Triumph Studios' turn-based strategy game Age of Wonders 3 will launch on PC next month, on March 31. The fantasy game was originally due late last year, but had to be pushed back for "additional polish."
All those who pre-purchase the game through GOG or Steam will be guaranteed an additional mission, playable in both single-player and multiplayer. Called "Elven Resurgence," this mission takes travelers to Heartwood Forest – once a meeting place for the Elven High Court, the forest is now an abandoned battlefield where scattered clans of Elves wage war for its control.
Age of Wonders 3 will be available in both a standard version for $40 and a deluxe edition for $45. The latter tosses in the Age of Wonders 3 soundtrack and an additional single-player mission revolving around eight lords feuding over a discovered dragon's egg.

Chris Roberts' upcoming space epic Star Citizen has surpassed yet another crowdfunding milestone, by attracting over $39 million to the game's development to date.
As with previous funding milestones, topping $39 million adds a new feature to the game. Specifically, a star system known as UDS-2943-01-22. "The object, once thought to be a single massive star, is actually a trinary star consisting of two white dwarfs and an active pulsar orbiting one another," reads the developer's official description. "Because of the complex gravitic factors at work, it is now believed that a jump point leading to the system likely exists in or near explored human space. Beyond the bizarre stellar makeup, the composition of the system is all but unknown."
With $39 million out of the way, Star Citizen fans can now set their sights on the next stretch goal. If Star Citizen attracts over $40 million in funding, developer Cloud Imperium Games will add an additional two star systems to the game. Beyond that, the development team has also added a new stretch goal at $41 million that will fund a team of developers to create procedural generation technology for "future iterations of Star Citizen."

DayZ has been temporarily knocked off the top spot of Steam's top sellers chart, as city-builder Banished outsold it during the past week.
Shining Rock's strategy game released last Tuesday – fairly early in the sales tracking period – so next week we'll see what kind of staying power it has.
DayZ and Rust are recovering just fine, finishing second and third respectively – though fellow Early Access hit Starbound fell off the list entirely.
That's due to a combination of pre-order sales for upcoming AAA's Thief and South Park: The Stick of Truth, along with major sales for past chart regulars – like ArmA 3 and The Witcher 2.
Here's the list in full:
- Banished
- DayZ
- Rust
- Call of Duty: Ghosts
- ArmA 3
- Garry's Mod
- South Park: The Stick of Truth
- Space Engineers
- The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition
- Thief

Microsoft is reportedly planning to cut the license fee of Windows 8 by 70 per cent.
Bloomberg, citing “people familiar with the program”, stated that “manufacturers will be charged $15 [£9] to license Windows 8.1 and preinstall it on devices that retail for less than $250 [£150], instead of the usual fee of $50 [£30]”.
“The discount will apply to any products that meet the price limit, with no restrictions on the size or type of device.”
The move is supposedly to bring the cost of Windows 8 devices closer to that of lower-price machines such as Google Chromebooks.
Over 200 million Windows 8 licences have been sold since the operating system’s launch in October 2012 – a slower uptake rate than that of Windows 8’s predecessor, Windows 7.
PCR has reached out to Microsoft for further details concerning the reports.

SanDisk has revealed the world’s first 128GB microSD memory card.
Announcing the SanDisk Ultra microSDXC UHS-I at Mobile World Congress 2014, SanDisk stated that its new “technology innovation” had helped to boost microSD capacity by over 1,000 times in less than a decade.
“To enable 128GB of storage on a removable microSD card, SanDisk developed an innovative proprietary technique that allows for 16 memory die to be vertically stacked, each shaved to be thinner than a strand of hair,” the firm detailed in the announcement.
The 128GB card, which is said to be designed for use in Android devices, can hold up to 16 hours of Full HD video, 7,500 songs, 3,200 photos or more than 125 apps.
“SanDisk’s high-performance 128GB SanDisk Ultra microSDXC memory card will reshape the way users interact with their devices,” said Stuart Robinson, director, handset component technologies, strategy analytics at SanDisk.
“Until now, consumers had to spread out their content between multiple products because the memory on those devices was not able to hold enough data in one place. This 128GB microSD card is going to be popular as the preferred removable storage option, giving users fast, secure and reliable access to their personal data archives.”
“The new SanDisk Ultra microSDXC card again demonstrates how SanDisk continues to expand the possibilities of storage so that consumers can benefit from our latest technology advancements,” added Susan Park, director, retail product marketing at SanDisk.
“With 128GB of removable storage, consumers will enjoy the freedom to capture and save whatever they want on a smartphone or tablet, without worrying about running out of storage space.”
The 128GB SanDisk Ultra microSD memory card is available worldwide now with an MSRP of $199.99 (£120).

