Team Cooper has developed their first game for the BBC, creating an online accompaniment to Dick and Dom’s Hoopla for the CBBC website. Hoopla is the latest series from CBBC’s legendary duo Dick and Dom, featuring a raucous circus of games, rides and special guests.
Team Cooper’s game features a colourful array of stalls, each with their own zany take on classic fairground attractions: Dunk Dick and Dom with sticky stuff in Snot Shot. Navigate your claw through the traps to grab the right prizes in Grabby Grab. Try and make the characters riding wobbly crockery throw up in Plate Sick Spin. And knock the pesky Clown Kids down a duck or two in our Duck Down shooting gallery!
Each game features a shared keyboard option so audiences can play with (or against) their friends then save their scores using their CBBC ID. Audiences earn tokens as they play the game which can then be spent on daft prizes at the Hoopla prize stall. Amazing feats of gameplay also unlock special achievements which get recorded in players’ own personal hall of fame! The games also feature animated versions of Dick and Dom; voiced by the duo themselves.
Emma Cooper, digital production director at Team Cooper, said: “I’m so proud of what the team has produced I think the games are loads of fun. This is our first big commission from the BBC and we’ve really relished the challenge of finding ways to torment Dick and Dom. Dick and Dom and the Hoopla team have a point of view and approach that is very similar to our own and working with the CBBC team has been great fun.”
The CBBC’s Digital Production Team on this project are Mark Owen, Aidan Castelli, Sophie Bradshaw, Claire Miller and Will Storer.
Dick and Dom’s Hoopla was filmed at Dingles Fairground Heritage Centre in Devon – a 45,000 square foot indoor attraction that houses the National Fairground Collection filled with vintage fairground exhibits, rides and displays.

Strategoria is a new browser MMO strategy game from Amber Games, developed in the best traditions of the Age of Empires and Total War. Templar Knight, Barbarian, Mongolian Archer, Norman Spearman meet you on the main page, inviting you to join them in the pragmatic, cruel, but somehow romantic, world of the Middle Ages, where war is the only true reality.
Reality is the key word to understand Strategoria. Fast-paced environment makes advantage in numbers vanish if you lose in strategy and tactics. There's no other battlefield, than the one you build yourself. Tactics and Construction are united on one map. If you create your kingdom as an ever-green place - it will be hard for archers and cavalry to attack you, because their effectiveness wanes in the forest. If you manage to build a stone reinforcement during the battle you can entrap your enemy, and guarantee a success.
Strategoria has classical PvP mechanics. You won't have a chance to sit peacefully guarding your gold, or chopping your wood. Resources are always on shortage. But your neighbour always has a few. He can share if you make a deal, or you can take them by force. It's for you to decide whether a word or a sword is your strongest weapon. Find new friends to create alliances and strike enemies with all your might.
Sign up for the Closed Beta and start building the Kingdom of your own on October 8th. Try the game, share your ingame experience with developers, and who knows, your comment might be crutial to make Strategoria a new hit.

October. 2012: Xylem and Phloem LLC is proud to announce Isopod: The Roly Poly Science Game, for the iPad. While many insect games exist urging the player to squash and kill every creature in site, Isopod: The Roly Poly Science Game requires the player to do just the opposite. In fact, it actually teaches about protection of biodiversity as you save endangered insects and other notabley facinating arthropods.
The game uses these creepy crawly critters as a starting point to explain a very big concept: Biodiversity is a simple measurement by which we can evaluate the health of our planet. While the idea is certainly not new, creating a fast-paced, tilt-physics controlled game experience on the iPad most definitely is, and Isopod is being received with rave reviews.

