The Death Knight Hero Class that's being introduced to World of Warcraft in expansion Wrath of the Lich King is the topic up for discussion in a new Blizzard interview.
Appearing on the MMORPG's official website, the interview looks at the developer's reasoning behind introducing the Death Knight, how it fits in with existing character classes - in particular tanking classes - and its unique rune system.
Unfortunately, it's not revealed how we'll access the Death Knight class. Dammit.
"One interesting difference between the death knight and other tanks is that death knights don't use shields. This is also a good example of how our design concepts for the class are closely reflected in actual gameplay.
"If you think of a death knight, you think of this terrifyingly powerful warrior in heavy plate armor carrying around an enormous rune weapon, very much like Arthas does in the cinematics of Warcraft III.
"You don't really see death knights hiding behind a shield - that's just not their style. We take this design concept and then turn it into gameplay that is both fun and fitting for the class".

Chinese online game vendor The9 has announced that it has signed an agreement to purchase a 50 per cent stake in MSN China for USD 200 million.
Microsoft co-founded MSN China with Shanghai Alliance Investment in 2005. The two parties each owned a 50 per cent stake in the joint venture. The9 is purchasing Shanghai Alliance Investment's share, making it a co-owner with Microsoft.
"The purchase of MSN China's stake is part of The9's strategic layout. It is aimed at to build up a cross-business platform...covering instant messaging, cyber game, online communities, and online auctions," says a The9 spokesperson.
As reported earlier, EA purchased a 15 per cent stake in The9 back in May 2007, giving them an interest in the MSN China purchase.
EA, however, has downplayed the connection.
"As noted, EA has a publishing agreement with The9 which includes equity participation in the company," Jeff Brown, a VP of communications for EA, told GamesIndustry.biz. "The9's participation with the ISP has no bearing on our agreement."
The9 runs Vivendi's World of Warcraft game in China and currently has the fourth largest market share of the Chinese cyber game market.

Sports Interactive has released a demo for the latest instalment of Football Manager 2008.
Well, two, actually: a dumpy "strawberry" version with all the Euro leagues and logos, or a trimmed "vanilla" offering focused on the UK.
This year Football Manager will be available all around the world and boasts many more tactical bits and pieces to get stuck into.
You can keep up to date with all of these over on the official website, where Sports Interactive boss Miles Jacobson will be writing weekly blogs to cover the new features.
Or you can always pop into our Football Manager 2008 gamepage to see what we thought when we had a play on it recently.
Football Manager 2008 is due for release later this year, although publisher SEGA has yet to say exactly when.

Petroglyph's PC version of its RTS Universe at War: Earth Assault has been delayed.
Originally the game was due out on November 2 for PC, but it's now been pushed back to January 2008
"The new release date means that both the PC version and Xbox 360 version will launch closer together, allowing gamers to enjoy the full experience of this fantastic RTS from acclaimed developer, Petroglyph", a Sega rep told us.
Universe at War: Earth Assault features a good old-fashioned alien invasion of Earth scenario, and it's only the first instalment in a series that Petroglyph plans.
"At this point, if you looked at the first Universe at War game as the initial chapter in an ongoing saga, there are at least two more chapters of material we've got fleshed out... and a whole bunch of directions we can go in after that," the developer told us in an interview earlier in the year.
The game was the first third-party title announced to support cross-platform play between PC and Xbox 360.

But with the developer saying previously it plans to release a new one for the MMORPG on a yearly basis, it's surely aiming to get Lich King out early next year.

Blizzard's popped the lid on the Battlecuiser, a "massive, heavily armoured combat ship" that features in its RTS follow-up StarCraft II. You can clap eyes on the unit in screenshots right here on this page.
Armed with laser batteries, Yamato cannon and plasma torpedoes, the Battlecruiser's a "virtual flying fortresses, built to keep the peace and dominate the space lanes of the Koprulu sector" and Blizzard adds that "these imposing vessels are among the most powerful to be found in terran space."
The developer's gone on to flesh out the unit's background and, in addition to releasing the screenshots we're showing here there's a couple of Battlecruiser movies to be seen on the official StarCraft II website.

