New update of the PC-Engine emulator for Windows 2000, XP and Vista.
Changelog:
- The screen display processing part was sped up. I think that processing lightened in some measure of a personal computer environment so not fast.
- Additionally, a detailed part has been improved and corrected.

GameTap announced today that they'll publish Grimm by American McGee. The 24 episode action/adventure game was re-confirmed after McGee sorta let the grandma out of the wolf last week. Expect the game to follow in McGee's Tim Burton-style treatment of Alice. The game is being developed by McGee's Shanghai studio Spicy Horse and will start on GameTap next year.
Hopefully GameTap will keep McGee on track in terms of content and release schedule. So far, we can't complain about GameTap, which has brought us the only true episodic gaming experience we've seen so far with Sam & Max. An episode a month with a solid release schedule -- exactly what this whole episodic gaming concept was supposed to be about (and yes, we're looking at you Valve -- per usual). Oh, also, we know Pinnochio isn't a Grimm tale, but that's the art we've got for the game, go take it up with McGee. What we really want to know about is the "words as weapons" mechanic in the game. Action/adventure meets Typing of the Dead -- we're so there!

Codemasters Online Gaming has revealed it's working on the official Dirty Dancing game for PC.
It'll be some sort of casual puzzle action title from developer Say Design, and will apparently be in our stockings this Christmas. You see, this year marks the 20th anniversary of the iconic film, so everyone, particularly teary-eyed girls, are going bananas for it.
Unfortunately there's little more information than that, although film studio Lionsgate is confident the strong licence will make for an instant hit.
"Dirty Dancing delivers compelling subject matter that has all the tools to become an instant hit online," said Anne Parducci, executive vice president of marketing at Lionsgate. "The movie appeals to audiences of all ages and continues to win over new fans through increased exposure from the highly successful DVDs and multiple airings on cable.
"For two decades, girls and women have identified with Baby, and through this wonderful game from Codemasters, they will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in her world like never before."
Dirty Dancing first appeared back in 1987 and tells the story of a young lady who meets an experienced dance instructor and triggers an emotional roller coaster. It stars Jennifer Grey and Lord Patrick of Swayze and has sold more than 10 million DVDs to date.
Watch out for more information in the coming weeks. Or don't, and play something else instead. Like the spoons. Anything.

Similar to his previous Spacecute prototype challenge, Danc of Lost Garden has issued another call to programmers looking to flex their muscles. Using the provided tile set, designers are tasked to create a small-scale casual god game. Think Populus, but ... cute. Programmers send in their prototypes for discussion and critique, all in the spirit of making a better indie game.
If you've got the urge to get some game making done, most of the design document is at Lost Garden, you simply have to fill in the blanks.

NCsoft's MMO Dungeon Runners has opened its doors to players around the world today, and is free to download and play.
However, if you want to explore more than the trial content you'll have to become a "member" and shell out USD 4.99 a month to do so. But if you do, you'll enjoy the full range of content, as well as log-in queue priority and access to the best items, weapons, and armour.
Dungeon Runners is based around instanced, er, dungeons, which you'll be able to explore on your own or in a party - the latter being the preferred choice. You get to play as either a Fighter, Mage, or Ranger, and advance your powers through a big list of skills that ensure no two people are the same.
It doesn't have the same size or scope as something like Lord of the Rings Online or World of Warcraft, but it's also not supposed to. It's based around fast-paced instanced fun with friends; good old dungeon-plundering for shiny loot.
"Dungeon Runners is a lot of fun and doesn’t take itself too seriously. It will take players into an action packed-adventure, where they blaze through a maze of dungeons, face fierce monsters and formidable opponents to become a hero," said Stephen Nichols, producer and lead programmer for Dungeon Runners.
"Regardless of if a player pays to be a member or plays for free, Dungeon Runners will deliver more than 200 hours of game play and a continually growing number of missions and quests. It's also designed to appeal to gamers who have limited time to give to a game, although it will also have the content to keep players adventuring for hours at a time."
Head over to the Dungeon Runner's website to download the client and get started.

