The director of Eidos France has revealed in a TV interview that the company is working on a third title in Warren Spector's critically-acclaimed Deus Ex universe.
According to Melchior the title is in the works at Eidos Montreal, which currently houses around 40 staffers. This Deus Ex revival is apparently the first step in Eidos Montreal's plan to become a major player in the industry.
So then, a Deus Ex title without Warren Spector as far as we can tell. PC Zone just voted the original Deus Ex the best PC game of all time, and Spector had quite a bit to say to the magazine regarding the huge accolade. There's already nothing but massive pressure on Eidos Montreal to create a game worthy of the title - from us! We'll be keeping a close eye on this one.

Christian Svensson, boss of planning and research for Capcom has said that support for Games For Windows has not been decided yet as the firm confirms a PC version of Puzzle Fighter.
"Games For Windows support is not decided yet," said Svensson. "We're still in discussion with Microsoft. They're still finalizing some of the policies that they have surrounding Games For Windows Live. We haven't decided to go that route yet.
"In the nearer term, in the case of Puzzle Fighter, we will be going a different route that hasn't been announced yet. There may be multiple ways that we deliver that content, and multiple types of services that we deliver it across. We're still exploring how that works."

Game designer American McGee has revealed his new title in the works at his studio, Spicy Horse, Grimm, is planned for distribution by the subscription-based GameTap gaming service.
Grimm is reported to be a series of action/adventure episodes "comprised of no fewer than 24 installments" says Shacknews who caught the designer's post before he deleted it. McGee also says that Grimm will be "a spiritual sequel of sorts" to American McGee's Alice, which was a good idea on paper but it never really fulfilled its potential.
"I'm really happy to be once again working on twisted fairy tales," wrote McGee, "and I'm especially excited about having R.J. Berg involved with the project." Grimm should be rolled out in the first half of 2008 and there are more details in an upcoming issue of PC Gamer.
What happened to Oz then?

After launching its long, long, long overdue first-person adventure S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl GSC Gameworld plans to reveal several additions to the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. franchise.
The new S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games will be shown at this year's E3 Media & Business summit in Santa Monica, which takes place on July 11 - 13.
Considering the wording of the press release (only new products in the "S.T.A.L.K.E.R. universe" are promised) we've got an inkling that next series entries might not be the traditional first-person epic we've come to expect.
Maybe a S.T.A.L.K.E.R. third-person action title is on the way? A rubbish mobile phone game?
"We are very happy of the players' positive reaction to S.T.A.L.K.E.R. all over the world. This fills us with confidence the team is on the right track and adds us strength to go for next exciting accomplishments. It will be very soon that we present our new interesting ideas and solutions", said GSC Game World's CEO Sergiy Grygorovych.

PC GRAW fans have had to twiddle thumbs for a few extra months and put up with a delay for the sequel, but GRAW 2 is creeping ever closer to its late June release. In the meantime though, enjoy a new trailer that's deployed from Ubisoft HQ. It runs for around two minutes and is end-to-end in-game action.
In addition to sending out this new footage, the publisher's filled our in-box with a GRAW 2 interview where Bo Andersson, CEO of the PC sequel's developer GRIN, answers questions put forward by the GRAW community. The interview covers all the basics and is worth reading as a refresher or if you're a GRAW 2 virgin. Over to Bo...
I heard GRAW2 X360 is already out, what are the differences with the PC version?
Bo Andersson: Two different teams are working on the games. The entire PC version is being developed by GRIN, with the objective to create the tactical shooter reference on the platform. In terms of game design, technology and controls, the games go in different directions, but share the Ghost Recon background (high-tech gear, accuracy...) and the storyline.
Regarding the maps, multiplayer modes and single-player feel, it's totally worth it to play both games, as each gets the most out of its respective platform. Think about reading two books relating to the same events: two different visions of the same scene.
What's the storyline behind GRAW2?
Bo Andersson: The action in GRAW2 takes place shortly after the events in GRAW and revolves around the US border. Following the events in Mexico City, the Ghosts leave the country after saving the US and Mexican presidents. Soon after, while they are training in Fort Bliss in Texas, they are called back to Mexico.
The remaining Mexican rebels have gathered their forces alongside the US border. Ciudad Juarez, which is one of the key strongholds of the rebels, is separated from El Paso Texas only by the newly constructed wall on the US / Mexican border. Mexican rebels threaten to strike on US soil if the Americans interfere again on what they qualify as an internal conflict.
I spend most of my playing time on PC on multiplayer games, what does GRAW2 offer?
Bo Andersson: We tried to create with GRAW2 on PC an extensive multiplayer experience, with a huge variety of maps and modes.
First of all, the Recon versus Assault mode is totally exclusive. The high tech Ghost team is fighting against heavily armed Mexican rebels. In this mode, the Ghosts need to clear the anti-air defence of the zone in order to launch air strikes. Thus the Rebels try to take the Ghosts down. This mode demonstrates the essence of the Ghost Recon games: stealth and technology, against brute force and firepower.
Moreover, GRAW2 includes the classic Ghost Recon MP modes, like the cooperative campaign (up to 4 players can play the single player campaign together) and the Original Ghost Recon coop mode: short missions with a single objective in cooperation with up to 12 players.
Finally, we wanted the PC players to find their favourite modes in the game: Death Match, Siege, Team Deathmatch and Hamburger Hill. This makes a comprehensive package, with 9 multiplayer maps to play on.
Will the game have dedicated servers?
Bo Andersson: Yes, the game will have dedicated servers at release. We're currently testing them with the Closed Beta, and have European and US servers.
Is there a standalone dedicated server application to create my own server?
Bo Andersson: Yes, there is. You can install it on any PC (no need to have the CD in the drive, no powerful GPU needed). It includes admin tools and remote control.
Will there be a multiplayer demo?
Bo Andersson: Yes, this will be detailed in a separate announcement!
Will there be an anti-cheat system?
Bo Andersson: Yes, this is a GRIN developed tool.
Will the game allow in game voice communication?
Bo Andersson: Yes, through Teamspeak services.
Will the game have online leaderboards?
Bo Andersson: Yes, we will have ladders, including clan ladders, using Gamespy services.
I HATE checkpoints, will there be again automatic savepoints?
Bo Andersson: Yes, there will. But you'll also be able to save anywhere, as long as you're not in a fight.

