For that cheapskate in all of us, PopCap has announced that they will be giving away free copies of their mega-hit Bejeweled Deluxe -- as a Mother's Day gift for your maternal caretaker, of course.
Beginning tomorrow, May 9, and continuing through May 23, existing and new subscribers to their newsletter will receive a registration code via email for a full retail copy of Bejeweled Deluxe. The offer must be redeemed before May 30.
If your mother already has Bejeweled or, on the other end of the spectrum, has never figured out how to use a mouse, then consider this a gift for yourself. For most countries, Mother's Day is coming up this Sunday (May 13), so if not this, you better of think of something to give.

Liam 'Jedi Knight' Neeson will voice the lead role in Bethesda Softwork's role-playing sequel Fallout 3, the company has revealed.
Neeson, who sports a beard the calibre of which young Mike Jackson can only envy, will play the role of the player's father and will appear prominently throughout the game.
"This role was written with Liam in mind, and provides the dramatic tone for the entire game," said Todd Howard, executive producer of Fallout 3.
"It's been a pleasure bringing the father to life and working with the wonderfully talented people at Bethesda on Fallout 3," said Neeson. "I hope the fans of the franchise and the game will be excited by the results."

Lock ‘n Load Publishing, the sole publisher of Lock ‘n Load board games, announced today that their semi-highly anticipated downloadable masterpiece, Island War Deluxe is ready for purchase (www.locknloadgame.com).
“We really didn’t want to steal Spiderman’s thunder on his big weekend, but the game was ready, so we put it up,” stated Mark H. Walker, founder and owner of Lock ‘n Load Publishing.
Island War Deluxe is Lock ‘n Load Publishing’s most ambitious downloadable project yet. A tactical game covering the battles in the South and Central Pacific in World War II, Island War deluxe places the player in the shoes of a Japanese or U.S. Marine company/ battalion commander. The system design is by Mark Walker, Mark and Bill Wilder (The Proud and the Few, numerous Steel Panthers campaigns and scenarios) designed the scenarios, and the art is by Nicolas Eskubi and David Julien.
Gamers direct squads, leaders, tanks, artillery, and air support across four lush, geomorphic maps as you recreate some of the most famous engagements of the era. They command Marines armed with BARs, M1919A6 and A4 machineguns, flamethrowers, and satchel charges. Order Sherman and Stuart tanks to blast tough cave and bunker emplacements or call on the Navy’s F4F to swoop on the Japanese from above.
As the Japanese players may lead their soldiers in a Banzai charge, infiltrate them behind enemy lines (without any lame hidden placement rules) and pin down the Americans with Type 96 and Type 92 machine guns. The Japanese also have light and medium tanks, in addition to Betty bombers, at their disposal.
The game ships with over 131 counters, four geomorphic maps, a simple, yet colorful rules system, and seven scenarios. This engaging game can be downloaded, printed, and ready to play in less time than it takes to watch the Yankees blow a three run lead.
But wait, that’s not all. If printing isn’t your style, use the complete VASSAL module that ships with the game. The module includes all the counters, charts, maps, and scenarios (with the counters already laid out) you’ll need to play right away. Better still, the module includes a tutorial that teaches the basics of VASSAL as it applies to Island War Deluxe.
Print and play on your kitchen table, or use your computer at work. You can’t miss. Lock ‘n Load Publishing… More Games, Less Guff.
Scenarios include:
Bloody Ridge: The 2/5 Marines try to fight off the Japanese 35th Infantry Brigade as they attack toward Henderson Field.
Nishi: A Sherman tank helps Marines clear a ridge, laced with caves, near the tip of Iwo Jima.
Taking the Wanna Ridge: Marines go cave busting near the southern edge of Okinawa. The Japanese play hide ‘n seek, moving from cave to cave.
In the Sun: A Marine patrol is ambushed. Can they escape massacre on the beaches of Guadalcanal?
Forerunner: Marines tighten the nose on Mt. Suribachi.
A Place Called Betio: The beaches of Tarawa. Hard fighting. Air support. Japanese and Marine tanks. Enough said.
Healing Under Fire: Navy Corpsmen try to save Marine lives, as the Marines try to save the Navy Corspmen.

