The ROG GX700 from ASUS is the world’s first water-cooled gaming laptop and was shown off for the first time at IFA 2015. ASUS says the laptop delivers stable, super-fast performance, and like the G752, the GX700 features the new ROG colour scheme.
It is powered by a 6th-generation Intel K-SKU processor (which can be overclocked), with the latest Nvidia graphics processing unit for better gaming.
Gamers can enjoy 4K/UHD on the 17-inch 4K/UHD in-plane switching (IPS) display. ASUS also showed off the VivoStick PC on a stick, the RT-AC5300 Wi-Fi router, Zen AiO S 4K all-in-one PC and the ZenPad eight-inch tablet.

EA is looking into ‘any and all opportunities’ to develop software for Nintendo’s upcoming new hardware, the NX.
That’s according to the publisher’s CEO Andrew Wilson, who was asked during a recent investor call whether EA plans on supporting NX.
This comes after EA has all but abandoned Nintendo’s Wii U platform, which launched in 2012.
In May 2013, the firm boasted a ‘strong partnership with Nintendo’, despite some of its games not arriving on the platform. Later it was revealed that no EA titles were in development for Wii U.
Then at the start of 2014, a source speaking with CVG said that ‘Nintendo was dead to EA very quickly’ shortly after the Wii U’s release.
But going forwards, things could well be different.
"As we look to the future, we see a world where more people are playing on more platforms in more geographies than ever before," Wilson said.
“We see the platform cycle now not just as a traditional six-year console cycle, but as kind of a six-month refresh rate on mobile devices, smart TVs, Internet-enabled refrigerators, or whatever it might be.
"And what we're doing in terms of resource allocation is really investing at a core digital platform level, at an engine level, and at a game architecture level to ensure that we are able to deliver amazing experiences, six inches to 60 inches and beyond, two minutes to two-hour session times and beyond, across any and all relevant devices where gamers are playing.
“As it relates to Nintendo, we've had a tremendous relationship with them over the years. And we will evaluate any and all opportunities with them in the same way we do all platform opportunities."
Nintendo recently started distributing NX development kits. A report in the Wall Street Journal suggests the console could be hitting stores in 2016.

The Windows Store isn't exactly known for being a robust app marketplace, and Microsoft knows it. The company is always looking for new ways to attract developers to the platform. In the past, Microsoft made tools designed to port iOS and Android apps to Windows, and created the Universal app system that puts all Windows apps on the same platform. Now, Microsoft has updated itsApp Studio to allow users to create, prototype and submit an app for release from the comfort of a web browser -- without installing Visual Studio or writing a single line of code. It works, too: I just created a functional Windows 10 app in less than ten minutes.

Antivirus and malware protection programs are great, but they have a fatal flaw: they can only protect your PC from threats they know about. It's not a terrible problem, but it gives attackers a brief window of opportunity to harm your computer every time they tweak their code. If a PC hasn't nabbed the latest update to its protection suite, it's vulnerable -- but it doesn't have to be that way. Researchers are using deep learning algorithms that can spot new malicious code naturally, without database updates.

Ubuntu 15.10 "Wily Werewolf" is now released and available, along with its alternative desktop flavors (MATE, Xfce, LXDE, GNOME, KDE, Kylin). This release features Linux 4.2, GCC 5, Python 3.5, and LibreOffice 5. The default version is still using X.org display server and Unity7; Mark Shuttleworth has said that Mir and Unity8 won't arrive until Ubuntu 16.04 "Xenial Xerus." Not much has changed beyond package updates, other than replacing the invisible overlay scrollbars in Nautilus with the GNOME 3 scrollbars.
Phoronix brings us the only bit of drama regarding this release: Jonathan Riddell, long time overseer of Kubuntu, has resigned with claims that Canonical has "defrauded donors and broke the copyright licenses."Another reader adds a link to a Q & A session with Riddell.