Bethesda is teasing Fallout fans champing at the bit for the developer's RPG Fallout 3 with a new piece of concept art that shows more city destruction.
The countdown to the first trailer from the sequel now stands at 20 days. Who knows what we'll be shown? But whatever it is, let's hope it thrills, entertains and impresses. Otherwise we'll gouge out our eyeballs and feed them to a gerbil
Bethesda recently revealed it's secured the vocal talents of Liam Neeson for the game's lead character, and has said previously of Fallout 3 that "Some people will like it, some people will hate it... not everybody is going to agree with the game we're making".

Sony Online Entertainment has now confirmed it's acquired Vanguard: Saga of Heroes developer Sigil Games after it was recently revealed that the two were in talks regarding the future of the MMORPG.
Next-Gen.biz reports that under half the current employees at Sigil are being laid off as a result - these are more staffers not directly part of the Vanguard team.
The majority of the remaining Sigil staff will continue to work on Vanguard, but SOE has taken five of the staff to work on a prototype for a new MMOG. The work's been described as an exploratory effort by the company and may not be realised as a full and final product.
Brad McQuaid, Sigil's CEO, is taking on a consultant role at Sony Online Entertainment and will act as Vanguard Creative Advisor.
In terms of the future of Vanguard, SOE president John Smedley said "SOE is dedicated to making sure that Vanguard is well taken care of and that we provide the same level of service we do for our other titles."
He continued in a statement appearing in Station.com forums, "In the near future we will come out with a publishing plan that will largely be driven by the strong player community that Vanguard has already built up.
"We plan on supporting Vanguard for many years to come, and you can expect many content updates as part of your subscription. Down the line we will of course be coming out with new expansion packs, but right now the focus is on making sure Vanguard is running the way it should be."

The first three screenshots from a new game in development at Croteam are here to gawp up.
Currently, the game's wrapped up in a considerable amount of ye old mystery but we do know that it's a military tactical shooter being built using the Serious Sam developer's new Serious Engine 3.
It's been picked up by Gamecock Media Group, which will publish it in 2009 on PC and console.
Gamecock big cheese Mike Wilson has said we'll find the game's premise and gameplay intriguing, describing it as "pretty far out" to IGN.
"You know that the one thing Croteam is the best at - better than most every other developer in the world - is making games that are frantic and, most importantly, fun. This title is definitely both of those things", he added.

Source: An eagle-eyed GameSpot News reader. (Keep the tips coming, kids!)
The official story: So it's no secret that this weekend, Blizzard Entertainment will reveal a new game. Last month, the developer-publisher took a break from counting its massive World of Warcraft revenue to reveal it would be making a major announcement at the forthcoming Blizzard World Wide Invitational (WWI) event in Seoul, South Korea.
Given the massive popularity of Starcraft in Korea, the announcement's venue led many to believe that the unnamed game would be a sequel to the real-time strategy title. Others felt that, given the fact Blizzard is hiring developers for a next-generation massively multiplayer online project, the new game might actually be an MMOG based on Starcraft, along the lines of a major game site's 2006 prank announcement of World of Starcraft. (Ahem.)
On Monday, the Irvine, California-based developer-publisher began a teaser countdown on its Web site, Blizzard.com, showcasing its biggest games from the past 13 years. A timeline on the bottom of the site begins with the company's 1994 debut Warcraft: Orcs & Humans, and ends with a gigantic question mark, which sources close to the Blizzard told GameSpot would be a "massive surprise."
However, said surprise's impact looks set to be diminished somewhat. That's because a countdown identical to the one running on Blizzard.com is also running on Starcraft2.com. The page also bears the imprimatur of Blizzard Entertainment, and is registered to the company, according to a Network Solutions WHOIS search.
What we heard: Blizzard had not returned requests for comment as of press time, which is not entirely surprising, given that much of its PR department is currently badgering flight attendants for cocktails in transit to Korea. However, a search of other potential game titlesdoesn't turn up any more sites officially registered to Blizzard. Diablo3.com and Worldofstarcraft.com are fan pages, and Starcraftmmo.com and Warcraft4.com are both owned by cybersquatters.
Bogus or not bogus?: Blizzard has been characteristically tight-lipped about its forthcoming announcement, expected Saturday. However, it is looking more and more likely that it will be Starcraft-related.

