ThreeGates today released a web-based version of the character creator from Legends of Aethereus, its forthcoming action Role-Playing Game (RPG). The lite version of the full character creator shows off some of the customization offered in the game and is available at: http://forum.threegates.se/index.php?topic=1054.0 The game is currently targeting an October release date with the full team focused on polish and tuning.
ThreeGates is currently a release candidate on Steam Greenlight™ (http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfile...s/?id=92957124) and anyone interested in eventually purchasing the game through Steam are encouraged to visit and vote if they want to see Legends of Aethereus on the platform. The game is being developed for Windows, Linux, and Mac operating systems and the studio is exploring a version for OUYA when the console launches in March 2013.
“The character creator is a web-based lite version of the full character creator,” said Don Geyer, CEO of ThreeGates. “It’s a nice showcase in a small package of what our character creator can do in the full game. We hope it gives our Kickstarter backers and Steam Greenlight supporters a sense of what character creation is like in the game and that is gets their imaginations going as to who they want to be in Aethereus.”

Firefly Studios, creators of the Stronghold series and free-to-play MMORTS Stronghold Kingdoms, are proud to announce the launch of the game’s sixth English-language game world.
‘World 6’ launched today at 11:00 AM BST in response to rising player numbers. This increase coincides with the launch of Kingdoms on several new platforms, including Amazon’s Game Connect and most recently Bigpoint. Recent additions to the game include a new Quests system and a prize-giving Quest Wheel, which proved instantly popular with players. Stronghold Kingdoms now has well over 1,000,000 registered users, running their kingdoms from more than 100 different countries. Firefly hopes World 6 will be the first of many new game worlds in 2012 and 2013.
To mark the occasion Firefly has also released the second in a series of Official Tutorial videos for Kingdoms, designed to help new players understand Resources Stashes and the art of Scouting.

Simulation-quality wave and water simulation has come to the Unity game engine today with Sundog Software's launch of Triton for Unity Pro. Triton enhances the realism of water-based games and simulations, such as ship simulators, by simulating thousands of waves at once on infinitely large oceans.
"Triton for Unity Pro is unique in that it uses the latest technologies, such as CUDA, OpenCL and DirectX 11 Compute Shaders to power its wave simulations," said Frank Kane, founder of Sundog Software. "The user's graphics card processes the wave simulation in parallel using Fast-Fourier Transforms, while our shaders compute accurate lighting on the water with proper reflections and refractions."
Triton for Unity Pro also includes particle-based spray effects when the simulated wind conditions increase, and ship wakes with 3D wave displacements and propeller backwash effects.
"All of Triton's water waves and wakes are based on a real physical simulation," continued Kane. "Customers such as the US Navy are using Triton to provide realistic water conditions for specific wind speeds and Beaufort scales." Triton also provides the ability to retrieve the height of the water at any point, making it useful for accurately simulating ships floating on the water.
Triton for Unity Pro supports standalone Windows applications developed with Unity. Triton is also available for other engines, including OpenSceneGraph, Ogre and custom engines developed with OpenGL or DirectX. Niko Partners, the leader in Asian Games Market Intelligence™, today released highlights from the company’sMid-year Analysis on China’s PC Online Games Market asserting that the emergence of demand for webgames (defined as hard-core browser based games, akin to those in the US by companies such as Kixeye and Kabam) has effectively increased the share of market revenue held by private game companies in China. Meanwhile the growth in online games services revenue of publicly traded online operators has slowed in relation to the overall market revenue. While the overall market grew 37% in 2012, the revenues of the large publicly traded online operators grew a slower, yet still respectable 26%. This could be because most of the public companies have line ups dominated by MMORPGs, whereas faster growth is coming from the other online games segments.
The exception is Tencent, whose advanced casual games (including MMOFPS and MOBA games) dominate the Top 5 in that segment. Tencent’s dominance in advanced casual games with titles such as League of Legends and Cross Firehas catapulted the company to take roughly half of the market share for PC online games in mainland China. Companies hoping to be competitive in China’s market should review Niko’s Monthly I-café Games Data as well as our market research studies to understand the dynamics in the market.
“For several years Niko has cautioned that the repetitive theme of cultural mythical history MMORPGs in China was beginning to bore gamers, and that new types of games would be necessary to revive waning demand for those games,” said Lisa Cosmas Hanson, managing partner of Niko Partners. “Now we can see from the data that it is a demand driven market and gamers, particularly those in their teens and twenties, are eager to try newer themes.” Niko’s senior analyst Kevin Hause added “In addition, Niko has witnessed that demand for mobile games has disrupted PC online games growth, particularly within the segments of casual and social games.”
Niko’s analysis comes from the company’s Monthly Chinese Internet Café Games Data service, ongoing Shanghai-based local research, and a review of the publicly traded companies’ financial statements from Q1 and Q2 2012. Niko offers market research for every budget by way of individual reports, consulting at an hourly rate, an annual subscription of 10 deliverables in the2012 China Games MarketResearch, and the Monthly I-café Games Dataservice. The August deliverable in the annual subscription was Niko’s Mid-Year 2012 Internet Café Games Usage Data Analysis, which is an excellent companion to the monthly I-café games data. The fourth season of S4 League, one of the most successful free-to-play action games in Europe, was launched today under the name of Alice. In addition to new game content, S4 League: Season 4 – Alice also introduces plenty of new gameplay features and improvements.
Hunt for highscores and more team spirit
Single and team players alike will discover new incentives in S4 League: Season 4 – Alice. Aside from the familiar player-versus-player (PvP) match rooms, there is now also an arcade room. Here, players will find the well-known story mode (scenario arcade mode) and the new mission arcade mode. Hitbox Team is proud to announce their indie hit Dustforce is now available DRM free on PC (Windows), Mac and Linux. The wargaming community can rejoice!!: market-leading publisher Slitherine and historical games developer NorbSoftDev have reached agreement to partner for the release of past and future games in the Scourge of War series of games. All games that are part of the franchise, including the main titleGettysburg and expansions Antietam and Pipe Creek will be releasing soon on both www.slitherine.com and www.matrixgames.com. The deal also includes the release of a brand new stand alone game, Chancellorsville, later this year.

