Star Trek Online, the award-winning free-to-play MMORPG, is launching its latest content update Season 8: The Sphere on November 12, 2013. Players will be introduced to the Voth, an ancient alien species being used for the first time in a Star Trek video game, and will journey to the inside of a massive Dyson sphere where they’ll uncover a plot that threatens the Galaxy.

Infestation: Survivor stories celebrates

Since launching one year ago, more than 1.5 million players have experienced the slaying of undead enemies as well as other players in the post-apocalyptic world of the online, multiplayer game Infestation: Survivor Stories and, to celebrate, OP Productions is releasing an Anniversary Update comprised of a bevy of feature updates, including the much anticipated vehicles and crafting. The Anniversary Update includes:

Luvinia World Patch Update Release Focuses On Mount Upgrade

his week, SOA Games has unveiled their latest patch update for their action-packed anime MMORPG, Luvinia World.

The newest patch update now adds support for level 4 and 5 mount upgrade, lowers the vitality needed for re-entering some high-level dungeons, and fixes many quest bugs.

Get first hands-on with dungeon of the endless

Best known for its popular 4X titleEndless Space, the award-winning indie developer Amplitude Studios has revealed today it will debut its brand new Dungeon of the Endless in playable, hands-on form at the European game conference Paris Games Week, and the popular Florida-based Minecraft conference, Minecon.

Amplitude Studios will offer gamers the chance to play the PC title at both events to get a deeper understanding of its latest creation. Dungeon of the Endless can be found at Booth Jeux Made In France (Hall 2.2) at Paris Games Week in Paris, France, October 30 through November 3, and at the Indie Booth at Minecon in Orlando, Florida, November 2-3.

First revealed behind closed doors at this summer’s Gamescom, Dungeon of the Endless is a compelling, cooperative rogue-like tower-defense game that delivers a retro 2D look with modern 3D effects. Each time players start a new game, they will experience a totally new, randomly generated map, collect sources just like those found in Endless Space (Dust, Food, Industry, and Science), and battle an armada of alien enemies all in the attempt to escape the dungeon. The tough 1-4 player hybrid title plays entirely differently than the 4X game Endless Space, but keen observers will notice ties between the two, as each is set in the Endless universe.

First 64-bit quad-core ARM chips to be fabricated by... Intel?

Intel's largest chip manufacturing customer, Altera, has said that it'll soon be building chips there based on -- wait for it -- ARM technology. Its Stratix 10 SoC will contain a quad-core, 64-bit ARM Cortex-A53 CPU, which Intel confirmed would be the first of that type manufactured by anyone. By contrast, Apple's latest Samsung-built 64-bit A7 ARM chips used in the iPhone 5s are only dual-core. However, Altera's processors, which will be fab'ed with Intel's advanced 14nm tech are destined for networking equipment only and won't compete with the likes of Qualcomm and Samsung for smartphones. In any case, Intel's just a gun for hire with its biggest competitor's tech, so it would be unwise to draw any conclusions -- after all, the chip giant has its ownClover Trail to follow.

Battlefield 4 DRM Locking Out Part of North America Until EU Release

On the whole, Battlefield 4 had a reasonable launch. The have clearly learned from their past experiences with Battlefield 3and, more notably, SimCity. Still, some customers are unable to access the game (until, presumably, October 30th at 7PM EDT, 39 hours after launch) because they are incorrectly flagged by region-locking. Do regional release dates help diminish all the work EA has been putting into Origin with their refund policy and live technical support? Should they just take our money and deliver the service before we change our minds?"

Dell Fixes Ultrabook That Smelled of Cat Urine

The BBC is reporting that Dell's Latitude 6430u Ultrabooks have an interesting characteristic you won't find in any Macbook Air: the palm rest emits an odor like cat urine. An issue with a manufacturing process is thought to be to blame. Although Dell has assured potential customers that the issue has been fixed, reports in the Dell support forum indicate that units with the novel fragrance continue to ship out to users. Dell staff state that the palm rest will be replaced by Dell at no cost, but only if the unit is still under warranty.

Steam hits 65m registered accounts

Valve’s gaming platform sees 30 per cent growth in last year

Valve has announced that Steam now has 65m active accounts.

In the past twelve months the gaming platform has seen a 30 per cent growth in accounts.

This is partly due to the new features Steam has introduced in the last year – these include family sharing, trading cards, early access and, perhaps most importantly, support for Linux games.

"The main goal of Steam has always been to increase the quality of the user's experience by reducing the distance between content creators and their audience," said Gabe Newell, co-founder and president of Valve.

"As the platform grows, our job is to adapt to the changing needs of both the development and user communities. In the coming year, we plan to make perhaps our most significant collaborations with both communities through the Steam Dev Days and the Steam Machines beta."

The platform is now ten years old and offers over 3,000 games.

Pick your weapon of choice and start studying up now on the capable classes in Aura Kingdom! Aeria Games, a leading global publisher of free-to-play online games, has now revealed all eight classes that players will have to choose from when they start their adventure in Terra.

