New version of the PC-Engine emulator for Windows 2000, XP and Vista.
Changelog:
- Video chip (VDC,VCE) processing part was considerably sped up. I think
that processing lightened in some measure of a personal computer
environment so not fast.
- The screen processing of "SUPER GRAFX (Japan)" was improved, and the speed
improved.
- Processing related to the "ARCADE Card (mass buffer memory card of Japan)"
is improved, and interchangeability has been improved. "Laplace no Ma"
came to operate without trouble.
- "ARCADE Card" menu was added to "CD-ROM" menu. If this check is removed,
it can be operated in the state of "ARCADE Card none".
- "Star Mobile" came to operate.
- Operation speed & timing of CPU has been elaborately adjusted. In stage 3
of "Soldier Blade", the screen disorder of one frame (generated by v1.10)
was solved.
- In visual scene of "Ninja Ryuukenden", overlapping the screen was
corrected.
- Additionally, a detailed part has been improved and corrected

Codemasters is showing off more of its swanky upcoming action-RPG Rise of the Argonauts, in development at Liquid Entertainment and due out next year on PC and "major console platforms" - thought to be PS3 and Xbox 360.
You can catch the latest trailer on Eurogamer TV now, while screenshots are ready to be viewed through the reflective inner surface of your shield in our Rise of the Argonauts screenshot gallery.
As the name suggests, RotA puts you into the Kingly shoes of Jason, ruler of Iolchis, on a quest alongside mythological heroes Hercules, Achilles, Atalanta and others, exploring the islands of Aegean and trying to earn the favour of the gods.
Earning a god's favour will grant players powers within their domain, Codies says, but drawing their wrath my cause problems at the worst possible times, possibly even while you're on the Argo-loo.
Expect more on Rise of the Argonauts as Liquid brings it to the boil. Donk.

THQ has told Eurogamer that the next chapter in the Supreme Commander series is scheduled for release in November on Windows-based PCs.
Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance will be a standalone title that's nevertheless compatible with the original, allowing for new strategic options in both.
The new game follows the epic story of the Infinite War, introducing a brand new single-player campaign, a new faction and new multiplayer features.
It also introduces over 100 new units, allowing for fully realised navies, orbital weaponry and advanced counter-intelligence technologies.
"Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance is not only the continuation of the epic story that is unfolding inside the game's universe, it is the continuation of our goal to move the bar for RTS gaming even higher than ever," says Chris Taylor, CEO of Gas Powered Games, who continues at the helm of the series' development.
"Forged Alliance offers over 100 new units, more maps and an entirely new faction... we are stuffing this game with all kinds of new features!"
The original Supreme Commander, released earlier this year, came remarkably close to winning top marks, eventually settling for a grand 9/10 and having to put up with being labelled "a triumphant achievement" and "a love letter to the fans". Bet they were gutted!

The PC version of Lost Planet: Extreme Condition will be backed up by the release of "additional content and DirectX 10 enhancements available for download in the near future", Capcom said yesterday.
Capcom UK didn't have any additional information on what to expect, but said they would get back to us with more details as and when.
As you probably know, Lost Planet has been out on Xbox 360 since January, but its arrival on PC this Friday has been met with a fair degree of interest thanks to its support for Windows Vista and the new regime of graphical trickery installed by DirectX 10 - including the advanced features of Shader model 4.0 and Geometry Shader, for anyone who knows what any of that means.
Whether it will be enough to woo PC gamers with a long train of vanquished shooters behind them after its warm but still slightly frosty reception on Xbox 360 remains to be seen, but those intrigued by its technical bits and bobs can tuck into our Lost Planet demo DirectX 9 and 10 comparison feature to cool their heels while the last days tick down.

The GAME Group is backing Game Domain International's ambitious new PC download venture, as it uses the on-demand service to offer titles via the retailer's website.
In return, GAME will support GDI's A World of My Own virtual networking space, offering retail and marketing services.
Games Domain International claims its technology allows users to play games within minutes of initiating downloads, with the company recently announcing a beta test ahead of the launch later this year.
"As a specialist multi-channel retailer, we are committed to exploring new ways to deliver products to customer using all methods possible," said Alex Croft, MD of GAME.
"We are very interested in the technology and services that GDI has developed, and believe that it could bring real benefits to our customers."
A World of My Own hopes to create a virtual space allowing users to socialise and play games together, with access to multiple blockbuster PC games.
"Our superior technology combined with GAME's excellent retail expertise is a major advance for the games industry," offered Roger Walkden, CEO of GDI.
"This partnership comes at a very important time for both GDI and the games industry as it evolves."

