New version of the front end for MAME for Windows.
Changelog:
GoMAME Features
- Provides "Filters" to limit the broad range of visible games. For example, Favorite games can be marked, and the list of favorites can be imported/exported for sharing, or filtered to just list your favorites.
- Automatic "Mature" filter, with password (based on info from catver file) to take mature games off the list
- Numerous "Nanny" options to control access to options, settings, even in-game MAME configure key
- Supports NPlayers.ini, controls.ini, history.dat, and mameinfo.dat
- "Recommended games" (from mameinfo.dat) can be used as a filter
- Manages Global ini and Per Game ini files
- Drag-n-drop column ordering & Resizing
- Show/Hide/Reposition Snaps & History
- Right-click on Column Titles to hide/unhide columns
- Search for games based on just about any field
- Use "Status" columns to control visibility of games
- Auto-hide of columns filtered out
- Multiple rom Directories
- Full context-sensitive help
GoMAME will focus on finding ways to organize and filter the number of games to make MAME a bit more manageable. Soon up will be the ability to create custom, user-defined filters.
Minor changes in MAME's ini files to bring this up to 117. Current MAME is 125, but most settings were moved into the core with 117u2, so I've split the update. Added a splitter bar to control the width or height of the screenshot/history section and made the screenshots fit the space rather than the other way around.

Computer game developers Games Faction have recently been unveiled as the only company outside North America to win a coveted spot in Penny Arcade's 'PAX 10', an independent games showcase, at the world famous Penny Arcade Expo.
The UK company, whose game Project Aftermath impressed a judging panel of over 50 industry experts, will now compete against the other 9 finalists for the coveted "Audience Choice Award" at the Expo in Seattle this August.
Games Faction, a British games developer based in Northampton, England, was set up in February 2006 by Lee Hickey and Malcolm Reed - two industry veterans with over 20 years professional experience and a shared passion for making great games.
The duo, who are putting the finishing touches to their game and preparing to release Project Aftermath this August, are committed to creating innovative and diverse games and are proud to be a key player in the emerging wave of Indie developers.
Lee explained: "Because Games Faction is self funded and independent we have the freedom to push boundaries and create something completely new. That is what we have done with Project Aftermath and we are absolutely thrilled to be a PAX 10 finalist."
Malcolm added: "The PAX 10 is quite a line up, with more established studios and IGF (Independent Games Festival) winners making up the finalists. We're extremely pleased and excited to be part of it. It will be a great opportunity to show off what we have been working on for the last two years, to meet the other finalists and the gamers themselves and get some first-hand feedback."
Project Aftermath, available for Microsoft Windows from this Summer, is Games Faction's first game to be set in the turbulent Morphid universe.
Lee added: "Project Aftermath has been a risky undertaking as a first title for an Independent developer, and we don't think it is obviously "Indie". Our hope is that people will be very excited and perhaps surprised at what a small team can achieve."

First part of new feature series about background story launched
Berlin, 2008-07-14: The fragmented gameworld of The Chronicles of Spellborn, split up in plenty of rocks and shards floating through the Deadspell Storm, is the result of a long chain of cataclysmic events and almost forgotten stories. In a new series of features, the Dutch developer Spellborn NV reveals the most important key moments of the multi-layered lore to be explored within the game. From the Great Collapse dating back thousands of years in the past to the present New Century players will enter, the featurette introduces the fascinating background story in brief. Each week, Spellborn will present a new chapter of the timeline from now on, accompanied by concept arts and details on the main events of said period. It's first part just went online on www.tcos.com.
After an intensive development and test phase, there's much more to come in terms of regular news and images of The Chronicles of Spellborn from now on. The official website will be relaunched shortly and details about the attendance at the Games Convention in late August will follow soon.
What lies hidden, must be found
With The Chronicles of Spellborn players enter into an impressive online scenario with scenic landscapes, majestic cities and the remnants of an ancient civilization. Alone or with a party of allies, PC adventurers step into a huge fantasy realm consisting of varied shard worlds floating in the magic Deadspell Storm. Those who want to prevail in the grippingly staged combats of The Chronicles of Spellborn need to apply their mighty arsenal of spells, melee and ranged attacks skillfully. Battles with bloodthirsty creatures, hostile peoples and human opponents in PvP battles are waiting. An innovative and tactically challenging combat system with shooter-like controls and rotating skill deck provides a fresh breath of air for the dusty MMORPG genre. Thanks to the largely extended Unreal Engine 2.5 The Chronicles of Spellborn boasts stunning 3D graphics, spectacular effects and countless elaborate details. Progress on the homebrew game for PC.
People asked me by mail last week: "Why did you wait so much to start making the game music?". Well, back when the project started I had a very different idea of what the game was going to be like when finished. Now I can see and actually feel how this game is evolving, and these are some ideas I have about the soundtrack:
It won't be orchestrated. Not because I can't make nice arrangements, I just want to differentiate AM2R from VonRichter's Metroid:SR388 in terms of style, and this includes music.
And besides, VonRichter clearly kicks my ass at composing epic soundtracks.
So, I chose a more electronic approach. I'm using some elements from Metroid Prime 1 (filtered drums with background choirs and pads), and the Metroid fights will be like boss battles in Fusion (upbeat techno, just to raise the tension). This kind of sound will fit the game style.
For example, the main tunnel theme is catchy and invites to the adventure of exploring SR388. The ruins areas are calm and mysterious, the player senses something terrible happened there.
After clearing an area, as you go deeper into the planet, the main theme changes according to the new areas. Caves become darker, and the music becomes atmospheric and clautrophobic.
I hope you could understand anything I wrote, it's even more evident that English isn't my native language when I try to describe music.
About the music progress: I just finished the first version of the main tunnel theme. I'll show you a preview on my next post, right now I'm tweaking the song everytime I get my hands on it.
This is how the project looked like before automation made it a mess
NCFC 2008 has been announced, and I've registered a booth. I'm preparing some exclusive material: A new trailer, some new screens of the latest developed areas, and a new demo. The trailer might give you a preview of a Metroid fight, the demo will be mostly an update fixing some bugs, improving performance and adding customizable controls (Finally!!).
Regarding your comments about the endings: Yes, there will be multiple endings in the game, depending on completion time, item percentage and difficulty level (there are 3). When the time comes I'll be choosing an artist to draw the ending screens, since I totally suck at drawing, and HyruleSwordsMan is specialized in sprites.
Thank you all for your support.

