Blizzard adds to the Christmas cheer in World of Warcraft this morning with a brand new present under the Christmas Trees in Ironforge and Orgrimmar - Crashin' Thrashin' Race Cars.
In the grand tradition of last year's Rocket Bots, players can pull out their Crashin' Thrashin' Race Car at any given moment, aim it at another player's car, and hit the Racer Rocket Slam button to propel themselves at their opponents with monster truck force, making them go all 'splodey.
I currently have WoW running in the background, and all I can hear is exploding cars and the odd fit of laughter generated by those damn Wands of Holiday Cheer they keep putting under the tree every year. Oh good...now someone's put down the toy train that makes people do the train noise. My suggestion? Log in, get your race car, stick around long enough to get the 25 crashes achievement, and then flee.

December 24th, 2008, 11:51 Posted By: wraggster
Battlefront has just released the new v1.11 patch for Combat Mission Shock Force and CMSF Marines! It's so packed full with new features, massive AI improvements and the obligatory bug fixes that there is only one question - will it all fit under your Christmas tree?! Here are just a couple of the highlights of v1.11:
Turn-based action is pre-computed with a "blue bar" before the action is displayed. This allows for improved performance of large battles on older computers, and for convenient "skipping ahead" in the early turns of a battle before enemy contact.
Suppressive fire: when you order direct fire at an enemy infantry unit, and that enemy unit later disappears from sight, the target order is not immediately canceled. Instead, your unit will continue to area-fire sporadically at the enemy's last known location for a short time if the LOS is sufficiently clear for area-style targeting (note that sometimes it won't be). Volume of fire is lighter versus open terrain, and shots will be taken at other targets of opportunity as usual. If the enemy reappears, it will again be targeted directly. If it does not reappear for about 45 seconds, the target order is canceled. A similar behavior applies to individual soldiers who have fired on enemy infantry without targeting orders from the player. They will continue to area-fire at their target's last known location for about 30 seconds.
Note: some of the features listed below are only applicable if you have the CM:SF Marines Addon installed.
Turn-Based Replay
Turn-based action is pre-computed with a "blue bar" before the action is displayed. This allows for improved performance of large battles on older computers, and for convenient "skipping ahead" in the early turns of a battle before enemy contact.
Craters, vehicle bog status, damaged buildings, walls, and trees display correctly (not too early).
Smoother vehicle and soldier movement.
The Fast-forward and Rewind buttons normally change time by 5 seconds, but will change by 10 seconds if the Control key is pressed, and 20 seconds if the Shift key is pressed.
Incoming rounds from air support attacks are displayed at the correct elevation.
Moving vehicles sound better in email replay.
Cease-fires and surrenders activated in mid-replay don't "forget" what happened later in replay when calculating victory.
Correct animation is shown after a soldier switches weapons.
Corrected a problem that sometimes caused unbuttoned vehicle crewmen not to be shown in replay.
Corrected a rare case where, after replay, a casualty could be shown using the animation he had just before becoming a casualty.
Vehicles
Improved pathfinding and obstacle avoidance.
Vehicle secondary explosions do not continue for too long in email games.
Improved coordination between the rotations of vehicle hulls and turrets.
Fixed a bug that sometimes caused vehicle ammo to increase.
Stryker MGS uses an improved APFSDS round, the M900, rather than the M833.
LAV-25 will use its coax MG, not its 25mm cannon for "Target Light".
LAV-A2 series armor thickness reduced.
Modified ammo loadouts on early-model T-72 tanks.
MTVR trucks have a new floating icon image.
