Do you remember the Heavy Weapons Guy video that Valve did to promote Team Fortress 2? Of course you do, because it was ace. Well, they're doing another one.
The new one will focus on the Soldier, another of TF2's classes, and will be released during the Games Convention later this week, appearing on Steam around the same time.
As you know, because you read the first impressions thing I spent ages on, there are nine classes, and the Soldier is a powerful attacking class who gives rocket-jumping Quake fans a way into Valve's team-based multiplayer FPS.
And even if you're not interested in playing the game (sulk), you'll probably get a kick out of the video, because the last one was funny and they've had enough time to think up some new jokes for this one. Check out the Heavy Weapons Guy video on Eurogamer TV for a reminder of what's in store.
Team Fortress 2 is due out as part of Valve's Orange Box package - along with Portal and Half-Life 2: Episode Two - on 12th October for PC and hopefully at the same time for PS3 and 360.

Eurogamer.net has been given an exclusive look at the multiplayer options in forthcoming PC shooter Crysis - with Crytek boss Cevat Yerli confirming that there are now just two modes to choose from.
The first of these is Instant Action, otherwise recognisable as Deathmatch. But according to Yerli, "Unleashing the nano suit into the Deathmatch experience reimagines the experience. It becomes completely different."
The second mode is Power Struggle, which involves a lot more strategy. Your mission is to destroy the enemy HQ, capturing bunkers and alien crash sites along the way to earn "prestige points". These are used to purchase guns, ammo and other useful items.
But what happened to the Team Deathmatch and Capture the Flag modes which, as Yerli told us last year, were also set to appear in the game?
Well, Yerli now explains, Crytek did start work on Team Deathmatch, or Team Action as it would have been known - but found the other modes were more popular with players.
"Team action mode was a bit more of a tactical mode... The closest game to it was Counter-Strike," he said.
"We had to drop it because we didn't feel that people were favouring Team Action. The fact it was similar to Counter-Strike was another reason not to have it, but not the number one reason - internal tests showed that people gravitated either to Instant Action or Power Struggle.
"For us it was a matter of focus and saying, 'Let's make sure power struggle is really big' and focusing on that. We balanced the hell out of it to make sure everything's tuned and tweaked, so we're sure we have something strong in multiplayer."

A Spectral Tiger from the World of Warcraft: Trading Card Game recently sold on eBay for $2000. If we'd have known that the Spectral Tiger that WoW Insider gave away last month would sell for $2000, we would have said. "Contest be damned! We're going to Vegas baby!" The reason the card is so special is because it also gives you a rare mount inside of WoW once you input a code.
Another reason the card sold for so much is that the card set it comes form, Fires of Outland, won't even be out until August 22nd. Beyond that, it's still apparently a rare card. As WoW Insider points out, $2000 is 11 years of game time -- and yes, that's the way they think about these things. Of course, like all things WoW, people go nuts and spend all this money and time on something to only have to be made completely uncool and pointless by something else a month later. But, you know, you're still World of Warcraft cool for a whole month.

It would be an understatement to suggest interest in BioShock is hitting critical mass. We've personally lost a few writers on staff who took advantage of the Toys R Us deal earlier this week to the city of Rapture. Furthermore, we'd have lost our own editor Mr. Grant if his Xbox 360 hadn't gone belly-up ... he's seething. The reviews for BioShock are flowing in and they've been overwhelmingly positive. It's going to be an early holiday season for Irrational Games 2K Boston. Now the game just needs to sell well.
Game Informer (100/100): "Even if you play games strictly for the difficulty that they bring, BioShock is a title that needs to be played, simply because you will never look at an FPS the same way again. Of the 15 to 20 hours of gameplay that it delivers, there isn't a second wasted. Once you finish the game, there's little chance that you'll take it out before playing it again to see the second ending."
IGN (97/100): "To call this game simply a first-person shooter, a game that successfully fuses gameplay and narrative, is really doing it a disservice. This game is a beacon. It's one of those monumental experiences you'll never forget, and the benchmark against which games for years to come will, and indeed must, be measured."
1UP (100/100): "The sounds of the vending machines, the demented rants of a housewife who has long lost her sanity, the ability to craft your own ammunition, the level design based on some beloved touchstones of horror (medical experimentation, a garden of evil, the performing arts), the optional photography research, the color palette, the scratchy rendition of "Beyond the Sea," the fire and lighting and water effects...everything is in its right place."
And just for something numerically different...
Xbox World 360 Magazine UK (94/100): "Criticisms? There are a few. The non-replenishable nature of Bioshock's many resources mean that poor players are often punished by the game becoming even harder. And the weird way that enemy health doesn't reset after you die means that if you're blessed with the kind of robo-endurance usually required for Boxing Day family get-togethers, you could hypothetically kill a Big Daddy with your wrench, if you had the time."