Melee lovers will look to the Guardian, Ravager, or Duelist, while those who favor spellcasters can take up a Wizard, Sorcerer, or Bard. To round out the roster are the Gunslinger and Grenadier, who pack explosive punch from a distance. Classes in Aura Kingdom are defined primarily by their chosen weapon, but upon reaching level 40, players will have the option to choose a secondary weapon. Secondary weapon choice offers a great measure of versatility and allows players to expand their role in a party. Adding to that versatility are Ultimate Skills, which offer choices to enhance a character as it levels up. Certain Ultimate Skills can modify a character’s existing abilities—damage-dealers could opt to add a stun or a damage-over-time component to one of their main attacks, for example. Once learned, Ultimate Skills are free and easy to swap around, allowing a player to tailor their skill set to better handle any given challenge.

A player’s selected secondary weapon also has the potential to combo with their primary one, opening up access to a wide range of unique abilities. Fortunately, players have the option to change their choice of secondary weapon to experiment with the many possible combinations and find their favorite combo attacks.

Xsyon Sandbox MMORPG Gets the Steam Greenlight!

Xsyon: Prelude, the apocalyptic fantasy sandbox MMORPG, has been approved for a launch on Steam!

Xsyon entered the Steam Greenlight program earlier this year. Through Greenlight, interested players vote on what titles they would eventually like to play through the Steam online gaming service. In preparation for the pending launch on Steam, Notorious Games has announced their development plans for the next few months as follows:

- Farming: Characters plant, water, tend and harvest crops, gathering food to survive and enhance their existence.

- Cooking: Characters combine ingredients to create unique recipes, resulting in dishes that provide buffs and boosts.

- Terrain Reversion: Public land that has been terraformed then abandoned will revert to its original form, giving players a cleaner slate to construct and develop new towns.

- Multiple Servers: To accommodate an influx in population, Xsyon will exist on multiple servers, including a more friendly PvE server and a risk oriented PvP server.

The Typing of the Dead: OVERKILL is out now

SEGA have announced that The Typing of the Dead: OVERKILL launched exclusively for PC Digital Download yesterday just in time for Halloween. Developed by Modern Dream with a little help from Hardlight Studios, this adaptation of console gore-fest The House of the Dead: OVERKILL™ is available for download now and will be priced at £14.99/$19.99/€17.99. The original The House of the Dead: OVERKILL is also included in the package!

The Typing of the Dead: OVERKILL, like its aforementioned console counterpart, uncovers the ugly, terrifying secrets behind the original The House of the Dead ™; the daddy of all over-the-top shooters. This time though, trigger-happy creature blasters will trade in their light guns for keyboards and will need to hone their typing skills to repel the mutant hordes with lightning-fast spelling and lethally accurate grammar. Up to two players can take on the fright-filled story mode or one of three monster-maiming mini-games all designed to improve your keyboard skills in the bloodiest typing tutorial around.

HAWKEN Co-Op Bot Destruction Mode

Meteor Entertainment proudly enhances its recent HAWKEN Ascension update with even more content for its Free to Play Mech FPS with the release of the new Predator mech and Co-Op Bot Destruction mode with its latest HAWKEN: Invasion patch.

The Preadtor, a new medium-sized mech, adds another option to the ever-expanding pool of mechs already available to players.The Predator excels at ambush combat. It can prowl the battlefield cloaked by its Stalker ability,which provides both near-total invisibility plus a form of heat vision that can detect enemy mechs through walls. The Predator can easily hunt down and lay waste to enemy mechs,earning it a fearsome reputation as a true battlefield beast of prey.

Co-Op Bot Destruction allows players to team up in a desperate fight for survival. Player teams must battle their way through waves of AI drones and bot mechs, with mech-based Boss fights interspersed between the waves to keep the action constant and intense.

“We’re excited to be releasing a new mech and expanding our game modes for our community of players. The Predator is unlike anything we’ve released before” says Jason Hughes, Senior Producer at Adhesive Games, the game developer behind HAWKEN.

Adhesive CEO Khang Le of Adhesive Games adds “The latest update has again been driven primarily from the awesome feedback we continue to get on HAWKEN from the fans .” In addition to the new Predator and gameplay mode, the latest update also adds new repair drones, thruster design, three custom skins, and three solid camo colours.

EA cancels F2P Command and Conquer

On the official website for Command & Conquer, a posting has confirmed that the free-to-play version of the game is ceasing production after several months of a closed alpha test.
"Thank you for your participation over the last few months in the Command & Conquer closed alpha test. It's been much appreciated, and you've been instrumental in helping define what a new Command & Conquer experience should and shouldn't be. Part of being in a creative team is the understanding that not all of your choices are going to work out. In this case, we shifted the game away from campaign mode and built an economy-based, multiplayer experience. Your feedback from the alpha trial is clear: We are not making the game you want to play. That is why, after much difficult deliberation, we have decided to cease production of this version of the game," wrote developer Victory Games. "Although we deeply respect the great work done by our talented team, ultimately it's about getting you the game you expect and deserve."
Sadly for Victory Games, the developer is being "disbanded" an EA spokesperson told GamesIndustry International. "A small team of people that have been working or supporting the Command & Conquer game will be impacted. Wherever possible, we are working to help these talented people find other opportunities with EA," the representative added.
EA intends to refund any money spent by players in the alpha over the next 10 days. The company is now "looking at a number of alternatives" to the free-to-play Command & Conquer.
