Acclaim announced today that it's going to begin letting people into the closed beta for the fantasy MMO Chronicles of Spellborn. The first 200-500 players who are going to receive access will be "handpicked from the Acclaim chats, David Perry's Twitter and Historian's beta tester list." After that Acclaim will begin activating 1000 new accounts every hour, giving first preference to Acclaim members and then extending a random lottery to Acclaim's entire user base. Beta slots will be closed once Acclaim has reached an unspecified number of players. Hopeful players can check their status on their account summary page at the Acclaim website.
When released at retail, Spellborn will be a "freemium" game. That term, which is as ridiculous as it is terrible, merely indicates that the game will have a free component as well as lots of content that requires subscription.
Players who want to hit the ground running when they receive access to the beta can start downloading the client now directly from the Acclaim website.
