Windows 7 dethrones XP as world's most used OS

While its successor - Windows 8 - is set for release next month, Windows 7 has taken the crown as the world's most used operating system.
Figures released by web tracking company Net Applications for the month of August puts Windows 7 at the top of the pile with a market share of 42.76 per cent, whilst XP trails with its 42.5 per cent share.
The seemingly forever-dominant Windows XP has suffered steady monthly decline throughout the past year as its newer counterpart has experienced significant growth.
