If, like me, you thought Microsoft would price Windows RT competitively, you were wrong: A leaked slide from Asus says that its Vivo Tab RT, due to be released alongside Windows RT at the end of October, will start at $600. Unbelievably, this is $100 more than the iPad 3, and a full $200 more than the iPad 2 or Galaxy Tab 2 10.1. For $600, you would expect some sensational hardware specs — but alas, that's sadly not the case. The Vivo Tab RT has a low-res 10.1-inch 1366×768 IPS display, quad-core Tegra 3 SoC, 2GB of RAM, NFC, 8-megapixel camera and that's about it. Like its Androidesque cousin, the Transformer, the Vivo Tab RT can be plugged into a keyboard/battery dock — but it'll cost you another $200 for the pleasure. (Curiously, the Transformer's docking station only costs $150 — go figure.)"

Silverball Studios, today launched a brand new free iOS app, to the iTunes app store, to flaunt the incredible technology that will be used when developing the games promised in their Pro Pinball ® Kickstarter campaign, launched on 5th September. Plus a new video update from Pat Lawlor discussing his new wacky ideas for the brand new table is available on the Kickstarter page.
A week after allowing a completely free PC and Mac download of the demo on the Kickstarter page, the team have now brought the demo to the iPhone and iPad; http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/pro-p...560525468?mt=8.
"The demo has been so well received and people are really getting excited about what they know we will achieve with these games if the Kickstarter project is a success. We wanted to make sure people really had a feel for the level of perfection we will realise on the formats closest to their hearts. Therefore, as of today, everyone can download the app from the app store, completely free." Said Adrian Barritt, CEO Silverball Studios.
In a further update to the project, Pinball legend Pat Lawlor; creator of the best selling pinball table of all time, The Addams Family, andthe highest rated pinball table of all time, The Twilight Zone, who is partnering with the Studio on this project, has released a personal video discussing his ideas for the new table he is set to create on to the Kickstarter page;http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...and-remastered
The table will be a completely new and unique design and is set to exceed, on a number of levels, pinball games to date. The game, which will be built using the Silverball Studio technology, described as the most realistic and flawless there is, and will be designed by arguably the best pinball game designer ever.
"The design process is different to anything before, I am able to design without the financial constraints and guidelines you have when making a physical table which will allow for some things that have not been possible before. However, I am designing this table in such a way that it could be made into a physical table. So no anti-gravity, just the most exciting table I have ever designed." Said Lawlor.
The video sees Lawlor in his studio at the start of the design process, he discussed his ideas for the theme, stating "Clowns, Robots and Zombies, all in the same game!" and calls for people to get behind the project and be in with a chance of helping decide on the theme themselves.
For those pledging over $100 the chance to vote on and influence the design ideas will be offered.

The Kickstarter’s fundraising goal is $75,000. It will fund a set of major new features for the game, as well as doubling the amount of content available for play.

We invite everybody to come see Conclave for themselves, play as much as they want, and see what’s got people excited. If they then decide to pledge, so much the better!”
Kickstarter rewards include full access to all new features and content, original game artwork painted by fantasy artist Chris Rahn, and autographed CDs of the soundtrack as composed by the award-winning Sam Hulick of Mass Effect 3 and Baldur’s Gate: Extended Edition fame.

Playable demo consists of 16 levels and is offered as a free download for PC and Mac. In addition to downloadable versions, this demo can also be played directly in a web browser.

Windows 8 tablets have had their specs bandied about for months, but their prices have continued to remain off the radar. Now, however, a purported ASUS holiday roadmap sent to ZDNet may give us a glimpse as to how badly bank accounts could be affected this fall. According to the slide, the ASUS Vivo Tab will carry a $799 price tag and its Windows RT counterpart will come in at $599, which matches the previously reported price difference between slates running Redmond's latest OS with Intel and AMD processors. The ASUS Taichi dual-screen notebook / tablet hybrid is said to ring up at a heftier $1,299. As for the firm's Transformer Book, it will supposedly set purchasers back $1,399. If these prices are any indication of what we can expect from other OEMs, Microsoft's Surface might be pricier than hoped

Microsoft CEO bullish on Windows 8 release
[h=3]Microsoft[/h]microsoft.com
Microsoft Chief Executive Officer Steve Ballmer has sung the praises of Windows 8, and admitted its R&D efforts aren't particularly "sexy", in a recent interview.
"Windows 8 is going to do great," he said in an interview with Seattle Times technology reporter Janet I Tu.
"I'm not paid to have doubts. I don't have any. It's a fantastic product... People talk about: "How healthy is the PC market?" There's going to be close to 400 million PCs sold in the next year, which makes it a big market. And whether it's 405 million or 395 million, it's a big market, and Windows 8 will propel that volume."
He also touched on Microsoft's R&D spend, compared to its marketing efforts.
"A lot of what we spend [on], and [where] we have a big business, [is] selling to enterprise customers. It's never going to be sexy," he admitted.
"Certainly on the consumer side, our R&D has really paid off in some ways. Kinect is a good example; what we've done with Xbox is a good example. Some of the innovations we see - certainly Windows 8, I think, is going to be a very, very good example... At the end of the day, I feel pretty good about our R&D and its return. Some of these things we signed up for, we knew there were long-term battles."
He also said you could see the "pattern of success" in Microsoft's gaming products.
"It usually is a powerful, innovative idea formed and driven by a powerful sort of team with great innovators and great executors ... followed up by an incredible kind of - I won't say marketing because it's really more about how you tell your story than just how loudly you tell it," he explained.
"Screaming loudly doesn't work very well in our industry. It really matters whether the product fundamentally captures people's imagination, and then you tell the story well around that. I certainly see Skype sort of on that path. ... We'll have to see whether Surface is a success or not because we haven't shipped any yet. But it certainly has the elements of success."
PC developers, including Valve's Gabe Newell, have expressed their concernsabout the "walled garden" approach of Windows 8. The OS is released on October 26
