It's time for bots and chat spammers to say farewell, gamigo has declared. A slew of anti-bot measures will be implemented into its popular new MMORPG Martial Empires to ensure undisturbed gameplay.
A special highlight of this new security package is a new kind of opponent: the Suricat Police. This new kind of vigilante patrols different areas in the game and warns players against attacking them. Players that heed their warning have nothing to worry about. A bot that ignores their warning, though, will be turned into a ghost and unable to play.
You can download this image and other screenshots of the Suricat Police from our press server.
As an added measure of security, players will be prompted at set intervals to type in a code. Entering the right code will be rewarded with a buff. To protect against spammers, the global chat channels will only be open to characters who have reached level 15 and troublemakers can be ignored permanently.

Video game industry analysts' ears perked up yesterday following the release of Blizzard's super anticipated RTS, StarCraft 2 -- sensing a need for the skills of their vocation, these analysts began firing off their predictions for how the game would sell through the end of the year. According to Gamespot, Signal Hill's Tom Greenwald suggests that "5-6 million units this year are highly achievable," while Lazard Capital Markets' Colin Sebastian predicts the game to sell 4.5 million units through September and 6.5 million units by the end of 2010.
Speaking to USA Today, Morgan Wedbush guru Michael Pachter gave his prediction: five million copies within the next two to three months. Using our own comprehension of the gaming industry, as well as a few tricks we've picked up from The Price is Right, we've got our own predictions: Five million and one by October, six-and-a-half million and one by the end of the year. Oh, yeah. That spot on the Showcase Showdown is ours for sure.

Along with yesterday's launch of StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty came the opening of the game's official forums on Battle.net. Rooting around in the technical support folders has revealed the current state of play with the game's launch bugs and detailed advice on its system requirements and compatibility.
In short - as you might expect from Blizzard - it's in pretty good shape. The lists of known issues and bugs on the US forums and European forums reveal nothing more serious than the game not working properly in Windows compatibility modes and rendering a black screen when used with a Quick Cam webcam.
On Mac, it's not completely stable if you're running OS X 10.6 with Nvidia graphics drivers, or using a USB headset.
You will also find very detailed system requirements on the forums that, as well as listing the required and recommended specs, list the compatibility or otherwise of a lot of processor and video card families.
We're deep in StarCraft II right now. Expect a review late this week or early next.

Ntreev announced today an all-new Pangya Wiki event and new Cut-in system feature. Starting today through August 11th, players can visit the Pangya Wiki and contribute their own useful information to the Pangya database to earn special rewards. To learn more about the event and to download and play the game for free, players can visit http://Pangya.ntreev.net/.
Players will have the chance to prove their Pangya knowledge in this innovative new Wiki event by increasing the number of pages featured on the Pangya Wiki. Players will need to visit the Pangya Wiki at http://wiki.ntreev.net/pangya/index.php/Main_Page and contribute useful information to the Pangya database through fact checking, writing and editing. The Wiki currently has 698 pages and every time players reach a page count milestone - 800, 1000 or 1200 - they will receive special rewards. Wiki event goals include Double EXP Event when players reach 800 pages, Double Pang Event at 1000 pages and Double Papel Rate Event at 1200.
A new Pangya Cut-In System feature will also make its debut today. With this new system, a character illustration appears across the screen when players take an action to trigger it; for example, by making a special shot. Players will need to purchase the Cut-In item and perform the specific shots required to activate the Cut-In.
"We know our players are fountains of information and facts about Pangya and we bet they have a lot of exclusive information to share,"
said Chris Lee, CEO at Ntreev USA. "With this original Wiki event players will be able to show off their knowledge and educate new players in return for generous rewards."
Pangya is a casual online multiplayer golf game that simulates the exciting sport of golf in an anime-inspired style with an immersive fantastical storyline. With varied landscapes ranging from captivating deserts to lush green tropics, snowy wonderlands, and more, players will discover that the once peaceful island of Pangya was interrupted by evil forces that vowed to destroy Pangya's serene nature.
It is ultimately up to the citizens of Pangya to restore the island to its former glory. By placing the Comet in its rightful place nature can finally be revived. To save Pangya, players will find themselves deeply entrenched in a competitive field where they will experience a surge of emotions, excitement, and heart-stopping determination as they attempt to putt the last critical shot amidst mystical fire-breathing dragons. Players can go head to head in Tournament, Pang Battle, Team Match, or Family Mode. Join Pangya to escape to paradise and swing for the heavens!
Pangya is free for players to download and play, while some items in the game including certain characters, clothing sets, new equipment and accessories will be available to purchase via micro-transaction.
The in-game currency in Pangya, called Pang, allows players to purchase items from the game's shop that will upgrade a character, provide new inventory and equipment, allows them to send gifts to other players and more. Gamers can earn Pang by finishing a hole at par or better and by showcasing powerful shots.

