There are only two things that zombies love: delicious, moist brains, and the lure of pop music. If wasn't proof enough, Sega's most recent DLC addition for blood-soaked keyboard primer Typing of the Dead: Overkillcertainly cements the idea.
The "Dancing With The Dead" lexicon transforms the phrases that players are tasked with typing into popular song lyrics. Sega is being coy on which songs it has lifted words from, but the publisher's announcement this morning includes references to groups like House of Pain, Will Smith, The Clash and probably a few others that we're not picking up on.
As with earlier DLC releases for Typing of the Dead: Overkill, the Dancing With The Dead lexicon bears a $3 price tag. It's currently available on Steam to satisfy all of your oddly mundane fantasies of battling walking corpses armed only with keen office skills.

With its teaser trailer, This War of Mine presents a world ensnared in combat, but focuses its lens on the civilians caught in the middle of the brutal conflict. "In war, not everyone is a soldier," the ominous video notes, featuring huddled civilians within a building as uniformed soldiers battle outside. In part inspired by the mature message found in award-winning indie game Papers, Please and an article that recapped "One Year of Hell" within a besieged Bosnia, Senior Writer Pawel Miechowski says, This War of Mine is a bleak game about the repercussions of war and attempting to survive the chaos.
In development at 11 Bit Studios, the team behind the Anomaly series, This War of Mine explicitly sets out of avoid the entertainment of firing a gun and scoring kills, Miechowski tells me. "This is a serious game. A mature game."

GDC 2014: Missing Worlds Media upgrades from UE3 following official engine release
Missing Worlds Media is using Epic's recently released development tech Unreal Engine 4 to power its new MMO City of Titans.
The developer got the greenlight to make the superhero MMORPG after successfully doubling its crowdfunding goal on Kickstarter and bringing in $678,189.
The developer had been using Unreal Engine 3, but following the successful crowdfunding campaign the studio entered discussions with Epic to licence UE4.
City of Titans is one of the first titles to be announced following Epic'sofficial release of Unreal Engine 4 to all developers under a new $19 plus royalties subscription model.
“After our Kickstarter, we were offered the opportunity to use Unreal 4 going forward,” said Missing Worlds Media president Nathaniel Downes.
“We are very excited about the project, and have been working with the new engine since December. It has been amazing seeing our city starting to come to life, thanks to the versatility and flexibility it has to offer.”
City of Titans lead developer Chris Hare added: “Since we completed our Kickstarter, we had a lot of people in our community asking why we weren’t posting up screenshots or showing them videos of what we were working on - well, now they know why.
“We managed to use some of our expanded success on an expanded license, so the world they helped us to fund will be even more vibrant and thriving than they had imagined. And our backers dream big. It’s been a long road, but Epic has been a great partner to work with. We couldn’t ask for better friends in the business.”

"Some financial services companies are looking to migrate their ATM fleets from Windows to Linux in a bid to have better control over hardware and software upgrade cycles. Pushing them in that direction apparently is Microsoft's decision to end support for Windows XP on April 8, said David Tente, executive director, USA, of the ATM Industry Association. 'There is some heartburn in the industry' over Microsoft's end-of-support decision, Tente said. ATM operators would like to be able to synchronize their hardware and software upgrade cycles. But that's hard to do with Microsoft dictating the software upgrade timetable. As a result, 'some are looking at the possibility of using a non-Microsoft operating system to synch up their hardware and software upgrades,' Tente said."

First Microsoft used warnings and migration tools to help make Windows XP users upgrade. Now, it's trying a different tack: bribery. In an effort to get folks to stop using the 12-year-old OS, Microsoft is offering XP hold-outs a $100 discount off new Windows 8 PCs. That sounds like a sweet deal -- and it might well be -- but there are several catches you should be aware of. First off, the promotion only applies to a select few models, and you'll need to visit a Microsoft Store to even see the full list.

Ubisoft has announced that players who pre-order Trials Fusion for PC on Uplay and other digital retailers will gain access to a closed beta, which will begin March 21.
The publisher also confirmed a slight delay for the Windows version, which will now arrive a week later than consoles on April 24.
The Beta phase will include 14 tracks and 2 skill games during its first phase, with leaderboards and challenges. The content of the Beta will evolve in time through weekly updates until launch, according to Ubisoft.
Once again developed by Redlynx, which Ubisoft acquired in 2011, the follow-up to Trials HD and Trials Evolution features a number of familiar features alongside a visual upgrade and an increased array of customisable bikes.
In a recent Trials Fusion preview, CVG contributor Nick Cowen said the game "feels robust" and like "the next step in the franchise's evolution".
"Yes, there's a lot players will recognise from past iterations and yes, it is standing on the shoulders of a giant. But Trials: Fusion feels like the next step in the franchise's evolution.
"It feels necessary and immediate. It feels like a game that can leave its predecessors in the dust and if you're one of the many, many people who became slightly addicted to them, you'll know what a recommendation that is."