It seems their was nudity in the Halo 2 PC version that slipped past everyone!
May 25, 2007 (Computerworld) -- Nudity in the videogame "Halo 2" for Windows Vista has pushed back the long-awaited title's official release to the end of the month, Microsoft said Friday.
Microsoft has already released an optional patch to remove the problematic content.
Originally scheduled to ship on Tuesday, May 22, Halo 2 has been delayed to the 31st so retailers can slap stickers on already-in-hand copies. "It has come to our attention that an unfortunate, obscure content error which includes partial nudity was included in our initial production of Halo 2 for Windows Vista," a company spokesman said.
"As such, we have updated the initial game packaging at retailers with a label, so customers are aware before purchasing the game. This packaging will only be labeled for the initial run of games; subsequent shipments will not include the content."
From messages posted on Microsoft's own Halo 2 support forums, however, copies of the nudity-afflicted game have made it into customers' hands. "Just drove to circuit city and bought a copy," a user identified as akakia said Wednesday on the forum. Best Buy, however, has not yet put Halo 2 on shelves, reported several users on the same thread. A quick check of the two chain's Web sites confirmed that Circuit City has Halo 2 in stock, but that Best Buy reported it as available for pre-order only.
A 2MB update was posted on the Halo 2 site Tuesday. The update, said the Microsoft spokesman, "removes the content error" and thus the nudity. "It's optional," he added. Subsequent production runs of the game will have the nudity removed.
"It was added in jest, and not meant to be in the final build," the spokesman said of the nude code.
The incident is reminiscent of the 2005 brouhaha over Take Two's "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas" videogame and a "mod," or modification dubbed "Hot Coffee" that unlocked graphic sex scenes buried in the game's code. That disclosure led to an industry rating board changing the game's rating from "M" (Mature 17+) to "AO" (Adults Only 18+) and lawmakers, including Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.), calling for an investigation.
Halo 2 currently carries an M rating.

New version of the Sega Model 2 emulator for PC.
What's new:
This release fixes several playability bugs in Daytona USA (analog controls wraparound and windows disappearing when going to fullscreen) and adds a new playable game: Motor Raid. It also contains a modified color lookup table processing that improves the colors in the original model 2 games (daytona, vcop and dtank). The emulator now includes a nice icon and background image, thanks to jordigahan and Peabo for them.

After a long wait, Halo 2 is coming to Windows Vista-equipped PCs June 8 in Europe; the North American version, which was originally pushed back to May 22 but obviously missed that mark, will arrive May 31. The game will retail for £34.99 / $49.99, respectively.
When reached for comment, a spokesperson for Microsoft said, "Halo 2 for Windows Vista did not release to retailers on May 22, as previously announced and will now ship from manufacturers on May 31. Shadowrun will be the first game to debut the highly anticipated Games for Windows – LIVE system on May 29. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused our customers."
PC gamers have been waiting over two and a half years for Halo 2 to break free from its console chains.

press release:
Matrix Games (www.matrixgames.com) and Strategic Studies Group (www.ssg.com.au) are proud to announce a new tournament for their award winning WWII turn-based strategy game, Battlefront. Entitled the Market Garden Tournament to denote the scenario on which players will be showing off their strategic prowess, the Market Garden Tournament gives Battlefront fans the chance to win a variety of prizes! Registration is now open and all participants must register in SSG’s Run5 Battlefront forums to secure a spot in the event. Act fast, space is limited!
Gregor Whiley, Vice President of Strategic Studies Group, added “Market Garden is an enormously engrossing scenario which will give even the most confident strategists a run for their money. I truly can’t wait to see how players will deal with the tough decisions that will come their way over the course of the tournament.”
David Heath, Director of Operations at Matrix Games, said “Battlefront has kept WWII strategy buffs busy for quite some time now. What better way to reward the game’s fans and top players for their commitment than to give them the perfect venue to show off their skill, and win some cool prizes in the process.”
While the Battlefront system shares a design philosophy with SSG's award-winning Decisive Battles series, it is actually an entirely new system specifically designed for battalion-level combat. This level of play gives the player a chance to experience true issues of command, control, sighting, and supply at a level that emphasizes plenty of tough but enjoyable decisions to make. Players have full control over the off-map movement of their units; players can move units in special off-map areas, getting realistic control over where and when to employ their reinforcements. Opponents will never be entirely sure where and when these units will arrive, increasing the tension and fun.
Get more information on Battlefront from its official Matrix Games webpage. Get more details and the tournament rules from SSG’s forum.

