Consumers will be able to get their hands on an Ubuntu handset in October, reports WSJ.
Ubuntu will hit two ‘large geographical markets’ in October, revealed Canonical CEO Mark Shuttleworth.
Canonical provides services for corporate customers using Ubuntu open source software.
Besides the date, Shuttelworth didn’t reveal too much, apart from the fact that North America was ‘absolutely a key market for Ubuntu’, and a number of carrier were interested.
Can any other operating systems really make a dent in Android and iOS’s huge mobile market shares? Well, BlackBerry 10 is certainly having a go, and Ubuntu is aiming for complete convergence across just about every platform that you could imagine, which is certainly something to stir interest.
The most recent desktop version of Ubuntu was downloaded 7,300,000 times in the first 24 hours of release. http://www.pcr-online.biz/news/read/...october/030204
