Xbox has announced that it is acquiring MinecraftEdu and releasing a new edition of Minecraft for schools.
Entitled Minecraft: Education Edition, the title is being made in collaboration with Teacher Gaming. It is currently set for release this summer. The title is going to be building upon what MinecraftEdu does already, with a broader set of features.
MinecraftEdu launched in 2011. It’s a version of Mojang’s title that is built with the classroom in mind.
When MCV sat down with Mojang COO Vu Bui at Minecon this year, he said that there was ‘no limit’ to Minecraft Education.
“One of the reasons Minecraft fits so well in the classroom is because it’s a common, creative playground,” said Vu Bui, COO of Mojang on EducationMinecraft.net.
“We’ve seen that Minecraft transcends the differences in teaching and learning styles and education systems around the world. It’s an open space where people can come together and build a lesson around nearly anything.”