Blizzard Entertainment® today unveiled StarCraft® II, the sequel to its award-winning real-time strategy game StarCraft, at the 2007 Blizzard Worldwide Invitational event in Seoul, South Korea. The announcement took place inside the Olympic Gymnastics Arena, in front of thousands of attendees, who received a presentation that included a StarCraft II cinematic trailer and a gameplay demonstration by the development team.
Designed to be the ultimate competitive real-time strategy game, StarCraft II will feature the return of the Protoss, Terran, and Zerg races, overhauled and re-imagined with Blizzard’s signature approach to game balance. Each race will be further distinguished from the others, with several new units and new gameplay mechanics, as well as new abilities for some of the classic StarCraft units that will be making a reappearance in the game. StarCraft II will also feature a custom 3D-graphics engine with realistic physics and the ability to render several large, highly detailed units and massive armies on-screen simultaneously.
“With StarCraft II, we’ll be able to do everything we wanted to do with the original StarCraft and more,” stated Mike Morhaime, president and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. “We recognize that expectations are high following the long-running popularity of the original game, but we plan to meet those expectations and deliver an engaging, action-packed, competitive experience that StarCraft players and strategy gamers worldwide will enjoy.”
StarCraft II will include a unique single-player campaign, as well as fast-paced online play through an upgraded version of Blizzard’s renowned online gaming service, Battle.net®. In addition, the game will come with a powerful, full-featured map editor that will put the same tools used by Blizzard’s designers into the hands of players.
Blizzard is developing StarCraft II for simultaneous release on the Windows® and Macintosh® PC platforms. Further information about the game, including details on the single-player, multiplayer, and map-editor features, as well as system requirements, pricing, and availability, will be announced in the months ahead. Blizzard has unveiled StarCraft II at a special event in South Korea.
"There's the graphical improvements you'd expect from a game that'll be 10 years in the coming by the time it's released - there's physics now, so stuff will roll down hills and explode properly. But it was the new units and powers that drew bellows of excitement - and I honestly swear to you that a sizeable minority of the crowd behind me were actually grunting. I'm in an Olympic Stadium full of people who would rip my face off for a chance to play this game. And wonderful, screaming girls" said our man on the front line. You can read his full blog here.
Here's the info direct from the release: Designed to be the ultimate competitive RTS, StarCraft II will feature the return of the Protoss, Terran, and Zerg races, overhauled and re-imagined with Blizzard's signature approach to game balance.

"We recognize that expectations are high following the long-running popularity of the original game, but we plan to meet those expectations and deliver an engaging, action-packed, competitive experience that StarCraft players and strategy gamers worldwide will enjoy."

