The content featuring in Evil Resurgent is aimed at advanced players, and is free to current subscribers.
"Dungeons & Dragons Online: Stormreach has always offered the best dungeon crawling experience and with the release of Evil Resurgent, we are continuing our aggressive push to provide new and compelling content for our fans," said Jeffrey Anderson, president and CEO of the MMOG's developer Turbine. "Evil Resurgent delivers six new dungeons that challenge players with fearsome monsters including mindflayers, a lich, ogre magi and a necromancer."
Below is explanatory word from official channels on the six dungeons that have been added:
Parthilcar Tower Crypt - Mirra heard a noise in her basement. When she sent her brother to check it out, he discovered several mindflayers lurking in the crypt. The mindflayers have been secretly taking several members of each of the major houses of Stormreach and turning them into voidminds. The mindflayers are preparing to release their voidmind house members to take over the great houses of Stormreach from within, unless they are destroyed.
From Beyond the Grave - Deathshadow is long in the ground, but his evil lives on. Through dark magic and sheer force of will, the necromancer haunts the convict cemetery called Penitent's Rest, and is now summoning forth an army of the undead. With a legion of walking corpses and ethereal horrors at his command, he intends to break out from his pauper's grave and invade Delera's Graveyard, the resting place of Stormreach's prosperous and elite. The players must meet his forces head-on in a fight to the death...again!
Spire of Validus - The Spire of Validus was buried under the earth. The lich buried there used his magic to cause his tomb to grow like a beanstalk, causing it to burst forth and rise high into the sky. Players must journey to the top of the tower to discover that the lich has awakened, and defeat him.
Whisperdoom - When Splinterskull fell, Whisperdoom found herself with a very large new lair. However, a group of ogre magi came upon Whisperdoom and captured her. They have taken her to a new lair, and have begun to imbue her with magical abilities, with the hopes of creating an army of magic wielding spawn of Whisperdoom to do their bidding.
Haywire's Grotto - Haywire has struck a deal with a tribe of duergar: they allow him to live in their caves and provide him with materials, and he makes golems. Things were going well for Haywire, until he became convinced that he should start replacing his body parts with those of a warforged. The Marut discovered this, and Haywire is again stuck, this time inside a panic room he fortunately had built, but who knows how long he'll last against the combined might of the Marut, the golems, and the now quite upset Duergar.
Gate of Nightmares - Long ago when the Dal Quor invaded Xen'drik, they built many temples that were attuned to the Plane of Dreams, and served as conduits for their soldiers. The Cult of Madness has found one of these temples, and has managed to alter its attunement to be aligned with Xoriat. Several of the smaller portals have been reopened, and the central gateway is not far from becoming fully operational.

We've seen a fair old bit of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. in the last few weeks, and today we're eyeing up new screenshots from GSC Game World's survival-shooter.
In-game environments are on display, and we have to say we're rather impressed. Concerns have been voiced recently that, due to the game's extended development time, it might not now stand up visually when stacked against other current PC titles, but we reckon it's looking more than fine. Check out the screenshots for yourself to see what you think.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R., all being well, will be with us in March 2007.

Joystiq has a short piece up talking with Windows (GFW) Marketing Director Kevin Unangst and PR Manager Michael Wolf about the future of the 'Games for Windows' initiative. With the launch of Vista, Microsoft is making a big push to turn PC games into a 'console-like' cohesive brand. Instead of relying on the good name of individual publishers to sell titles, Redmond is requiring that all titles use similar packaging and a distinctive logo. Along with the new gamer-centric features in Vista, and the tie-in to Xbox 360 with 'Live Anywhere', this is meant to reinvigorate the PC games market for the sometimes not-so-savvy consumer. From the article:
"By making gaming a priority in the Vista experience, Microsoft is molding a powerful pairing of the Games for Windows and Xbox 360 brands. To some extent, this is based on a hope that Live Anywhere will be embraced by GFW developers and publishers, pulling Xbox Live (and your Gamertag) outside of the 'Box, in turn encouraging an unrivaled virtual community. But there are simpler touches that also spark our interest. For example, start up Vista's Minesweeper, connect your 360 controller, and enjoy a subtle rumble each time you slip up. It's the melding with the familiar that will drive new and lost consumers to the Games for Windows brand."

