Newly released today:
description
In 1931, Winston Churchill was hit by a taxi in New York. In the real world, he survived, and went on to rally the British people to fight the Nazi threat. But what if he hadn’t?
It’s from this premise that Fall Of Liberty takes it’s theme - without Churchill’s leadership, Europe and the United Kingdom have fallen to Hitler’s forces. By 1951, using crushing technical superiority, the United States is invaded and defeated by the Third Reich.
With this setting, Fall Of Liberty will be an FPS experience like no other; a game that’s both a World War 2 FPS and something different. Fighting not as a soldier, but a resistance fighter in a United States of America that’s under the rule of a foreign power.
Exclusive to next-generation platforms and PC, Fall Of Liberty breathes new life into the FPS genre.

According to the French site BlogEEE.net, Asus has a reworked Eee PC on the way. While the casing will have the same dimensions as the original Eee, the 900 will feature a larger 8.9" screen (up from 7"), an unspecified faster processor, 1GB memory standard (up from 512MB) and SSD storage options as high as 12GB (up from 8GB). But the sticker price (in Europe) has seen an increase from €299 to €399. We've contacted Asus to confirm the information and will keep you updated.

NextGenBooks.com (yes, but stick with it) has launched Warrior Quest, a browser-based single-player RPG "in a similar vein to classic games Dragon Quest and Phantasy Star".
It's free, playable in a window on the website, and NGB's claim is that it's optimised to run on Wii and PS3 web-browsers, with a PSP edition due to launch this month.
One of the reasons why it's suitable for these platforms is that, for now at least, it's a bit on the basic side. That's why NGB plans to include new and revamped animations in its first content update on 2nd April, we'd wager.
Also in that will be new Battle Cards (the game uses a card-based battle system), and the first bit of a new story mode.
Further infusions of content will then go live monthly "until the end of this year".
At the moment, you play as a young "Battle Master" exploring a fantasy world, beating people and things up, upgrading your skills and unlocking new bits of the map.
NextGenBooks.com says it plans to do more content like this in future.

Gears of War creator and faux-chainsaw-gun wielder Cliff Blezinski made some pretty disparaging (if not slightly true) comments about the state of PC gaming to MTV Multiplayer's Stephen Totilo at last month's DICE summit in Las Vegas -- leading to to his illustrated immolation on a webcomic a few of you have probably heard of. At GDC, StevieT got another chance to sit down with CliffyB, this time with fellow Epic bigwig Mark Rein (MarkyR?) to flesh out the problems plaguing the PC gaming industry.
The two never backtrack on CliffyB's original statement, but they do express their fervent support for the PC Gaming Alliance -- a sentiment which will hopefully cause anti-console gamers to dismantle any ballistic weaponry they may have pointed at Cliffy's residence. We do so want a Gears of War 3.

You can't blame these guys for trying to milk the Eee PC, and Asus is doing just that with its new smorgasboard of Eee PC accessories. Most interesting is the Ai Guru U1 VoIP phone. It plugs in with USB, and in addition to letting you make calls to all your broke-ass friends, you can also use it to browse and listen to music stored on the Eee PC. Next up is the Eee AP, which acts as a 802.11g wireless access point and little else -- think AirPort Express minus the sexy. The USB "3.5G HSDPA Card" is just as straightforward, with GSM900 / 1800 / 1900 and WCDMA2100 / 1900 / 850, and download speeds up to 3.6Mbps. The slim DVD-RW drive and the totally generic headsets aren't spicing things up either, which you can probably tell is par for the course here. There's no word on price or availability for any of these yet, but we're guessing none of them will break the bank -- they sure don't look it.

Richard Bannister has converted certain emulators to run on Mac.
Changelog:
BSNES, Emulator Enhancer, Oswan, and SMS Plus have all been updated. Here are the changes:
- (BSNES) Fixed an unfortunate bug in the previous release that caused sound to go badly off kilter after about fifteen minutes of play.
- (Enhancer) Tweaked the behaviour of the Prioritise speed over smoothness option to improve sound quality when VBL sync is on.
- (Oswan) Massively improved compatibility and sound brought on by synchronising elements of a number of different forks of the original Oswan project.
- (Shell) Changed the default preferences to turn brushed metal off by default, since it looks pretty hideous under 10.5 or later.
- (Shell) Made some slight adjustments to the behaviour of the "Prioritise speed over smoothness" option.
- (SMS Plus) Fixed issue where region setting in preferences was always ignored.
- (SMS Plus) YM2413 sound core preference was reversed. Fixed.
- (SMS Plus) YM2413 sound now works again. Note that you must have Domestic (Japanese) hardware enabled for this to work.
These will probably be the last updates for a little while, as I'm off to Australia for a two week holiday next weekend, and after my return I'm going to do the next few Microsoft exams. Still, no worries, eh?

