Auran Games has stuck a much-needed plaster over some of Fury's gaping wounds.
Dubbed Age of the Chosen, its biggest features cater towards easing new players in and slowing things down a bit, moving towards a kebab-shop brawl rather than Bruce Lee fist explosion.
Carnage helps here, a new battle type that pits four of you against four. But instead of killing each other, the goal is to massacre as many computer-brained enemies as possible, with the winner flaunting the highest body count. On top of this is a head-to-head Elimination mode to introduce you to Fury proper, asking you to juggle offensive and defensive abilities for the perfect murderous mix.
These new battle modes and Bloodbath Training Grounds will make up a revitalised tutorial, which not only gives you more information on how to cut your opponent into pieces, but also asks that you complete five matches before you can join everybody else. It's repeatable, too, just in case you feel like everything is moving a bit quickly, and there is a wide variety of bot classes to fight to hone your tactics.
Underlying mechanics have been changed, too, increasing the global cool down of your abilities to 1.3 seconds and pumping your health from 25000 to 3000. It should all make for a little more breathing space, although a new Combat Fatigue debuff will cut healing power over time - making it more effective the longer you slog it out.
Joining it is a fresh Sprint ability to close down your opponents quicker; Liberate to break crowd control or debilitating effects like root, stun and mesmerise; Elemental Purge to strip yourself of charges and counteract manipulation attacks; and Elemental Immunity to make you invulnerable to said manipulating fiends.
Elsewhere you should now be able to get all of your abilities from a couple of computer-characters rather than a handful, abilities equipped should now say as much in the ability list, entire combat logs can be saved for revision, and ladders of all matches will be displayed at the end of every match.
Auran has also improved the user interface to make it all more intuitive and less like wrestling a gerbil, as well as got to grips with an enormous pile of bugs and tweaks to overall performance.
It's a healthy dose of changes, but then Fury needed exactly that, being far too hectic, clumsy and unoptimised for out liking. Still, an MMORPG can change considerably over its lifetime, so it is worth keeping an eye on if the original player versus player premise tickled your fancy.

First details on Crysis 2 have found their way onto the internet in the wake of Crytek boss Cevat Yerli explaining the FPS has been designed as a trilogy.
According to a report on fansite inCrysis - via GameStar.de - Crytek lead animator Steven Bender has let slip that the developer will focus even greater attention on graphics for the sequel, a translation from German explaining, "Their ambitious aim is to push the game's visuals to an advanced level, that could be considered near photorealistic movie quality."
A tiny plot detail is additionally given - that the sequel will concentrate on more than battles with aliens and Korean military. Which, you probably would have guessed at anyway.
And that's your lot for now...

Star Trek MMO, Star Trek Online, has apparently switched target audience following the acquisition of the property by what's reportedly a media company looking to break into videogames.
This follows the liquidation of the assets of the game's developer Perpetual Entertainment in October, according to ShackNews.
Says the site, a well-placed source has informed it that "Along with the acquisition comes a partial retargeting of Star Trek Online to what our source describes as a 'more casual' experience".
It's speculated this could mean that the unknown company now in charge of Star Trek Online could opt for a micro-transaction model for the game rather than use the traditional monthly subscription method.
Wonder how much the USS Enterprise would cost...

Flagship has slopped out plans to introduce a new patch for its action role-playing title Hellgate: London later this week.
Mysteriously dubbed 0.6, its most prominent superpower is the ability to stop group members disappearing - helpful when killing zombies from hell.
The developer has also gotten to grips with the Engineer Drone unequipping items, a result of buffing your items so they are better than you could normally use, causing issues if you put them on in a funny order. Not everything is peachy here just yet, but it has made a start and will keep picking at it until it is fixed.
Elsewhere there are lots of performance tweaks you should probably delve into on the official site.
Lastly, patch 0.7 is in development and contains some surprises for those of you paying subscriptions. No clues right now, but we will keep you posted as they pop up.
Quest your way over to our Hellgate: London review for more information.

THQ and Relic have enlisted a new demo for Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts to the ranks of the Internet.
It fills its uniform at 2GB, and whisks you back off to World War II as us Allies floated en masse down behind enemy lines in Operation Market Garden, before being plucked out of the sky in an elaborate game of duck hunt by the Germans.
You fill the metal seats of the Panzer division in this case, and get to sample a couple of missions from the full game.
Opposing Fronts is a standalone expansion for Company of Heroes that was released back in September. Along with the Panzer division you get to play as the Brits liberating Caen in France. We swear more, too, thus better.
There are numerous other bits and bobs, but it is these two differing factions that bring the most refreshments to the table. It is a little less accessible than the original campaign and suffers because of it. However, a definite try for those even mildly interested, even if its single-player is but a stepping stone to the main multiplayer event.

