Here at Tripwire Interactive, we've always been huge supporters of community-made content and encouraged people to make their own content for our games. Not a big surprise really, when you remember we started out as a mod team! And now, to make all that content much more manageable, we are adding full Steam Workshop support to Killing Floor now AND Red Orchestra 2 very soon.
For the players, this means that you can find new content for your favorite Tripwire Interactive titles on the Steam Workshop. You will find a ton of community-made maps, mutators and mods of all kinds in there. More importantly, you can subscribe to content you like and be sure that you will always have the latest version as Steam Workshop will automatically download it for you and update it whenever the creator puts a new version in the Workshop. On top of that, it is the perfect place for feedback - rate pieces you try, create collections and share them with your friends. With all that functionaility, it is also perfect for the creators. When you create something, you can put it straight in front of the whole fanbase, get feedback, improve and update again. For example - all the maps entered for the $35,000 RO2 Counterattack Mapping Contest will be on the Workshop soon, so you can vote for your favorite.
To celebrate, we've also created a Tripwire Interactive game bundle - all of our games, starting from the very early days on Steam through to the current day. This means Red Orchestra 1 and 2, Killing Floor (with the DLC), The Ball and Dwarfs, all in one pack at the amazingly reasonable price of $59.99. And we're selling that at a 66% discount for the weekend - under $20 for all those games! Here is the link to the bundle: http://store.steampowered.com/sub/16835/
Here is the link for Killing Floor's Workshop home page: http://steamcommunity.com/workshop/browse?appid=1250

Blizzard is "looking at free-to-play as an option" for the game's multiplayer mode, StarCraft 2 Lead Designer Dustin Browder said at the Valencia eSports Congress panel.
The free-to-play model brought its share of concerns for Browder as well. "We don't know how we would monetize it," he said. "While it might be good fun for me to play against someone with only half the units available to them, that's not going to be an enjoyable experience for them."
Blizzard began rolling out beta invites for StarCraft 2: Heart of the Swarmearlier this month.

As promised, Microsoft is issuing a security patch for a Flash vulnerability on Windows 8 in Internet Explorer 10. Though the operating system has yet to see its official public release, researchers testing the RTM version found a bug that could cause Flash to crash and allow for attackers to take control of a user's machine. Additionally, the company is rolling out an update to address a security hole in Internet Explorer versions 7 and 8 on Windows XP -- and IE 9 on Windows 7 and Windows Vista -- which left the door open for hackers to spread malware via a specially designed Flash animation. Both security patches are available via Microsoft's Windows Update service.

Just give us a moment to extract ourselves form the mound of pinched salt that has enveloped us.
A report on French site Journaldugamer – as translated by OXM – makes a number of fascinating claims about the long-waited Valve sequel.
It claims that the project has endured a “very chaotic” development that has seen the game undergo a number of “total revisions”. The end result is that the once “pure shooter” has integrated puzzle-solving and exploration and takes the form of an open-world title complete with quests, NPCs and the works.
The most commonly accepted reason for the game’s protracted development cycle is that Valve is still struggling to iron out its new Source engine.
And – let’s be honest – it would be a quite a surprise if linear shooter masters Valve decided to take its most cherished IP down the sandbox route. But stranger things have happened.
In fact, the only part of the report we find convincing is the claim that Half-Life 3 will be released “after 2013”.

Nowadays if a PC version of a game is coming later than its console counterpart, the developer/publisher combo better have a damned good reason to provide the platform’s community.
Capcom appears to nailing it in the case of Resident Evil 6.
While the console version arrives next month, the PC port will be coming later – a move Capcom is making with care and purpose according to senior VP Christian Svensson.
"The process did not begin until after the console versions were complete, submitted, approved by console 1st parties to use that final codebase as the starting point," he said on the Capcom Unity forums.
Svensson added that it will still be some time before the company provides details on release dates and PC specs, but rest assured the final product will be of a much higher quality than the series past ports.
"Projects like this you guys seem to think are 'trivial' but they are not," he said. "When they get treated as trivial, you end up with Resident Evil 4 PC... which I don't think too many true fans were pleased with."

