QVS International announced this week that it will be distributing Aion: The Tower of Eternity in Australia this September. Aion is a massively multiplayer online role playing game developed by NCsoft, and since its launch in Asia in March, has built up 3.5 million subscribers. The game apparently has 1,500 story-driven quests, with players fighting in an "epic celestial war", with a choice between two divine factions: the Asmodians and the Elyos.
In terms of differentiation, the press release tells us that avatar customisation is hugely powerful, that flying is a strategic and integral part of the experience, allowing players to "take to the skies early on and take part in combat, quests, exploration and harvesting," and that "flight changes the battlefield in Aion with players able to experience revolutionary combat in the hotly contested area of the Abyss, between the upper and lower halves of Atreia. Gamers also fight against the Balaur, an ancient race freed from imprisonment within the Abyss, for control of valuable strongholds and artefacts."
Paul Elliot, Managing Director at QVS International stated, "Aion has already achieved massive success within the Asian online gaming community and we are really excited to be bringing this game to the Australian market. Additionally, we are extremely confident that gamers who seek and appreciate quality online gaming experiences will embrace Aion this September."
IGN has already looked quite extensively at Aion, so check out our coverage. Oh, and QVS has an official site too.

Chilean studio ACE Team has begun to talk about the sequel to its recent debut, the engaging and original Zeno Clash. In a blog update made on Tuesday, developer Carlos Bordeu revealed that the company has begun planning Zeno Clash 2, which will continue the adventures of series protagonist Ghat.
According to the update, the next game will be larger, to the point of having open-ended gameplay and role-playing elements. Ghat, Father Mother, and Golem are among the existing characters that will appear in the game, but there will be new ones as well. And ACE Team wants to up the brutality of the battles; while there is some shooting action in Zeno Clash, much of the combat in this first-person game involves pummeling your opponent with your fists, clubs, and other items.
There's no word on when Zeno Clash 2 will be released. Since the game is in the planning stages, it might be a while before we learn more.

Microsoft really, really wants to convince you that in the high stakes world of multiple displays, SideShow is the only way to go. To that end, the company has put together a little white paper meant to sell us on the idea of using their product to for extra screen real estate as you flail about Azeroth (or whatever it is that you do in your free time). And it's not like we need to be sold on the concept -- we love our Mimo as much as the next guy or gal -- but as wary as companies have been of this technology, we're guessing that it'll take more than some fancy Photoshoppin' to get hardware vendors on board. But who knows? Hit the read link to discover all of Microsoft's thoughts on the subject.

Capcom's business and strategy VP Christian Svensson mentioned in a recent interview that the company plans to release future titles on Steam day and date with retail. ButtonBasher, following up on information provided in a recent Rock Paper Shotgun interview, discussed the topic of PC digital distribution and Svensson noted that Dark Void and Bionic Commando will be available on Steam at the same time as retail. The executive also noted that Capcom's western offices take digital distribution "very seriously."
Svensson added that the company is "considering" more DLC for Resident Evil 5. He notes that "there's nothing to announce by any stretch," but that a request for DLC suggestions on the company forums created a thread that's "hundreds of posts long." That's not really shocking, considering fans are passionate enough to give their blood for RE swag.

If the Terminator universe is one that pits man against machine, then when it comes to the PC retail version of Terminator Salvation, the machines have apparently won. The retail version of the PC game has apparently shipped with a major, show-stopping bug that won't even let a customer install the game on his or her PC. As a result, the PC version has been recalled from retail shelves.
According to an Evolved Games post on the official forums, a defect occurred during replication that does not allow users to install the game. We've received reports from users of running into this problem, and we received a copy of Terminator Salvation for review that also would not install. Instead, upon installation the game reports that "an error (-5006 : 0x80070002) has occurred while running the setup" and to contact Evolved Games. Reports indicate that this error only affects the physical retail version; the versions found on digital distribution sites such as Steam are apparently unaffected.
Evolved said that it is busy replicating new copies of the game without the error, and that they should appear on shelves "in a few days." Meanwhile, it says that details on a replacement plan will be announced soon for those who have already purchased the game.

