Almost one-in-three registered users have now paid for Mojang Specifications sensationally popular MMORPG
Over two million consumers have now paid for the popular MMORPG Minecraft.
That's according to stats recently published onthe website of the game's developer, Mojang Specifications.
The figure means that a million copies have been sold since January this year, when the game hit its first million sales milestone. With some seven million registered to play the game, over 28 per cent have opted to pay the full RRP; an impressive conversion from free to paid customers.
The brainchild of Swedish developer Marcus Persson, the user generated content-focused online game Minecraft remains one of the most infamous indie hits of recent times.

A comprehensive new patch for Bethesda's action RPG sequel Fallout: New Vegas has just gone live for PC users, with consoles to follow shortly.
As promised earlier this month, update 1.3 rebalances a number of weapons and "contains optimisations and stability improvements".
According to a post on the game's official site, the patch is expected to hit consoles "by the end of the week."
Here are the full patch notes, as detailed onSteam:
Guns changes:- Automatic Guns - SMGs, the Assault Carbine, and the LMG are more accurate across the board. They're also more durable. 12.7mm SMG mag capacity increased to 21.
- Shotguns - Buckshot has received a x1.2 inherent DAM mod. This slightly incentivizes using buckshot over slugs when enemy armor is not an issue. Magnum buckshot has a x1.3 DAM mod and a small amount of DT bypass. Spread for many shotguns has been lowered.
- Hunting Rifle, Anti-Materiel Rifle - Hunting Rifle and AMR now have the lowest spread of all rifles. Hunting Rifle RoF increased, Crit Chance set to x2. Anti-Materiel Rifle's Crit DAM has been raised from 80 to 110 to make it more viable when compared to the Gobi.
- Sniper Rifle, Gobi Campaign Scout Rifle - Sniper Rifle and Gobi now have a higher RoF and lower AP cost. Both have x2 Crit Chance. Gobi has increased DAM and much higher Crit DAM over the Sniper Rifle.
- That Gun - That Gun is now a slow-firing hand cannon that does huge DAM firing 5.56mm out of a short barrel.
- Hunting Revolver - RoF increased.
- Service Rifle - DAM slightly lowered, firing animation changed to the one used by Marksman Carbine, RoF dramatically increased. Spread decreased.
- Silenced .22 Pistol, SMG - Crit DAM and Crit Chance significantly increased.
- 5mm Ammo - Base ammo has 10 points of DT bypass. AP variants have 25 points of DT bypass. This affects the Assault Carbine, Minigun, and CZ57 Avenger.
- .308 JSP - DAM mult reduced from x1.5 to x1.3. x2 CND degradation effect added.
- Lever-Action Rifles - Cowboy Repeater, Trail Carbine, Brush Gun - RoF has been slightly reduced, AP costs have been significantly increased, and spread has been slightly increased. Cowboy Repeater Custom Action RoF increase has been reduced. La Longue Carabine spread has been significantly lowered.
Explosives changes:- Dynamite - Larger explosion radius.
- Frag and Plasma Grenades – DAM increased.
- 25mm Grenades - Slightly increased DAM on the explosion.
- 40mm Grenades - Significantly higher DAM on the explosion.
- Missile Launcher / Fat Man - Now have much better zoom FoV and good accuracy. Missile and Fat Man projectiles (not the explosion) have a large base DAM. Both are extremely effective on direct hits, but still potent even if a direct hit is not scored. N.B.: Listed DAM on weapons assumes a direct hit!
Energy weapons changes:- Gatling Laser - Base DAM is higher. Against heavily armored targets, this is still a poor weapon. Against lightly armored targets, especially with Over Charge or Max Charge ECPs + Focus Optics + Laser Commander, it has extraordinary DPS.
- Tesla Cannon, Tesla-Beaton Prototype - These now consume far less ammo per shot and can be fired several times before a reload. DAM is beefy with an additional 2 second DoT.
- Pew-Pew - Lower ammo capacity, consumes far fewer ECs per shot. Still a two-shot weapon.
Melee weapon and unarmed changes:- Ripper, Chainsaw, Thermic Lance - DAM lowered, all ignore DR/DT.
- Bladed Gauntlet, Mantis Gauntlet - Ignore DR/DT flags removed (were not supposed to be marked as such). Mantis Gauntlet animation/sound fixed.
Perk changes:

Codemasters to hand over control of the European servers in June
Developer Turbine will assume full control of MMO title The Lord of the Rings Online in Europe from June 1st, merging the US and European servers in the process.
Until now Codemasters has handled the game in Europe.
Current players will need to migrate their Codemasters accounts to the new global service. No information or in-game items will be lost in the process and Codemasters Lifetime accounts will automatically become Turbine Lifetime accounts.
However, Game Time Cards published by Codemasters will not be compatible once the switch has been made.
LOTRO received a significant boost last year after abandoning subscriptions and adopting a free-to-play model. In January Turbine said that revenues had tripled since the switch.

