery title, which is being developed at Crytek's satellite studio in Kiev, is a "new original IP" and will be powered by the dev's proprietary game engine CryENGINE 2, which of course is what Crysis is being built on.
Although the developer is keeping cards extremely close to its chest where the new game is concerned, Crytek MD Faruk Yerli has hinted it'll release on more than PC and may well be the first non-FPS from the developer.
"Now that our CryENGINE 2 middleware has reached the point of maturity where it can be used to support both different types and styles of games, and run on multiple platforms, we thought it was the optimum time to begin work on a new project based on our own new and original intellectual property, and elevate the Kiev operation to full studio status", Yerli explained.

We've just spent the last 60 seconds or so gawping at Crysis multiplayer, which is on show in a brand spanking new trailer that we've uploaded here so you can enjoy too. So, ah, enjoy!
Crysis dev Crytek is pulling out all the stops to make the game's multiplayer component kick serious ass, so it should be a far, far better experience than Far Cry multiplayer was. In fact, the developer's said previously that the team working on multiplayer Crysis is much bigger than the team that produced Far Cry multiplayer, Crysis producer Jack Mamais explaining Crytek is "hoping to make Crysis multiplayer as good as the single-player, if not better."
Previous Crysis previews featuring on the site have looked in length at multiplayer, so be sure to check those out here and here.
A Crysis multiplayer beta is planned, and we're expecting a multiplayer demo - in addition to a single-player demo - to hit the 'net before the game launches.

MMORPG EverQuest II is letting out its girdle to accommodate Rise of Kunark, a fourth expansion for the game which is due to release mid-November.
As you'd expect, the expansion is going to introduce lots of new content headed up new playable race the Sarnak (dragon-like humanoids) and new starting location Timorous Deep.
Timorous Deep is made up of jungle islands, Sony Online Entertainment has explained, and should carry players through from level 1 to 20.
Timorous Deep isn't the only new zone in the expansion, either. SOE has decided to cast an eye back to the original EverQuest for many of the new zones, with versions of the likes of Karnor's Castle, the Lake of Ill Omen, Sebilis and Veeshan's Peak returning.
Naturally, new zones means new quests, SOE informing that "The tale of Kunark is told through hundreds of new quests, aimed at gameplay of all types: solo, group, and raid." It's also said that guilds, adventurers, and artisans can expect to benefit from a raised level cap, as all level caps are raised to 80, in addition to new solo, group, and raid content for levels 65-80.
Phew... And, new weapons and armour, a new mount - the Kunarkian Rhinoceros - and new deities are being squeezed in.
EverQuest II players can expect Rise of Kunark to release mid-November. It'll be made available via digital download and at retail outlets.

Should news of Capcom brining its Xbox 360 shooter Lost Planet: Extreme Condition to PC tweaked your interest, then you'll want to mark May 15 in your diaries - the company is releasing a demo of the PC version of the game on that date.
Capcom's said the demo features DirectX 10 support (along with DirectX 9 obviously), and it's previously made a song and dance about the visual improvements made for the PC version of the game - it features "enhanced graphics and effects to optimise the realistic presentation and explosive action in the game, including better shadows and more detailed textures, as well as higher monitor resolutions."
We're currently awaiting further details on the demo - like, what the content is.
Lost Planet is a full-on action blaster where players battle aggressors in adverse environments.

It's been some time since we last saw Saber Interactive's shooter TimeShift, but it's back today in a new trailer - and it appears the developer's put the game under the knife during the its absence from the public eye.
What we're shown is a darker, more gritty game compared to what we've seen previously, with the lead character looking like he's just stepped out of a Marvel comic book.
But the time-bending heart of the title has remained intact and the trailer shows how slowing, freezing and reversing time is used in gameplay.
check the trailer out to see what you think. TimeShift is in development for PC and Xbox 360.

"We are waiting for confirmation of the release date as it's moved forward a few days", a Microsoft UK spokesperson told us when contacted.

PC and Xbox 360 action game Shadowrun is out in the UK on June 1, Microsoft has confirmed.
Shadowrun is the first title out the door that supports cross-platform play between PC and Xbox 360, such made possible through Microsoft's Xbox Live and Games for Windows - Live services.
The game is based on the pen and paper RPG of the same name, dropping players into a near-future world where they have access to magic and kick-ass tech and weaponry. You get to fight for global mega-corporation RNA or the spell-loving Lineage and blast things to kingdom come.
Shadowrun is one of only two games announced so far that'll support cross-platform on release. The second is UNO, which is expected to lay its cross-platform cards on the table at the end of the year. It's possible that Valve's Team Fortress 2 will ship with cross-platform support, but nothing's definite.

