InnoGames is close to implementing the Colonial Age into the new browser game Forge of Empires. With the new age, players will be able to travel beyond the Late Middle Ages – the current end of the game. This new version is planned to go live in about two weeks. Players can already test it on beta.forgeofempires.com.
The new era not only offers new technologies, units and buildings, but players also face 54 new story quests as well as revolutionary threats towards their kingdoms. Amongst others things, the Colonial Age includes technologies and achievements like artillery, fashion, imperialism as well as the first industrial goods. Province leaders are named close to important historical figures, like Louis XXI or Sophie Antoinette and players will have to ward off pirates. InnoGames is already working on later eras that will bring the game up to the current age and beyond.
Forge of Empires is a browser-based strategy game, where players, tasked with leading their own city to prosperity can research new technologies, build impressive historical buildings and enlarge their sphere of influence through military campaigns and skillful dealing. With nearly four million registrations within five months, the game has been the most successful start in the InnoGames history.
With about 90 million registered players, InnoGames is one of the world's leading developers and providers of online games. The Hamburg-based company has scored major successes with games such as Tribal Wars, The West and Grepolis.

SG Interactive, a leading North American free-to-play game publisher, announced today that Pangya: Tomahawk players can return to the magical floating island of The Grand Zodiac with this week’s launch of The Second Journey update. Returning from this summer’s Pangya Global Cup Tournament Challenge, the Grand Zodiac challenges gamers to make hole-in-one shots from high above the world of Pangya. During the launch of The Second Journey, players will have a chance to earn their own pair of Obsidian Guardian Wings, an exclusive new item that increases the chance at performing a perfect Pangya swing.
Along with the island’s return, The Second Journey update also brings a new way to play: Hole Repeat Mode. Now players have the choice between either playing an 18-hole round or playing a specific hole multiple times, to better improve their skills.
“The hole-in-one game that we introduced with The Grand Zodiac back in June was extremely popular, and since the Tournament Challenge ended, players have been requesting it back” said Joan Kim, Pangya producer for SG Interactive. “So what better way to welcome the fall season with its return, along with a new play mode, new items and what may be our best prize ever in the form of the Obsidian Guardian Wings. ”
Available in this week’s content update, The Second Journey also includes two new in-game items players can enjoy on their favorite courses. Joining the Self Design Shirt and Skirt, the new Self Design Dress offers gamers a blank canvas that they can express their creativity on, and ultimately wear on their in-game avatar. The new Club Card Patcher adds even more customization for players, allowing them to alter in-game statistics instantly, on clothing or can even be slotted into their favorite clubs. And with the increased gains on experience, players can reach the next level of play faster than ever.
Players can find more about The Second Journey and the Hole in One event by visiting the following link.

High-PPI displays are becoming increasingly popular on tablets and notebooks, but Windows 8 may not be ready for them. On a 13" notebook display with a 1080p resolution, the RTM version of Win8 scales up some desktop UI elements nicely. However, there are serious issues with Metro, which produces tiles and text that are either too small or too large depending on the PPI setting used. That setting, by the way, is a simple on/off switch that tells the OS to 'make everything bigger.' Web browsing is particularly problematic, with Internet Explorer 10 introducing ugly rendering artifacts when scaling pages in both Metro and desktop modes. Clearly, there's work to be done on the OS side to properly support higher pixel densities.

Gartner has stated that Microsoft is taking a big risk with the forthcoming releases of Windows 8 and Office.
In fact, the analyst praised Microsoft for its strategy of trying to maintain relevance in a market that is increasingly moving towards new form factors and user experiences.
“When the PC dominated personal computing by providing a single device for messaging, Internet access, gaming and productivity, Windows was a powerhouse for Microsoft,” commented Gartner’s vice president, Michael Silver.
“However, smartphones and tablets, led by the iPhone and iPad, have changed the way people work, making the PC just one of several devices people use. The PC is increasingly simply a peer with other devices.”
Gartner cites a number of reasons why the new OS is a risk, chief among them is the introduction of the Metro UI – while it would provide an optimum environment for tablet and hybrid users, it could be less appropriate on desktops and laptops, which still constitute the majority of the PC market.
Nonetheless, if the operating system is successful then Gartner feels it will change the face of the PC industry.
“Windows 8 is not your normal low or even high impact major release of the OS,” added Garter’s research vice president, Steve Klaynhans.
“It's the start of a new era for Microsoft — the RT era — which follows the NT era, which began in 1993 and is just now starting to fade out. Microsoft eras seem to run about 20 years, so the technology underlying Windows 8 will last a long, long time.”