French publishing outfit GOA will be showing off a playable version of Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning at the Leipzig Games Convention 2007.
Creative director Paul Barnett will also be lifting the veil on two races to be featured in the game, High Elves and Dark Elves.
It will finally give us a chance to go play one of the biggest massively-multiplayer online games in development, experiencing the much touted realm versus realm combat that developer EA Mythic is famous for.
We'll also see the Greenskin (Orc) and Dwarven starting zones for the first time ever, on top of plenty more never before seen bits and pieces.
Warhammer Online is expected to enter closed beta in the coming months, and sign-ups are still on-going on the official European site.

The surprisingly entertaining MMO Dungeon Runners is about to get its first content patch.
It'll be called 'Chunk Number One' and will add player versus player combat and a new high level dungeon to the mix, according to comments made by lead designer Mark Tucker to Kotaku.
Battles against other teams will be done in randomly created and instanced dungeons, spawned by talking to a non-player character on a player versus player server. At the moment these fighting pits will be pretty straightforward, but in future Tucker plans to add special buffs and items to spice it all up.
If you win your dust-ups, you'll earn points. These aren't used for anything yet, but will likely be put to use at a later date.
Ratsputin's Gulag is the boss and name of the new dungeon, which characters between levels 75 and 100 will be able to tackle. And there will be plenty of new quests to complete and collectable items in there to reward you - all integrated with the tongue-in-cheek style evident everywhere else.
You'll also now be able to have up to three characters on one account, be able to link loot items in chat so that everyone can be very jealous of your toys, and enjoy less latency problems and more responsive controls thanks to behind the scenes tweaking.
Dungeon Runners is a free to download MMO from NCsoft that was released back in May. You can play for no cost as long as you like, but a USD 4.99 subscription will grant you access to features that greatly enhance the package.
NCsoft spokesperson Opal Lertutai told Kotaku that the game has around 120,000 active accounts now, and that it's nearly on an even footing financially thanks to the subscribers.
A date is yet to be set for Chunk Number One.

Already mentioned at Gamefest 2007, Microsoft is planning to launch a Games For Windows variant of Xbox Live Arcade. The digital distribution service will naturally be aimed at the gamer who's more likely to be rearranging jewels on the desktop than snarling faces. A trusted source has furnished Joystiq with further details regarding the service, as well as a strange urge to refer to themselves in third person. The information has been confirmed by external sources, but not by Microsoft at the time of writing.
Internally labeled as "Vega" (possibly referring to the star and not the Street Fighter weirdo), the service is expected to launch in early November with 10-20 games. The portfolio of Live-enabled casual titles will match the taxonomy of Xbox Live Arcade and hopes to be bolstered by 2-4 new games every month following launch. Potential users will be funneled to the service from numerous Microsoft outlets, including MSN Games and the official Xbox website. Much like Live Anywhere, Vega contributes to Microsoft's goal of spreading the Live experiencing across multiple linked platforms -- and likewise aims to entice more and more people with Live subscriptions.
Developers, who will be responsible for costs associated with development, localization, rating and certification, will receive 60% of earned revenue, with Microsoft taking the remaining 40%. Game pricing will be similar to that of Xbox Live Arcade and can be set at either $5, $10, $15, $20 or $30. The 150MB size limit is also present, though developers will be allowed to exceed it when providing adequate justification.
The list of launch titles is currently unknown, a fact that will change once Microsoft's marketing machine lights up Vega come this November.

Microsoft released details on a new version of DirectX 10 - DirectX 10.1 - last week and, in the wake of the announcement, reports sprang up that the iteration of the API would render current DirectX 10-supporting graphics cards obsolete.
But the company has now confirmed this isn't the case.
"DX10.1 fully supports DX10 hardware. No hardware support is being removed... It's strictly a superset. It's basically an update to DX10 that extends the hardware functionality slightly", Microsoft's DirectX lead program manager Sam Glassenberg has told Next-Gen.
Glassenberg said that the update is similar to what Microsoft did with DX9. "We did make updates to [DX9] that extended the supported feature set.
"All the hardware is still supported, all the games still run, all the features are still there, we've just simply extended the feature set and the lifetime of the API," he added.
However, Glassenberg conceded "There will be new features [with DX10.1], and those features may be exposed on new hardware, but this is similar to the model that we had with DX9... [except] with DX10.1, we're saying [to developers], 'if you want to support the new features, you have to support all of them [including original DX10 features].'"
Even though DirectX 10.1 will support current DX10 graphics hardware, today's DirectX 10 hardware will not be able to support all of the features of DX10.1, which includes incremental improvements to 3D rendering quality.
But Glassenberg stated, "It's a minor update, so we don't expect any developers to say, 'oh, this game is DX10.1 only.'
"All off the games that are coming out in the next few years will take better and better advantage of current DX10 hardware."
He said Microsoft is simply planning to support upcoming generations of graphics hardware. Glassenberg added that he "has no timeframe" on when this new hardware that supports DX10.1 will be available.
The final version of DirectX 10.1 is expected to ship with Vista SP1.