In the M7A3 Bradley BFIST and the M1131 Stryker FSV, if an artillery or air spotter/observer/controller is riding as a passenger, he will switch seats with a vehicle crewman so he can use the vehicle's powerful FS-3 optical equipment. Note that the vehicle must unbutton to use the FS-3.
The Platoon HQ Stryker ESV, with only one crewman (a driver) will use its MG if a passenger is aboard to man it.
Corrected a problem that sometimes caused ricochets off vehicle armor not to be displayed.
Fixed "twitchy" vehicle movement when moving to a destination very close to another vehicle.
Crews will not retain a pop-smoke targeting order after bailing out of their vehicle.
Fixed a potential problem with a BMP-3 crew re-entering the vehicle but then not using its weapons.
Passengers consistently close the rear doors on the LAV-25 when required.
When a vehicle driver is hit, another crewman takes his place even if there are passengers on the vehicle.
Increased time penalty for reloading a vehicle-mounted weapon with a destroyed autoloader.
Light vehicles have tighter suspensions.
Infantry
Improved soldier pathfinding.
Soldiers can "fire on the move" when inside buildings.
Fixed a bug that could make soldiers moving in a building suddenly drop down a level, or stand too close to the walls.
When a squad splits into teams, the teams divide ammo amongst themselves more evenly.
Corrected a problem where a soldier could become "stuck" moving up a steep slope.
When a squad splits into teams and later reforms, its original targeting orders from before the split won't still be active.
Accuracy of marksmen slightly increased.
Split squads reform when aboard vehicles.
Grenade throwing between adjacent levels in a building works better.
RPG-16 reloads correctly.
A slight difference in elevation will not prevent soldiers moving from rooftop to rooftop.
Corrected a problem where soldiers could lose a weapon recently acquired from a vehicle on the next turn of an email game.
TacAI
Improved infantry team evasive movement logic.
Soldiers with area-fire orders are better at taking aimed shots at individual enemies who subsequently appear in the targeted area, especially in buildings.
Soldiers are better at moving to advantageous firing positions inside a building.
When appropriate, vehicles will attempt to "shoot and scoot" in cases like a BMP-1 where the guided missile takes a long time to reload.
Grenadiers are more willing to use their rifles, not just the grenade launchers.
Hunting units are not so quick to halt if they encounter distant explosions.
Troops crawling behind a wall won't go up to kneeling/firing position while waiting for teammates to catch up.
TacAI aims a little lower versus certain vehicles, especially those without turrets, for better accuracy.
Soldiers placed near the top of of a steep slope (looking up) are more likely to crouch than lie prone, so they can get a clear LOS/LOF over the rim of the slope.
Heavy-weapons gunners and forward observers are less likely to fire their light personal weapons (in order to keep a lower profile).
Javelin gunners fire missiles at enemy infantry in buildings less often.
Gunners pay slightly less attention to enemy vehicles that are abandoned but not destroyed.
Computer Player
Computer player is quicker to surrender when most of its forces are knocked out.
Computer player is more aggressive with its artillery and air strikes, and better coordinates its artillery smoke missions.
Computer-player units don't arbitrarily change their facing when the battle starts.
Computer player does a better job organizing movement destinations of its vehicles.
Bunkers
Fixed the "floating bunkers" bug.
Bunkers can reliably be placed near trees in a scenario without being shifted.
Medic/"Buddy Aid"
Soldiers more reliably pick up "important" weapons from fallen comrades, but marksmen won't drop their scoped rifles to pick up grenade launchers.
More likely to happen between soldiers in the same squad/team than in different squads/teams.
Works across action spot boundaries.
Less likely to happen when under fire.
Air and Artillery Support
Building protection versus artillery airbursts is increased.