"With the secured additional funding Funcom is in an even better position to make the launch of the game a success.

In case anyone thought generally lower frame rates and appalling openGL support (through a DirectX wrapper) weren't enough reason to avoid Windows Vista gaming at all costs, news emerges that 2 of the new crop of 'vista only' games have been hacked to run on XP just fine.
Microsoft trying to force people to upgrade when they in no way need to? Shocking
The 2 games in question are Halo 2 and Shadowrun, both DX9 games that Microsoft has simply chosen to not allow run on XP.
According to next-gen.biz, Hacking/Cracking group 'warez' has beaten falling leaf systems, who previously called Microsoft out for these tactics, to the punch with allowing users running XP to run these games.
The multiplayer 'live' network remains Vista only at this point however.
It would be trivial for Microsoft to have these games running perfectly if they wanted them to do so and I for one strongly disagree with Microsoft's tactics of trying to force users to upgrade by not bringing DX10 to XP as well as just blocking some DX9 games from running.

Turbine has offered first details on the next big content update for Lord of the Rings Online, including the news that a new gameplay type is to be introduced in Book 10.
Prising details from the mouth of executive producer Jeffrey Steefel recently in an interview, we were told, "...Amarthiel, who is this new character that we've introduced who is in search of a powerful ring - that's a big part of Book 10. There's not going to be a new region in Book 10 but the whole city of Annúminas will be opened up, and a lot more things will be happening there.
"And then there's some new type of gameplay that players haven't been able to do yet that they'll be able to do in Book 10."
Sadly, Steefel wouldn't elaborate further, leaving us scratching heads and wondering what the new type of gameplay could be. Nor would he commit to a release date for Book 10 - "I don't want to get too specific because whatever date I pick someone will hold me to it for the rest of my life."
However, he did promise that LotRO players "should expect to see multiple updates in a year, separate from expansion packs - just more content for their subscription."
We'll have our full interview with Jeffrey Steefel up tomorrow.

Telltale Games' Kevin Bruner admits that the schedule for Sam & Max episodes was "unrelenting", but says he wouldn't have it any other way.
Telltale recently confirmed that it plans to "air" a second season of Sam & Max, and co-founder and chief technology officer Bruner told our sister site GamesIndustry.biz that the developer is "very committed" to the episodic format.
"Once you get over the production challenges of making a game a month then it's a really attractive model," Bruner said in an interview published today.
"I've made a lot of traditional games and I much prefer to work this way than spending two years making one game and when it comes out, if you've screwed something up then you don't get a chance to fix it."
A lot of the challenges Telltale faces are unique to the burgeoning episodic format, of which it's seen as something of a pioneer. Bruner mentions that because of tight scheduling, the fourth Sam & Max episode was the first opportunity for Telltale to "course-correct" and respond to feedback in design terms.
Another challenge was safeguarding the series' integrity by pricing it competitively - the difficulty being what to compare itself to in pricing terms. "We believe that games are too expensive right now so we sell each episode at USD 9 each or you can buy the whole season, which is the equivalent of a retail product, for USD 35," Bruner explains. "We think that our games are priced correctly but a lot of episodic games and games in general are priced too highly."

Sierra Entertainment is planning to give away a piece of the Berlin Wall with each Collector's Edition copy of World in Conflict sold for PC once the game's released in September.
The historic lump is included in the Collector's Edition of Massive Entertainment's promising strategy title along with a DVD from The History Channel about the Berlin Wall called "Modern Marvels", behind-the-scenes game development videos and special packaging, probably made out of Stalin's hair.
"The World in Conflict Collector's Edition offers gamers the chance to grab a piece of history - an authentic piece of the Berlin Wall, a monument that once divided the Cold War superpowers right through the heart of Europe," Sierra's Al Simone explained.
"In World in Conflict, the Berlin Wall isn't dismantled in the name of global peace; it is obliterated by the collateral damage of the opening salvos of World War III." It's hard to understand why the Daily Mail refuses to take us seriously.
Anyway, Sierra says that the Collector's Edition "will be available at retail stores worldwide this September for the PC".

Game Informer has reported that Spore has been delayed past fiscal 08 into fiscal 09, leading to speculation that a few consoles versions might be in the offering due to extra time given to the game.
It wasn't long ago that we reported that EA expected Spore to slip and miss its fiscal 2008 calendar year, which ends in March 2008. News is now emerging that the game looks certain to miss this period and fall further into the company's next financial year.
No official release date has ever been set for the game but with more and more stories cropping up about a release moving further and further away, it doesn't look like we'll get our hands on the game anytime soon. Hopefully E3 will shed some light on the situation.