Codemasters has announced its line-up of titles that will be playable at the Leipzig Games Convention in August.
The publisher will be showcasing Clive Barker's Jericho, Turning Point: Fall of Liberty, new downloadable content for Overlord, and the PS3 version of DiRT.
“Everyone within Codemasters is extremely excited to have both Clive Barker’s Jericho and Turning Point: Fall of Liberty playable at this year’s Games Convention in Leipzig,” said CEO Rod Cousens.
“We have very high hopes for both titles and, as we continue to increase Codemasters growing presence, we recognise the significance of allowing our fans and consumers to get an early taste of what’s to come, and this year’s Games Convention in Germany is the perfect opportunity to do so.”
Jericho and Turning Point: Fall of Liberty are being developed for the Xbox 360, the PlayStation 3, and Games for Windows. Overlord, previously released for Xbox 360 and Windows, will soon offer a split-screen multiplayer mode as a free Xbox Live Marketplace download.
Codemasters will also have a dedicated online area featuring the first look at Book 10: The City of Kings, the second free update for The Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar MMO.

Sony Online Entertainment business development chief David Christensen believes we're all a little bit naïve when it comes to other cultures than our own.
He was speaking following the unveiling of the publisher's new MMO, which takes inspiration from a holy Hindu poem, and aims to promote awareness of the religion to Western audiences.
"Unfortunately I think most people - not just those in the gaming industry - are a bit naïve when it comes to any culture but their own, which is precisely why SOE believes it is of the utmost importance to partner with local talent in every foreign market we enter," David Christensen told Eurogamer. "To be successful in a territory you have to think like the consumers there."
Virgin Comics will be joining SOE on the project, and will be using its Ramayan 3392 AD publication as the basis for the game. This retells the ancient story of the Ramayana in a futuristic science-fiction setting.
The game is being built predominantly for the Indian market, but Christensen believes it will find success around the world and might help teach us a thing or two in the process.
"The game is being developed in India for Indian gamers, but we expect it to be a success worldwide; to anyone that enjoys a rich and colourful storyline," continued Christensen.

Resurgent US publisher Interplay has said it is working on Fallout Online, a game that will play a key role in its future plans.
The comments were made in a money-matters talk by big cheese Harvey Caen, who boasted double the amount of profits over this time last year.
"With that difficult period behind us, we are focused on securing funding for development of a Massively Multiplayer Online Game based on the popular Fallout franchise," said Caen in a statement.
"Along with our strategy of leveraging our existing portfolio of intellectual gaming properties, Fallout Online will play a key role in the future of Interplay."
Nearly all of the increased cash intake by the publisher was made by selling the majority of the Fallout license to Oblivion creator Bethesda earlier in the year.
It isn't yet clear which platforms Caen has in mind for the MMO, or who will be handling development. Interplay was responsible for the original Fallout game made by Black Isle Studios in 1997.

Codemasters Online Gaming has announced a new competition for Fury this afternoon, in an effort to give us all a taster of the competitive gameplay.
Up for grabs are prizes totalling around USD 1 million, from companies like Dell, Logitech, NVidia and GameStop. Specific goody details are expected soon.
To win you will need to top a clan or solo ladder in the upcoming MMOG by battering people from around the world. Players will be separated by rank, too, to ensure newcomers have as much of a chance as veteran testers.
The tournament takes place on three consecutive open beta weekends beginning 14th September, although the first one will be given over to practice time.
If you fancy the sound of it, you'll need to register and download the Fury Challenge client that is available from 28th August. Those of you already testing the game will simply need to patch your version to take part.
Fury is an MMO from Australian developer Auran, which is making a considerable PR splash by doing away with level-grinding and other tedious genre mechanics in favour jumping head-first into player versus player action.
The game will be free to play, but offers you the option of subscribing and becoming an Immortal, which will grant you a number of benefits. Don't shell out and you'll be reduced to Hero status.
More Fury Challenge tournaments are expected throughout the game's life, and will be free for Immortals, although Heroes will have to stump up some in-game gold to take part.