We've seen the trailer, and the silence has finally been broken with the first official details on Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.
An in-depth preview on Infinity Ward's new game, appearing on PCZone.co.uk, reveales Call of Duty 4's storyline revolves around the machinations of Zakhaev, a Russian ultra-nationalist with aims to bring the Soviet Union back into existence and in the style of his idol, Stalin.
Zakhaev initiates civil war in the Mother Land and, aware that other world powers will attempt to intervene, hatches a trap to tie-down US forces in Middle Eastern country.
British intelligence, meanwhile, has been tracking Zakhaev and tries to convince the US of the true reason for the Middle East conflict...
Call of Duty's campaign system, essentially playing through a number of small individual and independent scenarios stacked back to back, has been ditched, instead you have two storylines, one played from viewpoint of an SAS trooper and the other a member of US elite fighting force Force Recon, that interweave, with both plots coming together in a climax on Russian soil.
Infinity Ward president Grant Collier explains that the developer really wants CoD 4 "to play out like an episode of 24", and to this end it's been working with TV scriptwriters "who understand how to get a strong, episodic storyline going".
"We're able to have continuous characters throughout the game while being able to change locations," he continues. "In previous games we changed locations through the various campaigns, but you lost contact with all the characters from that storyline. And besides Price and McGregor, do you really remember any of the characters from Call Of Duty? No. Our goal is for you to really get to know these characters, to have an attachment to them, and at the end of the game, remember them."
So, changes in not just setting for the first-person shooter series but in the formula too. But PC Zone says that Modern Warfare still looks and feels like a Call of Duty game, "but in today's world, complete with blinding pace, terrifying weaponry and state-of-the-art technology."

Half-Life 2 Black Box, which contained Half-Life 2: Episode 2, Portal, and Team Fortress 2, was intended for those who didn't want to shell out for Half-Life 2 and Episode One. Look like they don't have a choice now.
"The Black Box has been cancelled," Doug Lombardi, Valve's director of marketing, said to IGN. "We're going to have one package, The Orange Box, available on the PC (US$49.99) as well as the 360 and PS3 (US$ 59.99). In addition to the three new products -- Portal, Team Fortress 2, and Half-Life: Episode Two -- The Orange Box will also contain the full version of Half-Life 2 and Half-Life 2: Episode One.
"Those who purchase the PC version of The Orange Box will get three separate Steam product codes: One for the three new games, one for HL2, and one for Episode One. This way a PC Orange Box owner can give away their Half-Life 2 or Episode One unused Steam product codes if they don't need a copy of those games. We are excited to deliver the highest value of new gaming content ever offered in one box."

Since its launch in October 2005, Age of Empires III has been a success story for Microsoft Game Studios. Through March, the latest installment in the long-running real-time strategy series has sold nearly 875,000 copies in the US, according to the NPD Group. Its first expansion, Age of Empires III: The WarChiefs, also did fairly well, selling roughly 158,000 copies domestically since it hit retail last October.
Today, Microsoft announced that AOEIII, as fans call it, is expanding again. Due in the fall for XP and Vista PCs, Age of Empires III: The Asian Dynasties will take the series to the Orient, introducing three new civilizations. Though Microsoft isn't revealing exactly which Asian nations will be featured in the game, it did say that it will be set during the period from the late-15th to the late-19th centuries.
The Asian Dynasties will also introduce several new gameplay features, including new methods of winning the game and fostering commerce. It will also sport 15 new wonders based on Asian history, and "remixes" of several Asia-based maps from previous Age of Empires games.
With longtime AOE developer Ensemble Studios hard at work on the forthcoming Halo Wars, development of the expansion is being handled by Big Huge Games

Blizzard's new game announcement is now only 24 hours away, and all eyes are looking to the developer's StarCraft franchise as the one we'll see a venture unveiled for tomorrow afternoon.
US sources told CVG earlier this month that a StarCraft online game will be unveiled at Blizzard's event in South Korean occuring over the weekend; we've only got a few hours left to discover the full truth.
Other internet voices are claiming that a StarCraft RTS sequel will be the subject of tomorrow's announcement, sporting a whole new race and other sci-fi bells and whistles.
Through the internet noise and forum chatter one thing is near certain though - South Korea is the epicentre of the StarCraft's fandom, so to see any other franchise announcement from Blizzard tomorrow would be a big surprise.
