Possessing the faith of weak mortals, they led their disciples to certain death only to satisfy their personal desires. Their hate to each other grew just like the cemeteries on Nevendaar. Truces were broken without any shadow of regret and the world became corrupted because of foul plots. However there is a gleam of light in complete darkness. An angel from heaven came to Nevendaar and has given hopes to prosperity to this restive world.

he traditionally long development cycles at Texas-based game studio id Software are coming to an end.
In an interview with IGN, Id Software Creative Director Tim Willits said fans can expect to see key releases much sooner going forward than in the past. He said the fact that Doom 4 is using id Tech 5, the same game engine being used for Rage, makes developing both titles at the same time an advantage.
"The Doom group is using the same technology; they are learning from our mistakes and they have assets they can start to test things with," Willits said. "So the plan is that Doom 4 will come out quicker and then the Rage team will start working on something else while Doom 4 is being finished up."
id Software will have spent nearly seven years between releasing its last two major titles, Doom 3 in 2004 and Rage set for late 2011. Willits claimed the studio won't have to drag its feet with title releases now that it's part of Zenimax Media, the parent company of Bethesda Softworks.
"In the past, we had one team, that's why it's taking so freaking long," he said. "One of the reasons the Zenimax partnership was so attractive to us because now we have the ability to build second teams. It makes life way better.
"Games now are so expensive and they take so much organization and planning, we have to be more efficient," Willits added.

Upcoming RTS RUSE will not use Ubisoft’s hotly-debated internet DRM, the publisher has confirmed.
Speaking in a post on Steam Community a member of the game team stated: “When RUSE is released in September, it will benefit from Valve’s Steamworks API to offer the best community experience to players.
“Consequently, a Steam account and Internet connection will be required to activate the game, as per Steam policy. For this reason, RUSE will not use the Ubisoft protection. Single player can be played offline.”
However, a spokesperson for the publisher added to VG247 that the publisher will continue to use its DRM on “most” of its PC games going forwards.
The digital rights management method employed by Ubisoft has drawn massive criticism owing to the fact that it requires users to maintain a constant internet connection for the title to validate itself, even if the user is playing offline single player.
The result was plentiful reports of users being unable to play the games they had purchased in the event of either ISP problems or, more infuriatingly, when Ubisoft was experiencing problems with its DRM servers. Indeed, said servers have been deliberately attacked on more than one occasion.
Though DRM is seen by many publishers as essential in the battle against PC piracy, critics claim that over-strict DRM can in fact boost piracy as players seek a less restricted playing experience.

Taking a page from rival Google's playbook, Mozilla plans to introduce silent, behind-the-scenes security updating to Firefox 4. The feature, which has gotten little attention from Mozilla, is currently 'on track' for Firefox 4, slated to ship before the end of the year. Firefox 4's silent update will only be offered on Windows, Mozilla has said. Most updates will be downloaded and installed automatically without asking the user or requiring a confirmation. 'We'll only be using the major update dialog box for changes like [version] 4 to 4.5 or 5," said Alex Faaborg, a principal designer on Firefox, in the 'mozilla.dev.apps.firefox' forum. 'Unfortunately users will still see the updating progress bar on load, but this is an implementation issue as opposed to a [user interface] one; ideally the update could be applied in the background.' Unlike Google, Mozilla will let users change the default silent service to the more traditional mode, where the browser asks permission before downloading and installing any update.

A report commissioned by the PC Gaming Alliance has claimed that the annual shipment volume for PC hardware in 2009 was over double that for all home consoles combined.
The Horizons Hardware report, available only to PCGA members, expects this trend to continue. Having calculated the revenues from machines shipped with a discrete (ie non-integrated) GPU to be $54.6 billion (£3.44bn) in 2009, the organisation estimated this figure to grow to $61.3 billion (£3.86bn) by 2014.
"One of the biggest trends I'm seeing in the 2009 Horizon's hardware report indicates a strong demand for more capable mobile based systems by PC gamers," said PCGA research committee chairman Matt Ployhar.
"PC Gamers are playing a central role in fuelling healthier margins, and driving innovation in this space worldwide".
The revenue figures are based on the 61.5 million PCs which shipped last year which could be identified as having been purchased with gaming in mind.
The report estimates that there are currently 212.6 million PC users with a discrete graphics solution as part of their machine, a figure which the PCGA expects to climb to 322 million by 2014.
The PCGA is a non-profit organisation which aims to increase the market share and awareness of PC-based gaming.

The July browser market share reports are somewhat inconsistent, but if we believe StatCounter, then it looks like Firefox will be overtaking Microsoft IE's market share next month. The two browsers are both within 1 point of 40% market share, IE above and Firefox below. Europeans are more crazy about Firefox than Americans: In Germany, Firefox has a 61% market share, while IE has only 25%. Google Chrome is, according to StatCounter, now above 10%. ConceivablyTech has more details, including market share data from both StatCounter and Net Applications (which as of this month is limiting its free data).

