22Cans boss Peter Molyneux has said he hopes to release a playable prototype of his Populous follow-up, Godus.
Molyneux hit Kickstarter with the projecton November 21, promising an "innovative reinvention of Populous", and a "reinvention of the god game" genre.Lofty claims from the developer known for over-promising and under delivering. Fully aware of his reputation, Molyneux aims to provide proof of concept to gamers with an early playable prototype.
"I hope by Christmas we have a prototype that people can download and say, 'Actually, you know what, they're already doing good work,'" he told Joystiq.
"And this is what needs to happen with Kickstarter and games. The promises... wouldn't it be amusing if I was the one to prove this right? These promises have to result in great games."
At the time of writing, the Godus Kickstarter fund sits at £194,733 of a targeted £450,000, with 17 days to go, and with gradually slowing donations is at risk of not reaching that goal.
The game is billed for release "in less than a year from now" for PC and mobile devices.