September 22nd, 2012, 21:58 Posted By: wraggster
Ubisoft showed off its download line-up at its Digital Days showcase in Paris earlier this month, and MCV caught up with worldwide director of online games Stephanie Perotti.
The publisher's digital boss shared with us the plan for the newly-relaunched UPlay downloads service, the ever-growing free-to-play sector, the promising eSports market and those all important mobile titles.
What plans do you have for the revamped UPlay? Will it just distribute Ubisoft, or will you offer third-party titles like EA Origin?
The plan for UPlay goes beyond digital distribution. We continue to evolve the service across all platforms, including PC, console and mobile. The more Ubisoft games you play, the more rewards you can get, as well as several online services that players would expect. On the digital distribution side, we remain open to opportunities. Right now, we’re starting the service with our own games, but as we go forward, we plan to potentially add other titles.
When the new UPlay app launched, your initial range of titles were available for just £1 each. Is there are danger that this can devalue your product?
That’s something we have to be careful about, but not something we see as a threat. This has been a one-time limited time promotion on some back-catalogue games. We would consider the pricing and promotion on UPlay in the same way we do with other partners and try to be as creative as we can on the promotional side without devaluing any of our games.
What effect do you think UPlay will have on your relationship with retailers? Will they see it as another online rival?
We don’t see that as competition. Retail is a very important part of our business and will continue to be so. Digital is complementary to that – you can already buy games from various digital distribution platforms, so it’s just another option we offer to consumer, not something to replace other options. We believe choice is important so the users and the players can decide where to shop for their games.
Earlier this month, you announced you were scrapping the controversial ‘always-on DRM’ in your PC titles. Do you think this protective measure has damaged Ubi reputation? What can be done?
It definitely created a lot of attention and feedback. We’ve listened to this feedback, to move away from that system. We want to prove to the PC community that we are still very committed. We have a lot of PC games [on the way], we’ve been supporting PC as a platform all along, and we intend to continue to create great games and great services for those players.
Are you still concerned about protecting your IP? How will you do so without this DRM?
We’re trying to find the right balance between protecting our IP and ensuring a great experience for our players. The way the system operates today, you still need to activate your game once when you first install it – that’s the standard way of doing things on PC – so that’s how we’re protecting our IP. We’re trying to balance that with less intrusive options.
Your Digital Days showcase featured several free-to-play games for PC. Do you think this model can work in the console space?
Actually, we have one game on XBLA and PSN that’s free-to-play: Spartacus Legends. We are looking at all evolutions of the market and the opportunities there are. So that’s going to be our first entry in the free to play market on consoles, and we’ll see how it goes.
One of the highlights was Mighty Quest for Epic Loot, a free-to-play title by Ubisoft Montreal. Is the fact that you have a flagship studio like this working on a F2P games a sign of how important the sector is to MCV?
I guess it is. It’s something we’ve always believed in – that whatever we do, we always have the same target in terms of quality and experience for the players. So it makes sense that all of our studios get involved in anything we are doing.
It’s also interesting that this came from the studio itself. The team had this great idea and its something that made a lot of sense for us.

Bloomberg has an interesting story about Microsoft's efforts to simultaneously woo younger workers and to get more apps into its Windows Store. Quoting: 'Microsoft, the world's largest software maker, designed Windows 8 for touch-screen technology included in the company's first tablet, Surface, and other devices coming this year. To gain share in tablets, a market expected by DisplaySearch to reach $66.4 billion in 2012, Microsoft needs enough apps to challenge the more than 200,000 available for iPad. Using student recruits is one way Microsoft can woo app developers who are used to building programs for mobile phones and tablets, where the company has little and no share, respectively. Luring programmers before graduation is particularly critical for recruitment in the U.S., which lags behind countries such as India and China in its ability to crank out qualified engineers.'"

With the “yay” speedy release of Dragon’s Call II (abbreviation as “DC II”), when some veteran players of Dragon’s Call (abbreviation as “DC”) are still living under a rock, DC II Open Beta Test is even slated to be launched on 22:00 Sept.25th (EDT), after this period of successful Closed Beta Test, game adjusted, bugs fixed and system improved, owed a lot to the enthusiastic participation by loyal players of DC, growing up with the official.
One of game journalists in Gamedp (http://www.gamedp.com/), Melisande questions the official’s behavior, thus arousing a heat debate in the gameforum. In her point of view, DC II is the same game with DC. “Is it even a sequel? Has the ‘story’ progressed? Or is this DCII more of a new and improved DC? Looks different, but the same? Like Diablo 1 and 2, there is a progression, yes? Specifically in terms of the storyline.”
For most Gamedp players, they are satisfied with DC, since it was born 3 years ago, and after the comparison and contrast between DC & DC II, actually, DC II is not a simple sequel. Rokkumon, the community manager of the game points out “Just because a storyline progresses doesn't mean it's literally a sequel.”
Players even argue about “Beginning of the End”, the slogan of DCII, which means DCII is another beginning of DC end. Some are disagree with the title. “Why not make it a separate one, another slogan and all, and let DC slowly descend into the abyss.” However, the truth is that, DC II based off all the base lore of DC even if with stuff added, new systems, and a different style of play in how the battle system and stuff like that.” Both do have the connection and disconnection, while the world is much more beautiful in DCII. But it does matter much that it is sequel or prequel.
Though the argument is still on, the official is moving on, and has announced the CBT end time is 10:00 pm Sept. 23th. Also, players who recharge during CBT could give 110% return but the server will be wiped before OBT kicks off.

