Well, that didn't take long -- just a few hours after Intel confirmed that those hot new 45nm Penryn processors are shipping, Alienware blasted out a press release announcing the Area-51 ALX CF, the first machine to use the new chips.
The QX9650-equipped machines can be ordered overclocked up to 4.0GHz, and Alienware also bumped the graphics to dual CrossFire ATI Radeon HD 3870 cards. All that power won't come cheap, though -- the CF line starts at $5499 [£2770].

Hellgate: London's experienced a rocky launch. Problems have ranged from players levelling criticism at the game mechanics through to a percentage of those opting to subscribe for extra content finding credit cards double-charged (an issue which has now been resolved, according to Flagship).
In response to the upheaval, Flagship has outlined its current top priorities for the game and promises that it's working hard to address issues. A forum post reads as follows:
Dear Customers,
We realize many of you are experiencing a variety of problems. We at Flagship and Ping0 are working hard to address these issues.
Our current top priorities are:
- Resolving any remaining problems related to billing and subscriptions.
- Fixing two known bugs which cause players to sometimes lose items (one related to dual focus/dual melee, and one related to loading issues).
- Making improvements to memory usage in order to reduce "Memory Exhausted" crashes.
- Fixing a known issue with the user interface which causes the application to lock up intermittently.* An issue which occasionally prevents characters from being able to load or switch instances.
- General chat interface improvements. (Many improvements are in the works).
- Random disconnects and lag.
- Allowing higher resolution textures and models for other players.
- Various known problems with being able to continue interrupted side quests.
- Remnant quest items not getting destroyed and "clogging" up inventory.
- Continued problems with saving / loading Engineer Drone items.
- Invisible party members.
- The nanoforge not correctly improving rare and better armors.
- Getting stuck on collision.
Some of these are issues which will be fixed as soon as possible and go live in upcoming patches, some will be in our upcoming content patch, and others are issues on which we will make gradual improvements to on a continuous basis.
Of course we also have a more extensive bug list as well as lot of general improvements and new content in the works. Everyone here is
working full-time to support Hellgate. We appreciate your patience.
-The Hellgate: London team

It looks like those that prefer their keyboards as unconventional as possible could soon have a new option to consider from Wolf King, which has just seen its latest less-than-ergonomic wonder pass through the FCC.
From the looks of it, this one boasts a good deal of similarities to the Wolf Claw keyboard we saw a while back, minus the full-size QWERTY keyboard. That gets replaced by a jumble of keys that could probably be used to actually type something in a pinch, although we're guessing you'll want to have another keyboard as a backup.
According to the manual, you can also expect a pair of extra USB ports, seven customizable hotkeys and, of course, some blue backlighting to really make it stand out on your desk. No word on a price or release but, as you can see above, it sure looks about ready to roll out the door.

Eyes alive for new screenshots from Sudden Strike 3: Arms For Victory, which we've plastered all over this page (all 49 of them).
Like previous games in the PC RTS series, Sudden Strike 3 sticks with World War II and apparently "will push the boundaries of the RTS genre with some notable interface innovations, huge troop numbers [battlefields can handle up to 1000 units] and enormous map designs that will demonstrate that size does matter."
Sudden Strike 3's singleplayer action is spread over six campaigns with British, American and Russian, German and Japanese land, air and naval forces represented.
The sequel's out at the end of the month on the 30th, at which point in time you should keep eyes glued to CVG for a saucy Sudden Strike 3-related competition.

Twentieth Century Fox has approached Mark Wahlberg to star in its Max Payne film, according to a report.
He looks set to play the role of the tough cop whose wife and child are brutally murdered by drug addicts, prompting him to go on a hell-bent rampage eventually uncovering the evil mastermind behind it all.
According to Variety, Max Payne will be put together by Behind Enemy Lines and and The Omen director John Moore, and be based on a script written by Beau Thorne.
Filming is due to begin early next year.
Max Payne was a PC game by Finnish outfit Remedy Entertainment that introduced bullet-time gunplay to the wonderful world of gaming.
Remedy Entertainment is currently working on Alan Wake, an action adventure game based around a writer who is losing his marbles and some spooky spectre-things that come out when the sun goes down.
It is due for release sometime next year, but nothing has been heard about it for a while.