The big day is here! After three years of furious development, we are almost at the finishing line.
Miner Wars 2081 has left ALPHA phase and is now officially in BETA. This is an exciting time! We've currently packed in 31 missions, which is about 10-15 hours of straight game play, but could take you much longer considering the free-roaming / sandbox gameplay, in-game editor and multi-player!
Only first 6 missions are dubbed and tested by our team. Remaining missions are in the process.
This update will be only for customers who pre-ordered the game. We're disclosing much of the game content in this update. It's no longer a technological demo; it's got those things you've been waiting to sink your teeth into, and now is the time to give us those last golden ideas...
We haven't forgotten about multiplayer code, we have polished many facets of our networking to include: merchants, mining, drilling, turret, terminal scripts, and over 50 weapons! There are 15 default death-match sectors ready to choose from and you can always build your own death-match sectors in the in-game editor.
We have also added a Hall of Fame death-match sector with banners of our Community Contributors! We wanted to show a little thanks to those who believed in us before we got rolling.
To top it all off, we're introducing Co-op gameplay! And it's not just 2-player, or even 4-player Co-op, but up to 16 players! Check this new video giving a taste of Co-op from the fifth mission: http://www.youtube.com/user/MinerWars
This closed beta will showcase most of the end-game material since the game is almost done. That means it’s feature complete, so the only thing left is bug-fixing, balancing and polishing. If you think something important is missing or doesn’t work well, let us know ASAP. Thanks.

Lucius, the shocking new horror adventure game from cutting edge developer, Shiver Games and Publisher Lace Mamba Global, is moving ever closer to release. Today Lace Mamba Global reveals the true horror of this unique gaming experience with new screenshots and Intro trailer.
His childish innocence wasn’t meant to last long, oh no!
When darling little Lucius was born on the meaningful date of June 6th, 1966, nobody expected him to be anything other than a normal little boy. His childhood, spent in the luxurious manor on the private estate of his father, a US Governor, was as normal as every kid’s young years .....Well, except for the extreme wealth of his parents, as Lucius grew up with everything he desired, including several maids, the family’s own butcher and Lucius’ private teacher.
But everything changed when Lucius turned 6. His real father, the Devil, appeared in his dreams the night of his birthday, revealing that Lucius was his son.
Through Lucius the beast was back on earth. And so, it is now Lucius’ task to accomplish the missions of Evil and gain control of the world. But firstly he needs to get rid of all his family members and service staff at the manor, one horrible, devious and painful death at a time in order to be able to make their wealth and powers his.
Equipped with supernatural powers, Lucius starts off on a blood-flooding tour of horror through Dante Manor, using hell’s powers of telekinesis and mind control to orchestrate deadly accidents that will minimize the population of the manor slowly but surely …
Lucius is a new, upcoming 3D horror adventure. Players will have to orchestrate deadly accidents, using items, tools and hell’s powers such as Telekinesis and Mind Control. By combining classic adventure gameplay with the freedom of a 3D world, players will have to use their wits and follow hints to make sure they don’t leave any marks and can continue their evil mission until the very end.
Lucius is developed by Shiver Games in Helsinki, will emerge directly from hell to retail and all major digital platforms including Steam on October 26th, 2012 with a recommended retail price of £19.99.

