The World of Warcraft guild Overrated has been permanently banned by Blizzard Entertainment after it was caught cheating in the massively multiplayer online role-playing game. Guild members used an exploit that essentially knocked down walls, according to postings on World of Warcraft-related forums.
The guild had been playing the level of the Temple of Ahn'Qiraj, also known as AQ40. In it, the dungeon level map progresses in a circular manner from the first to last bosses. The mod effectively allowed the guild to bypass what it refers to as "C'thun trash," bosses who dropped less lucrative items. Guild members could then move on to the final boss, C'thun, who drops more valuable goodies.
Pantaloons, a member of the Overrated guild, commented on the WOW forums, "Let me explain. We are the only US Horde guild that clears Naxx [the most challenging area of the game], been like that for a few weeks. People found that the pre-C'thun trash was so painful, that they decided to install some stupid thing that deletes walls or something, and you can just run there after Skeram [the first boss]. I know, we had it coming, blah blah whatever, we know we deserve it...I'm sure they'll try and get it rescinded because it's kind of a steep punishment with no recourse or whatever."
Blizzard Entertainment did not respond to requests from GameSpot for a comment.

We've not had a whiff of info on BioWare's PC role-playing game Dragon Age for a long, long time now, some might say an age, but that's all changed today as new details on the 3D fantasy romp through the kingdom of Ferelden have hit the interweb.
According to an article on 1UP, players will be presented with a plot far darker than fans of previous BioWare PC RPGs will be used to, the storyline apparently influenced by - the utterly fantastic - A Game of Thrones series of fantasy novels penned by George R. R. Martin. Beefing up the storyline aspect, each character archetype selectable by the player features its own origin story, offering variety in the open stages of Dragon Age and, we reckon, potentially allowing for multiple endings to the adventure.
We can expect in-depth interaction between characters and NPCs too, with BioWare said to be employing a modified version of the conversation system that features in its Xbox 360 game Mass Effect. Allowing you to engage in conversation by selecting from sets of 'chat' statements - like in KOTOR - the system is dynamic, cinematic, lets you interrupt conversations for example and is also enhanced by realistic facial animations. We can only guess at how this is being modified for Dragon Age at the moment.
Additionally, a few details have been spilled on combat, it described it as being in the style of Baldur's Gates' real-time tactical combat, but evolved. Plus, orders can be queued up for members of your party who are able to execute coordinated attacks, according to 1UP. And what sounds really cool is that Dragon Age will feature big scraps with large creatures, what BioWare is aiming for with this sounding not unlike the battle scene from the first Lord of the Rings movie where the Fellowship fights the massive troll in Moria.

I know that the old model III emu was passed on to MAME, and the newest MAME version has many model III roms working, so is there any plans on making a direct emulator for the model III using the MAME source code? An emu that focuses more on speed ups, rather then accuracy as the MAME does????
I really want to play some of these roms!!!

New PC Game released:
description
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War Anthology is the ultimate collectors edition, featuring the original Dawn of War, its two expansion packs - Winter Assault and Dark Crusade - and more.
Dawn of War:
Ten thousand years have passed since the treasonous acts of Chaos toppled the Golden Age of mankind. Fires burn brightly throughout the galaxies, illuminating carnage and slaughter as mankind defends itself from ancient enemies. Hardened forces collide with one goal in mind, the complete extermination of their opposition. Control one of four unique races in head-to-head or cooperative multiplayer action, where faith, skill, and strategy are requisites in ruling the universes.
Winter Assault:
The expansion pack to the award winning Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War will build upon the most exciting, visceral, front-line battlefield ever seen in an RTS game. Lost amongst the ruins of a leveled city lies an Emperor Class Titan, a war vessel of untold power forged in the planet-wide furnaces of Mars, and revered by billions as the epitome of Imperial dominance. The one who controls it will command the power to destroy, or defend, a world. The Imperials will summon it to overcome great evil, Chaos will corrupt it for their own designs, Orks will destroy it in their bloodlust and Eldar will disregard it in their arrogance.
Dark Crusade:
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Dark Crusade will feature two new playable races, the Tau Empire and the Necrons, bringing the number of totally unique races to an unprecedented seven. In addition to the two new playable races, Dark Crusade will feature an all-new single player campaign centering on the conquest of a "meta-map," with each territory captured giving tangible rewards to the occupying force. A greatly expanded multiplayer component and a completely unique economy model for the Necrons will present gamers with the most compelling Dawn of War game to-date.

An Elf-tastic action-RPG, what we've seen so far has had us impressed and intrigued. Elveon overlord Slavo Hazucha fills us in
10Tacle's Elveon is a game that eyes should be kept on. In development for PC and Xbox 360, it's an action-RPG dealing with Elf-kind that recently wowed us with one of the most incredible videogame environments we've ever seen. Epic's Unreal Engine 3 throbs away at the heart of the title, you see, and 10Tacle has additionally enhanced the engine with some of its own tech to ensure it suits its vision for Elveon down to a tee.
Elveon is still around a year off, with 10Tacle currently aiming for a Q3 2007 release and, while it's of course impossible to judge at this stage how the end result will turn out, it's certainly showing plenty of promise.

