In its latest move to expand into the American market, Korean publisher NCsoft has announced a brand-new deal with a brand-new studio. Today, the company's Austin, Texas office it has entered into an agreement with Spacetime Studios, based in the same city.
If you're wondering what Spacetime Studios is, that's understandable. The indie shop is a new operation "composed of a core team with previous leadership roles on successful franchises such as Privateer, Wing Commander, and Star Wars Galaxies," according to a statement issued by the company. It was cofounded by Gary Gattis, who was senior producer of the Galaxies expansion Jump to Lightspeed.
Given Spacetime's background and NCsoft's specialty, it's no surprise that their first collaboration will be a sci-fi massively multiplayer online role-playing game. While no specific title or launch window were mentioned, NCsoft Robert Garriott did praise the developer's "proven track record in creating games in the space genre." For his part, Gattis gave NCsoft props for giving his team "the freedom to develop a game that we have been dreaming of doing for years."
