Windows XP has seen its market share rise, despite support for the operating system ending in April. Net Applications reported that from December 2013 to January 2014, XP’s global share on desktops rose from 28.98 per cent to 29.23 per cent – an increase of 0.25 per cent.
Windows 7 remains XP’s successor as the most popular OS in the world, with 47.49 per cent of the market during January. This, however, was fractionally less than during December, when the OS, which launched in 2009, held 47.52 per cent.
Windows 8 continued to slowly increase in popularity, rising to 10.58 per cent from 10.49 per cent in the same time period.
Support for Windows XP will end on April 8th 2014. The operating system is the longest-lived version of Windows to date.
