Blizzard has released the first of what is to be a series of Starcraft 2 battle reports -- narrated videos of a match from the alpha version of the game. Here, we see associate game balance designers Matt Cooper and David Kim playing a 1-on-1 as Protoss and Terran, respectively, with commentary provided by lead designer Dustin Browder and e-Sports team member Robert Simpson.
The announcers are comically enthusiastic at times, especially when a particularly mobile Protoss probe manages to run circles around a marine. If that sounds like something you'd rather not hear or f you're trying to watch this at work, a transcript is available below the video so that you can follow along. The official Joystiq Crystal Ball™ is telling us that when SC2 is released (even it doesn't know when), the forums will light up with cries of unfair Marauder rushes.

Mythic boss Mark Jacobs has sent a Christmas message to Warhammer Online fans and revealed that the developer is going to speed up levelling in the game over the holiday period - starting now.
"We are going to be speeding up the levelling curve in WAR for a few weeks. We're going to increase the rest experience multiplier bonus in a hotfix today as well as reducing the time that it takes you to earn rested XP while logged out of the game, especially in Tiers 3 and 4," said Jacobs.
If you don't understand what that means, try this: "This will result in players' time to level being approximately 10 per cent faster in Tier 2 and 20 per cent faster in Tiers 3 and 4."
He also said some stuff about stopping the game crashing so much, so that's good. Go join the race to the endgame.

Runes of Magic publisher Frogster has been overwhelmed by the response to their free-to-play MMORPG, with more than 100,000 characters were created within hours of the open beta launch on Monday.
Registrations for the game have now surpassed 220,000, 20,000 of which were created on Monday morning when the open beta launched. The population of Taborea quickly shot past 100,000 characters, who combined have played for more than 200,000 hours, completing 2 million quests in the process. The company was forced to open an addition game world on Monday afternoon to deal with the influx, with the global population now spread across seven different servers.
I know some of you folks were included in those figures. What do you think so far? Yay or nay?

EA has declined to confirm reports that its Los Angeles studio is beavering away on an expansion pack for Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 called Uprising.
However, the publisher went a bit beyond the usual line about rumour and speculation. "We will have more information in the New Year," the publisher told Eurogamer today.
Yesterday Jeuxvideo reported that an expansion called Uprising is in development, which was then faintly echoed around various C&C fan-sites.
Red Alert 3 came out on the PC in late October and followed on Xbox 360 in mid-November. Check out our PC and Xbox 360 reviews for more on why we liked them, which we did.
A PlayStation 3 version of the multiformat RTS is also in development, but a spokesperson said recently that we shouldn't expect to hear more about that before Christmas.

EVE Online is a serious business. You can tell this by the fact that developer CCP has an internal affairs division. Also by the way the uncovering of an exploit leads to calls for "transparency", concerns for the economy, and a summit between developers and elected player leaders, rather than just whining on forums.
All of this happened last week, after it came to light that a bug relating to a combination of several player-owned starbases with a moon mining operation was yielding materials used in the game's crafting system out of all proportion. Seven player corporations were found to be gaining "unfair advantages" from the exploit, virtual assets have been frozen, and over 70 game accounts have been banned as a result, the developer said last week.
"Working with the Research & Statistics team we have established that the effects on the markets have been considerable and far reaching," read the announcement. Just how far reaching came to light at a meeting between CCP and the elected Council of Stellar Management that represents the interests of players at the weekend.
You can read the details in the full minutes of the CSM meeting, or in Massively's slightly more digestible precis.
In even briefer form, the exploit was said to have generated "a few trillion" ISK - the game's currency. This is a lot of virtual money, although according to CCP's in-house economist, it's only equivalent to a day's trading in EVE - serious, but not catastrophic. Still, the overall impact in terms of distortion to the game's pricing and commodity markets is hard to gauge.
Claims that the exploit had first been reported four years ago are still being investigated by CCP, but the developer reckons the exploit wasn't being used on a significant scale until March this year at the earliest. CCP won't name the players and corporations involved, and is still trying to determine how far to take recriminations, since many players and some corporations may have profited unknowingly from the exploit.
Thought videogames were an escapist retreat from the financial misdeeds of the few affecting the prosperity of the many? Think again.