After a few months of silence, BeerDeer games released their first video teaser video for “ Nyrthos,“ an upcoming 2D isometric action RPG for web browsers, Anroid and iOS. Watch it here:
Nyrthos has also lauched pre-ordres; at this time for a special starting price – 9.99 USD. Pre-ordering will grant you access to the Alpha version of the game, which is scheduled to go live on the 31st October. So if you want to be one of the first people to enter the world of Nyrthos and try and test out the game along with wanting to support the developers, definitely check it out!
WHAT IS NYRTHOS?
At the heart of Nyrthos is an ARPG, but with a lot of other elements.
Not only are the screenshots similar, but Nyrthos also draws a lot of influence from the Diablo and Gothic series. Killing monsters, leveling, learning new skills, abilities and looting is the core of the game.
We are also borrowing mechanics from other genres, and trying to make them work in our world. You will be able to build certain structures, manage resources and do other stuff quite uncommon in RPGs.
One of our key goals is to create an ”expanding world.“ We would like to develop the game world and craft the story together with our players based off of their votes and actions. Though this might prove to be a near impossible task, we are very excited to sail into these waters.
Nyrthos also features a day, night and weather cycle that strongly impacts the game world; simply put, the night is very dark and deadly, so many actions have to be performed during the day. The cycle influences enemies, spawnable items, resources, events, and other stuff.
PREORDERS AND ALPHA VERSION
The alpha will start on PC and MAC, and will possibly spread to other platforms.
Right now, we are somewhere in between. Not quite at the release point yet, but too far to keep the game for our own eyes. People kept requesting some form of an early access, so we decided to give it a go. And why not? Some players just want to play the finished product, but today, there are also many players that enjoy this as a part of their gaming experience; they like to watch the game grow and they like to be a part of its history from the very beginning. These are our offer ’ s target.

The American Dental Association® (ADA) and PopCap Games today announced a new tendril of their recently launched “Stop Zombie Mouth” campaign: beginning today, a limited run of one million packs of trading cards featuring characters from PopCap’s hit game Plants vs. Zombies™ is being distributed via thousands of participating dentists nationwide. Each card pack also includes a coupon redeemable for a free copy of the full PC/Mac edition of the game. The game coupons can also be downloaded for free from the campaign website,www.stopzombiemouth.com, which added a wealth of fun new content today, from Halloween decorations and kids’ activity pages to a themed music video, fun facts and much more.
The Stop Zombie Mouth campaign also announced that it now has the support of Margo Wootan, Director of Nutrition Policy at the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI). “Changing eating habits among children is one of the most important yet difficult challenges that parents face today,” Ms. Wootan said. “The ADA and PopCap Games have come up with a fun, clever, and compelling approach that should appeal to young trick-or-treaters this Halloween. This campaign will help children recognize the relationship between healthy eating and healthy teeth, and provide one of the coolest alternatives to sugary snacks yet.”
Announced earlier this month, the “Stop Zombie Mouth” campaign will continue through Halloween, and provides parents, dentists and other adults with trading cards and coupons redeemable for entirely free copies of PopCap’s family friendly hit video game, Plants vs. Zombies, which can be given away to trick-or-treaters as a tooth-friendly alternative to candy. In just two weeks, thousands of ADA member dentists nationwide have ordered Stop Zombie Mouth kits to outfit their offices with the campaign theme and provide free collectible Plants vs. Zombies trading cards and game coupons to their patients. Other components of the campaign scheduled for next month include a public service announcement airing nationwide on more than 100 radio stations, a press conference in New York City and more.
The limited edition trading cards feature 45 different zombie types (including some not found in any editions of the game) and 5 new characters created specifically for the campaign who represent the germs found in a zombie’s mouth. Each pack holds five cards, including one card with the URL and redemption code to obtain a free copy of Plants vs. Zombies for PC or Mac computers. In addition, there are two mystery puzzles that can be built with specific subsets of the trading cards. The campaign music video, also launched today, features new and existing characters and is exactly two minutes long – so it can be used as a timer for brushing one’s teeth for the recommended length of time.
Currently, parents and other adults who host trick-or-treating children on Halloween can obtain the free trading cards only at participating ADA member dentists nationwide; at a later date, the trading cards may become available to consumers through additional channels. The free game redemption coupons can also be downloaded directly from www.stopzombiemouth.com. The coupons, trading cards and other themed materials are designed to raise awareness of the importance of kids’ oral health as well as provide a fun alternative to sugary treats on Halloween night.