Yes, Blizzard's announced that you can now change your WoW in-game moniker, however it'll cost you six quid for the privilege. And of course there's the fact that, with so many players in the MMO, every decent name's already been taken so you'll be left with coming up with something equally daft as your original effort.
Name changing can be done in Account Management via the official WoW website.
Will you be taking advantage of this new feature? Let us know in the comments below...

The New World Assembly (TNWA) Group has released its proprietary anti-cheat platform, X-ray, to anybody that wants to use it for regulation of online games - for free.
The software, which cost over USD 1 million to develop, is currently used by the company's own tournament site Enemydown.
X-ray works by monitoring an individual's PC during play, and if it detects any irregularities it then sends a report and screenshot - anybody caught cheating will then be held in a database and prevented from taking part in future games using the software.
TNWA CEO Paul Sulyok explained the decision to GamesIndustry.biz.
"The reason why this came about is because we had a number of smaller leagues and tournaments in the UK, the States and in Australia who approached us asking to borrow the anti-cheat software that we had.
"We're not in the game of saying 'no, you can't have it, everyone's got to play in our tournaments,' so we sat down and tried to come up with a solution whereby people could use the anti-cheat technology that we built, and are updating an improving on an ongoing basis.
"It's about community, it's about nurturing and helping the community - and the community helps each other. We've had a number of companies help us out in the past, and there's absolutely no reason why we shouldn't feed that back in to help other communities grow as well."
Anybody wishing to download the software can do so at no cost, but will need to register at the X-ray web site.

Rumour is circulating that Capcom's Xbox 360 undead splatterfest Dead Rising is heading to PC.
Apparently, the rumour has originated from what's reportedly a bit of a slip up by an Italian game distributor that distributes Capcom's games in, er, Italy.
We spoke to Capcom UK about the rumour earlier this morning. "No comment", was the reply.
But with Capcom now bringing games to PC - such as Lost Planet and Devil May Cry 4 - perhaps there's truth lurking in the Dead Rising gossip.
Dead Rising sees photojournalist Frank West following a lead to a local shopping mall where reports suggest a tide of undead zombies has been sighted.
It's up to you to fight through the groaning masses in a bid to uncover the truth behind the mysterious zombie outbreak - all before your helicopter ride out of the hell hole arrives in seventy-two hours time.

New version of the PC-Engine emulator for Windows 2000, XP and Vista.
Changelog:

- The capacity of default of the sound buffer was reduced. As a result, "Timing that the sound rings" has approached a real machine.
- Processing that plays CD sound source (CD-DA) has been improved. At the sound test of "Akumajou Dracula X", When the tune was selected, the problem that had stopped occasionally was solved.
- In "Order of the Griffon", "Ryuuko no Ken" and "Asuka120%", the image quality has been improved (The burr is cut). And, the processing part was sped up.

No new details on Eidos' Conflict: Denied Ops have trickled out but here's a bit of eye candy to entertain you.
For those who have missed out on previous info, the gameplay revolves around two-man tactics. Denied Ops is being handled by Conflict series developer Pivotal Games, which has a pretty solid track record with the games (although they've always been bigger on console than PC).
Conflict: Denied Ops hits PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 next year.