The PC version of Titanfall will at some stage be adding 4K resolution support to the mix.
Respawn has been working with Nvidia to add-in support for some Nvidia GameWorks features into the game.
As well as 4K display support and increased SLI compatibility, future patches will also add temporal anti-aliasing (TXAA) and horizon based ambient occlusion+ (HBAO+) support.
“Nvidia GameWorks represents our promise to gamers and developers to make the best game experience possible,” developer content and technology team boss Ashu Regesaid.
“GameWorks is a collection of technologies and tools that include visual and physical simulation software, development kits, debuggers, algorithms, engines and libraries that can already be found in top-selling games.”
Titanfall currently outputs in 792p on Xbox One. The resolution of the recently delayed Xbox 360 version is yet to be confirmed.

"Intel used the backdrop of the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco to make a handful of interesting announcements that run the gamut from low-power technologies to ultra-high-end desktop chips. In addition to outing a number of upcoming processors—from an Anniversary Edition Pentium to a monster 8-core Haswell-E — Intel also announced a new technology dubbed Ready Mode. Intel's Ready Mode essentially allows a 4th Gen Core processor to enter a low C7 power state, while the OS and other system components remain connected and ready for action. Intel demoed the technology, and along with compatible third party applications and utilities, showed how Ready Mode can allow a mobile device to automatically sync to a PC to download and store photos. The PC could also remain in a low power state and stream media, server up files remotely, or receive VOIP calls. Also, in a move that's sure to get enthusiasts excited, Intel revealed details regarding Haswell-E. Similar to Ivy Bridge-E and Sandy Bridge-E, Haswell-E is the 'extreme' variant of the company's Haswell microarchitecture. Haswell-E Core i7-based processors will be outfitted with up to eight processor cores, which will remain largely unchanged from current Haswell-based chips. However, the new CPU will connect to high-speed DDR4 memory and will be paired to the upcoming Intel X99 chipset. Other details were scarce, but you can bet that Haswell-E will be Intel's fastest desktop processor to date when it arrives sometime in the second half of 2014. Intel also gave a quick nod to their upcoming 14nm Broadwell CPU architecture, a follow-on to Haswell. Broadwell will be the first Intel desktop processor to feature integrated Iris Pro Graphics and will also be compatible with Intel Series 9 chipsets."

GDC 2014: API to work across PC, Xbox One, tablets and smartphones
Microsoft has revealed the latest version of its DirectX API at GDC.
The new version has been designed work across across multiple platforms including PC, Xbox One, tablets and smartphones.
It was claimed he API reduces CPU overhead significantly compared to DirectX 11 and was designed from scratch to take full advantage of advanced GPU hardware features on next-gen systems.
DirectX 12 was shown off on stage with a tech demo of Forza 5 running on a PC powered by an Nvidia Geforce Titan Black by Microsoft DirectX development manager Anuj Gosalia.
Nvidia, which worked with Microsoft on developing the API, will support the latest upgrade on all DirectX 11-class GPUs it has shipped in the Fermi, Kepler and Maxwell architectural families.
“DX12’s focus is on enabling a dramatic increase in visual richness through a significant decrease in API-related CPU overhead,” said Nvidia engineer Henry Moreton.
“Historically, drivers and OS software have managed memory, state, and synchronisation on behalf of developers. However, inefficiencies result from the imperfect understanding of an application’s needs. DX12 gives the application the ability to directly manage resources and state, and perform necessary synchronisation. As a result, developers of advanced applications can efficiently control the GPU, taking advantage of their intimate knowledge of the game’s behaviour.”
While initial details have covered the form of the graphics API, Moreton said future Direct3D releases would include new rendering features.
No release date has been set for DirectX 12.

Intel has showcased a portable all-in-one desktop PC expected to hit the market this year.
The ‘Black Brook’ desktop design is an all-in-one PC with up to a 27-inch touchscreen display, which can be unplugged from its docking station and carried around like a large-format tablet.
The prototype device, which Intel said it expects to reach the market in a range of consumer devices during 2014 and 2015, was revealed as part of Intel’s reveals at GDC 2014, where it outlined its vision of ‘revitalising the desktop’.
Intel also made a number of other announcements, including:
- An eight-core Extreme Edition version of the Core i7 processor based on Intel’s new X99 chipset – said to be the “first eight-core desktop processor [and] the first desktop platform supporting DDR4 memory”.

