They have kept it on the down-low so far, but Microsoft's marketing push for the Surface tablet has now begun in earnest with TV ads, media appearances from executives and publicity stunts like this.
Steven Sinofsky, head of Microsoft's Windows division showed how tough the new slate is by using it as a skateboard deck.
Microsoft made a big deal about wanting to use materials in the Surface that had not been put in previous touchscreen computing products and ended up using Vapor Magnesium for the case, along with Gorilla Glass 2.0 for the touchscreen. Sinofsky posted a couple of pictures on his Twitter account to prove just how hard-wearing this made the device.
As publicity stunts go, it's a unique one, and it's true that very few other devices would stand up to such punishment. Time will tell whether it will pay off and convince users to trade in their laptops and iPads for the Surface. http://www.mobile-ent.biz/news/read/...ughness/019627