Otherwind is actively seeking investors through the Kickstarter program for its new Social RPG.
Otherwind is currently seeking crowd funding for its new social role-playing game (RPG), Guild Masters. The company has already invested $55,000 and is now seeking an additional $8,000 to support the developers for a further two months as they bring the project to completion. Investors will receive game currency in direct relation to the amount of their pledge, along with a host of other benefits.
The company is working through Kickstarter.com to raise funds through pledges from individuals interested in participating in this revolutionary RPG. The creators feel the new game will stand out from the strong competition on the social gaming market.
“Guild Masters is like a breath of fresh air in the social gaming market compared with all those cloned games out there,” says creator Alex Martin. “We are developing a totally new type of game with new concepts, which emphasize the social aspect of the game over the game mechanic itself. From the beginning, we wanted to bring new ideas and creativity to the social games market.”
The four major guilds of Guild Masters represent the professions or character classes available in most RPGs: the Guild of Fighters, the Guild of Scouts, the Guild of Priests and the Guild of Wizards. As a player, you choose your guild at the beginning of the game, which you enter as an apprentice. The goal is to move up in the ranks by learning from your master –chosen among players of the same guild, – developing the skills of your profession, gaining experience that will enhance your character, and gathering followers –other players from your guild who choose you as a master. – Your followers help you to develop new research skills and spells, increase your power, and give you the political strength necessary to move forward and climb through the ranks to become the Guild Master.
Players can also complete quests for treasure and magic items; quests can be pursued alone or in groups of up to six other players who share the risks and rewards. Venturing outside the safety of the city to pursue a quest is dangerous, laying you open to attack from other groups; however, you can also pursue and ambush others.
The game is currently in the final stages of development and simply needs some additional funding to get it launched. Investors can choose pledges of any amount but benefits are cumulative so that larger pledges offer rewards that include such benefits as game equipment for your character, and insignia on your Guild Master profile, identifying you as a benefactor - both available for a $50 pledge.
Closing date for pledges is October 21, 2012 at 10:39 pm Eastern Time. The project will be funded if the minimum goal of $8,000 has been reached by this time. Should the minimum goal be exceeded, the company will use the extra funds to support further development, employing extra illustrators or purchasing Facebook ads to attract more first-time players.
Otherwind keep all fans updated on Facebook at the Guild Masters fan-page, where the game has attracted more than 8,300 fans, and at the forums which they manage at their website.

AT New Media - licensing agent for smash-hit app brand Hungry Shark – has announced details of a new agreement that will let fans send personalised Hungry Shark mobile messages.
Hungry Shark has taken the digital world by storm – the hugely addictive game sees players taking the role of a shark as it attempts to become the biggest and baddest predator in the sea by eating up everything in its way! The app has built up a massive worldwide following with 35m downloads recorded via iOS and Android over the last two years. New content is released regularly and the Hungry Shark pantheon includes Parts 1, 2 and 3 as well as a trilogy of all three games for iPad that can be hooked up to HDTV; Part 1 has been the No.1 free app in 48 countries and Part 2 has hit the top spot for paid apps in 17 countries. Fans are currently waiting with baited breath for the impending release of new game Hungry Shark Evolution.
Mishme will be tapping into the game’s global fan base with its messaging service app for Android and iOS and its most recent Facebook app, all of which allows users to send friends and family animated mobile messages and tweets and Facebook posts that are brought to digital life by an avatar of the game’s Great White character….and a few other partially digested avatars. Launch will tie in with the release of Hungry Shark Evolution. The Mishme team has very much enjoyed getting its teeth into this brand, Steve Wright and J. Easterby-Wood from Mishme commented, “It’s a fun edgy brand with a whole lot of bite, and perfect for next generation communication technology apps”.
This latest deal adds to an existing agreement with Battle Ant for Hungry Shark plush, whilst AT New Media is also looking to work with partners across sectors such as collectibles, plush, and resin figures that are interested in creating products based on the game’s innovative and distinctive range of shark characters.
“We are delighted to have Mishme on board,” says Simon Kay of AT New Media, “mobile messaging is a fantastic use of the license and illustrates the strength of the Hungry Shark brand. It is a hugely addictive game that has built up a very strong fanbase in a short time and also features a range of fantastic characters, two attributes that make the property extremely attractive from a licensing point of view.”