Aussie gamers today received an early Christmas present with news that Warner Bros. has had F.E.A.R. 2 successfully classified MA15+, overturning last month's ban and putting the title back on track for its February 2009 release.
After the game was refused classification by the Australian Classification Board in November, on the grounds of 'high violence', Warner Bros. appealed the decision and submitted the game to the Australian Classification Review Board. After reviewing the material, the ACRB agreed F.E.A.R. 2 deserved a MA15+ rating. Best of all, the game will be released in its original state - with no modifications being necessary.
Following on from Fallout 3's recent modification for the Aussie market, F.E.A.R. 2's successful classification is great news for gamers.

Continuing in a tradition set forth by Bully, Rockstar's latest Grand Theft Auto IV PC patch may itself be in need of a patch. According to BigDownload, the update has created issues for some gamers' controllers, both Xbox 360 Windows controller and keyboard/mouse combination. For those already experiencing some major issues, it's probably worth downloading now. For everyone else, we suggest waiting until the next patch arrives. Maybe.

Headline pretty much says it all, and it's a big one. Tipping the scales at 377MB (or 190MB for some; see image after the break), the OS X 10.5.6 update is now available via Software Update. We're sucking it down and will report back with any changes. We strongly encourage you to do the same (if you dare).
Update: Apple has posted the official changelog. Here are the highlights:- Improves the reliability of AirPort connections, including improvements when roaming in large wireless networks with an Intel-based Mac.
- Improves reliability of Address Book syncing with iPhone and other devices and applications.
- Includes general improvements to gaming performance.
- Includes fixes for possible graphics distortion issues with certain ATI graphics cards.
- Contacts, calendars, and bookmarks on a Mac automatically sync within a minute of the change being made on the computer, another device, or the web at me.com.
- Improves Apple File Service performance, especially when using a home directory hosted on an AFP server.
- Improves reliability and performance for AT&T 3G cards.
- Improves printing for USB-based Brother and Canon printers.
- Fixes issues that could cause Time Machine to state the backup volume could not be found.
- Improves Time Machine reliability with Time Capsule.
- Adds a Trackpad System Preference pane for portable Macs.
- Personal Engadget favorite: Improves the performance and reliability of Chess.
- Nary a mention of Blu-ray. It's still hurting, we guess.

Yesterday's patch release for GTA IV's PC version brought new problems for some users, such as a stuck key/input issue that leaves your head spinning. For real. Rockstar's suggested a fix.
Rockstar's forums are alive with complaints of unresolved bugs, even new ones, so if you're seeing the same kinds of things, you're probably not alone. However, the look/spin issue is the only one Rockstar's commenting on so far. Here's the word, as of 6:45 a.m. today.
With the latest Title Update, some users are experiencing a Look/Spin/Stuck Key issue that interferes with user input. The temporary fix, described below, will restore Keyboard/Mouse and XInput (360) controller functionality. Support for DirectInput devices is currently limited. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience.
To fix the issue:
A1) Unplug any DirectInput controllers (gamepads, joysticks etc..)
A2) Reboot your computer
A3) Launch GTA IV
If the issue persists, the following instructions are provided as a guide to assist you in deleting the conflicting DirectInput drivers:
B1) Exit game
B2) Go to Start->Control Panel->System->Hardware Tab->Device Manager->Human Interface Devices
B3) Locate drivers for devices
B4) Delete drivers for devices
B5) Launch GTA IV
**Some users are able to reinstall the drivers for their DirectInput devices, with the device attached, and have found that it will work in game. If you do attempt to reinstall your device and the problem resurfaces, please follow steps B1-B5 again.