Microsoft has asked its enterprise customers how it can improve the adoption of Surface tablets and Windows 10 in the workplace.
The firm said in its Windows Blog that its large customers with global footprints expressed that they needed a broader set of service, management and support options.
“Many told us they wanted to buy Surface from one partner, in one transaction, and have devices deployed all over the world with a single support and warranty SLA,” reads the blog post.
So last month, Microsoft decided to listen to its customers and announced that Dell and HP will now resell Surface tablets and bring their enterprise-grade support offerings to the devices.
In addition to this, Microsoft has now announced that there will be two new additions to the Surface Enterprise Initiative, which are both designed to accelerate the adoption of Surface tablets and Windows 10.
First off, beginning in early 2016, Microsoft will have a new enterprise warranty and services available to customers via its commercial resellers. The Microsoft Complete for Enterprise warranty offering includes four elements that the firm says its larger enterprise customers have asked for. These include:
- Ability to pool warranty claims by company versus individual devices
- Allowing for warranty claims against non-bootable devices – helpful when customers have data security policies that either require a device to be wiped of all confidential information or require destruction of the hard drive prior to the device being returned under the warranty
- Next day air in the U.S. for fastest possible device replacement, and a similar rapid replace processing for markets outside the U.S.
- An on-boarding centre to ensure a premium experience within the first 30 days for both IT and end users – Microsoft will assist IT staff to get setup with warranty and support processes as well as provide online training for their employees to get productive as fast as possible.
The second addition to the enterprise initiative is the Business Device Trade-In Program.
“Many customers have told us that they want to upgrade to Surface and Windows 10, but have invested in devices and need to maximise the value they receive from those assets,” reads the blog.
“With the Business Device Trade-in Program we make it simple. This is different from other trade-in offers in that it is a permanent program for business customers, rather than a limited time promotion.”
With 24 hour quotes, prepaid shipping labels and secure data wipe, business customers can trade their used business laptops, tablets, and phones for credit towards the purchase of new Surface devices.
This offer will be available in the coming weeks to business customers in the US, Canada, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.
In the near future, the offer will also be available in Australia, France, Germany and the UK.
Earlier this month, Microsoft showcased its new tablet devices during its Windows 10 Devices event.

Microsoft has added an additional model to its new Surface Book range featuring an Nvidia GPU.
The new variant is essentially the base model with a Core i5 processor, 128GB of storage and 8GB of RAM, but with an Nvidia GPU added, which will raise the price of the base model from £970 to £1,100.
Consumers will now have an extra device to choose from, which might be ideal for those who want a step up from the base model and want better graphics but don’t necessarily need to double their storage.
We don’t currently know what model the GPU will be, but it seems likely to be around the same power level as an Nvidia GeForce 940M, according to TechRadar. But I’m sure we’ll find out more details by the time it ships in the UK on November 12th.
In the meantime, if you’re a business interested in using Surface tablets, it’s worth reading our guide to Microsoft’s Surface Enterprise Initiative.
In other Microsoft news, according to ‘trusted sources’ of Windows pundit Paul Thurrott, the firm will release an update called ‘Windows 10 Threashold 2’ or the ‘Fall Update’, on November 2nd.
As reported on Hexus, Windows 10 Threshold 2 is expected to bring some new features to the OS including a pre-installed messaging app that will integrate Skype.
SMS texting is also thought to be coming to desktop PCs thanks to Cortana, and there will be various improvements in Microsoft Edge as well as a new media creation tool.
Amongst all these updates and new products, it has also been reported that Microsoft has quietly laid off as many as 1,000 employees.
Addressing the reports, a Microsoft spokesperson stated: “The job reductions were spread across more than one business area and country and reflect adaptions to business needs. We go through this process in the most thoughtful manner possible, with the deepest respect for affected individuals.”
In its earnings report for Q1 2016, Microsoft reported revenues of $21.55 billion, beating analysts’ expectations. This month the firm also revealed that it would be teaming up with Intel, Dell, Lenovo and HP for a big PC ad campaign called ‘PC Does What?’.

Pre-orders for Fallout 4 have vaulted the upcoming game to number one on Steam's latest weekly top ten sellers chart.
There's a fair chance that's where Fallout 4 will stay, with the game coming out in less than a month. That said, this week's runner-up Counter-Strike: Global Offensive seems to be selling as well as it ever has since its launch in 2012.
Freshly released JRPG Tales of Zestiria debuted in third, with Grand Theft Auto V and Telltale's Minecraft: Story Mode rounding out the top five – the episodic release notably jumped five spots from its debut last week.
Bomb defusing title Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes appears to be an indie hit, making it onto the chart in tenth place.
Here's the full list:
- Fallout 4
- Counter-Strike: Global Offensive
- Tales of Zestiria
- Grand Theft Auto V
- Minecraft: Story Mode – A Telltale Game Series
- Warhammer: End Times – Vermintide
- Ark: Survival Evolved
- Civilization: Beyond Earth – Rising Tide
- Rocket League
- Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes

If you think that your browser's little padlock icon isn't enough to verify a website's security (but don't want to install a full-fledged app), you now have a better solution. Google has released a new Chrome Canary build that includes a security panel in amidst the usual developer options. Open it and you'll not only learn about the encryption for the host page, but the encryption for all the other connected sites, too. This is ostensibly meant to help developers safeguard their sites, but it'll also let you double-check for hidden security flaws on any site where you suspect that something's amiss. It'll take a while longer before this pops up in more refined versions of Chrome, so give Canary a shot if you want to verify a page before you trust it with your data.

If you're like most of us, you think Microsoft's Surface Book looks like an incredibly attractive laptop, however adding on all the (like a powerful NVIDIA GPU embedded in the keyboard) can make it a bit pricey. TechRadarnotes that the folks from Redmond have slid one more variant into the store, allowing buyers to essentially choose between upgrading the base ($1,500) model's graphics instead of its hard drive. For $1,700 you can either have a version with a Intel Core i5 CPU, 8GB of RAM, 256GB storage and no NVIDIA discrete GPU, or the new version -- a 128GB model with dGPU. If you keep your larger-capacity files in the cloud or an external drive, that cuts $200 off the previous cheapest dGPU-equipped version without losing any power, but we won't blame you if only the $3,200 1TB top-of-the-line powerhouse will suffice.