Earlier this year, we heard that NASA gurus were working up a biological nanobattery that utilized ferritin, and now another report is suggesting that the substance could even be used in a "biotech-based process for creating ultrathin computer memory."
Reportedly, the researchers have found that by using ferritin, metal memory cells could be arranged on substrates sans heat, which consequently allows for thinner substrate materials to be used. The method could eventually lead to "computers being built on thin films that could then be integrated into eyeglass lenses or into clothing," which could add a whole new dimension to wearable electronics.

DJ notes that TechARP has up a look at Intel's plans to rebrand their processors, including what must be a leaked internal chart of the old and new landscape of product names. This story doesn't seem to have been picked up anywhere else yet. Quoting:
"We just heard from an anonymous source that Intel will be rebranding their processors in 2008... These new brand names will come into effect on the first day of 2008. Intel hopes that these new brands will not only leverage the strong Core 2 brand but also make it less confusing for the consumer. At the moment, the Intel Centrino mobile platform has five different logos with brands like Centrino, Centrino Duo and Centrino Pro. Starting from January 1, 2008, Intel will consolidate the Centrino Duo and Centrino brands under the Intel Centrino brand, and rename the Centrino Pro as Intel Centrino with vPro Technology."

Prior to AMD-ATI's Radeon HD 2000 series introduction, rumors circulated regarding an ultra-high clocked ATI R600-based card, that featured a large 1GB frame buffer. Some even went so far as to say the GPU would be clocked near 1GHz. When the R600 arrived in the form of the Radeon HD 2900 XT, it was outfitted with 'only' 512MB of frame buffer memory and its GPU and memory clock speeds didn't come close to the numbers in those early rumors.
Some of AMD's partners, however, have since decided to introduce R600-based products that do feature 1GB frame buffers, like the Diamond Viper HD 2900 XT 1GB in both single-card and CrossFire configurations. At 2GHz DDR, the memory on the card is also clocked higher than AMD's reference designs but the GPU remains clocked at 742MHz.

Just a week ago, reports were cropping up regarding Microsoft's decision to give Vista Business / Ultimate customers a "downgrade to XP" option amidst complaints over its latest operating system. Now, the Redmond powerhouse has decided to "keep selling Windows XP until the end of June 2008, delaying a scheduled transition to its newer Windows Vista software by five months."
Originally, the planned phase out date for XP was January 30th of next year, but now the firm has decided to "extend XP sales in response to feedback from computer manufacturers who said there were customers who still wanted to buy the older operating system."
Of note, Mike Nash, a Microsoft corporate vice president, was quoted as saying that the company was "a little ambitious to think that it would need to make Windows XP available for only a year after the release of Windows Vista," referring to the fact that it typically makes its older OS available for two years after the launch of a new one.

Enemy Territory: Quake Wars has splashed down in the UK today and there's already a patch out.
The v1.1 update marks the beginning of Splash Damage's post-release support for the game, and is "pretty small and contains a few things that will improve your Enemy Territory: Quake Wars experience", it's explained on the official community website.
Quake Wars players should receive the patch through the game's auto-updater, although download mirrors have been provided just in case.
The update addresses the following:
- Updated Linux client compatibility
- Fixed performance drop of soft particles on some graphics cards
- Removed XP award for destroying newly spawned vehicles (spawn camping)
- Improved bot control of the GDF Titan Tank
- Fixed dedicated LAN server administrators reverting to default group on map change
- Fixed players occasionally not being able to change the mission they are on
- Server Launcher now clears the map rotation when changing game mode
- Fixed localized clients reverting to unlocalized if player starts a lite server on the same PC
- Fixed image pure check (anti-cheating) erroneously failing for MegaTextures

As a little teaser for a forthcoming interview with GSC on S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Cleary Sky which we'll be publishing soon, we're posting up a couple of exclusive screenshots from the prequel. Take a gander.
Comparing Clear Sky to Shadow of Chernobyl, GSC says that it's new game "is going to be a step forward for actually every game aspect, and now done from the perspective of immense experience gained by the team during the original game development."
(Potential spoiler alert)...
In terms of plot, the prequel explains what happened to Strelok during his early escapades into the Zone and at the same time presents an alternative look onto events of the original game, the dev's explained.
"You will play a different character this time, a mercenary stalker. who, against his will becomes involved in global events in the Zone. Eventually, the player will have to not only keep an eye on Strelok's doings but actually oppose him".