press release:
The Camo Workshop and Shrapnel Games would like to report that a new patch for winSPWW2 is now available for immediate download from Shrapnel Games. The patch, only about 2 MB in size, upgrades all versions of winSPWW2 to version 2.5.
While small in size the patch addresses several important issues, which are:
36 Updated OOB files
Upgraded ScenHack
There was a problem in the game campaign code affecting some players that would prevent them from deleting a campaign core formation after purchase. This has been fixed.
A bug in ScenHack would prevent players from loading scenarios made with version 2.0. Fixed.
The OOB changes are mainly the result of correcting discrepancies between some weapons and units in the various OOB's that use them. All OOB's were then put through the cost calculator once again to ensure uniformity .
Smoke shells will only be issued to land based 60mm - 159mm caliber artillery and mortar units. Rockets will not have smoke issued except for the German Nebelwerfer 41 15cm rockets.
The version 2.5 patch may be downloaded from the following link:
www.shrapnelgames.com/SPCamo/wSPWW2/6.htm
winSPWW2 is a tactical system covering combined arms combat between the years 1930 and 1946. Featuring both historical and hypothetical engagements, winSPWW2 uses the classic SSI game, Steel Panthers 2, as a foundation to create one of the most detailed and intense gaming experiences on your PC.
Longtime wargamers will appreciate gameplay reminiscent of the best boardgames, with the time-honored use of hexes and turn based play. No real-time clickfest here! Fans of historical simulations in general will love the robust elements found in winSPWW2, such as literally hundreds of individual scenarios to choose from, and a number of scripted long campaigns. winSPWW2 also fully supports multiplayer for two players, either through single-computer hotseat play or via e-mail.
winSPWW2 is available as a FREE download or a purchasable Enhanced CD edition. In both cases the core game remains the same. The free download includes all the scenarios of the Enhanced CD edition, supports multiplayer, and is fully supported. The Enhanced CD edition is just that, providing gamers with a number of enhancements to their core gameplay experience. Owners of the Enhanced CD edition can play the game in resolutions up to 1600x1200, a map editor that supports creating small maps easily out of one large mapfield, 250 secure PBEM slots, encyclopedic sorting, and the ScenHack and CampaignHack utilities.
More information on this title can be found at www.shrapnelgames.com, along with our complete catalog of award-winning titles spanning a spectrum of genres and play styles. leading video game developer and publisher Fireglow GamesTM, best known for its Sudden Strike® series, today presents Steiger – one of the three main heroes of the upcoming cutting-edge RPG/RTS-blend Stranger®. The character for advanced players that like challenging gameplay.
In his home world, Steiger was an educated spy. His last quest was to investigate the bizarre happenings in the City of Wizards. Therefore he knew how to survive in hostile surroundings and adapted very quickly to the world of Stranger, called Kront. Steiger is perhaps the most flexible of our heroes. His ability to powerfully wield an axe in melee helps him to get rid of monsters getting too close. But his skills in using a crossbow are unsurpassed and help him decimate enemies before they come close, including flying ones.
Steiger is not only a valiant fighter because of his fighting ability, but also because of his excellent vision and hearing. While others may pass unaware, Steiger "feels" hidden magic artefacts and machines that could aid his course.
Already being deadly himself, Steiger's full power is to be seen when he is leading a squad of units. His mastery in using the green spectrum of magic crystals allows him to heal wounded soldiers and even to resurrect dead ones. Facing an army that will stand up every time you knock them over might be found hard to overcome…

CellFactor: Revolution, an intense recruiting tool in the form of a first person shooter PC game is now available for download from FileFront (1UP), FilePlanet (IGN Entertainment) and Gamespot recruiting stations. CellFactor: Revolution challenges gamers’ Psionic aptitude and strategic combat abilities in a grueling five level, physics-intensive, gaming environment.
L.I.M.B.O. Corporation has drafted Immersion Games, Artificial Studios and Timeline Interactive to bring CellFactor: Revolution to fruition. L.I.M.B.O. also tapped the power of AGEIA Technologies’ PhysX™ Processor to produce an interactive, physics-based gaming experience. CellFactor: Revolution redefines physical interaction amongst players and the environment. They can manipulate thousands of objects simultaneously causing massive environmental destruction and interact with everything from rolling clouds of toxic gasses, particle beams weapons and dangerous lava; all elements are integral to the stimulating and highly intensive gameplay.
L.I.M.B.O. Corporation and the United Nations (U.N.) are currently the last two remaining power factions fighting for control of Earth. L.I.M.B.O.’s main purpose is to rebuild the world over the ashes of the imperfect and rusted human race. By injecting nanobots into its test subjects, L.I.M.B.O Corporation has fused man and machine. In doing so, it has successfully brought to life a new race of mechanically and cybernetically-enhanced, superior human forms. The GUARD, an elite military group formed by the United Nations, has been recruited to protect and defend international humanitarian rights. They are the only ones strong enough to stand up to L.I.M.B.O. Corporation, which has refused to recognize the power of the U.N.
“Our recruitment standards are high, but so is our mission,” said a L.I.M.B.O. Corporation representative. “We need the best and strongest recruits to join our cause. CellFactor: Revolution will test their mental and physical aptitude and show us who is worthy to join the new race.”
In CellFactor: Revolution players can master three unique character classes with a mix of Psionic, technological or weapon abilities.
Black Ops – This U.N. Soldier was L.I.M.B.O.’s first genetic alteration experiment using Psionic power; he has a mix of Psionic, unique weapons and vehicular abilities.
Guardian - L.I.M.B.O.’s ultimate mechanical soldier. Guardian wields two weapons, can strike his victims down with quick assault and can tear through anything in his path.
Bishop - Genetically altered by L.I.M.B.O., the Bishop wields hypercharged Psionic powers in lieu of mechanical weapons. All of her abilities rely on physics and manipulating the environment around her as a weapon.
“This is has been an exciting and very rewarding project that pushed boundaries both artistically and technically,” said Julian Castillo, art director, lead designer and co-owner of Immersion Games. “By incorporating the PhysX processor into the game, we’ve introduced a whole new range of gameplay possibilities. We’re eagerly anticipating stories of players favorite kills.”
Jeremy Stieglitz, president of Artificial Studios added, “CellFactor: Revolution is a new kind of competitive first person shooter, which emphasizes massive physical interactivity to take down your opponents. I’m very excited that gamers can now experience this intense action whether it’s at a LAN party, fighting AI bots or designing new environments with the modding tools.”
CellFactor: Revolution caters to players with and without the AGEIA PhysX card. The game automatically detects systems with a PhysX card, offering players the option to progress through a single-player campaign mode that includes three “extreme PhysX” levels. PhysX users can also challenge humans and AI-enemies in four LAN-based multiplayer modes. The multiplayer skirmish game types support up to eight humans and 10 artificial intelligence controlled enemies, either in a PhysX hardware only, or software only mode. Gamers without a PhysX processor can play two levels in skirmish modes or choose to install the processor to enable the full game experience.
“The sheer entertainment value of PhysX in CellFactor: Revolution cannot be overstated,” said Manju Hegde, CEO of AGEIA Technologies, Inc. “We’re honored to work with cutting-edge development teams who have used PhysX technology as the backbone for this fun and original experience, now available for the masses.”
Built on flexible code architecture, CellFactor: Revolution will ship with modding tools. Gamers can use these tools to build new game settings and scenarios.
To download the game for free, please visit any of the following recruiting stations: www.gamespot.com; www.filefront.com brought to you by 1UP; www.fileplanet.com hosted by IGN Entertainment. Visit the newly redesigned www.cellfactorrevolution.com website to download game assets, read developer interviews and more.