Codemasters Online Gaming has magically revealed that Book 9: Evendim will be the first of many significant expansions for Lord of the Rings Online when it arrives sometime this month.
It will add a vast new area for players to explore, Evendim, which will offer more than 60 quests to get stuck into, plus lots of content for players over level 30 - including the first major raid in the game.
There's also a spattering of new skills to enjoy, enhancements to the Champion class, as well as a handful of new monsters and a fresh storyline to get stuck into.
You see, Aragorn needs your help to scour the ancient city of Annúminas for the powerful relics within, so that he can repair his uber sword. Typical royal behaviour. You'll also get to meet an Ent who is roaming the hills in search of some missing Entwives.
It's just the start of the ongoing support Codemasters Online Gaming will offer the game, according to product manager Ed Blincoe, who insists the publisher has huge plans for the future.
"The Lord of the Rings Online has had a great launch. We're please to welcome the hundreds of thousands of people that have already signed up to play the game," Ed Blincoe told Eurogamer. "We have huge plans for content updates going forwards and the arrival of The Shores of Evendim just a few short weeks after launch highlights this perfectly."
The Lord of the Rings Online is a massively-multiplayer online role-playing game that is actually pretty ruddy good. You can't play as Aragorn and the Fellowship cronies, but you can interact with them on crucial storyline quests.

May 9th, 2007, 22:10 Posted By: wraggster
Don't go calling it confirmed, but Valve gave us a very strong hint that Episode Three will be a climactic battle in the arctic when we visited them in Seattle recently.
The arctic base is glimpsed in Episode One.
The battle takes place at the arctic base we see Mossman reporting in from during Episode One, and the battle that takes place there is described in great detail in Valve's Half-Life 2 coffee-table book, Raising the Bar. It was intended to be the climax of Half-Life 2 itself, but was cut when the game's scope was scaled back. So it makes perfect sense that Valve would want to flesh it out in the final episode of the post-Half-Life 2 trilogy, when they've got time to do it justice - Episode Three has been in development for as long as Episode Two already.
After some futile probing about the details of Episode Two's plot (I came away with "Someone somewhere on the internet is right" written in my notes), I went all-in and suggested that Episode Three would be the huge arctic conflict described in Raising the Bar. And rather than yet another "You'll have to wait and see", PR man Doug Lombardi said "That would be exciting, wouldn't it?"
Taking that as a yes, I told them they gave away too much in Raising the Bar. Doug agreed: "We figure if you're paying $25 for a book, we ought to give away something."
The full story is in our hands-on preview of Episode Two, part two of the comprehensive Valve playtest in the latest issue of PC Gamer UK. Episode Two is due out at the end of September this year, and if their release schedule so far is anything to go by, Episode Three could be 18 months after that. So, uh, keep this to yourself.

What's going to drive Windows Vista gaming this year? Well ask anyone in the know (ie. us) and they'll tell you that the holy trinity is shaping up to be Crysis for FPS fans, Age of Conan for MMO groupies and World in Conflict for RTS aficionados.
That last one is what concerns us here with the fresh release of a new movie showing NATO the third faction from Massive Entertainment's intriguing RTS title.
Available as a partially playable support faction in the single-player campaign and as a fully playable force in the multiplayer version, NATO will feature the combined might of both British and German armies (on the same side for once) with iconic vehicles and equipment like the Leopard main battle tank which you can see in action in this latest movie.
We've uploaded the movie for your viewing pleasure and keep 'em peeled on CVG for further coverage on what's shaping up to be one of the stars of this year's DirectX 10 firmament.

For a project as mind-bogglingly ambitious as Will Wright's Spore the occasional delay is expected. But according to an Associated Press report this morning the wait for the organism sim will probably end up stretching into next year.
In the report EA warns that it expects Spore may miss the fiscal 2008 calendar year which ends in March 2008. Although no official release date has ever been set for the game, many will be getting slightly itchy at the thought of having to wait another entire year before the game is in the publics' hands.