New version of the MSX emulator for PC.
Changelog:
- gfx: fixed DDraw renderer border refresh bug
- input: corrected keyboard matrix quirk
- changed power-on timing, to prevent "A Life M36 Planet" from locking up
- added movie time code view option on play/record (hh:mm:ss;ff)
- vdp: you can now disable/enable sprite and tile layers
- vdp: added unlimited sprites option. This eliminates sprite flickering on most games, without affecting core accuracy: collision and overflow bits still work the same. Games that use overflow as a trick to hide sprite lines, like Athletic Land when falling into the water, will show glitches.
- sound: added "triple buffering" to prevent overflows on longer frames
- timing: speed up setting is now in percentage instead of integer multiply
- timing: added slowdown feature, working similar to speed up (default: F10)
- gfx: auto save palette didn't work
- input: added "invert" function for axes
- input: limited the speed of DInput reads, instead of always at every vblank. It sometimes returned wrong values in fast forward mode.
- timing: added direct control over frame speed/reverse with an analogue axis, by default mouse Y axis while holding F10 + F12. I call it DJ scratching, since it kind of resembles that.
- added AMD flash memory emulation, and Matra's INK mapper. One INK cartridge died in the process (no, not inkjet), curses were heard as far away as planet Gradius.
- fixed crash when opening an SCC game by drag-dropping, while that same SCC game was already running

News/release from the ScummVM Site:
ScummVM continues to leap forward in a leap year, and we are pleased to announce the next shiny bugfix release of the project.
As usual, it holds a number of improvements, it's more stable, and it should bring you even more fun than 0.11.0.
We fixed the digital iMUSE system (better COMI experience), King's Quest 4 bugs were squashed, and support for fanmade AGI games has been improved; Lure of the Temptress, Inherit the Earth and I Have no Mouth all work better since we fixed several crashes, lock-ups and all such buzzwords.
As a special bonus we are glad to announce the return of the BeOS port and the deeply missed Playstation 2 port.
ScummVM is a program which allows you to run certain classic graphical point-and-click adventure games, provided you already have their data files. The clever part about this: ScummVM just replaces the executables shipped with the games, allowing you to play them on systems for which they were never designed!
Some of the adventures ScummVM supports include Adventure Soft's Simon the Sorcerer 1 and 2; Revolution's Beneath A Steel Sky, Broken Sword 1 and Broken Sword 2; Flight of the Amazon Queen; Wyrmkeep's Inherit the Earth; Coktel Vision's Gobliiins; Westwood Studios' The Legend of Kyrandia and games based on LucasArts' SCUMM (Script Creation Utility for Maniac Mansion) system such as Monkey Island, Day of the Tentacle, Sam and Max and more.
Heres whats new:
Ports:
- Revived the PS2 port.
- Revived the BeOS port.
SCUMM:
- Improvements for Digital iMUSE subsystem. This fixes several glitches in The Curse of Monkey Island.
- Fixes for cursors in HE games.
AGI:
- Fix for zombies in King's Quest 4.
- Fix for changing palettes in fanmade games using AGIPAL.
Lure:
- Fixed some conversation crashes in the German version.
- Fixed operation of the optional copy protection dialog in the German version.
- Added saving of conversation flags as to whether a particular conversation option had been previously selected or not.
- Fixed glitch that could cause transformation sparkle to happen a second time.
- Fixed behavior of Goewin when you rejoin her after meeting the dragon.
SAGA:
- Fix for rat maze bug in Inherit the Earth which made game not completable.
- Fixes for Inherit the Earth and I Have no Mouth game startup on a number of platforms.
- Reduced the number of simultaneous open files in I Have no Mouth, to allow it to run on platforms that can keep a limited amount of files open (e.g. on the PSP).
- Fixed graphics glitch in Inherit the Earth with simultaneous speech.
- Fixed palette glitch in Inherit the Earth when looking at the map while at the docks.

Best Way's Men of War is a sequel of sorts to its surprisingly good Soldiers: Heroes of World War II on PC, so it's one to keep an eye on if you were a fan of the latter game. New screenshots have been released.
Set in WWII - obviously - the game spans Europe, Africa and the Pacific and features three separate campaigns played from the viewpoint of Soviet, Allied and German forces. Similar to Soldiers, the storyline will focus on individual fighters caught up in the war.
Men of War should be with us later this year.

Microsoft has announced that it plans to cut the price of the Windows Vista operating system at retail level in over 70 countries later this year.
The move, to be made alongside the release of the long-awaited Service Pack 1 patch, is being made to try and stimulate a greater number of customers to upgrade from older operating systems.
According to a Reuters report Vista currently accounts for less than 10 per cent of shop- or web-bought products licensed, although new PCs generally come pre-loaded with the software now.
In the US Vista Ultimate will fall in price from USD 399 to USD 319, while the upgrade price will drop from USD 259 to USD 219.
At the same time Vista Home Premium will see its price cut from USD 159 to USD 129 in the US, while in emerging markets the company plans to drop upgrade editions of the software altogether and sell the full versions at the upgrade price points instead.
Microsoft corporate VP Brad Brooks said that he was confident the influx of new customers would offset the reduction in income from lower prices following a three-month promotional trial.
Meanwhile Bloomberg is reporting that Microsoft has admitted to changing its Vista certification process in order to help chip manufacturer Intel meet its quarterly earnings estimates.
According to an email from John Kalkman, a Microsoft general manager on hardware relations, Microsoft "lowered the requirements to help Intel make their quarterly earnings, so they could continue to sell motherboards with 915 graphics embedded" - problematic because the 915 chipset is unable to handle some elements of Vista's graphical demands.
But Intel has denied those claims, with a spokesperson countering: "With respect to the statement in the email from one John Kalkman, we have no idea who he is and we are absolutely certain he would have zero visibility into Intel's financials, Intel's financial forecasts or anything to do with any particular quarter at any time.''