Massively multiplayer online role-playing game Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning makes money and is here to stay, developer BioWare Mythic has insisted.
"Tens of thousands of players" join the game every month as part of the Endless Trial promotion that allows players to play for free, EA said.
In the run up to its release, Warhammer Online was billed as a World of Warcraft killer.
As of 30th September 2008, WAR, as it's known, had sold 1.2 million copies and had 800,000 registered users.
That number quickly dwindled, dropping to 750,000 a month later and over 300,000 a month after that.
In May 2009 EA said WAR had 300,000 subscribers.
Shortly after the number of servers running the game was drastically reduced in order to consolidate the player population, a move some viewed as evidence that WAR was in trouble.
EA-owned developer Mythic was then re-branded as BioWare Mythic, and began work rejuvenating the game.
"We're coming up to two years since the game was released," BioWare Mythic general manager Eugene Evans told Eurogamer in an interview.
"We're still running it. The game is profitable. We have a team that's engaged in it. We're seeing a great response from the community as they rediscover the game.
"When we launched we were up against the biggest competitor in the business, and arguably one of the biggest franchises in our business, with World of Warcraft. That was a huge challenge.
"We're far from giving up on the game. Here we are two years later, and despite all the naysayers we continue to improve.
"These games are not defined by the product you have at launch. They're defined by what you do with the game and how you respond to the community."
While Evans refused to divulge WAR's current subscriber numbers, he said the recently launched Endless Trial promotion is having the desired effect.
Endless Trial players are limited to Tier 1 of the Empire versus Chaos pairing, among other restrictions.
"We were able to present a new trial experience that gave people the time to discover what was great about the game," Evans said.
"They weren't worried about trying to discover that in 10 or 14 days.
"We're still getting tens of thousands of people a month coming through trying that experience."
Looking back, producer Carrie Gouskos admitted that Mythic tried to do too much with the game for launch.
"Maybe we attempted too much early on, making sure the player versus environment experience was as meaningful as the realm versus realm experience," she told Eurogamer.
"Right now, everything we're doing and where we're going and what the path of the game is, is focused on RVR. We know that's our strength. That's what our players who are playing right now want. And that's something we have a pretty good handle on.
"We know our strengths and we're playing up to those as best we can."
Eurogamer re-reviewed WAR in August last year and awarded it 7/10.

StarCraft II fans beware: there are fraudsters pretending to be Blizzard that want to steal your Battle.net account.
These people are referred to as "phishers" and they send authentic-looking emails promising a StarCraft II CD-key, according to Siliconera.
One specific scam creates a phony Battle.net log-in screen and directs you there from a step-by-step CD-key activation procedure in the email. Any usernames or passwords submitted will fall straight into the delicate-yet-dastardly hands of the scammers.
How to spot a fraud? Check you're on the Battle.net official URL when logging in, and always double-check the sender's email address for authenticity. By and large, Blizzard and Battle.net won't send many account-related emails.

Today Silverlode Interactive announced that its Fantasy Pirate game Captains of DarkTide (CoDT) has entered its open beta testing phase. DarkTide is a 3D Browser-based MMORPG for Mac and PC. For the first time, players who sign up at www.playdarktide.com will be granted instant access to this full featured strategy MMO.
Players who register today will be the first to experience new content and game features as they are released, including the upcoming release of PvP Zones. Players entering PvP zones will have their PvP flags automatically enabled, allowing for combat with other players. Loot chests with high-level rewards will periodically spawn throughout the PvP zones, allowing players who can survive the longest a chance to gather epic gear.
For PvE players, new zones will be enabled throughout beta, allowing captains to do battle with epic bosses; ships commanded by Liches who can drain the life force of your crew, gigantic Ice Elementals born from the massive icebergs floating at sea; the tougher the opponent, the greater the reward. By gathering components from the wreckage of defeated foes, players will be able to construct more powerful cannons and bribe creatures with epic abilities to join their crew.
Because CoDT is set in a fantasy universe, the variety of upcoming content is boundless. Dwarves construct air ships which players will acquire, while the elves build and sell living ships. Undead can be bound to crew a ship, but asking them to serve side-by-side with humans can have “undesired” effects. “We are thrilled with the game already,” said Silverlode president Jason Faller, “and we look forward to dazzling players with the many features we are going to soon reveal.”

Supermassive GamesTM today announces the fourth in a series of entertaining video trailers for Big Match Striker. This latest video illustrates the social and community aspects of the free-to-play PC download football game, scheduled for launch in late August.
The trailer focuses on one of the most exciting and key features of the game; the community, where Big Match Striker players can meet, challenge each other, set up their own leagues, chat, brag about their success and rub their mates’ noses in it!
The website, acting as the game’s entry point and the home of the game’s community, is www.bigmatchonline.com. The site is constantly updated with the latest news and gossip, keeping players up to speed with the real-life game, as well as encouraging passionate debate and discussion on the forums. Players can set up their own profiles and use the avatar creator to stamp their own personality on the site.
Players can invite their friends to join the game and set up their own leagues. What better way to settle those pub arguments over who’s the real football fan?
“Football is the ultimate social game, whether it's arguing with your mates over who knows most or shouting at the television pointing out the chap in the black may well have questionable parentage. What better way to prove just how much you know than setting up your own league, inviting your mates to join and showing them just who's boss?” commented Supermassive’s Online Publishing Director Geraint Orchard-Bungay
The exciting new title is highly competitive and will challenge all levels of football fans’ knowledge and strategic skills as they battle in one-on-one clashes to meet the game’s main objectives - to win titles and silverware, and attract more fans to their club. Players will need to combine all the skills of chairman, manager, player and fan as the title blends the best in football management strategy and animated trivia games.
The game is currently being tested in closed beta trial mode.

For the first time, players can create heroes, venture on quests, build and control a kingdom, and play every Hero Sim TM character in the land. Creativity will soar as players tell stories like never before full of drama, romance, conflict, and comedy.
“The Middle Ages is a time of intrigue, legend, and excitement.