Hellgate might be a bit like Diablo and similar to Titan Quest, but then it is made by ex-Blizzard staff. Besides, Diablo was fantastic anyway - and now we have sumptuous graphics to dress it in.
The game has been out for a week already and we have given you our review, but to take it one step further we thought we would capture footage of us playing it to give you an idea of what you can really expect.
The English footage, best served with fish and chips, shows our heroic warrior Bertie go from creation to world renowned hero. Along the way he levels up - as you might expect - and fiddles around with skill trees, statistics and his inventory. He also chats to other people in tube stations to gather-up some quests and ventures through a hellgate to take on some big, named nasties.
Key points to notice are how skilful this Bertie character is at dispatching the hordes of demons, as he uses his left-click attack that restores health over time for each enemy killed, and right-stick blade flurry-like ability - as well as medical kits and some other attack, too. That is just the tip of the iceberg, too, and it all gets bigger and more complicated as you go.
Not content with that footage, then you can head over to Eurogamer Germany and Eurogamer France for an alternative look at what we got up to. No two videos are the same, you should remember, so each time you plug-in you will be rewarded.
Hellgate: London was released last Friday to solid critical reception - pop over to our review to find out more.

Blizzard has whipped the wraps off its upcoming content patch 2.3 for World of Warcraft.
The biggest feature is a 10-man raid instance lurking in the Ghostlands called Zul'Aman, an outdoor dungeon probably not too dissimilar to Zul'Gurub all those many moons ago. There will be six bosses to murder for epics, each bearing the aspect of a different ferocious creature.
Forest troll leader Zul'jin will meet you for the final showdown, but Blizzard also wants to offer returning raid groups a challenge with bonus rewards for completing time-limited objectives.
On top of all the new goodies in Zul'Aman there will be a full set of new Honour, Badge of Justice and gladiator rewards to buy, and Engineers will now be able to build themselves fancy Flying Machine mounts.
Elsewhere Guild Banks let you keep track of and organise your stocks much more efficiently, the Auction House has been revamped so it is easier to use, and you will be able to pick up daily quests so you have something to keep you from falling asleep as you go back to the same dungeons or battlegrounds again and again.
The old 40-man Alterac Valley battleground has been fiddled with, too, so it should now have extra added fun, and those of you around the mid-level mark should head to Dustwallow Marsh for new quests and speedy levelling.
Speaking of speedy levelling, Blizzard has made it much easier to get to 60. Not only do you require less experience to go up a rank now, but you will also be given bigger amounts of experience as a reward for completing quests between levels 30-60.
Healers worried you are a bit wimpy compared to a Fury Warrior or something will be pleased to know that one third of your bonus healing will go towards your spell damage now, and the skill rating on items is being replaced by a new statistic called Expertise.
This takes into account how adept you are with your weapon, and reduces the chance that your opponent will dodge, block or parry your blow.
Full patch notes are expected soon, so keep your eyes on the official European World of Warcraft site.
Further down the line Blizzard is looking to implement an high-end 25-man raid instance called Sunwell Plateau located north of Silvermoon City.
It is also keen to keep adding five-man content so you can find an adequate challenge and get good rewards without spending your life playing the game. Not that I ever did that.

Telltale Games is so excited about Season Two of Sam & Max that it is giving away a free episode from the first series. But that's suicide!
Episode 4: Abe Lincoln Must Die is the instalment in question, and you have permission to digitally steal it from the Telltale website right now.
You may remember that this is the story where detective dog and rampant rabbit have to stop a crackers president being ordered around by some other malicious power. Only you can get to the bottom of this. Save the world, you ought to.
Sam & Max: Season One was a wonderful compilation that showed just how enjoyable a truly episodic series could be. You can get the entire six episodes now over on the official website.