You no longer hear enemy artillery and air support communication even if you have spotted their forward observer.
Targeting support fire on building domes works correctly.
If an artillery spotter loses sight of the target during the spotting round phase, accuracy of the fire mission is reduced appropriately.
U.S. Army JTAC, and U.S. Marine Fire Control teams are faster at calling in air strikes.
Incoming rounds from helicopter guns won't impact off-map (too early) when the game map is steeply sloped.
Joining teams together to reform a squad when one team is already spotting for air or artillery strikes works correctly.
User Interface
Hotkey for toggling floating icons can also toggle display of spotting contact "?" icons.
You may change between real-time and turn-based mode between battles of a campaign, or exit to the game intro screen.
The automatic prompt to save a campaign game now comes just after clicking away the end-of-battle screen, not after loading the next battle.
Pause command increments are: 5sec, 10, 15, 20, 30, 45, 1:00, 1:15, 1:30, (Unlimited) Pause.
Camera zoom up to x20.
Engineers who are passengers on a vehicle may be given a Blast move order, provided it's not the first waypoint.
An enemy unit will no longer remain "selected" in the game interface if it disappears from your units' view.
The game won't allow setting area targets that are a little too low for your gunners to see.
Split squads that have special names display their team names correctly, e.g. "Havoc 1 / A Team".
Target orders given to a double-clicked HQ (which selects its formation) do not apply to reinforcements in that formation that have not yet arrived.
In turn-based play, there is no longer a problem with dismounting from a UAZ and immediately plotting a move into a building.
The target cursor shows "Reverse Slope Target" instead of "Reverse Slope".
"Hint text" is not shown when there is a priority message (like reinforcement arrival) so they don't overwrite.
3D Graphics
Faster frame rates in large battles.
New blown-out building wall models.
Updates to models: BRDM-2, BRDM-2 (AT5), BMP-3, AAV-7, AAVC-7, M1A1 Abrams USMC, and M16 rifle.
When walls of different types abut, the sides render correctly.
Foxholes are no longer darkened, so they won't give away infantry positions.
Columns of smoke look correct in internet/LAN games.
Distant dirt and gravel roads display correctly when using Better or Best 3D Texture Quality option.
Light from moonrise appears more gradually.
Landmark text is more readable when it's positioned below the distant mountains but above the edge of the map.
TO&E
New Syrian Mech Airborne Infantry Battalion formation.
Updates to Syrian Airborne Rifle Squad, Marine Fire Control Team, and a few US artillery formation names.
Marine sniper teams carry more sniper-rifle ammo.
Syrian forward observers have binoculars.
M4A1 rifle renamed to M4.
Quick Battles
Syrian forces always have a forward observer if artillery is available.
Troop Quality parameter has a greater effect on force size: low-quality forces are larger than before, and high-quality are smaller.
If a map was mistakenly designed with "duplicate" Occupy-Terrain objectives for each force, a Quick Battle won't import two copies of the objectives.
Miscellaneous
Smoother internet play.
Fixed a bug that caused some newer sound cards not to use enough sound channels.
The effect of experience on spotting ability is increased.
It's slightly less easy to spot enemies who have just fired their weapons, especially antitank launchers.
Scenarios with big maps load faster.
Surrender does not necessarily lead to total defeat. The scores for Terrain Touch, Terrain Destroy, and all Unit objectives are preserved.
IEDs can be detonated by nearby explosions.
Pre-battle Intel "?" icons don't disappear if the associated units are eliminated while not spotted.
AT-10, AT-11, and AT-12 missiles have a 100m minimum range.
Elite mode allows friendly fire in dark conditions.
Trees are tougher to destroy, especially palm trees.
Corrected some rare problems with LOS/LOF and buildings.
Marine Assault (aka SMAW) squad shows an antitank floating icon.

