AMD announced new Radeon R9 and R7 300 series of graphics cards earlier this week, and while they are interesting, they're not nearly as impressive as AMD's upcoming flagship of AMD GPU, code named Fiji. Fiji will find its way into three products this summer: the Radeon R9 Nano, Radeon R9 Fury, and the range-topping (and water-cooled) Radeon R9 Fury X. Other upcoming variants like, AMD's dual-Fiji board, were teased at E3 but are still under wraps. However, while full reviews are still under embargo, the official specification of the Radeon R9 Fury X have been revealed, along with an array of benchmark scores comparing the GPU to NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 980 Ti. Should the numbers AMD has released jibe with independent testing, the Radeon R9 Fury X looks strong and possibly faster than Nvidia's GeForce GTX 980 Ti.

Google has decided to expunge it's new Chrome bookmark manager in favor of the previous version, likely because users kind of hated it. With search, images and other fancy additions, it probably seemed like a good idea at the time. But the changes weren't very useful, and made bookmarking cluttered and slow on a browser most people go to for speed. If you still want it, Google said you can download it as an extension from the Chrome Web Store. The rest of us can pretend the whole thing never happened, though the product team did say it'll still "continue to explore other ways to improve the bookmark experience."

It seems like Microsoft's approach to virtual reality will mimic its approach to the PC world: Support just about every piece of hardware. The company just revealed that it's partnering with Valve VR to "make Windows 10 the best platform for VR." Valve is also partnering with HTC for the Vive headset, which impressed us earlier this year. This news comes on top of last week's surprising announcement that Microsoft is teaming up with Oculus, a deal that will see Oculus bundle in the Xbox One controller with its headset. Oculus VR users will also be able to stream Xbox One games to their headsets (though not in VR mode), which is something we expect Microsoft to offer to Valve VR hardware as well. Unfortunately, we still haven't heard anything about the Xbox One supporting VR headsets directly, but we're still hoping for some sort of surprise announcement.

As if backward compatibility for Xbox One wasn't enough, Microsoft's also going to let you stream those older games to Windows 10 PCs. In a private demo of the Xbox One's revamped interface, the company confirmed to Engadget that users will have access to its streaming functionality when the new features roll out this holiday season. (If you're a member of the Preview Program, though, you should already be able to play 360 games on a Win 10 machine.) Microsoft also revealed that Xbox 360 titles relying on the original Kinect, or any other hardware accessories, won't work with Xbox One. A company spokesperson said the team wanted to have backward compatibility from launch day, but it turned out to be a difficult task because of the different architecture between the two systems. For your sake, at least it's here now.

Toshiba just unveiled its back-to-school laptop lineup, and while mainstream notebooks are normally a bit of a snooze, there's at least one detail that makes these worth a second look. Everything in the line, from the $395 entry-level model to the souped-up 4K editions, has a built-in keyboard button to launchCortana in Windows 10. Just hit what appears to be a search key in the Function row, and you'll bring up Microsoft's voice assistant, which can respond to commands like "what's the weather?", "tell me a joke" and "sing a song". (With all due respect to Cortana voice actress Jen Taylor, you might want to skip that last one.) Toshiba is not the only PC maker that's chosen to add extra features related to Cortana, but the built-in hotkey is still pretty novel.

The newly-announced Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows will only work with the latest version of Microsoft’s operating system.
Revealed alongside the new 1TB Xbox One machine and redesigned Xbox One controller, the memory stick-sized dongle allows players to connect said gamepad to their PC for use with compatible titles.
It will be available both on its own for $24.99 (£16) and bundled with a new controller for $79.95 (£52). UK pricing is yet to be released.
However, the adapter will operate exclusively on the upcoming Windows 10 OS, Microsoft has now confirmed (viaPolygon). A USB 2.0 or 3.0 connection is also required.
Set for release on July 29th, Windows 10 will be a free update for existing owners of Microsoft’s last two Windows platforms – 7 and 8.1.

Consumers after Valve’s Steam Machines and Link tech need to get a move on.
Over 35 per cent of Steam’s ‘get it early’ hardware pre-orders have already been sold.
That’s according to Valve, who says that the its Steam Machine, Controller and Link hardware is shifting quickly.
Last week, Valve opened pre-orders for the Alienware Steam Machine.
Consumers who pre-order at the moment will get the hardware on October 16th, ahead of its official launch date of November 10th.
"The 'get it early' preorder offer is available to everyone who preorders, but only while supplies last,” Valve said. "As of this writing, we have sold over 35 percent of the limited quantity available for early delivery in October."
Little has been said about the hardware’s launch in the UK, though the Steam Link streaming box is exclusive to GAME in the region.
Both the Steam Machines and Steam Link come with a Steam Controller. Valve released details about the final form of Valve’s gamepad last week.

Steam’s new refund policy appears to be a step in the right direction for consumers, but has it also opened the door for rough treatment of smaller developers?
Valve yesterday revealed that buyers will be able to get a “no questions asked” refund on any title that they have purchased within the previous 14 days and not played for over two hours. (Note, though, that the refund process does actually specifically ask the question “why do you want a refund?”)
This marks a reversal on the controversial refund policyimplemented in March.
Many big indie developers, including Thomas Was Alone’s Mike Bithell and Nuclear Throne’s Rami Ismail have backed the new scheme due to its bolstering of consumer confidence, others – including Brianna Wu – have asked whether it puts smaller games in a more perilous position.
“The Steam policy is actively giving us a world where certain kinds of shorter experiences don’t even figure in to the economic ecology that we imagine around games,” Epanalepsis creator Cameron Kunzelman told Kotaku. “It’s actively destructive to anyone wanting to make something smaller and content-driven, like concise narrative games.”
The wider fear is that those who buy smaller games such as Proteus, Gone Home or The Stanley Parable can buy the title, experience most of what is on offer and then claim their money back.
The potential issues don’t stop there, however. Currently only those who have purchased a title can place a review, but this new policy could pave the way for ‘review bombing’ – that is, an organised group buying copies of a game by a creator that has angered them, then posting reviews and requesting a refund.
There’s also a potential problem for DRM-free games as there doesn’t appear to be an obvious mechanism to stop buyers copying the game files and then requesting a refund.
Valve has said it will monitor the refunds procedure for any potential abuse.

Microsoft has announced that Windows 10 is coming on July 29th, and you don't even need to get out of your chair to get a spot in the upgrade line. Take a gander at your Notification Area in the Taskbar and you should find a Windows icon that, when clicked, reveals a shiny new Windows 10 upgrade panel. It's currently being rolled out to select users, since plenty of you have emailed in screenshots, but we've yet to see it ourselves. As before, users will have a year to climb onto the Free Windows 10bandwagon, but once they do, they'll get free security upgrades for the life of the device.

Intel has revealed a crop of new fifth-gen Core chips for mobile and desktop that should tide over power-users and gamers until next-gen "Skylake" CPUs arrive later this year. There are five new models for desktop and five for mobile, all packing the latest Iris Pro 6200 graphics. The most interesting model for desktop users is the Core i7-5775-C, a CPU that will replace the current i7-4790S for around $365. Thanks to the Iris chip, Intel says that model will double its predecessor's graphics performance and boost media chores by 35 percent. The top new laptop model is the $623 Core i7-5950HQ chip, which doubles the overall performance of older i7-5600U models.

With AMD's new sixth-generation A-series processors, laptops in the $400 to $700 range could soon become far more capable. Formerly code-named "Carizzo," the new chips offer twice the gaming performance of Intel's Core i7, thanks to discrete Radeon graphics. They're the first mainstream processors with hardware decoding for H.265/HEVC video, the successor to the current H.264 standard which includes far better compression and support for 4K resolutions. And they'll also pack in up to 12 compute cores (four CPU and eight GPU), which basically means they'll be able to handle whatever you throw at them. Why focus on mainstream laptops? AMD notes that it's the largest segment of the PC market by revenue and volume sold, so it makes sense for a company that's traditionally focused on value to show it some love.

