iWin, Inc., a leading developer and publisher of online casual games, today announced the launch of Jewel Quest Solitaire III, an exciting new installment in the hugely popular Jewel Quest franchise.
In Jewel Quest Solitaire III, Rupert and Emma's friend, Ratu, discovers a valuable tablet in the ruins of an ancient civilization. Little does Ratu know that this find is just the beginning. When his beloved assistant, Yumi, is inexplicably abducted, Ratu is propelled into a perilous game of cat-and-mouse with Yumi's treacherous captors.
Unlike most downloadable solitaire games, Jewel Quest Solitaire III uses the Klondike mechanic which is arguably the most classic solitaire game in the world.
"What's unique about Jewel Quest Solitaire III," says lead producer Jacob Rohrer, "is that we were able to grab the key elements of Klondike Solitaire and seamlessly blend them in with new, captivating gameplay, making for a solitaire unlike anything that has ever been in the casual games market to date."
Adds Executive Producer Peter Traugot, "People who love playing Klondike will love the power-ups! X-ray vision for unplayed cards, re-shuffling of your stockpile, Wild cards and the ability to 'unbury' blocked cards ... you never know how your game will turn out!"
In addition to the unique elements of the actual solitaire gameplay, Jewel Quest Solitaire III also gives its players two different types of interstitial play. Borrowing from its namesake, Jewel Quest, between every round of cards, the player is given the opportunity to play a classic Match 3 jewel board. A new element in the Jewel Quest Solitaire has also been introduced. In the Artifact Room, players must find hidden objects and put them in their appropriate place in the room based on a series of intriguing logic puzzles. Once the relics are revealed and placed in their proper order, the player will receive the final clue which will lead them to the elusive emerald.
Jewel Quest Solitaire has 100 Levels of play, 10 gorgeous environments, a fabulous Match 3 experience, compelling story and a mystery to solve, giving avid solitaire players more in a single solitaire game than they could ever dream of.
Jewel Quest Solitaire III is currently exclusively available from iWin.com where it can be downloaded with a 60 minute free trial. Customers of iWin's iCoins service can purchase all games for up to 65 percent off, in addition to receiving exclusive discounts on other iWin games. Jewel Quest, Jewel Quest II, Jewel Quest Solitaire and Jewel Quest Solitaire II are available entirely for free at http://www.iwin.com/download/InGameAds-games.

Racing to the finish line takes on added excitement when competitors trigger destruction on the track to take out their opponents. Disney Interactive Studios today announced Split/Second, an intense action racing game set within the world of a hyper-competitive reality television show. Competitors vie to be the first across the finish line in a made-for-TV city built for destruction, with the ultimate goal of becoming the season champion. Developed by Black Rock Studio, Split/Second is scheduled to be released in early 2010 for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PLAYSTATION 3 computer entertainment system and Windows-based PC.
Competitors in Split/Second don't just collide with other vehicles to knock them from the track -- they can also trigger explosive events that drastically alter the dynamics of the race. Players must use strategy and pinpoint timing to derail opponents, tactically alter the track or create entirely new routes.
"Split/Second elevates action racing to a new level by enabling players to strategically take out their opponents by dynamically altering the course in real time," said Craig Relyea, senior vice president of global marketing, Disney Interactive Studios. "Split/Second further showcases Black Rock Studio's ability to innovate and deliver a compelling experience that has wide appeal beyond the traditional racing genre."
"We're creating huge memorable moments on par with the biggest blockbuster action films," said Nick Baynes, game director, Black Rock Studio. "Action racing has captured the imagination of video game fans worldwide and we're going to redefine that experience with Split/Second."
Black Rock Studio is the development studio behind the critically acclaimed 2008 action sports game, PURE. PURE won numerous awards, including the Game Critics Award for Best Racing Game of E3 2008, and was named among the top 10 video games of 2008 by Entertainment Weekly. Formerly Climax Racing, Black Rock Studio is a development studio of Disney Interactive Studios and is based in Brighton, England.

Matrix Games (www.matrixgames.com) and Advanced Gaming Systems (www.computerharpoon.com) are pleased to release the v3.9.4 update for their award winning naval warfare simulator, Harpoon 3: Advanced Naval Warfare. The new update includes over 50 fixes and several additions and tweaks to overall gameplay.
As was mentioned in our past few releases, the 3.9.x series of updates are aimed at improving game stability and increasing responsiveness to customer feedback, with the goal of improving the entire game experience for the Harpoon community. Matrix Games and Advanced Gaming Systems encourage Harpoon 3 fans to head to the official forums to become a part of this new initiative.
David Heath, Director of Operations at Matrix Games, said "The community effort behind the 3.9.x series of updates is proving to be a great success. Both Advanced Gaming System and Matrix Games have been listening directly to our customers to make our product the best it can be and the latest 3.9.4 update is the latest result of that effort. We feel that it reflects a significant improvement in the Harpoon 3 ANW experience over the 3.8.x and 3.7.x series. If you haven't given Harpoon 3 ANW a try, now is a great time to come aboard."
Harpoon 3 – Advanced Naval Warfare is the culmination of decades of development and fan support, resulting in the most comprehensive, realistic, and accurate simulation of modern combined air and naval operations available to the gaming public. Harpoon 3 gives the player an opportunity to manage some of the most advanced air and naval assets available in the world, putting them in the middle of many historical and 'what if' scenarios. Players will have the chance to battle it out against a variety of enemies using technology from all of the premier naval powers of the day: Iranian Revolutionary Guard in the Persian Gulf, re-live Operation El Dorado Canyon, strike at the heart of Libya, guard the Greenland-Iceland-UK gap to stop a Soviet naval invasion of the Atlantic, or stalk unwary U.S. shipping in a Soviet Akula-class submarine.
This update is comprehensive and will bring any prior version of the game to version v3.9.4. Get more information on Harpoon 3 – Advanced Naval Warfare from its official product page.