Valve accepted 75 more games for distribution on Steam after approval from its community on Steam Greenlight, among which is Pier Solar and the Great Architects HD, Watermelon's remake of the Megadrive RPG. Pier Solar HD, which earned over $230,000 on Kickstarter in December 2012, is joined by a recent crowdfund hopeful, sci-fi sandbox roguelike Proven Lands.
In fact, a number of this week's new Steam recruits were once success stories on Kickstarter. Dolphin exam cheating simulator Classroom Aquatic earned over $31,000 earlier this month, Trichotomy's Dog Sled Saga found modest success in May 2013, roguelike Dungeonmans earned over $43,000 in Augustand MURA Interactive's twin-stick shooter Dubwars received over $34,000 inJuly. Additionally, Will O'Neill's game about love and depression, Actual Sunlight, was among the group of games added to Steam this week.

Having proven itself on iOS, Gun Media's tactical strategy hit Breach & Clear is now coming to the PC, Mac and Linux platforms via Steam.
If that title is totally new to you, you can think of Breach & Clear as a turn-based shooter focused almost entirely on close quarters combat. Players lead a team of hardened spec ops agents who travel the world snuffing out threats and dealing with dangerous situations. The new computer versions of the game feature a revamped interface, new weapons, new missions and the addition of the German KSK as a playable faction.
Breach & Clear is slated for release on March 21, at which point it will feature a $15 price tag. To celebrate the launch, however, developer Gun Media plans to reduce the game's price to $10 "for a limited time."

Before it comes to Xbox One as part of Microsoft's independent games initiative, apocalyptic racer/shooter hybrid Calibre 10 Racing Series will launch on PC through Steam's Early Access program – likely as soon as next week. The game's developer, Bongfish, expects the alpha development period to last around six months, after which the completed game will make its way to Xbox One, roughly around Fall.
Calibre 10 Racing Series hinges on two-player teams competing on and around a deadly racetrack. One person drives to the finish line, usually in a glossy sports car that hungers for power-ups littering the track, while the other takes command of gun turrets positioned alongside the route. Drivers can defend themselves with barrel rolls (as recommended by anthropomorphic space animals), temporary shield pickups, or collect turret upgrades for their gunning teammates to rain down hell on opponents.
Developer Bongfish considers Calibre 10 a spiritual successor to Harm's Way, the bouncy arcade racer that emerged in 2010 as a finalist in Doritos' "Unlock Xbox" game design competition. If the game finishes its early access circuit with aplomb, it hopes to offer a hub for the community to design high-end concept cars. And then shoot them in the world's toughest safety standards test.

Andy Schatz is doing it again.
Monaco seemed to linger in development limbo forever because it received attention from the IGF early in its production process. In reality, it took 3.5 years to come out. Schatz's new project, codenamed Armada, is a vague concept at this point: He has a clear vision for the design, but the theme, style and development team – not to mention the name – are all still up in the air. Heannounced it anyway.
"I don't care this time because, **** it," Schatz tells me at GDC.
He's not going to release a game until "it's worth buying," but this time around he plans to throw Armada up on Steam Early Access and get player feedback.Monaco launched on XBLA, so Early Access was out of the question.
Schatz isn't shooting completely in the dark with Armada – he knows what type of game it's going to be, and he has an idea for the theme. He wants to build an RTS with MOBA elements, something accessible yet still complex. In the wayMonaco twisted the stealth genre, he wants Armada to feel familiar to RTS players, but with layers that smooth out the learning curve. He throws around the name StarCraft, and elements such as "champions" and "decks."

While self-funding a massively multiplayer real-time strategy game such asStronghold Kingdoms was a risky move for a developer like Firefly Studios, it seems to be paying off as the castle building game has attracted over three million players since its debut on February 27.
Firefly cites a passionate player base for the game's success, and notes that the game draws 200,000 users from 100 countries each month. Of course, it helps that Stronghold Kingdoms is free to download and play, and is supported by optional microtransactions, but given the number of other online games available to players with the same "free to play" price of entry, that three million player figure is still an impressive achievement.
Those interested in joining the fight can find all the information they need to get up and running on the game's official website or by visiting its page on Steam.