via Eurogamer
Funcom has announced that its fantasy MMO Age of Conan is now available as a direct download from the developer's website.
The game costs just under GBP 40, EUR 50 and USD 50. It comes with 32 days' free play time - that's two more than the boxed copy, "due to the time estimated for downloads".
You'll certainly need patience and a fast Internet connection with a plentiful download allowance - the game client is 15 gigabytes in size.
The game is delivered through a download manager that supports pause and resume, so you won't need to worry about getting it all at once.
Funcom owns all the rights to Age of Conan, takes all the subscription fees, and operates the game on its own. Moving to digital downloads means it's now possible to buy and play Age of Conan without sending a single penny the way of troubled publisher Eidos. Poor old Eidos. Have a heart!

PC gaming may not be dying, but it is in a state of flux. We're seeing developers and publishers blaming piracy for all the ills of PC gaming, but attempts to rein in pirates with the help of DRM only annoys and mobilizes the legitimate customers of your games. The solution? According to David Perry of Shiny Games, PC games are going to be free."
(And if anyone has a favorite replacement term for "piracy," in the context of electronic copyright violation, please suggest it below.)

Tales of Pirates (http://top.igg.com/), a 3D MMORPG from IGG (www.igg.com ), is based on cute characters and eye-catching storylines, and quickly created a huge following for itself since its debut more than a year ago.
ToP is now preparing version 2.0 which will bring fresh experience to players including new stories, maps, mobs, quests and systems, especially the massive PVP system. Now we’ll have a brief preview of Tales of Pirates V2.0.
I. New Stories:
On Ascaron calendar 4035, a shining fireball streaked across the sky and dropped into the sea, south of the Deep Blue Region, followed by a terrible tsunami that swept the world.
After the tsunami, the adventurers arrived at the sea region where the fireball dropped, and unexpectedly they found a giant whirlpool, from which out came a chilling air and the continuous roaring of protectors.
What is the secret sealed in these Islands of Winter?
II. New Map, New Mobs
Winter Island
Contains 5 small islands, a total 9 regions, and it is the successive island on sea following the Spring, Summer, and Autumn Island. It is the island of dreams for Players Level 80+ to improve themselves where they will have new monsters to challenge and successive quests to do it.
New maze: The God Redemption
There are 2 types, the Bright Maze which players can only enter in daytime and the Dark Maze, which can only be accessed by night. If seen from above, the 2 mazes seem to have a serious face (Bright Maze) and a sinister-smiling face (Dark Maze). Also they have totally different terrain, vegetables and architecture.
III. New Quests:
In Winter Island many new quests and relevant NPCs are delicately designed, awaiting players’ experience.
IV. Cool items and gear:
New Items: Considerable new drops, including quest items and items which can be redeemed.
New Gear: 4 sets of Level 85 gear and 4 sets of Level 95 Boss equipment, one set per class. All the new gear grants the players experience bonuses and additional chance for drops.
V. New Mobs:
Before going to fight the new monsters in Winter Island, including in the Bright and Dark Mazes, players from different classes need to team up to face the challenge.
VI.PVP Arena:
The master will join the PVP contest along with the apprentice. There is also seating in the arena, and players can come in to watch the PK contest and leave at any time.
VII. Upper Limit of Level Adjustment
Level and Exp System
Decreases the leveling-up difficulties for Level 80+ players and adjusts the upper level limit to level 120, also fixes the balance of classes.
VIII. Guide for Newbies
More considerate newbie guide system, and newbie quests! Will guide the new starters to level up fast in the shortest time during the quests.