Recently, we've been tracking the teaser website updates for BioShock 2: Sea of Dreams, which have been alluding to kidnappings of small girls from around the world, as well as mysterious lights in the sea and strange footprints in sand. However, some of the mystery surrounding the game was slowly revealed today, as Game Informer revealed the existence of the Big Sister on the cover of their April Issue. Slimmer and probably faster than the lumbering Big Daddies, the Big Sisters still appear to have some kind of human shape with a mechanical exoskeleton surrounding them. This suit doesn't seem to have a large drill as a weapon; instead, a pole or potentially a speargun seems to extend from the gauntlet of the left arm of the Big Sister. Curiously, it also appears to be carrying a Little Sister not on its shoulder but in some kind of basket.

Microsoft has begun laying out plans for its version of the App Store -- dubbed the Windows Marketplace -- with some familiar numbers, and a few unfamiliar tweaks. According to Ina Fried, the company will charge developers an annual fee of $99 to become part of the ecosystem, and an additional $99 for every app they submit (though throughout 2009, they'll have a chance to submit five apps at no cost). A rep from the big M states that the fee is "an acceptable cost of doing business for [software developers] looking to get in front of millions of customers," and justifies the charge on the grounds that Microsoft will "run a rigorous certification process to ensure that the end user's experience is optimal, and that the device and network resources aren't used in a malicious way."
Additionally, the company maintains that the process will offer "complete transparency throughout the application submission process," which indicates the folks in Redmond wouldn't mind courting devs who've been burned by Apple's opaque, confusing, and sometimes unfair system of approval. Besides the flat rates, Microsoft will take 30 percent of earnings from sales just as Apple and Google do -- the lone standout being RIM, who's generously offering 80 percent to devs (though hasn't exactly been blowing doors off hinges with its movement on fostering development). Microsoft's Marketplace will debut with the launch of Windows Mobile 6.5 in Q4 2009, though developers can apparently register come Spring, and start submitting this Summer.

Newly released:
features
Take command on the high seas. New real-time 3D naval warfare takes Total War's unparalleled battle action to the high seas, with players commanding single ships or vast fleets
Become a founding father. Control the fate of the United States of America, from its revolution against the British to overcoming the challenges of a young independent nation
Brand new multiplayer component includes player rankings, leagues and ladders, and completely new gameplay modes
All new graphics engine and technology features staggering real-time seascapes, new advanced landscape and flora systems, and dynamic weather
description
Command the seas, control the land, forge a new nation, and conquer the globe. Empire: Total War takes the Total War franchise to the eighteenth century Age of Enlightenment - a time of political upheaval, military advancements, and radical thought, captured in stunning detail in Empire: Total War.
Empire: Total War introduces a host of revolutionary new features, including true 3D naval combat. For the first time in the Total War series, you will be able to intuitively command single ships or vast fleets upon seascapes rich with extraordinary water and weather effects that play a huge role in your eventual glorious success or ignominious defeat. After pummeling your enemy with cannon fire, close in to grapple their ship and prepare to board, taking control of your men as they fight hand-to-hand on the decks of these wooden behemoths.
In addition, Empire: Total War will see further enhancements to the Total War series' signature 3D battles and turn-based campaign map. Real-time battles will pose new challenges with the addition of cannon and musket, challenging players to master new formations and tactics as a result of the increasing role of gunpowder within warfare. And the Campaign Map - for many, the heart of Total War - introduces a variety of new and upgraded elements, including new systems for Trade, Diplomacy and Espionage with agents; a refined and streamlined UI; improved Advisors; and a vastly extended scope, taking in the riches of India, the turbulence of Europe and, for the first time, the untapped potential of the United States of America.