The Warhammer 40,000 universe is amazing, and it's been a blast getting the chance to work on Dawn of War: Soulstorm.
Below I'll describe some of the exciting Dark Eldar and Sisters of Battle units we're bringing to you in this new chapter of Dawn of War, explaining exactly what makes them tick and how they stand out in a universe full of genetically enhanced super soldiers, undead killing machines, and millions of battle-hardened Orks.
Dark Eldar Archon/Incubi Retinue
Consumed by dark passions and fueled by fury, the Dark Eldar do not submit easily to any master. Yet even amongst such decadence and power, there are those few whose vileness and cunning stand above all.
It is these Dark Eldar who, through sheer cruelty and might, bend the will of their fellows to their bidding, forging the reluctant alliances that are the Dark Eldar Kabals. Known as Archons, these lords of malice are fierce combatants, tearing through the ranks of the enemy with terrifying fury and speed.
Consuming the souls of his enemies to sustain his immortality, an Archon grows stronger with every battle he survives, becoming nearly godlike in power as the centuries pass by.
Further, the Archon can enhance this innate superiority by drawing upon the ancient weapons of his Kabal to sow his enemy's destruction. Among these is the Animus Vitae, a twisted device that unleashes psychically charged barbed wire that can ensnare enemies, siphoning away their life force.
Another, more terrifying still, is the ancient artifact known as the Crucible of Malediction. Using unfathomable occult arts, the Dark Eldar have captured the tortured souls of enemy Psykers within the Crucible to be unleashed upon the enemy, driving them mad.
Treachery, however, is paramount among the Dark Eldar, and greatness in battle is no guarantee against the assassin's blade. Guarding against such betrayal, the Archon surrounds himself with a retinue of Incubi, elite warriors unmatched in close combat. Wherever the Archon may go, the Incubi follow. And wherever the Incubi go, death follows.
The Archons have fought their way to domination amidst the vile machinations of the Dark Eldar, the cruelest and most devious of all the known races of the universe. They have conquered through blood and artful manipulation, through subtlety and rage. Only fools would oppose such mastery.
Canoness
The order of the Adepta Sororitas - known commonly as the Sisters of Battle - are among the fiercest of the Imperium's warriors. Consumed with the fury of their undying Faith, their blessed mission is to root out heresy wherever it is found. Holiest of the Sisters is the Canoness, a battle-hardened veteran whose devotion to the God-Emperor is so supreme that she is able to call upon His aid in battle, invoking miraculous Acts of Faith that can change the face of the battlefield in an eyeblink.
Such terrible powers, though they require great Faith to use, can be awe-inspiring to behold. Legends tell of these abilities, though few alive can confirm the tales. One such story tells of a pure white light that poured from the Heavens, inspiring the devout and searing the eyes of their enemies.
Another describes the souls of fallen soldiers ascending from their bodies to take the form of vengeful angels, each burning with the fury of the Emperor and cutting through the enemy ranks like a sickle through corn. Against such manifestations of the Emperor's wrath, even the greatest of generals will tremble.
Yet even without such powers the Canoness is a force to be reckoned with. Equipped with the mightiest weapons of the Imperium, the Canoness lays waste to all who are foolish enough to oppose her, burning heretics with the devastating Inferno Pistol, or slicing through their ranks with her Power Sword.
With such at her disposal, the Canoness's versatility on the field of battle is unparalleled, allowing her to smite her enemies from near or afar. Attack how you might, no weakness can be found in the armor of the righteous.
So be strong in your faith. Do not waver. For the purging awaits those who doubt.
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Soulstorm is due out in spring 2008.

Ageia, which is responsible for the PhysX technology that drives the underlying physics interaction in Unreal Tournament III ("with additional benefits for PhysX Processor owners", natch), has released two CTF levels for Epic's blaster.
CTF Lighthouse and CTF Tornado have been lumped together in the Extreme Physics Mod Pack, which is available for download here. Both, obviously, are designed to showcase the power and capabilities of the PhysX technology.
In addition, Ageia will release a PhysX Mod-Kit for Unreal Tournament III in December. The company has said the mod kit "will allow developers and modders to create completely new experiences in the game and customize existing levels to enhance game-play and interactivity."
Speaking further about the two levels, Ageia's enthused, "The AGEIA Tornado PhysX Mod (video), which was first revealed at the Leipzig Games Conference earlier this year, features incredible physical realism and revolutionary new environmental impact powered by the PhysX processor.
"This completely new CTF map is named for the PhysX-powered tornado which tears the battlefield apart as the game progresses. In addition, the tornado actually lures rockets and projectile weapons into its vortex, if fired too close, presenting both dynamic risk and reward to daring players.
"Complementing Tornado is a new PhysX mod called LightHouse, which introduces an ominous, dungeon-like structure with myriad levels and hidden corridors, featuring a variety of destructible walls, floors and ceilings and new weaponry."
The company had said it plans to release additionally maps and mods for UTII "showcasing other types of PhysX implementations and level morphs" soon.

While admitting that he doesn't spend that much time playing them, Crytek's art director says that videogame consoles can't compare to the PC.
"My opinion on them in comparison to the PC is that I think the PC is always better," Michael Khaimzon told GamesIndustry.biz.
"Because the PC you can do so many things with, and the console is just there for the gaming."
Khaimzon, who grew up in Communist Russia, hasn't worked on any console games. He has, however, helped create the amazing visuals in the Crysis PC game.
He views consoles as inferior simply because there are so many more things you can do with a PC.
"You cannot create characters on a console - you can't run a 3D programme from one, as far as I know. You can't play certain strategy games on a console well, like Total Annihilation for example, or at least I haven't seen one, I think it's limiting to certain types of games," he said.
At the same time, he noted that PCs allow user to plug in a controller and play the same kinds of games as consoles.
Khaimzon isn't concerned with compatibility issues and the price of graphics cards, criticisms that are often brought against PC gaming.
"[N]obody forces you to upgrade your PC. You can take Crysis and play it on a medium-spec machine and it will still run, even on an older machine.
That said, Crytek recommends that Crysis be run on an Intel Core 2 Duo or AMD Athlon 64 PC with an NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS 640 MB graphics card that costs upwards of USD 400--more than the 40GB PlayStation 3, the Arcade or Pro model Xbox 360, or the Nintendo Wii.
"If people think there are games that are worth buying a USD 500 video card for, then they should go ahead and buy it and enjoy games of that quality - but they can still enjoy games at a lower quality as well," he explained.
The complete interview with Michael Khaimzon can be read here.
