Zuckerberg: "Social games are killing it"

Last night at its F8 presentation Facebook unveiled the latest version of the massive social network, which dramatically changes the way friends share activities, and adds a music, film and television app.
"The web is at a really important turning point right now," said Zuckerberg in his presentation.
When the new Facebook launches in a few weeks users will be able to see a Ticker, a stream of what their friends are listening to, watching, and most importantly, playing, and what they're doing in that game.
"Social games are killing it," said Zuckerberg.
"Games have been the most successful apps on Facebook. We think that Open Graph is going to take social games to the next level and make them a lot better, by helping you discover even more games that you want to play, through your friends."
Zuckerberg used Zynga's Words With Friends as an example, using the Ticker to see what words his friends were playing by hovering over the update.
"Social games have really already transformed the way we play games and the way the gaming industry works, but we think Open Graph is just going to take this to the next level. This is gonna be good."
The Open Graph removes the need to give an app repeated permission to post updates to your feed. Other additions include a more detailed Timeline which will act like a personal journal, which users are allowed to edit retrospectively. Facebook developers can choose to swap to this new timeline from today.
"Now, with the Open Graph and social plug-ins, more sites are going to use social plug-ins to give their users social experiences without them even having to connect."
The new media player app, which will host music, movies and television, already has the support of Spotify, Hulu and Netflix.
"We're building towards a web where the default is social. Every application and product will be designed from the ground up to use real identity and friends."
Facebook launched in 2004, going from an American college based portal to a global social network, complete with a Hollywood film.