UTV True Games announced today that they have partnered to bring popular action-adventure MMO, Warrior Epic, to Asia. AsiaSoft will exclusively publish, distribute and operate UTV True Games' Warrior Epic across Asian territories. The game is now available at AsiaSoft's @Global Games portal, http://www.aglobalsea.com/ with each Southeast Asian territory's website is available in the native language.
"Warrior Epic was developed in Asia with the Asian gamer in mind so we are excited to finally bring the game home to these fans," said Jeff Lujan, CEO at UTV True Games. "AsiaSoft is the perfect partner to help us foster new relationships with gamers in Southeast Asian territories such as Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam and more."
Warrior Epic is an online, action role-playing game set in an original fantasy universe. In the game, players will assume command of a Warrior Hall from which they manage their characters' adventures. They can recruit from a wide array of Warrior Classes, each with its own style of play. Each class and the Hall itself can be upgraded visually as well as functionally. Players adventure together in multiplayer campaigns, adventure mode, solo quests and PVP.
One of the most unique aspects of Warrior Epic is that death does not mean the end of a warrior. Instead, it opens totally new and strategic options for players. The game's unique Warrior Spirits System enables fallen warriors to not only be revived at any time at their hall, but also to be transformed into Spirits that can be bound to weapons to increase and open weapon abilities and skills, or they can be called out to inflict massive damage depending on player needs.

Blizzard's an honest bunch. StarCraft II just released today and already it's done its fans the service of listing issues and bugs in the game of which it's currently aware.
The developer's also laid out a list of graphics cards and CPUs that will and will not meet the requirements of the game. We suggest you have a good look, even if the beta worked on your machine, because we're seeing comments from some that the full game isn't quite as hardware friendly.
Known issues range from an (ironic) incompatibility with Windows' Compatibility mode, excessive frame rates (a fix to limit frame rates is within the list), black screen issues related to the Quick Cam webcam, and anti-virus program conflicts.

July 27th, 2010, 23:08 Posted By: wraggster
Blizzard's plan to force gamers to use their real names when posting in its forum - and its subsequent backtrack - was a "process" that "worked", the US game creator has said.
Two weeks ago Blizzard about-turned on its decision to require and use people's real names for the StarCraft II and World of Warcraft forums following huge protests from gamers.
Real ID, as it's called, stores people's real first names and surnames so that other people can befriend them across multiple games and recognise their real-life friends.
"We weren't surprised to get feedback," vice president and executive managing director for international operations Michael Ryder told Eurogamer before StarCraft II's midnight launch at GAME, Oxford Street.
"That's something that's part of our culture. We know we're fortunate to have a lot of passionate players that care about what we do.
"So we always go out to the players and give them a heads up on what we're thinking about doing, and we look for their feedback.
"In this case we got feedback."
Yesterday BioWare Mythic general manager Eugene Evans told Eurogamer that he was "surprised" Blizzard went for Real ID in the first place. "For a group that is so close to their community, it was amazing that they misread it that poorly," he said.
But, ultimately, Evans said Blizzard's change of heart was the right decision.
"We should all learn to listen to our communities."
Ryder described the "process", as he called it: "We were able to take that feedback, reconsider, consider all the factors, of which feedback was one. Ultimately we decided we would not go in that direction for the time being, and see if there were other ways we could address the objective we had, which was to improve the forums generally.
"So, all in all, the process worked. We put the word out. We got the feedback. We reconsidered. We made a change. We appreciate the fact that we have such passionate fans."
Ryder said the experience has, in the end, shown Blizzard in a positive light.
"It reinforces the notion that we're privileged to have those players that care and give us feedback."
StarCraft II is out now for PC and Mac. A review is inbound.