The world of Pockie Ninja II Original isn't all about peace and tranquillity. Doomed, evil places are scattered throughout the land, the most evil being the the Valhalla sector of Devil City. Visiting Valhalla at night is not a feat for faint hearted ninjas, though it is a trip brimming with rewards for those bold and brave enough to tackle it.
9 Stages, 9 Bosses - Plenty of Death!
Valhalla at night is the newest dungeon to hit Pockie Ninja II Original. Each of the nine stages are guarded by viscous demon bosses, commanding armies of soldiers and possessed Naruto and Bleach characters ready to do their bidding. The nine stages are tough, but players well prepared for the battle will reap massive EXP rewards.
Stages increase in difficulty as ninjas progress, with higher and higher level requirements in place to protect players from attempting challenges too extreme for their characters. The easiest stage, "Endless Sea Forest", is available from lvl.26, while the most difficult, "The Judicial Island", requires lvl.106 to enter.
The harder the stage, the richer the rewards. Besides the EXP players earned from each stage, there will also be chances to win new rare equipment, outfits and special blades.
Solo Players Need Not Apply
Only teams of ninjas are accepted into Valhalla at night, which can be accessed a maximum of three times a day via the guards at the gates of Devil City. The punishing dungeon has a ban on potions - none are allowed. The only way to restore HP and Chakra is to rest. Players organise themselves on a character selection wheel and take it in turns to battle the demons of each stage; defeated players will be replaced by another until the end of the stage or everybody is dead.
Tactics play a siginifcant role in successfully navigating the multiple stages of Valhalla. Players must allow the weakened members of their team to rest for long as possible in order to guarantee victory.
Players unable to gather a team can choose their teammates from a lobby of solo players at the Valhalla entrance.

Launched late August, Chapter 3: The Royal Seven has flooded the world of Pockie Pirates with brand new islands, dangerous new adventures and powerful new crew members - as well as introducing a host of gameplay improvements.
Continuing the improvements is the newly added high reward Advanced Hunting System event – one of the the most intense forms of group PvP in the Pockie Pirates world. Available between 10:00 AM - 7:00 PM every day, pirates battle it out with each other across new hunting islands for a chance to win massive EXP and Bounty rewards.
Upon entering the Advanced Hunting Island, groups of pirates square off against one another for the right to hunt EXP rewards and wild beasts. Players are split into two affiliations - attackers and defenders. Each side must use their combined stats and skills to outwit one another in a constant on-going battle.
Winners are granted access to the defensive hunting team - a group of successful players who are allowed to automatically search the Hunting Island for massive bags of EXP and roaming beasts. When caught, wild beasts directly increase the winners overall bounty, which scales according to the level of each individual player on the team.
Pirates in the hunting team must defend their privilege to hunt against new challengers. The defending team remains in place until all of their resources are spent.

A new threat is stirring to the east of Taborea. Gameforge is expanding the online world of Runes of Magic with a completely new region, Chrysalia, in the coming week. Thundering waterfalls, bubbling pools of lava, and huge ant-built structures will greet new adventurers, replete with never before seen foes, plenty of new quests and a highly demanding instance. This ancient land and native home to the true dragons is currently being plagued by the Kulech, a clan of exceedingly aggressive ant creatures. The new flythrough video will give a first impression of the imposing landscape which adventurers can explore starting as of the 25th of September.
Chrysalia lies on the coast of the continent of Kolydia. The tempestuous storms across the ocean make their presence known in the coves of the region as a dusty and driving wind, shaking the bridges constructed by the allies to connect the disparate cave systems. The force of the four elements has shaped the land since time immemorial, and has created a host of perilous anomalies. This region is inhabited by two different types of ant-like Myrmex. The Garon are the more peaceable of the two races and, in a nod to symbiotic development, their counterparts the Kulech are belligerent and hostile.
On the itinerary for budding adventurers are also the more secluded corners of Chrysalia, such as the Edliss Ruins to the south, the Bloody Battlefield and the Kulech Bones Nest – the new instance. Fierce battle awaits against the Queen of the Myrmex, which will mark out the true heroes from the rest.