There's been little sign of change in NPD's latest list of the top ten selling PC titles in the US, with World of Warcraft expansion Wrath of the Lich King still firmly ensconced in the number one spot.
For the week ended Saturday, May 9 the top three remained static, with The Sims 2 Double Deluxe (a bundle of the original game and two expansion packs) at number two and Valve's Left 4 Dead at number three.
With no new entries the rest of the top ten merely shuffled position, with the original version of massively multiplayer online game World of Warcraft moving up two places to number four. World of Warcraft: Battle Chest (a bundle including the original game, expansion pack The Burning Crusade and two strategy guides) fell one place to number five.
Creative Assembly's strategy title Empire: Total War was down one place to number six, while Electronic Arts' Spore rose three places to number seven. Role-playing game compilation Fallout Trilogy was down one place to number eight, while re-entry Bejeweled Twist from PopCap appeared at number nine.
Expansion pack The Sims 2: Apartment Life rounds out the chart, down one place to number ten. Although there have been no major PC releases for some weeks the imminent release of The Sims 3, on June 2 in the US, is likely to have a significant impact on subsequent charts.
01 World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King
02 The Sims 2: Double Deluxe
03 Left 4 Dead
04 World of Warcraft
05 World of Warcraft: Battle Chest
06 Empire: Total War

May 20th, 2009, 20:57 Posted By: wraggster
Stardock's recent release of Demigod was somewhat of a rocky one. Server and networking issues plagued the title, resulting in a less than favorable reception for the strategy RPG. Earlier today, Brad Wardell, the CEO of Stardock, posted a post mortem summary of the numerous issues surrounding Demigod and why they happened on his blog. Initially citing the premature release of the game in stores without release servers, Wardell goes on to cover connection issues and networking difficulties, many of which he stated surprised the development team. However, he also went into extensive detail covering the patches that have been made to the game so far, as well as upcoming plans for future updates.
On top of this and an additional list of items that he wants to implement in the short term, Wardell covers the future for the title, including possible AI modding and a potential multiplayer demo which Wardell states will come out once "connectivity is totally nailed and bullet proof." He also mentioned that "2 Demigods are in development," and that Stardock is working on fostering the online community. "Scheduled games, strong team and clan support, pro tournaments, matchmaker filtering (let people filter out people they don't want to play) are all coming sooner rather than later. Those things will help immensely, "Wardell stated. Finally, users that purchased Demigod before today will be receiving a coupon for 50% off the game that they can give to friends, and mentioned additional extras for all users. "Next week we will begin sending coupons for other things on Impulse to active Demigod players to help ensure a vibrant multiplayer community. We plan to keep doing that periodically," Wardell posted.

The introduction of the long-awaited Equipment Manager feature in today's patch 3.1.2 makes playing World of Warcraft even easier, if that's possible.
Originally scheduled to be released alongside patch 3.1's dual talent specs, the Equipment Manager is one of those features that World of Warcraft players have using add-ons to take care of for years. It allows players to save multiple sets of equipment, swapping them out on the fly with the click of a button. The equipment in question must be in the character's inventory, though it can also be pulled from the bank if you've got the bank interface open. Combined with the ability to swap out talent specs, it should make playing a class that can fill multiple roles much less of a hassle.
The rest of patch 3.1.2 consists of a few class changes, a few item tweaks, and some bug fixing. Check out the full patch notes as soon as they show up on the official World of Warcraft page.

From now on Bounty Bay Online players can take part in regular hunting events. Every Wednesday from 19:00 - 22:00 and from 15:00 - 18:00 on every Sunday, automatic hunting tasks will be launched in the sea-faring world. By taking part, players can bag themselves various buffs to enhance certain abilities temporarily and valuable items such as jewellery, armour and weapons.
The hunting tasks begin with special NPCs such as the 'Combat Event Teleporter' who can be found on the docks at Athens. From there players can select three different hunting tasks within the regular event times. In addition, they can define a key ability before they begin, dependent on their character's profile. Falchion warriors, for example, can choose falchion combat training. Depending on their choice of task and their ability focus, hunting-hungry adventurers are teleported off to the corresponding hunting instance. Once they arrive, for just a few pieces of silver they can get themselves a rather effective buff which will raise certain abilities for a short time period, thus equipping them particularly well for the hunting tasks which now await them in the instance. From time to time, apprentice hunters will come across useful objects such as coffers containing silver and drinks to help them in their hunt. As they then engage various opposing hordes in combat, they can also grab some temporary items for themselves, such as weapons or armour to help them progress in their tasks in the instance.
Upon completing the hunting tasks, successful players will receive the so-called 'Evidence of Hunt?. This can be either immediately exchanged inside the hunting instance for three hour effectiveness long-duration buffs, or after returning back to the normal game world, converted into valuable jewellery.
There is additional information about the hunting events available on the official website:

Influential magazine includes OS alongside products such as Zune, HD DVD and the Segway
Time magazine has listed Windows Vista in its top ten biggest tech failures of the last decade, along with HD DVD, Microsoft's Zune and the Segway.
The US weekly said that the operating system has been "created to improve the security of the most widely used PC operating system in the world," but, "the securities features were not much better than the previous versions of Windows based on most reviews of the software."
Another reason it said Vista had been included in the list was due to it not being "compatible with a number of older PCs which limited the number of users who were likely to upgrade from the earlier version of Windows, known as XP."
Time also pointed out that even the most positive of reviews had said that the OS was a 'nice-to-have product rather than a must-have'.