When switching web browsers, importing favorites isn't hard, but the thought of losing all your extensions is usually what keeps people where they are. As a result, even if you're on Windows 10 already you might not make use of Microsoft's slick new Edge browser until it too has support for add-ons. Unfortunately, in a statement to Ars Technica Microsoft confirmed rumors that its current plan is to put off the addition of extensions until next year. Its decision is apparently based on the need to make sure its extension model is secure before delivering it in a 2016 Windows update. While browser upgrades are still cooking, all signs indicate a fall update is on the way in November withmost of the features currently being beta tested, like an integrated Skype experience, new features for Cortana and an activation process that can accept product keys from earlier versions of Windows.

Linus Torvalds took the stage at LinuxCon Europe in Dublin, Ireland, and talked about a number of things, including security and the future for Linux on ARM hardware. There is nothing that will blow your mind, but there are a couple of interesting statements nonetheless. Chromebooks are slowly taking over the world, and a large number of those Chromebooks are powered by ARM processors. "I'm happy to see that ARM is making progress. One of these days, I will actually have a machine with ARM. They said it would be this year, but maybe it'll be next year. 2016 will be the year of the ARM laptop," said Linus excitedly. He also explained that one of the problems now is actually finding people to maintain Linux. It's not a glorious job, and it usually entails answering emails seven days a week. Finding someone with the proper set of skills and the time to do this job is difficult.

Sales of personal computers have been declining for so long — 14 consecutive quarters — that it's hard remember a time when PCs ruled the tech world. Now Nick Wingfield writes in the NY Times that Microsoft is leading the way on a mission to re-ignite the PC market by taking the once-unthinkable step of competing with its hardware partners. This week, Microsoft dived even further into the business with a laptop device, the Surface Book. The stated reason that Microsoft got into the PC hardware business three years ago, with the original Surface, was not to put PC companies out of business — but to better illustrate the capabilities of its software, providing devices that would inspire PC makers to be more innovative.
One of the most remarkable things about Microsoft's growing presence in the hardware business is that it has not led to open revolt among its partners. Initially, many of them were not happy about Microsoft's moves, complaining in private. "It's positioned as a laptop, very squarely against the MacBook Pro as an example. But that could also be extended to a Dell XPS 13, or an HP x360," says Patrick Moorhead. One reason there hasn't been more pushback from OEMs is that Microsoft's Surface business is still relatively small. Another is that the money Microsoft has poured into marketing Surface has raised the broader profile of Windows PCs. While Microsoft obviously risks alienating its partners, it's doing so with a much bigger fight in mind. "Right now Microsoft really believes that it has to have a combined hardware, software, and services play to go up against the likes of Apple," says Moorhead. "That's why it's doing this. That's why it's taking such an aggressive stance now, moving to laptops."

Windows 10 may have breathed new life into your PC, but it didn't do anything to juice PC sales this summer. Both Gartner and IDC estimate that computer sales dropped several points year-over-year (between 7.7 and 10.8 percent) in the third quarter, right when the new Windows arrived. That's one of the steeper drops in recent memory, in fact. Not that it comes as a complete surprise. As the analyst firms explain, Microsoft's fast-tracked release left many PC makers shipping existing systems with Windows 10, which weren't going to drive demand as much as brand new models. You're not going to buy a months-old laptop just because it's running new software, are you? The big question is whether or not the wave of new Windows 10 PCs launching this fall will make a difference -- if there's still a sharp decline, the industry is really in trouble.

At first glance, Microsoft's new Surface Pro 4 doesn't look that much different than last year's Surface Pro 3. But there are a slew of upgrades on the Surface Pro 4, as well as its accessories, that should make for an even better computing experience. It's screen is slightly bigger, the Type Cover feels a lot more like a traditional laptop keyboard and using the Surface Pen now feels like actually putting pen to paper. At Microsoft's huge device launch event in New York City earlier this week, we talked with Dave Mitchell, the senior director of program management for the Microsoft Devices Group, who gave us the lowdown on how his team went about improving on the already great Surface Pro 3. Check out the interview below, and be sure to take a look at our hands-on with the Surface Pro 4.

Microsoft famously accused Google of "Scroogling" users by selling their private data to advertisers. But when it launched Windows 10, Microsoft was itself roundly criticized for over-zealous personal data collection. Critics say it does things like send parents reports of their kids' PC use, prevent users from opting out of certain types of data collection, and scan PCs for counterfeit software. The software giant has responded to those accusations in a Windows blog post, saying that it only collects data that makes its products work better and that it gives users control over information collected.
