The Creative Assembly today announced that its iOS game Total War Battles: Shogun is available for PC and Mac in revised form via Steam.
"It's a really good fit on PC," senior artist Nick Farley tells us. "We were initially sceptical, but the thing about Unity, and the actual game design, meant that it actually worked incredibly well. We widened the aspect ratio, started playing and thought, 'Hang on this is actually really good!'"
In the transition, the turn-based strategy title has gained not only widescreen presentation that shows more of the terrain at once but also a number of "high-end" PC graphical effects - including anti-aliasing, enhanced shadows and bloom - to compliment the distinctive, chunky art style.
"We've tweaked quite a few things," explains lead designer Renaud Charpentier. "Obviously, the controls are different, so the tutorial is different, and the game content is slightly different too - we've upped the difficulty in some spots."
The game also features Steamworks-specific features such as achievements and leaderboards, while players will gain free access to the Sendai Clan for Total War: Shogun 2 - Fall Of The Samurai.
"It's not a port, it's really a re-imagining," asserts Charpentier. "We wanted to make it the best experience it could be on the PC; if it hadn't have been that good, we probably wouldn't have released it, but it turned out surprisingly well. It's my preferred version so far, and we're now looking at other formats."