SOE has announced a free-to-play version of EverQuest 2, called EverQuest 2 Extended. Yes, a free-to-play version. Rather than switching its business model as some MMOs have, SOE is actually going to operate Extended in parallel with the existing, subscription-based version of EverQuest 2.
Extended uses a smaller web-based application instead of EQ2's full download, and offers both free and optional paid membership content, as well as the option to purchase equipment. It includes access to all the game zones available in the "real" game, including those added in expansions up to "Shadow Odyssey". In other words, everything but the stuff added in "Sentinel's Fate." Find all the confusing details about the membership options after the break, or check the FAQ.
EverQuest 2 Extended is expected to launch in beta form "on or around August 17, 2010." Along with it, UI improvements will be released for the current version of EQ2.

July 27th, 2010, 18:40 Posted By: wraggster
Blizzard's highly anticipated StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty has launched globally, three years since it was first announced and twelve years since the original game was released.
In the UK a midnight launch took place at GAME's flagship store on Oxford Street, with hundreds of fans queuing to be first to get their hands on a boxed copy of the game, proving that a PC game can still be a big hit at retail if it's launch is turned into an event.
Blizzard had rolled out vice president of international business, Mike Ryder, to talk to the press, heavily media trained and sticking to the script – the developer makes the games it wants to play, he stated multiple times to GamesIndustry.biz, unperturbed by trends and hype in the PC market.
"I guess there's a way to look at it from a more analytic perspective, where's the market going and all that sort of thing, but we really feel like we have a great real-time strategy game franchise in StarCraft, and our development team was passionate about making the next StarCraft game," he said.
"So for us there's nothing unusual about it at all, it just seems to be a very natural thing to bring the market the successor to one of the most successful games that we've ever made."
Sales of the game are expected to be phenomenal for a PC title, although true numbers are likely to be difficult to track. While the game is expected to be number one in the UK next week - with the benefit of an early Tuesday release - sales via digital downloads are not tracked in the UK by Chart-Track.
There are similar issues in the US, although VGChartz' latest estimate is that the game had reached 800,000 pre-orders in the region before launch. Fry's Electronics held the official launch in North America, with GameStop opening over 3000 stores out of hours to sell the game.
Cowan and Company analyst Doug Creutz has said that he expects the game to sell around 5 million units in its first year of release. Janco Partners' Mike Hickey estimates 7 million sales, resulting in sales of over $350 million. The original game has sold over ten million units since launch.

Valve has restored access to Modern Warfare 2 for "over 12,000" Steam accounts, after the PC players were mistakenly banned from playing the game by the developer's anti-cheating software.
IGN reports that Valve boss Gabe Newell sent an email to all the affected users to apologise and explain, and that Valve given them all copies of Left 4 Dead 2 for free, with extras to pass on to a friend.
The problem, which occurred over the past two weeks, saw Steam's anti-cheating software banning legitimate players at random.
"The problem was that Steam would fail a signature check between the disk version of a DLL and a latent memory version," said Newell, according to IGN. "This was caused by a combination of conditions occurring while Steam was updating the disk image of a game."

Electronic Arts has poured cold water on reports that Maxis received collaborative input from fellow EA studio BioWare for its new Darkspore title.
According to an EA publicist speaking to GamePro, Maxis is working with Malcolm Azania, a writer who also worked on Mass Effect 2 at one stage, but "that's the extent of it".
Darkspore, due out in February 2011, is a fast-paced online action RPG with four-player co-op and multiplayer options. It looks a bit Diablo-esque.