Riot Games has revealed four new Champions for its online RPG, League of Legends: Clash of Fates. Fiddlesticks, Morgana Le, Twisted Fate and Warwick have officially been added to the roster. Their background stories and special abilities are detailed below:
Fiddlesticks, Harbinger of Doom
There is a valley, just on the sandy edge of the Tempest Flats. It is said that a powerful witch lives there at the very bottom—all by herself, but never alone. It is said that she commands the powerful magics that circle and batter this place. She transforms the energies into semi-living souls, trapping them inside bodies of carefully crafted scarecrows.
The witch has kept to herself for many long years. That is, until a few months ago, when she sent one of her creations out to warn the rest of the world.
Leaving the valley in the middle of the night, Fiddlesticks shambled across the desert and into the neighboring realms. He torments and terrifies all who look upon him with his wickedly crooked smile. For he is the Harbinger, bearing news of impending doom.
Abilities
Terrify (Active) – Terror grips the target, causing it to run about aimlessly in fear unable to take any action.
Fearmonger (Active) – Fiddlesticks channels dark magic into his enemy, drawing out its life force and replenishing his own.
Dark Wind (Active) – Fiddlesticks summons a dark wind that between targets doing damage and silencing enemies for an increasing amount of time.
Crowstorm (Active) – Fiddlesticks channels a dark energy, unleashing the evil within him. A flock of vicious crows materializes around him, tearing and rending all enemies in range and causing massive damage.
Paranoia (Passive) – Fiddlesticks' mere presence is enough to cause fear in his enemies, causing them to miss on their attacks.
Morgana Le, Fallen Angel
Morgana Le joined the Judicators alongside her sister Kayle at a very young age. The sisters quickly rose through the ranks, practicing relentlessly to bring their skills to the highest level.
Despite being sisters and close friends, Morgana and Kayle were extremely competitive with each other. It was all in good nature, but both wanted to beat the other and by extension become Lead Judicator.
Eventually, Kayle was named Lead Judicator and asked to take over the entire organization.
Tremendously jealous of Kayle's promotion, Morgana disavowed their friendship and immediately set about trying to discredit and unseat her sister.
Kayle discovered the treachery. Infuriated by her sister's deceit, she attacked Morgana. It is said that never since has a battle raged as fiercely as it did on that day. In her rage, Kayle tore Morgana's wings asunder and expelled her from the order of Judicators forever. Overpowered by her sister, Morgana was forced to flee with her life, vowing to not rest until Kayle was unseated.
Abilities
Dark Binding (Active) – Morgana Le channels dark energy into a single enemy, causing immense pain that deals damage each second and slowing its movement speed.
Tormented Soil (Active) – Morgana Le curses a large area of ground causing it to deal damage to enemies who stand on it.
Black Shield (Active) – A black shield forms around Morgana Le's target, protecting it completely from all spells for a short duration.
Echoing Pain (Active) – Morgana Le infects a target with her own torment. Any damage done to that target is increased considerably.
Empathize (Passive) – Morgana Le empathizes with the suffering of her fellow Champions, increasing their health point regeneration rate.
Twisted Fate, Cardmaster
The banks of the Serpentine River are home to a smattering of gypsy communities. On any given day, you can see a flotilla of paddleboats migrating up and down the rushing waters. Though their homes are constantly on the move, their communities are very stable. The Serpentine gypsies live and die by a single code: If you are my friend, you are my family. If you are my foe, you have made enemies of us all.
The most famous of these gypsies is a man known only as Twisted Fate. In cards, no matter what hand he is dealt, he always finds a way to come out on top. But it isn't just his luck that makes him so famous. Just ask anyone who has accused him of cheating. They'll tell you he can kill a man dead at twenty paces—with nothing more than a playing card.
Abilities
Seal Fate (Active) – Twisted Fate reveals the cursed fate of his enemy. That enemy takes periodic damage until the curse runs out, or until he can kill an enemy unit.
Wild Card (Active) – Twisted Fate enhances his attacks with a mystic but erratic energy. Each of his attacks deals a random, additional amount of damage with each basic attack.
Gate (Active) – Twisted Fate opens a portal in time that allows him to teleport to any location on the map.
Destiny (Active) – Twisted Fate views the Destiny of all his opponents for a short duration. All enemies on the map are revealed and slowed for that duration.
Second Sight (Passive) – Twisted Fate grants the Second Sight to his allies, increasingly their chance to critically hit with basic attacks.
Warwick, Blood Hunter
Warwick was once a brutal mercenary, trained as a chemical weapons engineer by the Alchemists of Zaun. He barely escaped with his life after his unit was wiped out while defending an Ionian citadel. Outnumbered a hundred to one, he holed up in an abandoned mine, and set to work concocting a chemical potion that would give him the strength and power to beat the odds. Knowing he didn't have much time, Warwick frantically worked night and day. And when he finally finished his elixir, he had no way to test it first. Swallowing the unguent in giant gulps, Warwick howled in pain as his body contorted. His arms grew huge and strong. His fingers sprouted massive claws, his head horns, and his skin became dark as coal. And inside a hunger grew, a thirst for blood that had never before existed. Needless to say, it was not he who lost his life that day.
Upon return, Warwick's transformation allowed him to excel as a mercenary, and his infamy spread near and far. He is now desired in all realms – sometimes for his mercenary services, and also for the enormous bounty on his head.
Abilities
Hungering Strike (Active) – Warwick lashes at his enemy an enormous claw, dealing damage and stealing life.
Hunters Call (Active) – Warwick lets out a piercing howl, signaling to his allies that now is the time to strike. His howl increases all allied Champion's physical damage for a small duration.
Blood Scent (Active) – Warwick sniffs the air to detect any blood in the area around him. He gains sight of any enemy Champions in a large area, and gains movement speed for each Champion spotted.
Infinite Duress (Active) – Warwick leaps onto an enemy, furiously slashing his opponent with his claws and rendering the victim completely helpless for a short duration. Warwick's furious barrage is able to cancel any channeling effect once it has begun.
Eternal Thirst (Passive) – Warwick drains the life of his opponents with each consecutive strike.