Descend down the Eurogamer TV escalator and you will find a new exclusive Hellgate: London trailer detailing the Charing Cross station area in the game.
It follows on from last week's guided tour of the Covent Garden tube station by developer Flagship Studios, who showed us the importance of these everyday destinations in the action role-playing title.
They act like little towns to house the survivors of the hellish holocaust, where adventurers can group up, receive quests, and buy things to hit baddies with.
But Charing Cross isn't as well protected as Covent Garden, so 21 adjoining and infested zones will be tougher to conquer, housing ghoulish treats of their own.
You also might like to know that Charing Cross was given its name after King Edward I placed a cross in the Charing hamlet in memorial to his wife, Eleanor of Castile. It is also officially recognised as the centre of London.

ArchLord, a persistent online role-playing game from Codemasters, has grown by more than 600 percent since it went to a free-to-play subscription model in August, and the company has opened a new server to accommodate the increase in membership.
To promote the launch of the new server, Evengarda, Codemasters is planning a week-long treasure hunt in which "hundreds of silver, gold and platinum chests will be spread far and wide across the new world."
ArchLord is a fantasy-themed RPG set in a medieval-style world. Every month one player gains control of the world and with it the opportunity to wreak havoc as they are crowned supreme ArchLord. As an ArchLord, players can levy taxes, curse players and control the skies on their dragon mount.

At 8pm tonight you'll be able to read a review of Splash Damage's Enemy Territory: Quake Wars right here on the site. But take a look at these movies first...
However, as a little teaser before the review hits - and indeed the game tomorrow - we present you with gameplay footage from the retail version of the game that we've caught on video.
Seeing as we like being in the thick of the action, we've opted to play the Soldier class (titled Agressor on the Strogg side of the war), one of the five available, that comes with all sorts of fun weapons - like a rocket launcher. Wahey!
The videos come from two battlefields out the 12 available, Outskirts and Area 22. The fomer's the level with leaden skies, and the scenario for the map reads thus: the Strogg have deployed a high ranking databrain to oversee construction of a major new facility. The GDF must attack the Strogg defences, steal the databrain and take it to a transmitter for analysis by GDF high command.
Area 22 meanwhile, where the sun shines down on war, finds the Strogg attempting to destroy a slipgate that's been captured by the GDF before the GDF can uncover the slipgate's secrets.
Sit back and enjoy the clips and don't forget to check back at 8pm for the review.

Midway America has shown of the contents of the Unreal Tournament 3 collector's edition on PC.
Inside the fancy tin will be a hard cover art book covering concept drawings for vehicles, characters, weapons and environments. There will also be a bonus DVD featuring the history of Unreal Tournament, behind the scenes footage, and over 10 hours of toolkit tutorials to help you build your mods.
The package will go on sale for USD 59.95 [£30 approx.], and will be available in Europe, South Africa, Russia and "most other territories". Midway Europe has yet to get back to us about a price.
Yesterday Epic Games confirmed that PC and PS3 owners of the game wouldn't be able to play together at launch. Lengthy console certification processes were to blame, and the developer wasn't prepared to hold back content from its PC user base in order to deliver it to the PS3 crowd at the same time.
Unreal Tournament 3 will be released in November on PS3 and PC, followed by a 360 version next year.

Soulstorm will be the third expansion in the acclaimed Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War series.
The standalone pack is co-developed by Relic and Iron Lore Entertainment (of Titan Quest fame), and is due to release sometime next spring.
It will add two new factions to the real-time strategy mix - one has been named as the Dark Eldar - and well introduce air units, multiplayer medal achievements, and wars that span across different planets. All that from a little lead figure and fiddly pot of paint. Well I never.
"In Dawn of War - Soulstorm, we've taken Games Workshop's epic war from one planet to an entire star system," said Tarrnie Williams, big dreadnought-like chief at Relic.
"Allowing gamers to play nine unique races, introducing air units and providing multiplayer achievements for the first time creates a tremendous amount of new and challenging strategic gameplay for all players."
Dawn of War originally launched in 2004. Relic followed it up a year later with first expansion Winter Assault, before adding Dark Crusade to the series in 2006.