Publisher Activision has seemingly challenged the established norms of UK video game RRPs by apparently placing an official price of £44.99 on today’s new release Starcraft II.
Though £45-50 tends to be the RRP of console titles, the very top rate for PC product tends to be between £35-40.
However, a number of retailers including GAME, Amazon and Play.com have listed the title as carrying an RRP of £44.99. That’s also the price being asked of those hoping to download the game direct from Blizzard from its portal Battle.net.
Activision has previous form in this department. Last year it made the headlines by confirming a wallet-busting £55 price point for the massively successful console and PC shooter Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. It looks set to do the same for this November’s Call of Duty: Black Ops.
It’s worth noting, though, that it seems impossible to find anyone selling the game for full-price. Most online retailers are offering the game for £34.99, a price matched by even High Street retailers such as HMV and PC World. GAME and Gamestation are selling it for £39.99.
MCV has contacted Activision for clarification.
UPDATE: A spokesperson for Activision has confirmed to MCV that "the official SRP of the standard edition is £44.99".

StarCraft II will sell three million copies this week alone, industry analyst Michael Pachter has told CVG.
The Wedbush man reckons this week's launch - which already looks to have captured the attention of the entire internet - will lead to Activision Blizzard moving seven million copies of the RTS by the end of the year.
Worldwide - including a discounted pricing model in South Korea - Pachter expects StarCraft 2 to make $100 million in profit for Acitivison Blizzard in this quarter alone. As if the WoW cash wasn't taking up enough room already...
The original StarCraft has managed 11 million sales in the twelve years since its release.
Speaking to CVG at the game's London launch, Blizzard said it's "proud" of its game's achievement.

12 years on from the release of its incredibly popular predecessor, Activision Blizzard has finally released the hugely anticipated PC and Mac strategy game Starcraft II.
Not wanting to force fans to wait (and quite possibly not wanting to inviate pirates to release the game illegally online) Blizzard has made the move to release the game in the UK on a Tuesday, keeping it in line with its US arrival.
Speaking to MCV at GAME’s flagship Oxford Street store in London last night, Blizzard Entertainment’s VP and executive MD of internal operations Michael Ryder explained the company’s desire to mark the arrival of its game with headline retail events.
“It does several things,” he explained. “It highlights the fact that we are launching for starters. But there is a lot of players that enjoy it and like to attend. It is something they like to engage with. People like to attend these events and get their games or t-shirts autographed. It’s a lot of fun. But it is also fun for Blizzard to get out, do what we’re doing now – meet people, see the enthusiasm for the game and be there when it launches.”
Ryder went on to explain that he expects High Street retail to retain its importance in the face of the growing digital PC sector.
“I go back to my point about doing what’s best for the player. Some of our players like digital solutions but many also like the retail solution. So we embrace both. We build our entire business around the retail channel and we expect retail to be a vital part of our future. So just like the event tonight in London is with one of our retail partners, and we are doing it in cities around the world, we really want retail to be a big part of things for us. The collector’s edition of Starcraft II is only available at retail. So we think it is a great collaboration that we want to continue.”

News via http://www.scummvm.org/news/20100725/
It's been only six years and a few months since CABAL was jokingly announced, and now the first round of Sierra's SCI games is going to be supported in ScummVM!
However, we need your help in testing the SCI games. That's right, you, the loyal ScummVM user. Go grab your DOS or Windows SCI game (that is on this list) and play through it with a ScummVM daily build. As you play through the game, try not to die too much, save often, and note down any bugs that you find so you can report them on the bug tracker. Please do not report bugs on non-PC versions of SCI games; they are not supported yet.
When you've finished going through a game, go report it on the forums. If you feel up to the challenge, move on to your next SCI game! And if you're really feeling the Sierra vibe, go test all your SCI games that are up for testing!
Even if you don't have any SCI games, you can still help out. There are many SCI demos (only choose those on the supported demo list) and fan games out there that are waiting for you to test them.