This is turning out to be the season of strategy expansions, with AoE III: The War Chiefs and Dawn of War: Dark Crusade already available, and BFME2: Rise of the Witch-king shipping in four weeks. The just-released Forces of Corruption extends your Star Wars: Empire at War experience by adding a third playable faction, the Zann Coalition, to the galactic struggle. Much like the Hutts, it's all about profit for crime lord Tyber Zann, and he intends to plunder the considerable resources of the Empire and the Rebellion with the help of IG-88 and a new rancor-summoning Force witch. Yoda joins the ranks of the rebels, while the Empire now has Dark Troopers.
Yahoo! Games (90/100) enjoyed blowing up Ewoks, but also appreciates the authentic environments: "Some maps, like the one set on Cloud City on Bespin, or the scene of Zann's infiltration of Coruscant, are genuinely creative, occasionally approaching a Diablo-like focus on one or two main units without a wider force to distract you."
GameSpot (81/100) likes the new criminal element, but warns of performance issues: "There's a price to be paid for some of the huge battles and missions that you'll undertake. Even with most of the graphical detail settings set to low, the expansion had frame rate issues running on a midrange machine that ran Empire at War just fine with the details set to high."
Game Informer (75/100) recommends this expansion for extended universe fans: "If you're one of those guys (or gals) that can quote every line from every movie, but you've never heard of Grand Admiral Thrawn, then Forces of Corruption isn't for you. Meanwhile, if you know the details of how Darth Maul was trained, or who exactly Aayla Secura is, then come on in to the pool. The water's fine!"

Free stuff alert! Punters picking up RPG sequel Neverwinter Nights 2 this Friday will find a little extra beardness in the box - a free trial of Dungeons & Dragons Online.
The trial lasts for seven days and gives full access to the Turbine-developed MMORPG in its current state. The title has recently witnessed the arrival of The Demon Sands, a module update that features the likes of new quests and PvP additions.
Neverwinter Nights 2 is, of course, the follow-up to BioWare's critically acclaimed role-playing game. The sequel's been developed by Obsidian Entertainment and is an epic fantasy romp that features an - hopefully - engrossing single-player component and huge multiplayer element.

Blizzard has admitted to beefing up the male Blood Elf character models in World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade, after "concerns" that they were a bit too feminine.
According to a post on the game's official forum, "after reviewing the model from a visual and conceptual standpoint, the decision was made to increase the body mass to give them a more substantial, masculine feel".
"It was also important that as members of the Horde that the Blood Elves gave the impression of strength and a more menacing presence," the Blizzard post noted.
It's fair to say that the response to the response has been quite fiery, with a number of people pointing out that the Blood Elves were meant to help shift the Horde away from burly brutish stereotypes anyway.
Blizzard does at least point out that as this is all part of the closed beta, everything's still subject to change.
WOW: The Burning Crusade will be released in January 2007, Blizzard said yesterday.

Armed with weapons, knowledge of the arcane arts and an ounce of bravery, the final word on the action-RPG is moments away...
This Friday sees the release of slash-'em-up and magic-fest Dark Messiah of Might & Magic for PC. As you'll no doubt be aware, the game's powered by Valve's Source engine and plunges players into a first-person perspective fantasy romp that melds gratuitous action with RPG character development - and our colleagues on PC Zone magazine reckon the end result of developer Arkane Studios' labours is definitely worth investing in.

Massive Entertainment's PC real-time strategy title World in Conflict has whacked on caterpillar tracks this morning and crushed our eyeballs with a latest movie depicting Cold War-era action.
So the storyline for the game goes, Soviet forces have invaded US soil and, as a field commander caught up in the war, it's the player's job to retake the American cities and suburbs that have been overrun by enemy units. You get to witness part the invasion and the ensuing combat in the movie, which proudly proclaims that what we're seeing is actual in-game footage. Cor!
All being well, World in Conflict will appear in spring 2007 and the fact that it's from the dev behind the Ground Control games makes it one to keep an eye on.

Blizzard has confirmed that World of Warcraft expansion pack The Burning Crusade won't be released until January now, missing the lucrative Christmas selling season.
The add-on was widely expected to go on sale next month, but Blizzard has opted to extend the closed beta test in order to "further refine the new content that will ship with the game".
Company president Mike Morhaime commented, "We appreciate the enthusiasm surrounding World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade, and we’re excited about putting the finishing touches on all of the new content.
"We feel confident that the extra time spent polishing the game will result in the high-quality experience that our players expect and deserve."
More information on specific worldwide release dates and pricing will be announced "in the near future".
The news that The Burning Crusade won't be out in time for Christmas is likely to disappoint many WOW fans - but it's unlikely to affect sales of the add-on in the long run. Back in August, Blizzard COO Paul Sams confirmed that the number of subscribers is "over 6.5 million and just shy of seven million" - making for a healthy installed base of potential buyers.

December sees a return to Battle for Middle-earth II warfare in PC expansion Rise of the Witch-king, so we guess it's apt that it's snowing in the latest screenshot to emerge.
Set before events in Tolkien's LoTR fantasy epic, the expansion finds players wrapping themselves in evil's cloak and delving into the Witch-king's rise to power in the new single-player campaign (if memory serves correctly, the Witch-king is the Nazgul leading Sauron's armies in the massive scrap outside the walls of Minas Tirith in Return of the King). A brand new faction is included - Angmar - along with new units for the game's existing factions and War of the Ring and Create-A-Hero features are getting an upgrade too.

The head of an emerging terrorist network has been targeted for termination and a team of specialists have joined forces to take the subject and the network out. That, in a nutshell, is the over-arching plot of Field Ops, Freeze Interactive's PC title that combines RTS and FPS gameplay and drops the amalgam into a modern-day combat scenario.
Field Ops deploys in the early 2007, but in the meantime new screenshots released reveal one of the game's missions based in Cuba. What we're seeing is actually an operation being conducted in Santiago de Cuba, the second largest city in the country which, so we're told, has been overrun by left-wing extremists under instructions from some bloke called Ramiro Omar Rodr*guez.