I have a confession to make. I've found a free-to-play game with a cooldown system that I love. Usually, these artificial barriers to progress make me climb the walls in despair. InExtrasolar, a narrative browser game from Lazy 8 Studios, I actively look forward to being made to wait for the next bit of gameplay. The difference is context. In Extrasolar, you sign up with XRI, a private space agency exploring an alien world, Epsilon Prime. You're not playing as a character, you're you. And you're not on Epsilon Prime, you're a volunteer controlling a robotic rover on the planet's surface from your home PC. Accessing XRI's systems via your web browser, you click-and-drag on a map of the small island that is your designated research area, and tell your rover where to go next. You'll have missions to complete, directing you to certain spots or in search of certain samples, but once you're past a short introductory section you have the freedom to tackle tasks in whatever order you want, or simply explore under your own steam. Once a waypoint has been set, the rover trundles off, takes a photo of the map location you sent it to, and you receive the image.Just as this is a game that comes to you via your inbox and browser and is experienced in real life, so too does the whole experience play out in real time. Epsilon Prime has its own lunar cycle, your rover has limited range and speed, and so if you want a photo in the daylight - or in the dark - you may need to tell it to wait for the appropriate time. And you'll have to wait as well.Once a photo arrives back, rendered in the cloud with almost photo-real precision, your job is to study it and tag up to three points of interest, which then get analysed by XRI. The more things you find, the more the database on Epsilon Prime fills up. It's an ingenious concept, and one that turns the countdown mechanic into a period of anticipation, entirely justified by the narrative, rather than a crude interruption against your will.

The developer of Oculus Rift has run out of components to make more headsets, and production has ceased as a result.
Oculus' virtual reality goggles have been a smash hit - so much so that the supply of parts needed to make them has now been exhausted."Certain components used in the Oculus Rift developer kit are no longer being manufactured, meaning they are no longer available to us for production," the company revealed in a post on the Oculus Reddit. "As a result, we don't have the necessary materials to produce additional kits."We still have some stock available, but we're quickly running out."Oculus is now attempting to source the parts from elsewhere but does not have a timeline for when additional units will be available."As we sell out of inventory in each region we plan to suspend sales in that region until we are able to deliver new orders," the company concluded.

Forget the fact that Ford CEO Alan Mulally was reportedly a contender for the Microsoft CEO job: the two companies have long had a cozy relationship, with Ford using Windows to power its in-car Sync software. That could change, though, if this story from Bloomberg is correct. The news agency is reporting that Ford plans to ditch Windows for its next-gen Sync system and base it on BlackBerry'sQNX instead. In particular, Bloomberg's sources claim that a move to QNX would be more cost-effective, and also lead to potential improvements in "speed and flexibility."
Indeed, the performance could be the deciding factor here: Ford has rated the quality of its vehicles "mixed" for the last three years, according to Bloomberg, with customers complaining about tech malfunctions in customer satisfaction surveys by J.D. Power & Associates and Consumer Reports. For now, Ford, BlackBerry and Microsoft have all declined comment. If the report is true, though, Ford would find itself in very good company: luxury brands like Audi and BMW already use QNX in their in-car systems.

Mighty Rocket Studio, the renamed Hydravision Entertainment that developed survival-horror games ObsCure and ObsCure 2, has announced plans to bring the series to Steam. Fresh trailers for both games have appeared on the studio's YouTube page, which supplement a tweet about their plans to offer the games in the "beginning of March."
The games begin by following a group of highschoolers as they search for a missing friend, which quickly turns into a fight to survive in a science-fiction horror setting. A spore-like substance causes people to mutate into monsters, supplying plenty of enemies for the protagonists. Nightmarish mutants follow the group into their college years in ObsCure 2, proving that even if you survive a terrible, movie-worthy disaster, your days are probably still numbered.
Platforms weren't specified in the announcement, but we won't have to wait too long before the games are released. The ObsCure series was also translatedinto a sidescrolling brawler last year called Final Exam, which was less about horror and more about blasting everything that moves into a bloody mess.

