The first official trailer for Far Cry 2 has hit the internet, ahead of Ubisoft's press conference tonight, which we hope will shed new light on the shooter.
The trailer is good. And by 'good,' we mean it would be prompting us to re-evaluate our finances and buy a new PC (if it wasn't coming to PS3 and 360).
Astute viewers might notice that a web address for something called Reuben Blog is superimposed near the end of the trailer. Contrary to what you might think, it's not a watermark for the blog we ripped the trailer off, but part of Ubisoft's marketing campaign.
Hit the link above to check out what appears to be the blog of Far Cry 2 protagonist Reuben Oluwagembi. There's bound to be a few juicy nuggets about the back story buried in there.

The War On terror is raging. Violence is escalating. Time and time againCivilians are being kidnapped for ransom. Despite earlier assertions the government takes up negotiations to free the hostages. At the same time they also send a special unit of the US Navy seals just in case the negotiations take a little too long.
Face extremely dangerous and desperate opponents. They work in teams and can creep up on you from behind, surround you, call in reinforcements, sneak up, give each other cover or, when they are wounded, retreat from the battlefield or seek cover behind the nearest obstructions.

Microsoft has claimed its next operating system will be released with multi-touch features as an alternative to the good old mouse.
The new input method will allow users to enlarge and shrink photos, trace routes on maps, paint pictures or play the piano.
A similar multi-touch product called Microsoft Surface was unveiled last year and debuted in AT&T stores in April. It was essentially a Windows PC in a coffee table sized container, and the surface was a screen that could be manipulated by touching it.
It now seems that Microsoft is taking the technology and applying it to the home market. Speaking at the All Things Digital conference in San Diego, Chief executive Steve Ballmer described a demo of the product as "a small snippet" of the next version of Windows, after admitting he wants "to do better" than Vista.
Windows 7 is scheduled for release in 2010.

New version of the PC-Engine emulator for Windows 2000, XP and Vista.
Changelog:
- The operation of "Memory Base 128" and "Mr.Save." (Preservation device put
on the market in Japan)" was brought close to a real machine. In "Nobunaga
no Yabou series", "Sangokushi III", "Genchouhishi", "THE ATLAS", and "Shin
Megami Tensei", it is possible to Load&Save normally. (This information
was received from Mr.tori. Very thanks.)
*If it doesn't operate well, please use "File->Open mb128 Folder" menu.
And, delete the old MB128 saving file.
- The I/O processing of PCE(TG16) controller(pad) was brought close to a
real machine. In "Shin Megami Tensei", when you remove "Memory Base 128"(
"Input->MB128" menu), the usual backup RAM saving can be done.
- With "Windows Vista" or selected "Use System Memory"("Setting->Screen"
menu), the problem that the font of the message(left-top) is not read
easily was corrected.
- "Use System Memory Only Window" was added to "Setting->Screen" menu. With
"Use System Memory" at full-screen mode, V-Sync might not work. Use it at
such time.
- Additionally, a detailed part has been improved and corrected.
* The happiness of the game is the world human race commonness. It longs for
peace.
* I think that it cannot do improvement & correction of the above-mentioned
if there are many neither operation report nor defect report. Thank you
really for you who reported.

Funcom has announced that 400,000 players have signed up to play its new MMO launch, Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures, in the last few days.
Age of Conan has been on general release in the US for a week, and in Europe since last Friday. Assuming the figure excludes beta testers, it indicates very healthy early sales for the game - and means it's one of the fastest-selling PC games ever.
Age of Conan broke pre-order records for a PC game last week. Funcom announced then that it had shipped an initial print run of 700,000 copies, and it seems a good proportion of these have been sold, around half of them in North America, according to the developer.
Funcom also claimed an "astounding amount" of concurrent players logged into the game, but didn't offer a specific figure.
New MMOs have struggled to succeed in World of Warcraft's shadow in recent years, with titles counting themselves lucky to gather a quarter of a million subscribers. Although it's not guaranteed that all current Age of Conan players will convert their 30 days' free play into a subscription, the signs are that this trend has at last been broken.

Whatever you do, don't push the red button. MSI has pimped out its new GeForce 9600 GT Diamond graphics card with dual DVI, dual HDMI, optical audio and a shiny red button. The button bumps the clock speed of the graphics core and the memory, as well as increasing voltage to world-destroying levels. Unfortunately you'll have to reach around the back of your dusty machine to click it, but we're sure 30 minutes and a soldering iron can re-route the button to this little doomsday-inspired puppy.

When EA announced that Spore and Mass Effect (PC) would have a DRM program that did performed online verification every 10 days, it generated a massive backlash amongst the gaming community. Many people, who were originally excited about Spore and Mass Effect, now claimed that they would not purchase the games, solely because of the DRM. To be honest, I'm no fan of DRM either. It basically treats all legal customers as potential criminals, and seems futile anyway, as anyone with an internet connection can typically find ways around the DRM. The only people it probably deters are those with little technical savvy and who just want to share a game they bought with their friends and family. The amount of actual sales that would be lost to this is probably pretty limited. With all that said, I'm glad that EA has backed off this new DRM and scaled it back to just an initial online verification. Given the current state of PC gaming as well as the traditionally more "accepted" versions of DRM (like the initial online verification), however, I didn't find this new DRM to be all THAT much worse, particularly with some slight improvements to it, such as allowing a manual verification and extending the timeframe for re-verification slightly (say, to 30-60 days instead of every 10).
The reason for this has a lot to do with what's been going on with PC gaming in the last few years. While the "death" of PC gaming has been talked about for years, it isn't quite here. The landscape is just shifting. While the total NPD sales for each year has been decreasing, other avenues of making money have been developed. For instance, subscription-based games (mostly MMOs, but also games available on GameTap), cheaper more casual downloadable games (eg, PopCap Games), and even free, ad- or feature-driven games (eg, Dungeon Runners, Battlefield Heroes, Quake Zero) make up an ever increasing portion of PC-based revenue. Thus, the actual retail sales are taken up mostly by a few casual games, MMO starter kits or expansions, and maybe the occasional shooter or RTS game. Take, for example, the most recent NPD PC numbers for the week of May 4-10:
