The last downloadable expansion for Fallout 3, dubbed Mothership Zeta, has been given a release date for the Xbox 360 and Windows PC versions. Those on a Microsoft system can expect to find it available for purchase on August 3 for 800 Microsoft points (US $10). No release info was given for the PS3 version.
Mothership Zeta takes players to outer space on an alien abduction. The distress call from the fallen UFO that players could track down in the main Fallout 3 game turns out to be much more in this download as players get beamed aboard an alien spaceship. There, they'll meet new characters, both from the Wasteland and Earth's past, also being held by the aliens. These folks can be teamed up with to scheme up an escape plan, hopefully before the ship aims its weapons at Earth.
New weapons and armor are promised including the Alien Atomizer, Alien Disintegrator, Drone Cannon, Gemini-Era Spacesuit and Samurai Armor.

Plan on getting out of bed when the rooster crows on July 21 because that's the day Alawar Entertainment is going to release Farm Frenzy 3, the all-new sequel to the award-winning series of casual arcade sims. Alawar, a leading publisher of casual games, and Alawar Melesta, the creators of the Farm Frenzy series, are working from sunup until sundown and all through the night to make sure Farm Frenzy 3 exceeds the expectations of fans worldwide.
Farm Frenzy 3 introduces Scarlett, a country girl who's as smart as she is pretty. Scarlett doesn't like how Orson, the president of the Farmer's Union, has been pocketing the dues of farmers and then refusing to help them in their hour of need, so she sets out to win the presidency by helping the farmers get back on their feet the old fashioned way: working hard!
Long-time fans and new players alike will be challenged to sling hay in five countries, beat 90 outrageously fun levels, tend to 15 wacky animals and purchase more upgrades than ears in a field of corn! And as players grow crops, feed animals, collect produce, manufacture goods and improve their infrastructure, they'll be treated to some of the zaniest humor and animation to ever grace a casual game!
You won't need a shed full of tools to win, though; all you'll need is your mouse because Farm Frenzy 3 will be as simple to play as its predecessors. Just don't expect it to be as easy to master!
To be notified the moment Farm Frenzy 3 is available, visit www.alawar.com and register to receive the Alawar Email Newsletter.

Funcom would like to inform you that we will be revealing the first expansion for 'Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures' at the GamesCom show in Cologne, Germany in August. Details on Funcom's presence at the show will be provided later, but we would already now like to invite you to join the fun!
'Age of Conan' has seen huge changes and improvements this past year, and it has gone from challenging times to a situation where the press has stated that this is the "second coming of Conan". While we are continuing our work on improving the game, we feel that it is time for us to finally lift the veil on the very first expansion. And we sure got some nice surprises up our sleeves with this one!
From August 19th to August 22nd – at the GamesCom show – we will be hosting exclusive media-only presentations where game director Craig Morrison will take you through the first ever reveal of the 'Age of Conan' expansion. Here we will present the story, environments, monsters, quests, rewards, and of course the new features that will be included in the expansion. All presentations will be held in the Business Center, in an easily accessible meeting room with comfortable accommodations.
The presentations last roughly 30 minutes and will feature in-game footage/gameplay. Afterwards you will be able to conduct a short interview with Craig Morrison or another representative from Funcom.
Sessions will be filled up quickly, so we encourage you to secure a spot as soon as possible! The sooner you reserve your spot, the better we will be able to accommodate any requests you might have. Should you for instance want a longer interview, it would be great if you requested that as early as possible. If you want to videotape an interview, it is especially important that you reserve a spot early.
Wednesday 19th August – every hour from 09:00 (9am) to – and including - 18:00 (6pm).
Thursday 20th August – every hour from 09:00 (9am) to – and including - 18:00 (6pm).
Friday 21st August – every hour from 10:00 (10am) to – and including - 18:00 (6pm).
Saturday 22nd August – every hour from 10:00 (10am) to – and including - 18:00 (6pm).

Writing on the Command and Conquer Den, community manager Aaron "APOC" Kaufman said that those who play the single-player campaign of Command and Conquer 4 will need to constantly be connected to the internet, in much the same way as players of MMOs. "As of right now, you need to be online all the time to play C&C 4," he explains. "This is primarily due to our 'player progression' feature so everything can be tracked. C&C 4 is not an MMO in the sense of World of Warcraft, but conceptually it has similar principles for being online all the time. While some may be taken aback by this, we've been testing this feature internally with all of our world-wide markets."
OK, indulge us in a bit of conjecture. What strikes us as weird is that, just last week, What They Play editor John Davison said on 1UP's Listen Up that he wouldn't be surprised for games to adopt a streaming model (read: no physical media) by the time C&C 4 is released. It seemed sort of oddly specific at the time, but now we're wondering if there might be more reasons that your computer has to be connected to play. Just saying.

Windows 7 may be Released to Manufacturing, but that doesn't mean it's done. Nope. When you're Microsoft and have many companies to work with, you need to make sure they're ready too, lest you want Vista Launch 2.0.
The two major things left to do before Windows 7 launches are language packs, since Windows can't launch in any country without all countries being localized for. And OEM builds, which allow manufacturers to test Windows 7 against their machines and make sure they've got a working version of Windows ready to ship that works out of the box.
But, if you're one of those English-speaking people that's been using Windows 7 beta and Windows 7 RC without a problem, chances are you can probably use Windows 7 final now and be just fine. So for you, it's pretty much as done as it's gonna get.

One of the most promising MMORPGs in development these days is NCSoft's Aion, a fantasy-based offering built on CryEngine. It makes heavy use of flight as a gameplay mechanic, allowing aerial combat and easy travel around the visually stunning game world. There are four basic classes — Warrior, Priest, Mage, and Scout — each of which have two subclasses. For example, Warriors can be tank-like Templars, or berserker-like Gladiators, while Mages can turn into a scholarly Sorcerer or command the elements as a Spiritmaster. Early previews of Aion almost universally comment on how polished the game seems — this is partly due to the fact that it has been up and running since November in South Korea. "Being stable, scalable, reliable and fuss-free is far from a given in MMOs, but Aion is all those things, and can already stand alongside the genre's usability kings, EVE Online and World of Warcraft. Its expansive, zone-free open-world environments look terrific and run smoothly on a wide variety of systems. It just works." Since the game is already in a relatively complete state, NCSoft has been running closed beta "events," where a portion of the game is opened for testing. MMOGamer has a write-up from the latest such event. Aion is due out in September.

As October 22nd hastily approaches, Microsoft is slowly but surely dropping all sorts of knowledge on to-be Windows 7 buyers. The latest tidbit about the forthcoming OS revolves around upgrades, with a company spokesperson reportedly confirming that users running an activated version of Windows 7 Release Candidate will not have to "reinstall an older version of Windows before using a Windows 7 upgrade disk." Unfortunately, those who choose this path will see all of their files and such ushered into a folder labeled "Windows.old" when the final version of Win7 is installed, essentially putting a damper on what would've been an otherwise awesome experience. Interestingly, the fun doesn't stop there; if you ever need to reinstall the final version of Win7 from scratch using the upgrade copy you purchased, you'll first need to install (and activate) a copy of XP or Vista, which is different that Vista's somewhat more lax upgrade policies.

Quantic Dream has announced that their much-anticipated thriller Heavy Rain is being pushed back to 2010. Co-CEO Guillaume de Fondaumiere said that the game is on-time and on-budget, but also that they don't want it to come out at the same time as many other high-profile games. "Most publishers today realize that it's not ideal to release a new IP or a new genre just before Christmas. It's a very crowded place to be, and certain games need more space to live their life. Everybody at working on the project, both at Quantic and Sony, believe this is the right time." Meanwhile, Take-Two announced that BioShock 2 would be delayed as well, backing off from their October 30th EU release date and saying it will come out during the "first half of calendar 2010."

PopCap is perhaps best known for its Bejewelled and Peggle franchises, but Zuma is also very popular. The developer/publisher has now launched Zuma Web Connect, described as a "social" version of the puzzle game. Residing on PopCap.com, Zuma Web Connect wields the social networking power of Facebook and lets players compete against people on their friends list. This isn't PopCap's first Facebook venture: Bejewelled Blitz is a one minute, "social" version of the best-selling match-three game that also integrates with the site.
"While Bejeweled, Peggle and more recently Plants vs. Zombies get most of the attention, Zuma has quietly been an ongoing hit for us on all sorts of devices and in almost every corner of the world," says John Vechey, PopCap co-founder. "Zuma is enormously popular in Germany and Asia, for example, and is one of the highest-rated iPod games of all time."

Supposedly leaked photos of Eidos' attempt at rebooting the Tomb Raider franchise were leaked on the internet over the weekend.
We'd love to post the fancy spy photos 4playercoop's mole shot, but then we'd have to deal with the legal system, as many websites have already received letters from attorneys asking for their removal.
Though if you felt so inclined, the photos are still out there, and can be found with a quick Google search.
New gameplay information was revealed as well. The game will feature an "open world" environment with a revamped combat system. There were also new enemies shown, which looked like something out of EA's Dead Space.
Remember, though, just because these photos were taken down doesn't necessarily mean they are real or that the series is going in this direction.
I expect we'll hear more news about this project shortly.

In a post on the official Call of Duty forums this past weekend, Treyarch Studios' community manager revealed that the upcoming 1.5 patch for the popular military FPS will include Map Pack 2. No timing was announced for the release of the map pack, but the post did say, "It's in test right now, and is looking great."
Map Pack 2 was previously released as DLC for the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of Call of Duty: World at War, but this is the first time PC gamers are getting a crack at it. The Pack includes four new maps -- a sub pen, a Russian train yard, a jungle bridge, and a zombie swamp map.
We'll be sure to bring you more information as we get it.

If your devout WASDing-and-mousing ways have turned you into a frequent player of Call of Duty: World at War on the PC, you'll be pleased to know that Treyarch hasn't forgotten about you. The oft-downloaded Map Pack 2 that hit Xbox 360 and PS3 last month will be making its way to PCs in World at War's next update, Patch 1.5.
According to Treyarch community manager J.D. (a.k.a. JD_2020 on the Treyarch forums), the patch is "in test right now, and is looking great." For those of you who remained spitefully out of the loop on the map bundle, it includes three standard levels -- Bonsai, Corrosion and Sub Pens -- and a swampy, undead-plagued stage called "Shi No Numa," which we believe is Japanese for "Oh crap, Zombies."

id Software has announced that Tuesday will be update day for Quake Live, although that doesn't mean there will be new content every week.
"In an attempt to allow all of you a greater ability to plan your play schedules - particularly those of you running and playing in external events, ladders, leagues, etc. - we're going to begin updating Quake Live exclusively on Tuesdays," writes moderator "marty" on the Quake Live site.
"This does not mean that every Tuesday we will have an update, just simply that if we do have an update planned, it will occur on a Tuesday.
"We'll try to alert you the week before an update is planned both through the forums and through a Tweet," he chirps. "This does not include any emergency maintenance or patches that may be required, but those are very rare."
Quake Live is a web-based conversion of Quake III Arena, the fast and competitive multiplayer shooter. Adverts support the game so you can play for free, and just about any PC - barring relics from museums - will be able to smoothly run the program.
Quake Live is currently in open beta. That means you can play right now, although id Software hasn't quite finished polishing the package.

Microsoft has announced full details of Office 2010 and its plans for an accompanying suite of online applications, and PC Pro has been given special access to a technical preview. Contributing Editor Simon Jones gives his initial verdict on the new suite, concluding that there's "still a long way to go in terms of fit and finish... but overall Microsoft has made good strides in increasing usability, cohesiveness and collaboration." This is followed by detailed first looks at Word 2010, Excel 2010, Outlook 2010 and PowerPoint 2010, with Outlook certainly looking to be the greatest beneficiary. And finally, a gallery of screenshots shows off all the new interface touches in Office 2010, including Outlook's conversation view, Word's picture editing function and the new cut and paste preview option.

Robert X. Cringely asserts that nothing good will come out of the ongoing war between Microsoft and Google: "The battle between Microsoft and Google entered a new phase last week with the announcement of Google's Chrome Operating System — a direct attack on Microsoft Windows. This is all heady stuff and good for lots of press, but in the end none of this is likely to make a real difference for either company or, indeed, for consumers. It's just noise — a form of mutually assured destruction intended to keep each company in check