The Creative Assembly, has launched the Total War™: SHOGUN 2 Assembly Kit; a suite of tools that enables ground-up modification of the entire Total War™: SHOGUN 2 product family. This release also includes an update to TEd (the existing Battle Map Editor), which enables Steam Workshop integration and the ability to create scripted single-player historical battles. A sample historical battle, custom-built by The Creative Assembly, is available now on Steamworks to give new modders a convenient starting point.
With the Assembly Kit installed, modders are empowered to reimagine almost every aspect of Total War™: SHOGUN 2, and with its built-in Mod Manager, mods can be uploaded to Steam Workshop for other players to download, play and rate.
To mark this massive release, Steam will be running a Total War Weekend from Thursday 27th September to Sunday 30th September. Keep a look out for some huge offers and exclusive content.
“Total War has a dedicated mod scene with some truly heroic modders wrestling with a gigantic game and turning out some incredible work,” said Rob Bartholomew, Brand Director. ”Until now though there’s never been a useful set of tools that really opened up the possibilities in the game the way we knew they wanted. However, while we gear up for Rome II’s release next year, I’m happy to say that the team were able pull out all the stops and put together a kit we hope will really inspire them.”
Further Detail on the Assembly Kit
Just like TEd, the Assembly Kit is completely free and available to download now from the Tools section of the Steam client. It comprises a range of powerful utilities:
· TWeak is a software framework that contains two key plugins for Total War modding:
o DaVE, The Database Visual Editor tool, enables modders to edit any database values in the game, including those which dictate campaign map start positions, game logic, unit values and much more.
o The Unit Editor tool enables modders to alter the look and feel of existing units and create new ones, with custom skins, armour, helmets etc.
· BOB is a data-processing tool, which enables modders to process models, animations, textures and many other assets into a game-usable form.
· The Mod Manager enables modders to upload their mods to Steam Workshop.
The Total War™: SHOGUN 2 Assembly Kit comes preloaded with example data, comprising buildings, units, maps and more, along with a number of 3D Studio Max plugins and scripts to help modders create custom models.

Xi3 has been one of the more inventive PC builders in the field, designing its Modular Computers in the belief that small, more upgradable desktops are the way of the future. The company is planning two new systems to further that dream, the X3A and X7A, but it wants our help: it's running a Kickstarter funding drive until October 28th to assist the development and garner some early adopters. Put down $503 or $603 and you'll get the entry-level X3A, a dual-core 1.65GHz (likely AMD E-450-based) PC with 4GB of RAM, a 32GB SSD and either Linux or Windows installed; splurge with $1,103 or more and you'll get the more performance-driven X7A, which jumps to a quad-core chip with a 3.2GHz peak speed, a Windows-loaded 64GB SSD and faster graphics. Assuming Xi3 makes its target, we should see the X3A and X7A arrive in January and February respectively, with Kickstarter supporters beating the larger herd by a week. Even existing owners are accounted for through a Primary I/O Board upgrade, due before the end of this year, that carries more Ethernet and USB 3.0 ports. Crowdfunding is an unusual approach to buying that next PC, without the certainties of shopping at an online store -- but we're also dealing with an unusual PC from the get-go.

Maingear certainly loves to turn out solidly specificated hardware, and today is no exception. Its latest offering? The Nomad 17. As the name suggests this is a 17-inch notebook for gamers on the go. (Nomad, get it?) The new addition will support third-gen Intel Core i7 chips (up to 3.8GHz) and a maximum 32GB of RAM, with a choice of hard drive configurations. It's not all about the under-the-hood grunt, though, with Maingear offering a choice of six colors for what it's calling "hand-painted premium automotive paint jobs." As for the other spec options? You can expect NVIDIA GeForce GTX 675M or 680M graphics, a 1,920 x 1080 display, combo Blue-ray optical drive, b / g / n wireless along with USB 2 / 3, DVI-I, HDMI and Fire Wire ports. So, this definitely sounds like a ride you can make your own. Assuming you're good with the $1,599 starting sticker price that is.