Modding tools for the PC version of Crysis 2 are on their way, developer Crytek has announced.
An open letter posted on Crymod.com by CEO Cervat Yerli explained that an editor would launch in "early summer" allowing users to "build new maps, items and more custom content for Crysis 2."
"We want to see what you guys can do with CryENGINE 3 and we hope we'll be as amazed with the things you create as we have been over the past few years," he added.
In August, Crytek will then offer a CryENGINE 3 dev kit for download for those who want to further stretch their creative muscles.
"This will be a complete version of our engine, including C++ code access, our content exporters (including our LiveCreate real-time pipeline), shader code, game sample code from Crysis 2, script samples, new improved Flowgraph and a whole host of great asset examples, which will allow teams to build complete games from scratch for PC."
It'll be free to download, but if you plan on creating something for commercial release there will be costs further down the road.
"If you want to use it to make a game to launch commercially, we'd like to help you with that," Yerli explained.
"If you want to take your product down a traditional commercial route, we will offer an innovative low cost licensing model if you want to release your game digitally."
Recent speculation also points to an imminent DirectX 11 patch for Crytek's excellent FPS sequel, though there's still no official confirmation.

Portal 2 is Valve's final dedicated single-player game, according to comments allegedly made by the studio to GameTrailer TV's Geoff Keighley.
At the end of Keighley's recent The Final Hours of Portal 2 report – a behind-the-scenes App Store release looking at the making of Valve's sequel – he wrote "Portal 2 will probably be Valve's last game with an isolated single-player experience."
When asked to qualify that statement on his blog, Keighley added, "This is coming from Valve, although I don't have a lot more to share other than what is in the story.
"I agree it's a provocative statement, especially given the amazing single player storyline in Portal 2. Keep in mind Valve said 'probably', so I get the feeling that this could change."
Valve's next confirmed release is the resolutely multiplayer-focused DOTA 2, the controversial sequel to the popular Defense of the Ancients Warcraft III RTS mod.
Portal 2 launched last week, scoring a perfect 10/10 from Eurogamer's Oli Welsh.

Remember the Razer Hydra controller that let you materialize portals with a real electromagnetic orb? Those motion sensing sticks will be available for pre-order in May and will go on sale in June, two months after this week's release of Portal 2, the game it was first demoed with. However, Razer'll still charge you for a copy of the murderous robot game if you want the fancy gizmo, as it's pricing the bundle at $140 -- understandably more expensive that the "below $100" price that it was targeting for the controller alone. Two months is a pretty long time to wait to play the already-available title, and Razer isn't offering any info on a standalone version of the Sixense-based magnetic peripheral. On the upside, though, Joystiq got its hands on a list of compatible titles, which includes 122 games on top of the aforementioned sequel. That list and the official press release after the break.

PC Pro has an in-depth review of RockMelt, a new browser which it claims is better than Google Chrome. RockMelt is built on the same Chromium core as Google's browser, but adds a host of social networking, news feed and search features that elevate it above Chrome. The App Edge, for example, 'allows you to set up feeds for anything from your Twitter or Gmail accounts to your favourite news sites, and get a little iPhone-style numeric reminder of the number of items awaiting your attention.' It does, however, lack Chrome's built-in Flash, PDF and audio players."http://tech.slashdot.org/story/11/04...me-Only-Better

Despite a release window of "early" this year, Razer wasn't quite able to ship its Hydra motion gaming controller alongside Portal 2 this week. Instead, interested parties will be able to pre-order the $140 package this May ahead of a projected June ship date.
Wait, $140? We were told Razer was targeting a sub-$100 price point. That boosted price is for the Portal 2 bundle which includes (get this!) a copy of Portal 2! But this isn't your off-the-digital-shelf Portal 2; this version includes the Sixense MotionPack DLC featuring "six additional levels specifically designed for more portal testing fun with motion control," developed by Sixense.
Of course, any PC gamer worth his water cooler will have already purchased Portal 2 by then; luckily, the Hydra "is optimized with over 125 popular PC games out of the box," including Left 4 Dead 2 (melee weapons!) and World of Goo (think Wiimote). We've reached out to Razer to find out when a non-bundled option will be available and to see if it can share that list of 125 games with us. C'mon, FreeCell ...
If you want to read more about the rather impressive Hydra, look no further than our CES impressions.