By teaming up with AlienwareTM, AMD Gaming Evolved, Logitech, and Andrea Electronics, Reverb’s Ravaged Video Director’s Contest gives PC gamers the chance to play the Ravaged Beta and turn their gameplay into stunning “apocalyptic gaming cinema.” First-, second-, and third-place contest winners will score big-time by walking away with prizes ranging up to $3,000.

The two-week contest runs from 4 pm PST, Tuesday, September 18 to 12 pm PST, Tuesday, October 2, 2012. Here are the simple steps to enter:

· Make your video (between 1-1.5 minutes)
· Upload it to YouTube using your own account as “unpublished” (i.e. not public) and send the link to this email address:ravagedcontest@reverbinc.com

Indie developer 2 Dawn Games, comprised of veteran staff members who previously created top-tier titles Battlefield, Desert Combat, and Frontlines, have designed a pure PC online multiplayer game with Ravaged. The 32-person first-person shooter boasts heavy vehicular battles, air combat, and a competitive edge that elevates the game into the professional competitive arena.
Ravaged is rated “M” for mature due to the violent subject matter, and is not intended for younger audiences. Ravaged is due to ship this fall on PC.

This year, we had the great honor to have four students accepted by Google's Summer of Code to work on ScummVM:Jakimusha worked on a testing framework, Singron on improving our scalers by creating a plugin system, Somaen on the integration of the Wintermute engine in ScummVM, and Upthorn worked on improving our code for saving games.
The Wintermute engine has already been merged, and pull requests for the new testing framework and the new scaler plugin systems are currently being polished. While Upthorn's project didn't last the summer, we have a pull request which adds much-improved support for saving games to the composer engine.
The next and final step for this year of GSoC is the mentor summit, where ScummVM will be represented again by sev and Strangerke.
We'd like to thank once again Google for their organization, their support and for accepting us this year again. ScummVM made a great step forward thanks to them, once again!
We'd also like to warmly thank Jakimushka, Singron, Somaen and Upthorn for working this summer with us, with a special mention for Somaen who decided to keep working for ScummVM on Wintermute. We hope that some of the others might do so too!