NCSoft Europe deirector of development Thomas Bidaux likened Blizzard's all-conquering MMORPG World of Warcraft (WoW) to a tyrannosaurus rex at Swedish expo Nordic Game today, telling developers of online games to pick fights in other "ecosystems" and pointing to the continuing success of space-based MMO EVE Online as a perfect example of how to win in the genre.
He described WoW as the "ultimate MMORPG and the ultimate dinosaur. It's very big, very expensive and everything you can imagine in terms of big and bulky... If you want to beat the biggest predator around there aren't many solutions. You have to be bigger. I believe this to be extremely difficult. Going after that monster... I don't think that can be done. When you're looking at online games you have to find another angle to be successful.
"There's a hubris issue with MMORPGs: most of them want to be the bigger game and most of them fail... If you want to be successful you have to survive. And if you're a dinosaur then you have to fine the right ecosystem. You have to find your own market, your own niche: you have to find your consumers."
Bidaux used Icelandic developer and publisher CCP's ever-growing space-based MMORPG EVE Online as a perfect example of a company that's picked an ecosystem away from the traditional swords and sorcery MMO and flourished.
"Is there anyone from CCP in the audience?" he asked, with several hands being raised from the packed room. "I have only good stuff to say about you... I have a lot, a lot of respect for CCP and the success it's achieved.
"The growth rate of EVE Online in terms of subscriber numbers is not comparable to any other MMORPG. It keeps growing. It's ever-growing. It's a very good business... They have their own ecosystem: they know who they're talking to."
Bidaux advised those developing MMORPGs to look to the Far East for lessons about what is successful in the genre and for clues as to how to break out from the WoW subscription model.
"The markets [in Asia] are extremely different and nothing like you can expect in the West," he said. "Chinese and Korean markets are already at a different step in their evolution. There are lessons to learn from them."
Mistakes in terms of extensive beta periods followed by switching to charging models, failed micro-payment systems – which have now been honed to a 90 per cent profitability rate among MMOs in Korea - and "hordes" of doomed Lineage clones were worth noting, said Bidaux.
He also advised thinking of non-traditional genres for MMO games, such as sports, fighting and cheap-to-make titles such as the side-scrolling Mapple Story and Korean smash Kart Rider as ways around the great successes of the field, such as WoW and Guild Wars.

A new Team Fortress 2 trailer is unveiling the next generation of facial animation technology that Valve has developed for its Source engine.
The trailer, titled "Meet the Heavy", shows a wide range of facial expressions performed by the mini-gun-wielding tank class from the multiplayer FPS. You can view it in our video player top-right.
"We are pleased to announce that the next generation of facial animation technology for Source will be released in Team Fortress 2", Valve has said in an announcement accompanying the trailer.
"By leveraging the rapid pace of advancement in PC graphics, videogames can now match and actually surpass the facial animation used in feature film and broadcast television production. We've released a video of this real-time, in-game, in-engine facial animation in action in support of ATI's launch of the Radeon HD 2000 series. By running entirely on the GPU of the videocard, the facial animation not only looks dramatically better, but frees up the CPU to perform other tasks like physics or AI."
Team Fortress 2 should release with Half-Life 2: Episode Two near the end of the year.

The May issue of a Croatian games mag has an eight-page feature on Croteam's next title, which it says is Serious Sam 3.
The original Serious Sam took the first-person shooter genre back to its roots and shot it in the face with rocket launcher. In an age when everyone was banging on about stealth and strategy, Serious Sam was busy throwing hundreds of enemies in your face. Serious Sam 2 continued the old-skool trend but we preferred the original.
Hidden within the eight-page blow out of what developer Croteam is up to, is word on Serious Sam 3, Serious Engine 3, and Croteam's next project which members of the studio describe as a "military tactical-action shooter".
Nothing's official yet though, but we'll be running round like headless bombermen when it's unveiled.

World of Warcraft dev Blizzard has dropped new hints on its upcoming game announcement, which is widely reported to be a new instalment in the StarCraft franchise.
On its official website a teaser image shows a timeline running up to a big old question mark, set to be filled in at a South Korean event on May 19.
Sources told CVG earlier this month that the announcement will in fact be an online StarCraft game, though we've only got a few days to wait before Blizzard reveals all.
Of course the location of the event - South Korea - also gives off massive hints as to which franchise Blizzard is revisiting, as the country is widely known to be the epicentre of rabid StarCraft fandom.
Keep your eyes on these pages for the full low-down this weekend.