NCsoft has revealed more superhero content for City of Heroes and City of Villains.
It comes in the spandex-clad form of Issue 10, which will begin with a server-wide event stretching right across Paragon City and the Rogue Isles. Those evil aliens the Rikti want to invade the Earth again, and this time they won't take no for an answer. No sir, no way.
The aftermath of this gigantic punch-up will leave players between levels 35 and 50 with a new area to explore, one which has been handed over by the government for the Vanguard to control.
Here in this Rikti Warzone you'll find lots of new quests to try to beat, and even a new Task Force challenge for six to eight of you, either as Heroes or Villains - providing you're all over level 45. You'll even be able to fight your way into Rikti mothership, providing you can demolish the surrounding pylons. Which isn't as easy as it sounds, super readers.
Those of you with an Inventive turn can use the new crafting system to create special costume pieces using recipes dropped in the new zone, or rework salvage into Vanguard "Heavies" to use as powerful pets.
City of Heroes and City of Villains form a superhero-themed MMO world from Cryptic Studios. It gained wide critical acclaim when it launched in 2005, and has undergone many successful transformations since.
What's more, Eurogamer is still giving away free trial keys for the game. So if you've never given it a try, clearly now is the time.

EA has told the world it's working on a new SimCity game for PC. Although it isn't quite what you're expecting.
You see, Maxis - which created the other games in the series - won't be developing it. Instead Tilted Mill - responsible for Immortal Cities: Children of the Nile (2005) - will be doing the honours.
The new game will also attempt to add a whole new layer of strategy into the mix, based around the idea of social and cultural behaviour.
Dubbed Societies, the new city-builder will add a new feature-set allowing you to combine buildings to produce or consume "social energies". And it's how you handle your levels of industry, wealth, obedience, knowledge, devotion and creativity that will define your urban masterpiece.
Put your hippy hat on and create an eco-friendly and love-filled city full of creative, spiritual and knowledgeable people. Or pop your headmasters outfit on (we know you have one) to create a dictatorial state built around being powerful, obedient and fearful. It's completely up to you.
Societies also has more familiar aspects. There's more than 350 buildings to construct, each with the flexibility to combine, connect or be re-arranged with others; including a weird and wonderful world of structures like gingerbread houses and chocolate factories. Like always, you'll unlock new bits and pieces as you go along and achieve various milestones.
SimCity Societies is due for release on PC in November.

While some of you may be holding out for a 1GB Radeon HD 2900 XT, those looking to spend a little less can get a bit of instant gratification. ATI has just announced that the Radeon 2400 HD and 2600 HD are now shipping to board customers, meaning that a few more DirectX 10 graphics cards will be hitting store shelves in the not too distant future. Both cards will also include the company's Unified Video Decoder (UVD), are based around a 65-nanometer chip, and will support HDMI and HDCP. Time to start scouring the neighborhood couches for spare change, eh?

It seems you can't scratch your arse without another Crysis trailer hopping onto the internet, and a latest one we've tripped over takes us on a brief tour of what apparently is the alien mothership, with zero-G stuff occurring. It's very dark in the mothership - we're reminded of Alien/Aliens.
Anyway, the trailer's up on YouTube. It's possible you've seen it before, before you start ya moaning.
Crytek boss Cevat Yerli has promised that confrontation with Crysis' alien menace will result in major shocks and scares. "...the first time you see them you'll shit your pants!" he exclaimed, adding, "Imagine the last good horror game you played. This is going to be like that, but every time you'll play it'll be different".

GSC is currently working on what it calls a "big update" for S.T.A.L.K.E.R., the developer has informed CVG.
In an interview which we'll be publishing shortly, Anton Bolshakov, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. project lead, explained, "We're preparing a big update with a new game mode - Freeplay, with no story tasks, including only the A-life driven ones, where the goal is to gain ranks, climb up in rankings, so as to become the best S.T.A.L.K.E.R. in the Zone."
When we're to expect to update wasn't revealed, but speaking about the future of the game Bolshakov did mention too that, now the multiplayer SDK for the game has been released, the developer's working on getting the single-player SDK out the door. So take note, mod creators.
GSC of course recently let slip that it's to make some S.T.A.L.K.E.R.-related announcements at this year's E3. But it's keeping lips firmly sealed on what's to be unveiled.
Bolshakov would only say that "We will be happy to share all the interesting details during the E3 in July."