While Dell managed to surprise us with its rather handsome XPS 15 -- the sibling of the thin-bezel XPS 13 laptop -- at Computex, it's also bringing us a range of both new and refreshed models ahead of the Windows 10 launch. Starting off with the headliner, we have the Inspiron 15 7000 series laptop (pictured above) that runs on Intel's quad-core Core i7H chip, and it's garnished with Waves MaxxAudio enhancement plus a "performance class" NVIDIA graphics processor with 4GB of GDDR5 memory, so you'll get some good gaming action on it. Most importantly, the machine's 15-inch FHD display has an optional 4K touchscreen upgrade that looks stunning, though it isn't clear as to how long that 74WHr battery can last for. The price? All we know so far is that it'll start from 5,999 yuan or about $970 when it launches in China on August 7th.

In case there was any doubt that Microsoft's war against Linux is (mostly) over, the company just offered another olive branch. The company has revealed that its PowerShell team is working on support for the Secure Shell protocol and shell sessions (aka SSH) to make it easier for Windows- and Linux-based PCs to connect to and remotely control each other. While SSH has been an option in the Windows world, Microsoft's Angel Calvo says there have been "limited implementations" so far -- this would simplify things and give you "tight integration" with Windows that wasn't feasible before. It's too early to tell when the feature will be available, but it's at least in the cards.

Microsoft will launch its biggest Xbox One exclusive games on the PC.
While the company has already confirmed that users will be able to stream Xbox One games to a Windows 10 computer when the new OS launches this summer, PCR understands that games currently listed as exclusive to Xbox will eventually launch on PC as full standalone titles.
Several industry sources have confirmed the news to PCR.
"It's a rumour which I know to be true," said one senior PC gaming industry executive.
"Microsoft are going to be focusing a lot more on the PC gaming side than previously, and they’re also going to be bringing a lot of Xbox platform exclusives to Windows as well.
"So this includes some of the biggest franchises in the Microsoft stable like Fable, Forza Motorsport and Halo. They're all forecasted to start coming out on PC in the future."
The latest games in those series - Fable Legends, Forza Motorsport and Halo 5: Guardians (pictured) - are all due for release this year, with Halo 5 set to launch on October 27th. Microsoft has previously confirmed that Fable Legends will arrive on PC, too.
If true, this news will also mean that Rise of the Tomb Raider - currently listed as an Xbox exclusive - will also be coming out on PC.
However, it's not clear when exactly these games may arrive on PC.
Last year, Microsoft showcased a Forza 5 demo running on the PC as opposed to Xbox One. It did tell Eurogamer in March 2014 that the demo "was simply a rendering tech demo to showcase the power and ease of development for DX12. We have no plans to release Forza Motorsport 5, or any other Microsoft Studios Xbox One title on PC."
However, Microsoft is now heavily pushing the gaming side of Windows 10, which is set to arrive this summer, with users of Windows 7 and 8 receiving a free upgrade to Windows 10 within its first year of launch.
Windows 10 hands-on
As well as allowing Xbox One players to stream games to their PC, Windows 10 also uses DirectX 12 to improve graphics and performance within PC games. You can check out an impressive DX12 tech demo video here.
"What we’re seeing is game developers are adopting DX12 today," our source added. "Microsoft has invested in them and given them early access to the technology. It was years before we saw games using DX10 tech, but because DX12 gives you such a boost, it’s already being adopted.
"And that's also helped by the fact it’s going to be a shared API with Xbox One. That will really drive cross-format games using the tech.
"Microsoft have realised they don’t just have one game platform. And PC gaming is vastly outstripping consoles in terms of interest and focus."
"So it’s very exciting. The PC has been targeted as the number one platform by developers at GDC last year. They took a survey which asked: What’s your number one target platform? PC was first, mobile was second and console was third. And that tells you about the health of the [PC] business – it’s massive.
"If you look at Microsoft’s roadmap, their Xbox exclusives are going to be Windows platform exclusives moving on, not just Xbox. Particularly, as Xbox is an integral part of Windows 10 - there's an Xbox app and Xbox store on Windows - this shows you their commitment to rolling out the Xbox brand, not just as a console, but as a platform."

It's no secret that Windows Store has serious issues not just with scammy apps, but also with spammy ones. Now, Microsoft is finally addressing that problem by introducing a stricter certification policy for new and existing apps that could clean its catalog enough to make browsing the store less painful. The new policy has four main points starting with eliminating apps with almost identical names and icons, those whose titles don't match up with their content, and those that aren't very useful or unique. Microsoft will also prune away applications considerably more expensive than similar ones in its category.