Oblivion fans disappointed by the size of recent download expansion Nights of the Nine will be pleased by reports this morning, indicating that a new 'full-sized' Oblivion expansion called 'Shivering Isles' is on its way - and from what we've heard it's all true.
Bethesda parent company Zenimax Media registered the 'Shivering Isle' trademark earlier this year alongside Nights of the Nine, although reports from Europe have only just indicated that it is infact an expansion headed for the epic RPG.
That's all we have for now - but look out for more info on the expansion when we finally manage to get Bethesda to open its green, orc-ish mouth.

Tomorrow, here in the UK, Ubisoft is firing out the latest round of Rainbow Six tactical shooter operations with the arrival of Vegas on PC. And in an interview to be published in full on R6 Vegas' PC assault day, we asked Ubisoft how the latest instalment on the beige box raises bar in the tactical shooter genre.
"We are actually putting a lot of emphasis on what we call the OPA. Observe, Plan and Assault," says producer Stephane Roy. "We're not inventing anything here; it's the way spec ops work. But we are designing the game and our features to fully support this."
He continues: "For the observation, we added the ability to snake cam under a door so that players would have better information about a room before they storm in with their team. As for the planning, we have revised the way the player gives orders to his team mates. Our new way is more intuitive, and it allows the player to control his team mates remotely without needing to be right next to them. Finally, for the assault, we've added rappelling and fast roping, allows player and their team mates to enter locations in new tactical ways."
We took the opportunity too to ask about improvements over Rainbow Six: Lockdown, Roy explaining that the goal with Vegas was to take what has made Rainbow Six games so popular and bring the player's experience to the next level.
"This means focusing on core elements like tactics and realism, but it also means accepting to stop doing things we've done in the past. The format of the game for example. Since we want players to feel the experience we created, we decided to do our storyline in real-time", Roy informs, adding that a lot of time and effort has gone into AI.
"...one of our major focuses is the AI, not only the enemies but the team mates as well. Your team mates will have their own skills and will help you out on the field. Regarding the enemies, you'll see a progression in their abilities. At the beginning, you'll encounter some guerrilla-like terrorists but near the end, they'll be organized and expertly-trained to increase the challenge."

Sega has confirmed our report from earlier this week that Obsidian Entertainment is creating an RPG based on the Alien franchise.
"The role playing game", explains Sega, "will build upon the distinctive look and feel of the original films while utilising next-generation technology to create an entirely different and unique Alien experience."
We've no further details at this time, but obviously we'll bring you more as soon as we get it. And presumably with Obsidian confirmed as the developer of the Alien RPG, the previous report that Gearbox will be handling the announced Alien FPS is on the money - but we're still awaiting word on that.

We all knew anyway, but EA has finally opened its mouth regarding Command & Conquer 3's third, swarming alien faction, in the pages of the US Games for Windows magazine.
Joining classic CnC combatants GDI and Nod, the pesky tiberian space visitors look more like something out of Westwood's other RTS series Dune, with purple insect-like Shock Troopers and larger six-legged friends straight from the set of Starship Troopers.
Apparently, instead of traditional war factories the bug-like ETs use massive portals to warp their units to the battlefield, and prefer ripping their enemies to shreds with infantry-level Razor Drones to lugging weapons and guns around.
That's all we know for now, but we'll be sure to let you know when EA offers more info on the third faction, along with the first screenshots and movies of the purple critters in action.

GSC's long-awaited FPS-survival-RPG PC game S.T.A.L.K.E.R. will release in March 2007, according to a new teaser trailer released.
Outside of presenting us with a launch month, the trailer flashes up disturbing images from the game and informs of the "Legacy of Chernobyl" - or, a brief history of the infamous Chernobyl nuclear power plant disaster.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R., of course, uses the disaster as its foundation for game events. In the title, you take on the role of a bounty hunter scavenging the wasteland around the power station, fighting other hunters and mutated nasties.

Counter-Strike: Source's recently added 'weapons market' - which sees the prices of in-game weapons alter dynamically depending on popularity - has resulted in Valve Software initiating a pistol tweak.
"As many of you have probably noticed, the price of the Desert Eagle has been increasing steadily and is now somewhat out of control. This is happening because the Desert Eagle is considerably more useful than the rest of the pistols -- purchasing one of the others is not a smart buy. We'll address this by making the Five Seven, P228, and Dual Elites more effective. The prices of all pistols have been reset to their previous defaults in preparation for this change," the dev has said in a recent news update on the official Steam site.
In the same update, Valve has also announced World War II Week which, among other things, finds the Call of Duty games stuck into a single War Chest pack that's being sold on Steam at a 10% discount through to December 14.