A new study by researchers at Nottingham Trent University, published in the US journal CyberPsychology and Behavior, dispels the myth that online gamers are asocial.
“This study has revealed many aspects of MMORPGs that were not known before," said Nottingham Trent University professor Mark Griffiths. "Previous research has suggested that gamers are socially inactive, but MMORPGs are actually extremely social games, with high percentages of gamers making life-long friends and even partners.”
Looking at nearly 1,000 online gamers from around the world, researchers found that three quarters of gamers make good friends with the people they meet online. Almost half have met in real-life situations, and one in ten went on to develop physical relationships.
According to the study, entitled "Social Interactions in Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Gamers," gamers played an average of 22.85 hours per week. The most popular MMORPG in the study was World of Warcraft.
The study also determined that more than 30 per cent of gamers found themselves attracted to another player, and that 40 per cent chose to discuss sensitive issues with online friends rather than real-life friends.
“As well as making good friends online, 81 per cent of gamers play with real-life friends and family, suggesting MMORPGs are by no means an asocial activity, nor are the players socially introverted," said Griffiths.
“The virtual world that these games offer, allow players to express themselves in ways they may not feel comfortable doing in real life because of their appearance, gender, sexuality, age, or other factors. They also offer a place where teamwork, encouragement and fun can all be experienced.”

EA debuted its "Command & Conquer TV: Battlecast" today, and they helped to make up for its unsettling hosts and production values with a fairly important announcement for Tiberium fiends: The first expansion to Command & Conquer 3 will be called Kane's Wrath, and will appear in early 2008.
The campaign will follow Kane's rise back to power after the second Tiberium War, played partially through a "Global Domination" meta-game, described as "Risk on steroids." New units, upgrades and powers for each of the factions are also included. The expansion will launch simultaneously on Xbox 360 and PC, but console owners will also be receiving a new radial interface in the expansion (as seen above).

Changelog:
- "The processing that takes timing when CD sound source is played (mounted
from v1.19)" was sped up. And, the stability has been improved. In a
personal computer environment not fast, I think that it was almost lost
that the game stops when CD-ROM is accessed.
- The operation of "PC Engine Mouse" was modeled on a real machine. And, the
processing was sped up, too. In addition, the amount of the movement were
elaborately adjusted, and the cursor was made easy to operate.
- In "Doukyuusei", the problem that the screen fell into disorder
occasionally was solved. *The screen falls into disorder uncommonly with a
real machine when playing with the mouse.

was solved.
- Operation speed & timing of CPU has been elaborately adjusted.

For those of you still enamored by the Optimus Prime PC case mod, here's yet another transformation to keep you in awe. A self-proclaimed Batman fanatic happened upon an RC iteration of the Tumbler Batmobile, and as any true nerd would do, he wondered if a PC could be stuffed within. Sure enough, with a healthy amount of dedicated modding, the RC Tumbler was finally equipped with an AMD Sempron 2800+ CPU, a 40GB hard drive, and a basic DVD drive, but considering the main purpose is to race around the web and look sexy, we'd say it's potent enough for that. Click on through for a few more shots that even Bruce Wayne would approve of.

Splash Damage's Paul Wedgwood says there's no "definitive" plan as to whether we'll see a third beta of Enemy Territory: Quake Wars prior to its launch on 28th September - and a lot of it comes down to how much feedback you give them.
"I don't know," he told us when we asked during QuakeCon. "There's no definitive plans on what will happen or what won't."
"Ultimately betas depend on whether we can make the fixes that we need to in patches as opposed to full releases. With Beta 2, so much had changed that we couldn't really deal with it in a single patch, so that's what generated Beta 2."
Naturally that's not the only thing we asked Wedgwood about - we also got his views on the new levels shown at QuakeCon, the way the bot code has developed, and a detailed overview of the mission system and how it encourages sensible team-play at varying levels of skill.

Codemasters Online Gaming will be releasing its second free content pack for Lord of the Rings Online on 21st August.
It's called Book 10: The City of the Kings, and will add a new storyline for you and your friends to become involved with. It revolves around nasty woman Amarthiel who has pinched a crystal ball from the goodies, and is using it to find her long lost ring of power. It will be up to you and your kind hearted fellows to put an end to her tyranny.
This means there will be bags of new quests to get stuck into - over 100 if you're asking - as well as lots of new monsters to stab, dungeons to explore, and items to squabble over.
You'll be able to take on the role of a horrible Troll or powerful Ranger in monster play, too, getting involved in the Ettenmoor battles for good or evil by spending your hard earned Destiny Points.
But if that sounds a bit much like hard work, then you can always enjoy the world from a different perspective - a farmyard animal's view. Yes, you can roam around the world as a chicken, with more tasty beasts to be added at a later date. Just think, you'll soon be able to say, "I spent my weekend walking around a virtual world as a chicken, what did you do?"
Developer Turbine is also introducing a new reputation system to represent your standing with various factions in the game. Help them and they'll like you, kill their chickens and they won't. Bartering has been added, too, so you'll now be able to trade trophies earned in battle for rewards like new armour or mounts.
And as if all that wasn't enough, you'll also get a polished up user interface to play around with. It's now customisable, you see, so you'll be able to make it look pretty and change the various menu sizes with new options sliders.