Midway and Epic Games have finally pencilled a European release date of November 23 for the PC version of Unreal Tournament 3. Nothing about PS3 though...
The news arrived this afternoon ahead of tomorrow's official UK launch event, going down in the glamorous Omega Sektor in Birmingham, where Epic VP Mark Rein will be chatting away and kicking off a gigantic PC tournament with prizes and everything. We plan to play UT and get drunk, anyway.
The progress of the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions meanwhile is still very much up in the air, although the PlayStation version's planned to arrive first due to a pen and paper agreement between Epic and Sony.
Look for slurred words on what went on at the launch event tomorrow. Knowing Midway, it's going to be messy.

These latest Kane & Lynch: Dead Men screenshots to escape Eidos are action snaps from the game's twelfth chapter, Havana (which explains the really awful joke above).
It wasn't that long ago that Eidos blew the lid off Kane & Lynch multiplayer, which it had been keeping oh-so-secret since the game's announcement. The multiplayer mode's even got its own subtitle - Fragile Alliance - and is essentially a co-operative bank heist where the killing of team mates is not only possible, it's encouraged.
Our hands-on report reveals plenty more.
Kane & Lynch: Dead Men is out on November 23 on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

THQ has confirmed to Eurogamer that it now has the rights to the Homeworld brand, although it's cagey over what exactly it is doing with it.
"THQ currently owns Relic, which in turn means that we now have the rights to the Homeworld brand," a spokesperson for THQ told us, echoing a statement made to Next Generation.
"However, at this time we have no comment on any future games from THQ based on Homeworld."
Yesterday keen-eyed Internet detectives dredged-up legal papers showing that THQ was now calling the Homeworld shots rather than Vivendi.
THQ acquired developer Relic Entertainment back in 2004, and has since released the critically acclaimed Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War and Company of Heroes series of games.

New from Play Asia
For nearly seven thousand years, the high elves cultivated a shining magical kingdom deep within the forests of northern Lordaeron. But five years ago, the undead Scourge invaded Quel'Thalas and drove the elves to the brink of extinction. Led by the evil death knight Arthas, the Scourge destroyed the mystical Sunwell, thereby severing the elves from the source of their arcane power.
Though the scars of that conflict are evident, the remaining elves have banded together and retaken much of their homeland. Calling themselves "blood elves," these grim survivors are committed to regaining the vast powers they once commanded. Inspired by the leadership of their beloved prince, Kael'thas Sunstrider, the blood elves now seek out new sources of arcane magic and the means of defending their land against the undying horrors of the Scourge.

Newly released at Play Asia;
features
A New Perspective on RPGs: Combining the depth and customizability of role-playing games with the action of shooters played from the first-person perspective, Hellgate is fast-paced but does not rely upon lightning-fast reflexes.
Unique and Appealing World: Whether adventuring alone or banding together with friends, explore the ominous setting of post-apocalyptic London. From ancient ruins buried beneath the streets, to shattered cathedrals, to the last remnants of humanity bunkered in the city's fabled underground, the lines of fact and myth are blurred as a few glorious heroes fight for their very souls.
Character Classes: Fight against the demons of the underworld as one of several unique character classes. Like the Templar, each class has a unique visual and gameplay style based on their particular history and place in the world. Randomly generated items that can be modified in numerous ways ensure that heroes are distinct and individualized.
Hell on Earth: Battle against a wide variety of demonic enemies, each with their own unique attributes, abilities, and vulnerabilities.
Infinite Re-playability: With dynamically generated levels, massive quantities of randomly created items, chance events and story-driven quests, no two gaming experiences are ever the same. Differing levels of rarity and modification potential across items and skills means that every game played is a unique event.
Single-Player and Online Multiplayer Support: While Hellgate: London stands on its own as a single player game, it also provides a compelling cooperative multiplayer experience through our dedicated online gaming destination. By creating unique and individualized gameplay “instances” within a vast online community, gamers get all the best parts of traditional massively multiplayer games without the common downsides.

A Bethesda employee currently designing levels for the developer's forthcoming RPG Fallout 3 has been playing around with Portal map creation.
Daryl Brigner has created a level for Valve's first-person puzzle-'em-up called Ren_Test2.
We've not zapped holes in the map ourselves as yet, but judging by comments that have been spouted it's a clever design but will test your Portal powers to the limit.
Ren_Test2 can be downloaded here.
Valve's Portal has gone down a storm. It forms part of the developer's recently released Orange Box of gaming goodies.