On Friday, Chrome 33 was shipped out the everyone on the stable channel. Among other things, it removes the developer flag to disable the "Instant Extended API", which powers an updated New Tab page. The new New Tab page receieved a large amount of backlash from users, particularly due to strange behavior when Google wasn't set as the default search engine. It also moves the apps section to a separate page and puts the button to reopen recently closed tabs in the Chrome menu. With the option to disable this change removed, there has been tremendous backlash on Google Chrome's official forum. The official suggestion from Google as well as OMG! Chrome is to try some New Tab page changing extensions, such as Replace New Tab, Modern New Tab Page, or iChrome.

Little over a week after its predecessor came to Steam, Descent 2 is now available on Valve's digital distribution platform. You can grab Descent 2 on Windows PC for $10 right now.
Descent 2 takes place directly after the events of the first 3D first-person shooter. At the outset of Descent 2, players are outfitted with an experimental warp core and blackmailed into exploring mines beyond our solar system. The sequel was initially planned as an expansion, but due to the popularity of the first game, Descent 2 was fleshed out to be a full-fledged follow-up.

Garry Newman's physics sandbox, Garry's Mod, has surpassed $30 million in revenue, the creator has revealed on Twitter. The $10 download has been available on Steam since 2006.
More surprising, however, is Newman's latest Rust, which has already earned him more than Garry's Mod. In a follow-up tweet, Newman said Rust sales have earned .34 percent more for the indie developer.
Rust, a sandbox survival game inspired by DayZ, has only been on Steam for about two months. More than one million individuals have purchased Rust, which is currently available as an Early Access release for $20.

Abbey Games, the studio behind colossus god game Reus, is working on its next project, a turn-based, ever-changing exploration game called Renowned Explorers – International Society. It follows a team of explorers in the 19th century as they attempt to find legendary treasures before the World Expo begins.
As the captain, players gather a team of explorers and follow a series of leads to find specific treasures. Once a treasure is found, the game becomes turn-based as the team explores the location, encounters enemies and allies, and digs up resources. Abbey cites Jules Verne, Indiana Jones, XCOM: Enemy Unknown and Fire Emblem as inspirations.
"To grant you a new unexplored world every game, Renowned Explorers will generate and pose new mysteries, challenges, characters and combinations every time you start," Abbey says. "Our new game is built to train you in the art of exploration, and it will reward you with deeper mysteries and rare treasure."

Crytek issued a new update for the PC version of Warface this week, adding two new modes to the multiplayer game. The free-to-play FPS received a co-op mode known as Tower Raid, shown in a new trailer for the game, in addition to the Capture versus mode. Crytek also renamed the Claymore mine in the update, changing it to the "Directional Mine," and increased the item unlock progression speed in both co-op and versus modes.
Crytek provided the full patch notes in a post on its GFace social platform. There's no word on whether these modes will wind up on Xbox 360 as well.Warface entered its beta phase on the platform earlier this month, and requires an Xbox Live Gold subscription to play.

Broken Age, the Double Fine adventure game too big for its $3.3 million Kickstarter campaign, released its first half last month. Now, studio founder Tim Schafer tells GamesIndustry International that the release has been a success, and that part two has been successfully funded.
"We've made enough that we can make the second half of the game for sure," Schafer told GamesIndustry, before noting that he believes the first half isn'tquite done yet, since it has yet to release on iPad like the studio promised it would. Still, Schafer seemed upbeat.
"We've shipped enough that people can see we weren't kidding, and that's a big relief. Because I think there's a lot of pressure on Kickstarter projects, especially the really big Kickstarter projects, to just not screw it up for everybody else. It's such a great, positive thing for us, and being able to be funded by our fans opens so many doors for us to do original, creative things that we just wanted to live up to [expectations]."
The decision to break Broken Age into two parts was not one met with overwhelming enthusiasm by some backers (just take a look at the comments). It would seem that the wallet speaks louder though, and the wallets want a conclusion to Broken Age.

At present, it's tricky to make Windows PCs that cost as little as basic Android tablets and Chromebooks. While Microsoft charges vendors $50 to use Windows, Google often gives its software away. The crew in Redmond may have found a way to narrow the price gap, though. Bloomberg claims that Microsoft is cutting Windows 8.1's license fee to $15 for any device that sells for less than $250, letting builders offer very cheap Windows PCs without destroying their profits. The developer isn't commenting on the reported discount, but this would be a familiar strategy; Microsoft slashed Windows XP's pricing to wipe out Linux netbooks a few years ago. There's no guarantee that the company will repeat its earlier success if the lower Windows 8.1 prices take effect. However, it may feel compelled to act when PC shipments are still declining and mobile OS tablets are on the rise -- the status quo clearly isn't working.