March 10th, 2009, 22:49 Posted By: wraggster
Frogster America, Inc. today announced that players will now be able to have their own castles in the fantasy world of Taborea. Frogster is activating the long-awaited 'Guild Castles' feature today in Runes of Magic, the Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (MMORPG) that is redefining the standard for free-to-play titles and launching March 19, 2009. In-game castles will give guilds the opportunity to live together and furnish their personal guild dwelling. The next step in the plan to support guilds is to enable the guild wars function which will allow players to wage war against each other in GvG (Guild vs. Guild) combat.
However, building a castle isn't going to be so easy. Guilds must first reach level seven and must have their community coffers well stocked with ore, wood and gold. Should guilds meet these conditions, they will have access to a fortress located in an instanced part of the game world. This will then open a range of opportunities for the guild. For one, the guild castle will contain a central bank for its members and the players themselves will be able to decide what kind of furniture they wish to use to furnish their castle. Guilds can even acquire a throne for their castle as well as practical upgrades such as gates or teleporters that will be useful tactical elements in the planned guild wars.
In future conflicts, guilds will be able to conquer opposing castles. However, guilds may go to war only if they also possess their own throne. The destruction of a throne marks the end of the conflict and the defeated guild loses its throne as well as a part of its assembled resources.
There is also a plan to introduce guild furniture which is reserved specifically for use in castles and grant guilds special bonuses. Guild wars are currently in development and a launch date has not yet been announced.

This project requires Microsfot XNA 3.0 Redistributable. If you cannot locate it, you can find it from www.felixfox.com
While The Adventures of Felix Fox is a series focused on adventuring, the game has been focused on the online multiplayer aspect as of late.
The use of Tandem in this game means "partnership or conjunction". I realize I've completely misused the term in the previous game but the reason behind that is it was cut short about halfway. The goal of the game was to show a sense of teamwork among players as they progressed through the story.
At this point I would say the game fits into the category of a fighting game.

"This is your chance to learn more about The Secret World," says developer Funcom about the imminent unveiling.
An invite to the press explains, "It's time to be a little less secret about it, and that's why the game director himself will be journeying across the Atlantic so that he can share his vision with you - at least a small bit of it!"
And that's that really. Looks like we've only got a few more weeks before the Age of Conan dev's new project is welcomed into the world. We'll let you know how it's looking.
While you wait you can find a bunch of not-so-secret concept art and an interview on the game here.

When all six versions of Windows 7 were announced, we couldn't help but recoil in horror -- most still don't have all the flavors of Vista straight and now we all have to learn a new recipe for confusion. Microsoft, however, is quite confident that this array of offerings will fix one of its biggest woes: netbooks. If the wee things are running Windows at all it's usually XP, an issue that the company thinks Windows 7 Starter will address, acting as the low-cost intro Vista never was.
With Starter's ability to run only three applications simultaneously, MS believes users will get quickly frustrated and then pony up extra cash to move to Home Basic or Home Premium. Will it work? HP at least has pledged to offer Win 7 on its netbooks, and we found the beta ran quite well on our VAIO P, so the shift from XP seems inevitable. Whether Starter Edition will push more people to Home Basic than to Linux, however, remains to be seen.

Sega has acknowledged a number of issues with its latest release, Empire: Total War, which has caused users to complain about the game and service.
The PC game is incompatible with some Nvidia drivers, and also struggles through a number of installation issues with Steam.
"After the game was finished, Nvidia released a new set of drivers which we were unable to test before release. Unfortunately this has caused some incompatibilities with the game. We recommend that you roll back to the previous drivers until this is resolved," advised the publisher.
Sega also offers number of solutions to the Steam issues, which the publisher blames on busy game servers.
"We are in a constant dialogue with Valve and they are working towards providing fixes for some of these issues very shortly," said a spokesperson for Creative Assembly on the official Empire: Total War forums.
The game has been extremely well received by critics, and currently has a Metacritic score of 93 per cent, and a Gamerankings score of 93.33 per cent.

While the installed base for consoles creeps ever up, and titles for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii seem to dominate most games-related headlines, the future of strategy games on the PC is strong.
That's according to Mike Simpson, studio director at The Creative Assembly - which shipped Empire: Total War last week - who told GamesIndustry.biz that he doesn't see consoles as a problem for his games.
"I don't think that for PC strategy games... I don't think it's a threat," he said. "There's certainly no sign from our franchise that's happening. We're always looking at ways to expand it, rather than working on an assumption that it's going to decline.
"It is quite a complicated issue, and some of it's related to the whole console life cycle as well - when a new generation of consoles comes out, PCs suddenly look quite unfavourable by comparison.
"But three of four years later, when you compare the price of a PC with the price of a console, suddenly you're getting more power for your money with a PC, and things tend to shift back.
"That's happened with all the previous generations - so I think there is a natural cycle," he added.
As part of that life cycle of consoles - which, thanks to a problematic economy may be longer than anybody necessarily expected - Simpson believes that other genres may also trend back towards the PC over time.
"It may well be driven by first-person shooters than strategy," he said, "but I think both of them will do better on PC than on console as time goes on, and the console fades back.
"You'll start seeing games that just cannot be made on console, and can only be made with the power of PCs."
The Sega Europe studio's latest title has generated a very positive response from critics and fans alike, with review scores averaging above 9 out of 10, and the game widely expected to chart highly on the all-formats chart this week.