A member of the Braid development team has revealed that the PC version of the critically-acclaimed platformer is scheduled to release sometime between February and March of 2009.
Already released on the Xbox 360, via Xbox Live, the PC version of Braid was supposed to come out during the end of 2008. However, the developer wrote on the game's official web site, "Once we slipped into mid-October and all the big Christmas-season blockbusters started coming out, it just seemed like a bad idea to schedule Braid for that time period, as it seems likely it'd get released and then disappear."
The developer is also in talks to do a Mac version of the game. "The release date for this would be hopefully not long after the PC version," wrote the developer.
IGN gave Braid an 8.8 and praised it for its innovation and imaginativeness.

A new patch named Hotfix is available now for download on The Witcher official website at the top of the community news section, see here.
CD Projekt RED welcomes player feedback and the Hotfix patch was created in response to fan community feedback. The Hotfix patch resolves problems related to EAX technology, which did not operate properly in conjunction with the game and generated critical errors when activated in the Game Options panel, and also eliminates the blur remaining after cut scenes and dialogue sequences.

A PC version of sumptuous platform-puzzler Braid will be with us between February and March 2009.
A late 2008 release was originally planned, according to the game's blog, but avoiding the holiday onslaught of power-titles seemed to make sense.
The post also says talks are ongoing about a Mac version, which, if they're fruitful, would launch not long after the PC offering.
As for PS3, the future remains uncertain; Braid creator Jonathan Blow is keen, but has heard nothing from Sony.
Braid launched on Xbox Live Arcade during a strong August line-up, but still managed to be the brightest gem in the digital box.
With a hand painted look, time-manipulation mechanic and tinkling musical accompaniment, this puzzling platformer commanded top marks from Eurogamer. You, our readers, have just voted the game as your eighth favourite of the entire year.

Additional new multiplayer scenarios

Originally set for a January 10 date, Tabula Rasa is now free-to-play until February 28, which is when the MMO will shut down.
Former players hoping to return to see the game's added content can log on to their PlayNC master accounts at www.plaync.com and visit Account Management to reactivate their accounts.
New players can also join in on the festivities by requesting a Tabula Rasa serial code through the game's support site. Eager fans can then use that code at www.plaync.com to create a new account. Keep in mind that the activation process will prompt players for their credit card numbers, but the game's official web site reads, "that's just so we know who you are. We will not charge your card for Tabula Rasa gameplay."
Once players' accounts are activated, they can click here to download the game client.