December 8th, 2006, 17:07 Posted By: wraggster
According to a report on Wired, the game is the result of Multiverse shaking hands on a deal with Fox Licensing. Multiverse is a company that's creating an MMO platform and won't be developing the title - apparently, a dev will be hired in to actually forge the game, employing Multiverse tools to do so.
Multiverse co-founder and executive producer Corey Bridges has said, "We want to find someone who wants to do something unique and fun and interesting, not just a re-skin of World of Warcraft or Star Wars Galaxies".
PC Zone's Will Portrer was frothing with excitement over the news. "This is the best thing ever. I've always said it would make perfect MMOG territory", he enthused this morning.
With the MMOG begin described as "in the fashion of Star Wars Galaxies or Eve Online", presumably we can expect space-based action tied in with on-planet stuff - which would certainly be in keeping with the show. It's unclear whether the series' main characters will feature in any capacity. Maybe they'll turn up as NPCs.
A release date of 2008 has been given.

Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar, the massively-multiplayer game set in Tolkien's Middle-earth fantasy world, will feature an intriguing form of Player versus Player combat called 'monster play'.
This will see gamers "inhabit the evil creatures of Middle-earth" to complete quests and engage in battle with other human-controlled characters, according to Turbine, the game's developer.
Shadows of Angmar had originally been announced without PvP support, something that was bound to alienate a number of MMO-obsessives. However, during an interview with games website FiringSquad, Turbine spilled the beans on how the PvP element of LOTR Online will work, as well as discussing new combo attacks available to gamers who quest in teams.
Monster play will require you to take on the role of some of the more evil denizens of Middle-earth, while successfully completing quests and skirmishing with other player characters will enable you to earn experience points that can be spent on upgrading your main character - though Turbine hasn't commented on what monsters you'll be able to inhabit.
Shadows of Angmar, due for release next spring, will also feature coordinated attacks for gamers battling with friends. When one player uses a skill to knock an enemy into a vulnerable position, an icon appears in the HUDs of their fellow adventurers. Those players have a few seconds to click the icon, before a mass co-op attack is launched on the dazed enemy, encouraging group play.
While Turbine may have a few off-beat ideas (one skill called Empathy oddly gives a +2 armour bonus and resistance to fear attacks - if only it was the same in real life) a new twist on PvP combat and the co-op attacks will give LOTR Online: Shadows of Angmar an edge in the war against WoW-alike multiplayer adventures.

This is nuts. Chinese company Tianchant Networks, who run local MMORPG Datang, are giving away a share of real, dirt-in-your-hands land to subscribers of their game. A 100 acre plot of land in the coastal Zhejiang province has been tucked away, with Datang players given a 49% share of it for the "right of use privileges to the land".
And what do Tianchant have to do on their end of the deal? Add a virtual replica of Zhejiang to the game. That's it.
Breaking it up between 10,000 players doesn't leave too much land, but it beats the hell out of getting some dinky pre-order bonus from EB. You can't build a house on that.

Shawn Fanning to create a WoW community site, similar to MySpace, to improve communication between players
Dubbed Rapture, Fanning upcoming community site aims to capture information and data directly from the game and post it on a user's personalised page.
The site also allows for instant messaging between users. The idea reportedly came from Fanning not being able to communicate well with others in the game.
There are just many obvious jokes to know where to begin, especially on a Monday morning...

A final peek at the expansion before it assaults your local games emporium
On the eve of Rise of the Witch-king launch day, EA is executing one final screenshot charge - can you hear the thunder of the hooves? Look, and the cheeky minxes have only gone and stampeded all over this page. Guess we'd better pass our red-rimmed eyes over them then...
The Battle for Middle-earth II expansion focuses on the Witch-king of Angmar from LotR lore and lets you wrap yourself in evil's cloak and rampage over the land. Plenty of new stuff's been, er, stuffed into the package such as a brand new faction and units, a new single-player campaign and new units for the RTS game's existing factions.
