Tomb Raider fans in Japan are being asked to buy $30 worth of additional content if purchasing the game on Steam. Kotaku reports that as of April 25th the Japanese Steam Store will offer a $30 ‘Japanese language pack’ that adds subtitles and a Japanese voice track to the game.
Without that additional download gamers will be limited to German, French, Italian, Spanish, Russian, Polish, and Arabic with subtitles offered in Korean, Chinese, Dutch, Czech, and Portuguese.
It should be noted that the retail version ships with Japanese support and will already cost $80. PCGamesN makes further worrying claims suggesting that the version of Tomb Raider already available on Steam in Japan already has Japanese subtitles. Or, it did have them – it’s claimed that they have since been deactivated via a patch, forcing gamers into buying the extra $30 download.