One debut this past week was PopCap's Bejeweled Twist puzzle game. Two games that dropped out of the top 10 were Rockstar's GTA IV and Ubisoft's Far Cry 2.

Man, Microsoft just can't bring itself to kill Windows XP dead -- it just extended the final OEM and reseller delivery date for the venerable OS to May 30, 2009. Vendors will still have to place their orders before the official cutoff date of January 31, but they won't have to take delivery (or pay, we'd imagine) until May. All of this is supposed to alleviate the problem of vendors stockpiling copies of XP -- it wouldn't be good for Microsoft if manufacturers start charging a demand-related premium for XP licenses after Redmond goes Vista-only. Of course, Microsoft also recently extended the Vista "downgrade" deadline for OEMs to July 31 and netbooks will still be able to kick it old-school until at least June 2010, so chances are you'll be able to get XP one way or another until Windows 7 ships -- let's just hope all this waffling on XP means that 7's going to be as good as we think it is.

Publisher Warner Bros. has unleashed 35 new screens from F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin.
The game was delayed from this year until early next in order to implement a host of "cool new features that required a bit of extra time to get them to the level we wanted", according to developer Monolith, so we're expecting good things from the FPS that's also set to bring the horror.
F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin is set for a February 13 release on PS3, 360 and PC. These shots will have to keep you busy for now.

Diefox has released a new Beats of rage game for Windows and maybe more, heres the details:
Hi, my name is José Henrique and I'm here to present you my game, Bala de Revólver.
Bala de Revólver (Revolver Bullet) is an action game that falls under the Beat'em Up genre. In the Wild West, you are Raymond Walker and Marguerite Roberts, two outlaws hunting a great treasure that is supposed to be hidden in the depths of Fort Eagle city, and they will do whatever it takes to get their hands on it.
This game was developed as my final work at Design college, needed for graduation. AS the time for developing this game was short, it has become more a prototype than a game, for it has only one stage.
Bala de Revólver was made in Multimedia Fusion 2, the animations were made in Flash CS3 and imported as PNG animation and the backgrounds in Photoshop CS3.It is not complete and it's in portuguese, I intend to continue working on it, making a english version in a near future, but I need some help. Although I program, draw and plan everything, I'm not familiar with sound department and I need someone that can compose or remix musics, that works with dubbings and sound effects, it would not be a paid work, but the artist would receive all the credits, after all sound is an essential part of a game.
I'm graduated in design and looking for freelance or hires jobs in design, game design or illustration areas. Check out my portfolio in www.diefox.com.
The download link is below, for the game to work properly, you need to install the Edmunds font that comes inside the Winzip file.

[nico] pointed out something that didn’t seem to get any air-time during the recent netbook kerfuffle. Part of the original TechCrunch complaint was that netbooks are underpowered. This is a direct result of Microsoft’s Ultra Low Cost PC (ULCPC) licensing program. If manufacturer’s don’t stick to Microsoft’s restrictions, they can’t purchase XP at a discount ($26-32), which is the only way to get XP since they no longer sell it. These rules are why you can’t buy a netbook with more that 1GB of RAM.

Perhaps worse than not getting the gift you've asked for is getting a raincheck for it. Although we appreciate the sentiment behind 3D Realms releasing a new image containing in-game creatures from Duke Nukem Forever, the fact that another holiday season has come (and almost gone) without the game actually being released can't be ignored.
Still, if you'd like to have a reminder of promises unfulfilled staring back at you every time you look at your monitor, the 3D Realms site has the image in all shapes and sizes. Us, we'll pass ... and celebrate the holidays the good old fashioned way.