Lazard Capital estimates 600-700k copies of expansion sold at retail, down 60 percent from previous add-on
Blizzard launched World of Warcraft's latest expansion, Mists of Pandaria, this week, but one analyst believes the fourth expansion for the MMORPG has been falling short of its lineage. Lazard Capital Markets toldVentureBeat that the firm estimates Mists of Pandaria sold between 600,000 and 700,000 copies at retailers since its launch on Tuesday.
While that figure doesn't take into account downloadable Mists of Pandaria purchases, Lazard analyst Atul Bagga told the site digitally distributed copies likely won't compensate for the estimated 60 percent drop in physical sales from the last expansion, 2010's Cataclysm. The week after Cataclysm launched, Blizzard announced that between retail packages and downloads, the game sold 3.3 million copies in its first 24 hours. The second expansion, 2008's Wrath of the Lich King, sold 2.8 million copies in its first day on sale, while the original World of Warcraft add-on, 2007's The Burning Crusade, notched 2.4 million sales.
World of Warcraft has been the undisputed king of subscription-based MMORPGs almost from the start of its eight-year run, but the game has run into some resistance lately. At its peak in 2010, World of Warcraft topped 12 million active subscribers. However, since then the number has trended downward and as of last month had fallen to 9.1 million. At the time, Blizzard president Mike Morhaime said such a drop was to be expected near the end of an expansion cycle, and pinned some of the blame on the company's Diablo III launch drawing players away from World of Warcraft.
While many of its competitors have moved from subscription to free-to-play models as they faced adversity in the market, Blizzard has been resistant to making the switch with World of Warcraft. Instead, the company lets players try the game for free, but halts their progress at level 20.

Greater diversity and regionalisation are the biggest trends on Facebook, says the social network's director of game partnerships, Sean Ryan.
Ryan took his post in January 2011, where he oversees a team dedicated to supporting and advising developers on how best to take advantages of the platform and prepare for changes.
The company has a vested interest in the success of its game developers, as in just a few years they have become on of its single greatest sources of revenue.
With mobile now the fastest growing component of the market, Facebook is trying to keep up- and keep developers on board.
But Ryan says that the rise of mobile is just part of the changing times, and shifts in Facebook gaming are best exemplified by the growing trends of regionalisation and diversification.

Day Z creator Dean Hall has a real sense of urgency when it comes to getting a standalone version of his popular ArmA II mod into players’ hands.
Speaking duing a panel at Eurogamer Expo, Hall revealed that it isn’t a question of wanting to get the game into players hands this year, it’s needing to get it to them before any major momentum is lost.
"It has to be out before the end of the year," Hall said. "Not just because we've committed to it but in order to achieve what we have to do. It has to be. There's no 'we hope it is'; it has to be. And it's going to be cheap. We've decided that we don't need to sell a heap of units in order for us to be OK with where it's going. The more units we sell of it the more ambitious we get, because the project has the better resources.
"I like to think we're taking cautious and sensible steps at the moment. I don't really like cautious and sensible. DayZ as a mod wasn't cautious and sensible. But our first few steps have to be that. And if we can achieve that in December, then in January and February we can start to do all the cool stuff, move to more ambitious features."
When questioned specifically about similar titles, such as The War Z, Hall declined the offer to bash away instead focusing on what his team needs to do to deliver a successful product.
"Obviously you feel lots of things, and a lot of your feelings aren't legitimate. I feel like eating ice-cream all the time; it doesn't mean that I'm going to eat ice-cream all the time. So maybe it's natural to get upset, jealous, scared - those kind of things. I definitely think all of those things.
"Maybe they will make a better game - I don't know. Maybe what they're doing is not cool to me, but the way I look at it is what are my options? What could I do? I could stand up here and be very critical of anyone who does a clone copy of the game. What would that actually achieve other than making me look like a dick? It's not going to result in a better game.
“Should I sue anyone who ever mentions something to do with zombie horror - will that make a better game? And the whole premise of of DayZ, and the whole premise of our development is we're going to make an awesome game. That's what we're selling. We're going to price it low and lots of people are going to play it. If we compromise on that, we're screwed."
A low price tag and a playable alpha version out in less than three months’ time; why that’s so crazy it just might work.
Day Z is currently available as a freely downloadable mod for owners of ArmA II: Combined Operations.