UK-based cable broadband provider Virgin Media announced that it has begun testing internet speeds of up to 1.5Gbps in London using four startups from the 'Silicon Roundabout' hub as lucky guinea pigs. The 1.5Gbps trial, Virgin Media claims, uses the same cable infrastructure and technology that powers the broadband service for millions of households in the UK and is even faster than the projected 1Gbps speed that South Korean ISPs are proposing to implement in 2012. Earlier this year, ARRIS announced that it is working with SK broadband to deliver speeds of up to 800Mbps by combining 16 Downstream channels."http://tech.slashdot.org/story/11/04...vice-In-the-UK

GAME and Gamestation stores have been allowed to break the release date for the PC version of Portal 2 in the UK, after the game saw early release on Valve's Steam service on Monday.
Although both PC and console versions were released on Tuesday in North America - the usual day for new releases in that region - the game is not schedule for released in the UK until Thursday (normally this would be the Friday, if not for the bank holiday).
However, Portal 2 was also released on Tuesday worldwide on download service Steam and can currently be purchased for £29.99. Speaking to sister site Eurogamer, a GAME spokesman confirmed that publisher Electronic Arts had allowed them to take the move as a 'market reaction' to the availability on Steam.
The major supermarket chains have so far not followed GAME's lead, though. Tesco has already confirmed to Eurogamer that the game will not go on sale until tomorrow.
The street date for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the game also remains, since they are unaffected by the Steam launch.
Portal 2 has received wide critical acclaim but has already drawn considerable criticism from PC owners, who have attempted to sabotage the game's Metacritic user score as a result.

Angry customers have been using Metacritic's user review system to voice complaints over the PC version of Portal 2, with the critically-acclaimed title's rating dropping as low as 5.1 as a result.
At time of press the PC version's user score is 7.2, with the Xbox 360 version at 6.7 and the PlayStation 3 version on 6.6. The critic score is currently 95 out of 100 - the highest for any title this year.
The complaints appear to come primarily from PC users, upset that the game is a console port - and even includes references to turning off the 'console' when saving. Most anger, though, seems to be directed at the online store - which is already filled with downloadable content.
The volume of day one downloadable content seems to have come as a surprise to many PC users, unused to the console-style arrangement. They have also expressed disappointment at the game's short running time and the controversial ARG promotional campaign - which tempted players into buying unrelated indie titles.
Although Metacritic is an often controversial tool amongst games publishers and developers, usually due to the critic score - which many publishers treat as a key metric for quality. Generally less attention is paid to the user score, although such a volume of negative comments for a highly anticipated game does have the potential to adversely affect sales.
Publisher Electronic Arts and developer Valve are yet to comment publicly on the controversy.

In an interview with Pocket-lint, Microsoft UK's Ashley Highfield said the company won't be delivering a dedicated OS for tablets anytime soon. "We won't do anything in the tablet market unless we can be distinctive," he said. Given, we've already seen a number of slates rocking Windows 7, but Highfield was apparently tight-lipped about any solid plans to move into the tablet market in any substantial way, saying Microsoft sees itself as an underdog in certain areas. As far as we know, Highfield made no mention of how this relates to Windows Compact 7, which we've seen in prototype form in the past. Of course, all of this is coming from the guy who warned of the impending death of television as we know it, but we're inclined to believe him on this one. On another note, Microsoft's UK managing director said he gets his tablet fix on a Dell Inspiron Duo -- we suppose it's a good sign he's not rocking an Android or iOS tab.

Hours after releasing Portal 2 on Steam, creator Valve has announced predecessor Portal has sold close to four million units.
But Portal has likely sold substantially more copies. As GameSpot reports, the four million figure excludes digital download sales from Steam.
Portal launched in 2007 as part of the superb The Orange Box compilation.
In 2008 it launched as a standalone retail product. In the same year a version called Portal: Still Alivelaunched on Xbox Live Arcade.
Eurogamer's Portal review turned up a 9/10. "And so we're left with a curious contradiction: one of the most interesting and delightful things Valve's ever done, but also one of its least fulfilling," wrote Tom.

A new Minecraft patch that adds weather and achievements to the indie world-building phenomenon has just gone live.
As demonstrated in the trailer below, snow and rain will periodically fall out of the sky and accumulate on the ground, while the odd lightning strike will also be visible.
Achievements have also finally been added, as have gameplay statistics and two new minecart operations – the booster rail and detector rail.
"More statistics and achievements will be added over time as we develop the game," creator Notch wrote on his blog. "They're only stored locally at the moment, but we'll slowly be rolling out online storing of achievements over time."
Earlier this month, Notch announced that he intended to launch the 'final' version of Minecraft on 11th November.

THQ's confirmed the co-operative Last Stand mode from Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II - Retribution will be released as a standalone downloadable title tomorrow, April 20.
The Last Standalone, as it's called, will allow newcomers to the series to play all of the content available for the Last Stand without the need to own a copy of Retribution "or any experience with RTS games," says THQ.
Players who then decide they'd like to play competitive multiplayer or the single player campaign for Dawn of War II - Retribution can upgrade at a reduced price.
Jeff Lydell, Producer of Dawn of War II Retribution commented: "We saw this as a unique opportunity to introduce new players to the Dawn of War franchise as well as expanding the player base for the already popular Last Stand mode."
Dawn of War II - Retribution- The Last Standalone is scheduled to be available to purchase from Steam for $10.