Major UK videogames retailers are indicating that the release date of Halo 2 on PC has slipped slightly.
GAME, Virgin Megastore and HMV are all listing the game as a May 25 release. It was expected on May 18, to coincide with the launch of Games for Windows - Live on these shores.
We've contacted Microsoft for clarification and are awaiting a response.
Halo 2 on PC is a Vista-only title, and it features new maps, a map editor allowing you to create your own levels that you can share over Games for Windows - Live and achievements which were revealed in March.
But whether that new stuff's enough to entice to buy a game that came out on the original Xbox in November 2004... And you can only play it you have Vista. Will you be buying it? Let us know in the comments field below.

The Europe pack became available last month, now check out the newest FSX edition being released 'USA&Canada' all seasons.
Since Microsoft's Flightsimulator X (FSX) is not 100% backward compatible with previous FScene versions, Ruud faber - the designer of these replacement texttures - rearranged and added many textures to fit FSX and at the same time left important advantages of FSX intact, thus combining the best of two worlds.
As a bonus the updated 2006 pack for use in FS9 is included.

PLAYXPERT LLC today announced the availability of PLAYXPERT, the next generation community management toolset for gamers via the PLAYXPERT website www.playxpert.com. The PLAYXPERT platform of in-game tools is geared toward any PC or MMO game, but has special initial features for World of Warcraft (WoW) enthusiasts interested in an enhanced community and gaming experience. Future add-on widget releases geared toward other popular games to follow soon.
The initial out-of-the-box features include a universal chat system widget (supporting chat communication with PLAYXPERT users as well as the XFire, Yahoo, AOL, ICQ, and MSN communities), and a wide array of widgets for World of Warcraft players. With PLAYXPERT gamers users can stay in-game and query information about users, professions, items, or anything else about the game world. World of Warcraft widgets include an Armory Widget, Thottbot Widget, WoWWiki Widget, and a Wowhead widget. PLAYXPERT also provides a Google widget with this initial installation so that gamers of any game can find key information online and access it without having to leave the in-game experience.
Future PLAYXPERT releases will also offer gamers PC diagnostic capabilities, additional community features, game stat tracking, clan and team management, and in-game music features.
“Online gaming is intrinsically social, with millions of young adults around the globe interacting constantly. To maintain an interactive social gaming environment , gamers use VOIP applications, websites, clan forums, IM, and other disparate tools. Historically, to use these tools, gamers have been forced to alt-tab out of game and thereby leave the immersive experience that games deliver. We solved this problem today. PLAYXPERT brings together all of the critical pieces that gamers need directly into the game enabling players to reach out to their gaming community via a semi-transparent overlay, directly from the game they play,” said Charles Manning, CEO of PLAYXPERT.
PLAYXPERT utilizes an in-game overlay technology that works with any game using DirectX (OpenGL support is scheduled for release later in the summer). Through an extensible widget architecture, PLAYXPERT brings the key tools that gamers need into the game, giving them more control over their multiplayer gaming community, a richer set of social networking tools and a wider variety of gaming experiences. PLAYXPERT can serve as user’s primary communication platform even outside the game community.
In addition to providing outstanding tools for gamers, PLAYXPERT is a completely customizable platform giving gamers, game developers and the mod’ing community the power to build new in-game widgets without the engineering challenge of developing in-game overlay. PLAYXPERT has published their widget application programming interface (API) so that community-built widgets can be delivered for the PLAYXPERT ecosystem.
